Valley of Fire State Park
North on I-15 from Las Vegas, take NV Rt 169 at Crystal south to park. 702-397-2088
A visit to the park is a trip back in time where visitors can experience red sandstone rock formations that have been carved by centuries of wind erosion into many exotic shapes. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyph.

Awesome scenery! Much more to see than Red Rock Canyon. It is a nice side trip from the Vegas pace!

Desert Rock Formations, Wow! The sunset at the ARCH WOW! This place is big real big. Will be going back again this year. The Petroglyphs were amazing to have laster so long. Scenic for photo buffs. Also if you like to hike, that is a place to go! Remember you are in the hot desert!

A great park with spectacular rock formations. Short hikes if you want to do them, some past Indian symbols. Ask at the vistor center where to look for these. If you're into birding, we got 4 life birds here. Better than Red Rock park, but takes longer to get to. Plan so you get there early to avoid the heat.

Pros: Great hiking, Great views. Any interest in Native American History makes it more interesting. Some areas feel like you are the only person on the planet. Cons: Not far, but not close, about an hour north. Kids may be bored and once you're there that's about it, not much else around it.
