Before commenting on Gagnon's Vancouver show in February, I must mention that my Wife, Kids and I watched Gagnon's show in Vegas about 6 years ago. When we found out that Gagnon was coming to Vancouver in February 2004, we bought tickets on the assumption that his show would be different from the one we saw all those years ago. We were EXTREMELY disappointed by what we saw. We would assume that he would maybe keep some of his old material, but he had changed NOTHING! He used the same old impressions, and kept his Bill Clinton material. He devoted a good half an hour to Bill Clinton. That was fine back when Clinton was in office, but someone should inform Mr. Gagnon that Clinton is no longer the U.S. President. We were all joking in the car on the way to the show that Gagnon would do his old Celine Dion 'duet'. Imagine the look on our faces when a very young Celine Dion popped up on the screen and started singing with Gagnon. I mean come on. How many times does that guy have to do that silly duet? That might have been fine 5-10 years ago (the Celine on the screen was from about 10 years ago), but now it is time for him to get new material. I kid you not when I say that everything was the same from his old Vegas show. Had he not made a reference to the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident, I could have sworn I was lost in a time warp. Anyhow, the shining point of the show was when Gagnon brought an audience member onstage and actually mimicked his voice. Quite impressive, no matter how many times one sees it. Also, back in the Vegas show we saw 6 years ago, Gagnon did a "Carlos Santana" impression. However, the french impressionist was sadly misinformed because he was not actually doing Santana's voice, but that of none other than Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20. Okay, back then, perhaps it was an honest mistake. But most people will tell you that Santana sticks primarily to guitar playing. If Gagnon truly wanted to do a Santana impression, then he would have to make guitar sounds. What really struck me, however, was when Gagnon once again did his "Carlos Santana" impression and unknowingly sang as Rob Thomas! Come on Andre, you have had 6 years to learn that Santana does not sing that song. I must say the the one thing that saved the show that night was Robert Michaels, a spanish guitarist from Toronto who actually did the pre-show opener. Robert, thank you for giving me my money's worth. Lastly Andre, besides getting with the times, developing new impressions and up to date jokes, you should perhaps use a live band instead of pre-recorded tunes. To anyone who is in Vegas right now and wants to watch an impressionist, I have three words for you: "watch Danny Gans."

Date Seen: 02/04 - Good Show
My lady and I saw the show in Vancouver, BC, Feb 5/04 and were totally astounded. I have little to add to Scott Brown's very good description of the show (see other ratings), other than to add that in this show I was the person picked from the audience to sing Memories - I kept the card with the lyrics, so I hope he has another. It is somewhat eerie to hear your own voice come out of another's face, but that is exactly what he did - sang with me in my voice. My lady and two acquaintences who have since told me they were at the show all said they were amazed, as well. I was also very much warmed by the way he sought me out for a personal good-bye as he was leaving the stage. It was a nice touch and showed that he has not become a slick lounge performaer, but has stayed in touch with his audience. It was clear all along that he is still having a ball. The show was amazing and being a tiny part of it made it unforgettable. Congrats, Andre-Philippe, and thank you for a wonderful time.
Mr Mike
