Death Valley was a big surprise. There are many scenic views. The only problem I found is that I found a route submitted by another traveler. I have found tour vans can only take the visitor to half of Death Valley.
I also thought this would be a great place to camp for a couple of days to see more of the area.

This was much more interesting than I thought it would be. When you pass through, make sure you
stop at the small museum.

Visited Death Valley during the peak of the summer season. Translation = super hot, no crowds, all roads open, and did I mention super hot? The thermometer consistently hit 125 degrees while I was there. Nonetheless, it's an amazing place, very huge so don't expect to see nearly half of what you planned because it wont happen! Definitely rent a 4WD vehicle so you can go off-road and see the "real" parts of death valley. Staying on pavement can get really boring, especially if you have children -- this isn't a national park like Grand Canyon or Bryce, don't expect to just pull out to the side of a road and expect grand scenery. I suggest taking Titus Canyon trail if you can -- great road that gets deep into the canyon and passes through a ghosttown.

This was my fourth visit to Death Valley. I love it and find new things every time! I don't know how anyone can give this park a bad review. I know it can get very hot, once it was 122 F when we were there, but we still hiked up an old volcano! The park is huge (get gas before-hand) and absolutely awe-inspiring! All that land! Many of the trails are off-road only and we have yet to visit those. When I say many, I mean like half of the roads. We still have yet to visit the Barker Ranch, home of the Manson Family in the 1960's, b/c we never had an off-road vehicle to take. But we have visited some ghost towns, a retired volcano, kilns, mines, etc. In the evening the bats come out. We also have seen burros, coyotes, snakes, lizards, hawks, and other animals. Carry lots of water for hiking, and a camera! Wonderful park!
