The car trip from the strip was not too bad. The charge of $5 for a car to take the scenic road to the Lake was reasonable as you could see where the money was being spent (roads, rest areas, etc.). The views were magnificent although it is sad to see the Lake at such low levels. Didn't make as many stops along the way as we could have but we saw what we came to see and enjoyed it. Kids would probably not find it too interesting...the splendor would be lost on them.

Excellent scenery, and an easy drive but if you go all the way from hoover damn to overton it's going to take nearly two hours even with no traffic.

Great place to take your kids, make them understand that this is ALL the drinking water there is for Las Vegas and a large part of southern california. You'll see the water level having dropped dramatically, as the white lines on the rocks, and newly created grasslands indicate how much has been lost, it's truly shocking. An experience that will make anyone think twice about wasting water ever again.

We rented a speed boat for 3 1/2 hours ($185) from the Marina and it was WELL worth it. We had a GREAT time on the Lake. Very enjoyable and a great escape from the glitzy side of Las Vegas (about a 25-30 minute drive tops from the strip). Would definitely do again. Take sunblock or you'll get fried. Also put the canopy up if you have one. Marina offers a lot. One of the highlights of the trip. Great fun.

Lake Mead is a beautiful man-made lake and never ceases to take our breath away! There is a $5.00 per week entry fee which is well worth it. You can find a secluded beach any day of the week and not have to worry about huge crowds! Lots of wildlife like ducks, huge fish, lizards, and we saw a group of 5 hawks hunting together over one of the camp grounds. I can't wait to move out there to try the scuba diving in that wonderfully clear lake! Highly recommended!
