Date Visited: 12/03 - Undecided I've commented here before that I view the Flamingo as a great value at the center of the Las Vegas Strip, and I still believe that to be true. My only problem is that having stayed there again a year later, I have noticed the property starting to become shabby, scratched and worn-around-the-edges...not what I would expect from a "corporate" place. Scratched-up walls, dirty sidewalks outside, etc. This is definitely now Park Place's "budget" property in Las Vegas...going the way of the Sahara, the Stardust and the Tropicana. My room (#23-059), which had been supposedly renovated within the last 2 years, was small in size and had been redecorated in a "retro" style, with odd navy blue tropical-patterned carpet, tropical bedspread, dark wood furniture (which was very scratched up) and bright green side chairs. Not flattering at all. Who ever was the "designer" of these renovations should be fired! I was also dismayed that the room was not very clean, as there was dust everywhere (I was able to write my name in it), dirty mirrors, soap scum on vanity in the tiny bathroom, and linty carpet. Bally's would probably be a better choice for more spacious accommodations and a better-maintained property. <davidheaton -at- juno.com> - Mount Pleasant IA USA - Added 01/12/03 - [69.18.54***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 11/03 - Good Visit Good visit, but just barely. Stayed here for 4 days in November. This is a place that is just a little above average in most categories. The room was spacious, included a loveseat, and was recently redecorated, but the bathroom was small and nothing special. Fortunately, my room was very close to the elevator, and that was very much appreciated. As for the elevators themselves, some of the buttons weren't working! One of the elevator buttons wouldn't acknowledge having my floor number pushed, until I moved over to press the floor button on the other side. One of the down buttons on my floor wouldn't work. I stayed on the 8th floor facing the strip, with a great view of Caesars Palace. I enjoyed the wildlife habitat, and the easy to understand layout of the casino. Most of the staff seemed uninspired and seemed like they were going thru the motions, but there were some examples of good service. There is no denying the great location. <Wolfspring -at- aol.com> - Atlanta GA USA - Added 11/14/03 - [172.146.143.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 - Bad Visit We stayed at this hotel from October 12-16 and had a room on the 12th floor. When we checked in at the airport we were told that the room had a pool view. Really it was a view of a roof below us and off to the side you could see pool area way off to the right. It was a non smoking room but the sofa, and bedspread had cigarette burns in them. It wasn't as clean as I like a room to be. The paint was peeling off the lamps and desk chair. The airconditioner was noisey and we had to turn it off at night to sleep. The bathtub faucet leaked. One day the maid left us no towels at all and we called to have towels delivered to our room so we could shower before we went out. We waited an hour and a half and they still hadn't delivered the towels. When we came back late that evening the towels were there. The location of this hotel is great, but I wouldn't stay there again. The pool area was beautiful but the water was very cold!! <jbeverland -at- yahoo.com> - Worcester NY USA - Added 10/17/03 - [66.218.17.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 - Bad Visit My wife and I stayed at the Flamingo Oct. 26th -29th. This was our 4th trip to Las Vegas and the location and price seemed fair...at the time. We checked in at the airport and were given an upgrade to a mini-suite. I asked for a view of the strip, overlooking the Bellagio fountain. What I got was a view of the roof and the Barbery Coast. The room was spacious, but the bathroom was tiny and had hair in the tub and ice bucket. The room safe didn't work, the loveseat and chairs were stained. The overall service at the casino was very poor. No matter how long we played on a machine, we were never approached for a drink. My wife waited over an hour for a attendendant to reset the machine she was playing on. The slots were tight. The food was over priced for what you got in return. It seemed most of the people working there ignored you unless they were hitting you up for a time share tour. Unless we get comp'd or "REALLY" good rates before our next trip, I will not stay there again. <jgroat -at- att.net> - Miles TX USA - Added 10/31/03 - [148.177.1.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Bad Visit I stayed there in June for 3 nights. The best part was that the company paid the bill. I would not have. My room was old and smelly, small bathroom and you had to walk and walk and walk to get an elevator. This hotel is not up to standards for the strip hotels. They need to close down and start over. The food was terrible and the lines for the buffet were long. To get room service was a joke. The casino was tight the days I were there and the sports book is small. The price was right, however you get what you pay for. I am returning in October and I will try the Aladdin this time. <paul -at- haskins-schmidt.com> - Louisville KY USA - Added 09/08/03 - [216.107.73***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit We must have gotton lucky, because I thought the Flamingo was pretty decent. Then again, it was my first time to Las Vegas. But, We didn't have to wait in line long to check in, as we got there at midnight. I wasn't really into walking through the casino will my luggage, but once I got to my room I found it was close to the elevator, so I was able to get in and out of the place pretty easily. I was suprised, actually, by how quite it was when I was in there (not much). The room was nothing special, but I was paying only $50 dollars a night, and I've seen worse for $50 dollars a night. All I did was sleep there anyway, as I didn't go to Vegas to hang out in my hotel room. I got drinks very easily at the Flamingo. All I had to do was tip them a little. They were bringing around as many drinks as I could handle, although it seems like they're much faster in the section closer to the Sports Book place, as opposed to over by Bugsy's Bar. I won there on the slots. Not alot, but enough to make it fun and drag it out a little bit. I won a few modest pots in there. Enough to make a week long vacation come fairly cheap. I ate at the Flamingo breakfast buffet a couple of times. A bit expensive, but nothing compared to what some people were throwing away in the slots. Personal omelets, prime rib. . . I thought it was OK. Most the time I ate next door at Barbarry Coast for $3 dollar breakfast. I ordered room service once; breakfast. The only problem I had with that is that they brought me a Bloody Mary with my breakfast instead of the Screwdriver that I'd ordered. You can get a fairly large turkey sandwitch at the Deli by the oxygen lady for about 5 bucks. I thought the employees were friendly enough. There were a few people who acted like they hated their jobs, but for the most part they were polite. Speaking of Bugsy's, the bartender there is very cool. A very friendly guy loaded with good info about Vegas. Not sure what his name was, but an older guy with glasses. He'll even take group pictures for you if you ask him. haha. The Players Club line is usually pretty long. You can't beat the location. Ceasars Palace, the Ballagio, Bally's are all right across the street. Paris is very close. . . almost everything is fairly close. If you want a cheap place to stay that right in the heart of the strip, and you plan on being out and about most of the time, with a big, decent paying casino, with plenty of waitresses; the Flamingo will suit you fine. If you're looking for a Jacuzzi bathtub, want to be waited on hand and foot, plan on lounging around in your room all day, like your rooms a little more extravagant, and want a guy to come up to your room and personally cook fine Japanese cuisine; you might be better off trying the Bellagio or the Venetian. I'd stay there again. The room was quite and I slept just fine. <gregjones52 -at- aol.com> - Jackson MI USA - Added 09/26/03 - [205.188.209***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit Great visit. Stayed 4 nights in September. Check in at the airport was quick, got a room on the 18 floor facing the strip and the construction at Ceasers. Small room, but served its purpose. Usually stay at Bally's for the huge rooms but received $39 per night offer from slot club. Never had a problem getting a drink. Waitresses just brought them to me, I didn't have to order them. That's what you'll get when you sit at the same table for 6 hours a day. Can't beat the location. We had a room on the 26th floor looking at the Fountains of Bellagio. (this was the best thing about the whole room) The room smelled very bad. And this was supposed to be a renovated room! The bathroom was very tiny and the bath tap dripped all night long. The shower curtain was not big enough to fit the bath tub. So your floor is soaked. The couch was a little worn and the table was shabby. It did however have a fairly new carpet. The bed wasnt too bad. (king) But the pillows were bigger on the airplane!!! The air conditioner constantly came on and off, so we had to eventually turn it off. Dont drink the bottled water in your room unless your willing to pay $3.00 each for it. The employees in the Flamingo all seemed very miserable. And service was not good. I would not stay in the flamingo again. I would definatly stick to Caesars its worth the extra $$$. Park Place definately need to improve the Flamingo as it could be alot better and friendlier. My room requests were honored (non-smoking, 1 king bed). Be sure to check-in at the airport, the line in the hotel looked horrendous as I breezed past it on the way to my room. The room was on the 20th floor, facing the pool and was on a remodeled floor so the room was OK. The closet was on the smallish side, especially with the pay safe ($3 a day!), ironing board and food trays taking up most of the bottom space, I was able to fit one suitcase . The bathroom was adequate, counter length mirror, okay for 2 people to stand in, but not much more room than that. The room wasn't spotless (saw a wrapper and some sunflower seed shells behind a table and the sitting chair had a stain on it) but good overall. I went down to the pool around 11am and was able to secure two lounge chairs..in the back area though, not poolside. I didn't try any of the food offerings since they seemed overpriced for what was being offered. I didn't see a lot of kids there, which can be a plus. While the Flamingo is far from the ritziest Las Vegas has to offer, it's an excellent value. <nikkole -at- uclink.berkeley.edu> - USA - Added 08/25/03 - [136.152.196.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit I had a Monday-Thursday night stay at the Flamingo and for $50 a night, center strip and near Ceasars, Paris, the Venetian, Bellagio, the shuttle at Barbary Coast to the Orleans and Gold Coast (walk to Rio and Palms) you really can't beat it. My first complaint would be finding the free parking, this was rather challenging since something was blocking the enterance off of the strip. Second complaint would be the room, the rates were pretty cheap so maybe I have no right to complain but still... The chairs seemed a bit too worn, once the white is spotted with many dark stains I'd say the it's time for another chair. If you stain the carpet you are charged for it...so why not charge those who stain chairs...and then actually use their money to fix it. Third complaint is the hike I had to take to get to my room. I think I spent an equal amount of time walking to my room as I did walking the strip. No kidding. A warning should come with this room about the distance...tt was room 23156 for those who would like to know. Fourth complaint is the pool! And anyone who has been here knows what comes next. There is no where to sit or put your things. Too many people claim chairs in the morning and then just leave! I have no problem with anyone claiming a chair and then going to change or just staying in the pool for 6 hours, but it's quite annoying when people claim chairs and then just take off. Oh and I tasted on of their pool side hamburgers...not really worth it...grease, grease and more grease. I didn't experience the staff being too unfriendly like other said, but I don't doubt it. Park Place owns some great hotels, but they've most certainly let this one fall. More attention to the Flamingo! This hotel has a lot of potiential with it's location and name recognition, but Park Place needs to invest as much time and interest as they seem to have put into Paris or Caesars. I think with some minor changes (most of which would have to be done to the rooms directly) the Flamingo could get back to being one of favorite hotels on the strip in no time. <JoseXOkay -at- aol.com> - San Francisco CA USA - Added 08/25/03 - [172.154.171.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit I'm suprised so many people are complaining about the Flamingo in Las Vegas. I had a very enjoyable stay there. Checked in at the airport after only a five minute wait. I ask for a room with a strip view and they gave me one, even though I didn't tip the clerk. My room was 11086 on the 11th floor. Had a great view of the strip, directly across from Caesar's Palace. I could see the Bellagio fountains, the Rio, the Orleans and the Mirage. The carpet was clean and looked new. The TV had a large 25 inch screen. The furniture was a little worn, but not bad at all. Bed was comfortable. The room had been remodeled in 2000, according to the check in clerk at the airport. The bathroom was average in size with a granite counter top. Shower and bath combo and the toilet was not in a seperate room. Window was from the floor to close to the ceiling. Window was a bit dirty on the outside. All in all, a decent room. The casino is very crowded and doesn't have any good video poker. The restaurants I went to are Lindy's and the Buffet. Both were pretty good but Lindy's was expensive for the type of food served. I would suggest eating at the Barbary Coast coffee shop instead. The best part of staying at the Flamingo was the price. I was comped 3 days Sun through Tues and paid $55.00 a night (standard summer mid week rate) for Thurs and Fri. This makes the Flamingo one of the best deals on the strip. <torourke -at- cfl.rr.com> - Melbourne Beach FL USA - Added 08/26/03 - [67.8.203***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit I just got back from the Flamingo and I was very impressed with the changes that they have made since I was there last year. The room we were in were one of the newere renovated rooms which were a big improvement from the old room we were in last year. There was a bigger more modern television in the room than in the old rooms. The food in the buffet has even improved. The Flamingo is trying to capture younger people and they are doing just that as the hotel was jam packed with young people. I really enjoyed the "Great American Picnic" setup outside of the hotel which features kareoke, (I guess a spelled that right) which was very entertaining, don't miss it!! I really love the garden area with all of the fish, ducks, flamingos, etc. The whole area out back is very nice and especially relaxing to sit in when the sun goes down and some of the crowds have died down, very romantic. I tipped when we checked in and got a nice - not fancy - room on the 12th floor near the elevators with a view of the pool area. The room was clean and the air conditioner was awesome - had to turn the temp. up a few times! However, the room right next to us was a disaster - we got a peek when the maid was in there. No way I would've stayed in that room if it was offered to me at check-in. The pool area was crowded each day - many lounge chairs empty with towels on them. There should be a policy of no holding loungers after 1-hour of no use. The dinner buffet was very blah - go to Paris' buffet instead. Overall we had a great stay and for the price I can't complain at all! <dleigh7 -at- yahoo.com> - Boston MA USA - Added 09/02/03 - [66.31.75***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Bad Visit Lot's of good and bad about this hotel depending on what interests you. "Check In" was the worst. It took around 2.5 hours to check in -- They blamed it on the MAGIC clothing convention. Everybody waiting was pissed, but they gave free water bottles around the 2 hour point. Nothing was said about the wait by the check in people, so I don't know if this is the norm for this place. Location is excellent with a good mix of highend (Bellagio) and regular (O-Sheas) Resorts/Casinos. Room -- We had an excellent view of the Bellagio fountains. Room had an AWFUL SMOKE SMELL. (Avoid this hotel if you do cannot stand the smell of smoke as it is everywhere in this place -- Much worse than other resorts! -- We called about our smelly room, they Febreezed, but the smoke was just too tough!). Room was not cleaned one day and we called to get it cleaned around 3 PM too! Priced cheap at $65/ night, but you also got poor service and treatment by the staff. Everybody seemed like they didn't want to be there, which was kind of depressing. Food was poor. At the cafe we started with a wilted lettuce salad and a way overcooked calamari appetizer. We then had steak and crab legs -- I got a mound of bottom parts of the legs that were cut in half (no meat could be pulled off for dunking, but I could scoop some with my finger as I paid good money for my little ends!) The Manager at the cafe dressed the part, but acted like he didn't want to be there -- He walked my party over to our seat and pointed to sit -- He didn't say a word which was kind of funny, so we watched him and saw him do this to everybody except one busty blonde. The waitstaff was not much better than the manager and they left you with a neutral to negative feeling -- There was no pride by most of the service staff in the restaurant or hotel in general. The pool was excellent. It had a nice waterfall and islands to swim around. On the first day, Kids were tossing a football around for the entire three hours we were at the pool -- Only a couple of people got hit accidentally. Staff didn't care to ask anybody to stop. It didn't bother me, but I could see it upsetting the older folks in the pool. You need to get to the pool early to claim your spot. We didn't gamble in the casino because of the smoke smell, so I cannot comment on the gaming. I would say there are much better places that try to make you feel like you are on vacation! <miknren -at- hotmail.com> - Dearborn MI USA - Added 09/06/03 - [68.41.83.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit Overall, I'd say the hotel is dated, but very nice, pretty clean, no "stale smoke" issues in the casino and in the perfect strip location. My wife and I would definitely stay here again. FYI, we are both in our late 30s. Everytime I go to Vegas, I tell my self (but don't listen to myself) that I'm not going to take a shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel (strip hotel). It's too damn hot if you have to wait for the bus. And, if your hotel isn't the first stop, it takes too long. A cab ride is only a couple dollars more per couple. If you have more than 2 people, it actually costs less to take a cab. We checked in at airport on Thursday 10:00pm. Took about 10 minutes. When we got to the hotel, there was a line waiting to checkin, even at this odd hour. Don't overlook airport checkin! At checkin, I asked for one of the upgraded rooms overlooking the strip (and Bellagio if possible). I then gave the lady my license, credit card and a $20. We received room 11064. Very clean room which was bigger/cleaner than I had hoped for after reading other reviews. Kingsize bed, table/2chairs, writing table with chair and also an additional chair for relaxing in. The water pressure in the shower was HUGE and hot, which I like. Since we were only on the 11th floor, the view of the strip wasn’t that great. We were above the main entrance with a view of Ceasars Palace and its fountains. Off to our left/south, we could see about 75% of the Bellagio fountains, but couldn't hear the music. The best thing about our room location was that we were the first/only room as you take a left turn in the hallway, after getting off the elevators. I'm trying to say that we were very close, but out of "earshot" of the elevators. BTW, we never waited for longer than a minute for an elevator to arrive. We mostly play craps and not much else, so I really can't comment on other parts of the casino. During off-peak hours, there was always at least 2 $5 crap tables open and during prime time they had 4 $5 tables open. The tables were a little crowded, so I would have like to have seen a couple more tables open, but it was acceptable. The only negative comments I have about the casino is all liquor related. At night, they are understaffed. It was pretty tough to get drinks during prime time, no problem at all when not prime-time. Also, their casino bars charge too much for a cocktail and they don't carry Redbull. I think I was paying about $5 for basic mixed drinks. I'm not one of those people who walks up to a table/machine and starts playing to get a free drink. I'm a firm believer that the cheapest drink in Vegas is the one you pay full price for at the bar. But that just my opinion, so I shouldn't bitch about $5 cocktails! The pools and surrounding area was large and pretty nice, but we didn't spend much time outside, so I can't really comment on anything other than that – we came to play/win/party, not sun/swim. The buffet is nothing to go out of your way for, but if you are staying in the hotel and you have a 2-4-1 coupon, it is worth the $12 brunch per/couple. My biggest grip is their staff’s "cattle herding" mentality. You know, herd you over to this line to pay, then herd you over to this line to wait after paying, then herd you over to a line in the back after waiting in the line in the front. IMHO, if you're hungry and want something quick/casual, go to Bugsy's deli. It's a touch pricey, but they have outstanding cheeseburgers ($8). My wife also thought their pastrami sandwich was pretty good, and she's a pastrami snob. Generally, when I want to go to a buffet, I go next door and jump on the free Barbary Coast shuttle which takes you to the Orleans. At $15 per couple at the Orleans lunch buffet, you can't beat their selection/quality, if you have the time to shuttle over. <pb3 -at- nowalking.com> - USA - Added 09/24/03 - [207.152.9***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit Okay, I visited awhile ago, but I was pleased. Got in at 10:30ish and they got us in our room right away. Room -- Asked for a room with a view (no bribe) and was given a very nice, updated, 14th floor room. Right down the hall from the elevator, with a wonderful view of the pool area. Room had a nice couch, chair and king sized bed. Bathroom was a little small, but it didn't bother me. Ask for extra towels. Location -- on the four corners. Perfect walking distance to many of the major hotels. PERFECT! Casino -- Fine. They take your money like every other casino. Didn't win much on the slots. Blackjack was good and bad. Dealers were friendly for the most part. Restaurants -- Didn't eat at any of theirs. I have my favorites and none of them are located here. Pool -- Awesome. Cold, but it was 114 degrees out so it felt fine. Service was sporadic but OK. Scenery is nice, lots of talent. Bottom's Up -- Don't bother unless you are bored out of your mind and if that's the case you're in the wrong city. Overall -- I'd definitely stay here again. Got a deal for $55 / night. It was well worth it. BTW - the family friendly tab is dumb. LV by nature is not family friendly. <dsjr2 -at- yahoo.com> - USA - Added 06/09/03 - [63.105.70***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 06/03 - Good Visit This is our first trip to Vegas, and after a lot of research (including this website), we decided on the Flamingo for its location and pool. Check In - Very easy at the airport, with absolutely no waiting. The staff was friendly and helpful, giving us a room with a view of the strip (which we requested). Parking - Ample parking, but no signs to direct you to it from the strip. We got lucky and turned down Flamingo Road to Audie and found the entrance in the back. Used valet parking the first nite, which was fairly prompt (it was busy, tho). The next morning, we got our car right away. Room - We obtained one of the renovated rooms on the 10th floor. With the exception on the carpet, it was nice. The carpeting was worn, but clean. I noticed the maid staff didn't vacuum or clean under the beds, when I was looking for my players card that I thought I'd lost. Pool - Just beautiful. There are water slides, waterfalls, and lots of scenery (flamingos, penguins, etc). You do need to get up and get a chair early. Lots of people get their seats before 8am, leave a towel and book on them to reserve it, and then go back to bed and return later. By 10am, it is standing room only. Bring money to tip the pool boys, as they have all the chairs piled up at the rear of the pool, and they place them where you wish. They are helpful, I just didn't bring any cash down with me the first morning and this caught me by suprise. The water is chilly, but refreshing in the 100+ heat. There is a bar and grill on the deck, and the food is good, but (not suprisingly) pricey. Casino - My wife usually has good luck with slots, but not here. I don't know if that is typical for a strip hotel or not. I played blackjack and keno, and had good luck at first, but left a couple bills under by the end of the trip. Get the Players Club Card, but don't expect much in comps. They are pretty stingy with them. Not very crowded, I didn't have any problem getting in at a $5 table. They change all tables to at least $10 at 7pm, tho. If you are already playing at the $5 rate, they let you continue. Location - Mid strip - great location if you want to walk and tour the other major hotels. The strip joint advertisers are all over the place, but I noticed they don't touch you - it is an annoyance to have them in your face all the time, but they are harmless. We went to Mount Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, and Hoover Dam while there and all were easy to get to. Just get a map, and you are on your way. Food - We ate in the Flamingo Room, and had great service and great food. Also the same at Lindy's and the buffet. The buffet was one of the best I'd seen! They had $5 pieces of cheesecake for dessert, and fresh seafood. Service for all the places were super, no complaints. I would definitely stay there again. <wheeler44234 -at- earthlink.net> - USA - Added 06/11/03 - [207.221.79.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 06/03 Spent two days at the Flamingo. I was expecting tiny bathroom, as a lot of the previous guests had complained about. The bath seemed fine to us. I think a lot of "five stars" people were used to something bigger. We had room 17106, which had a great view of the "STRIP". The Bellagio fountain was a little to the side, but good view. Only draw back was that Caesars (directly across)is doing a major renovation and a lot of the grounds were torn up. Bulldozers and cranes all over. Piles of sand and cement trucks everywhere. Cant see them at night though. Went to Lindys for dinner and breakfast. Not the best. Pool is pretty decent, but you have to get there before 7:00 AM for a good spot. I swear, people go early, put a towel on a lounge, then go elsewhere. <Jim1of6 -at- AOL.com> - Berkley MA USA - Added 06/19/03 - [152.163.252***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 06/03 In June 2003 was our 2nd stay at the Flamingo. Our first stay was 11/2002. Our daughter was married at the Flamingo Hotel in the chapel garden. The food was the BEST at her quaint reception. Our room was wonderful as it looked down on the Bellagio Fountain. Service was wonderful, people were friendly and we were impressed with our first ever trip to Las Vegas. We gambled quite a bit but, having never been to a casino before EVER, we failed to sign up for the connection card. Our second stay was okay. We did not have the FANTASTIC experience as our first trip. Our room had no scenic view (even though we requested the view of the fountain again) and it took FOREVER to walk to the elevators from our room. We absolutely love the prime rib at Conrad's. It is the best we ever tasted. I think everyone should add Conrad's prime rib to their dining list. The breakfast buffet was very good, also. While gambling, the drinks were hard to come by. I would stop waitress' as they walked past and ask for a drink but most never came back. And I am a very good tipper. When I finally moved to another section I had a waitress immediately. But, deterred from my previous wait staff, I order two (2) drinks, anticipating a long wait. From then on, the waitress continued to bring me two drinks. Well, needless to say that lady got a huge tip from me! Now we are scheduled to return this June. I am worried as I heard they will not honor comps after 13 months. I think we will get in under the wire. We had great rates the past two times we were there but, even though the slot host reserved us at Casino rates, it is much higher than ever. I was hoping at least to get a free night but that did not materialize. If our stay is not any different this June, we may have to switch. I hate to do that because both times I went home with nearly as much money as I went with, which is okay by me. I saw the Strastosphere is offering room rates of $39.00 for the dates we have already booked at Flamingo. We will be paying nearly twice that! Hummmm But I love the location. <jan1953 -at- verizon.net> - USA - Added 03/21/04 - [209.158.47.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 05/03 - Good Visit Arrived at the airport and found out about the check in to Flamingo was available at airport. This was great. Vegas didn't seem as crowded this time as in the past. Lots of changes for the better at the Flamingo. We will continue to stay there in the future. Staff was very friendly and very atentive. At check out there was a meal billed to our room for Lindy's Coffee shop. I contested that. They made note of it and will have accounting review it.It remains to be seen about that. After reading some of the derogatory comments on this board we were a bit sceptical going in. That uneasiness was nullifies very quickly; upon check-in. Being able to check in at the airport is EXTREMELY nice. Just go to baggage carousel #1 and the check-in is right there. We were there 5 minutes and were done. Our room was excellent, a mini-suite upgrade that had six LARGE, ceiling to floor windows with an ecellent view out over the pool area. We were as far from the elevators as we could be, but that was little consequence considering how nice the room was. The casino was busy but not overcrowded. Between my wife and I we hit $650.00 literally in our first 10 minutes. Not a bad way to start a trip. The casino floor is clean but rambling. It takes a bit of time to get your bearings and find the strip front as opposed to the rear and valet areas. The brunch buffet was excellent, both in service and food. Lindys was not too good. Food was marginal at best and the service was pretty slow. There is a small deli, whose name escapes me, in the same general area as Lindy's. We had breakfast there and really liked it. Prices were reasonable and food was good. We usually stay at Treasure Island. As this trip was a bit last minute we had to try somewhere else and always liked the casino atmosphere at Flamingo and gave the hotel a shot. I am very glad we did. First for the good stuff, The pool area is fantastic, its large, well kept up, and has water slides and waterfalls. For sure its one of the best in Vegas. The location is great. Right in the center of the strip. Easy access to buses and in walking distace of many other hotels. The room rate was great only $55/nite. The rooms were clean, had plenty of space, beds were comfortable. However as reported in other ratings the rooms are getting a little tired(at least mine was) and need some TLC. The carpet had stains, there was a chair that was ready for the dump, and the linens were showing their age, but at only $55/nite this was still a good hotel. I was told by other at the hotel that the rooms in the south tower were nicer, but I did not see one. The stuff that wasn't so good was the resturants. There was a limited number, was always a long line to get in. Ate at Lindy's and it wasn't that great. Bugsy's deli was worse!!! I did not go to the buffet. Having been there with my kids who are picky eaters forced us to go elsewhere for meals. Couldn't even get a decent donut or bagel for breakfast. The casino was good size but had limited tables. The tobacco smoke was horrible. The smoke eaters need upgrades for sure. Tobacco smoke is everywhere in Vegas but other casinos (Treasure Island, Monte Carlo, Luxor)were not near as bad. The hotel is family Friendly, plenty of families around the pool and a nice wildlife habitat. All in all not a bad place to stay if you don't mind tobacco smoke and can handle limited food selections. <gbrass1959 -at- aol.com> - USA - Added 05/04/03 - [205.188.208***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 04/03 - Undecided The room was just an average room, we booked a King size bed non-smoking and ended up with a room with two double beds. The room was spacious and comfortable, with additional space for a sofa and coffee table, and other nice touches such as a sliding-door closet a full-length mirror, and central air conditioning system with an electronic thermostat (which worked wonderfully). Our room had a view of the strip, which was a nice touch. Room 17163 was large, with a fabulous view of the best pool area in Vegas, but the furniture is looking quite old, with worn corners, and a couple of broken knobs. The housekeeping was subpar, with mold on the shower curtain. A family with a toddler had stayed there before us, the teddy bear-shaped crackers remained under the chairs for our entire stay, as did the sticky fingerprints at knee level of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Shade your eyes when leaving your room, the electric blue flowered motif in the halls will blind you. Want to sit by the pool? Get up early, by noon you won't find a chair!! The casino is bright and you don't need a map to find your way out. Once you do exit onto the strip, BEWARE THE PORN PEDDLERS. There is one stationed every ten feet on this part of the strip, all sticking magazines in your face, and the ground is completely littered with them!!! If you are an SNL fan, see the Second City show, it is hillarious, worth every penny! The hotel's location is perfect, within walking distance of everything on the strip. I would stay here again, though the rooms do need a little work. ONE MAJOR COMPLAINT: The entire north portion of the lobby smelled of garbage! Unfortunate that there are three restaurants in this area, uncluding the two busiest ones (Lindy's and Paradise Buffet). Walking distance to Caesars, Bellagio, Paris, Venitian. We stay here anytime we get a good player's rate (last 2 visits were $35/night, which is excellent for this part of the strip). The rooms have always been very clean and nicely appointed (no in-room coffee, but most of the Vegas hotels don't have them.. I guess they want you to walk through the casino on the way to get the coffee...) Also make sure you get the Connection card coupon book when you check in, it has some good deals (including match play), and is one of the best coupon books around. The pool and grounds are beautiful, the pool area is one of the best in Vegas. They also have a mini-zoo with exotic birds on the grounds. We have eaten at the buffet several times, which is nice because it overlooks the landscape outside. The food at the buffet was good but nothing spactacular, about what we expected for the modest proce. My only complaint is the casino itself. I found no full pay VP machines, and although they advertise "single deck Blackjack" they only pay 6-5 for a natural, which more than negates the theoretical quarter percentage or so advantage of single deck BJ. Better off playing the regular BJ from the shoe, or do like I do and play somewhere else. I normally play here just enough to keep enough points on my card to keep the $35 room offers coming in the mail. Overall, great location, good rooms, stingy casino. <kwatt3038 -at- aol.com> - Phoenix AZ USA - Added 01/10/03 - [12.10.219***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 11/02 - Good Visit Just returned from Vegas & 5 days at the Flamingo. 1st of all even though I rate it as a good value the place is getting shabby. The casino is way too smokey. How about 1/2 the slot areas smoke free. The elevators are dirty & need maintenance. Saw a worker on the weekend & told us he was the only one on duty for the whole weekend. 1). The room was clean & the maid service excellent & on time. 2). The food buffet was a good value with the coupons. Otherwise a little high priced. Wait staff was great. 3). The slots were good for us & saw lots off winners too. 4). Table games - go next store & play at O'Sheas, friendly younger dealers who will talk to you & not act like they don't want to be there, its the same Players Club Card too, better drinks, more single deck BJ tables with $5 min. Final: What a great location for the price but if they don't get the place fixed up they are in trouble. And get those people out that keep trying to sell you Time Shares or give you free care products for a $15+ purchase( whats FREE about that??) This stay was a disappointment. The rooms are in need of an over haul. General Maintenance is very much necessary. My first day in Las Vegas was kind of chilly, so I turned on the heat to take the chill out of the room - no heat, so I called about it and a maintenance engineer came to my room and said there was a problem and they wouldn't be able to fix it properly until Monday, which was 4 days away and I would be leaving on Monday, HOWEVER, he did fix it so I could get heat, but then I was not able to get air, so either the system had to be turned completey off with no ventilation what so ever, or sufficate with the heat. I am sorry that I didn't insist on moving to another room, but I had unpacked and didn't want the hassle...never again, it would have been worth the inconvenience of packing and moving rather than being in an uncomfortable room for 4 nights. The slots are awful. Didn't win one quarter back in July when I visited the casino or this particular time in November. Housekeeping did a very thorough job in cleaning the rooms daily, so no complaints there, and I only ate at the restaurant (Lindys) one time. The Spa, was the real purpose for this trip, and it was decent, although their facilities need remodeling. The appearance is drab, but clean. My final comment is that if one is only looking for a room that is clean - that is the place for them, but other ammenties are lacking. I will not stay there until it has been completely remodeled, even though the location is EXCELLENT. P.S. Airport check in was great- arrived at 9:30 AM and was assigned a room immediately and it was available upon arrival around 10:30 AM. Our room had floor to ceiling windows and a view of the volcano at the Mirage. Not bad for 55 dollars a night. One complaint however was that our shower was handicaped accesable and the water did not drain down, instead it flooded the bathroom floor. We had to shower in the corner to make sure the water did not go all over. Our room was quite a distance from the elevator as well. We had to walk over 100 rooms and 4 hallways to get to it. After coming back from being out at 3:00 am, you don't want to walk that far. The location on the strip however was fantastic. We stayed at the Luxor on our first trip and that was way too far down. Here we were in the middle of it all. I loved the wildlife habitat also. Flamingos and penguins are a nice addition to any vacation. The pool was really great too, however being November it was way too cold to swim. The rooms, a little worn but ok - the bathroom is pathetic. I think the original tile was still on the wall, cracked, grout missing, mildew. Our room was a very, very long walk from the elevator...then through the casino to get out...didn't matter if we were going to Las Vegas Blvd or the valet...we had to go through a good portion of the casino. We were there for 6 nights, beginning on a Thursday. First two days were fine...on the 3rd day the room didn't get cleaned. Of course we didn't know it until late in the evening because we hadn't been in the room all day. Had to call for towels. They were brought promptly but no apology. Left a tip before we went out the next day just to make sure it wouldn't happen again. 4th day...room didn't get cleaned again...same thing...we had been out all day. Had to call for towels again. We were pre-paid through a package deal so we knew that they wouldn't comp our room for the "inconvenience." On day 5 the regular housekeeper returned and the room was spotless for the rest of our trip. On our way out we decided that we should definitely say something, so we did. They apologized and gave us a free upgrade for our next trip. Big deal...won't be staying there again so the free upgrade is a waste. Casino has tight, tight, tight machines. Ate Franklin's like they were going out of style. Never saw a cocktail waitress while we were there. Flamingo room was ok. Ate dinner there one evening...late...around 10 I think. Had 4 waiters but none of them seemed to have any objective other than to get out of there. The whole atmosphere of the hotel seems to have changed over the years. Doesn't feel like a fun place to be. <sandi527 -at- hotmail.com> - Rochester NY USA - Added 03/05/03 - [128.151.214.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/02 - Good Visit We stayed in the "Luxury Suite" as part of our wedding package and all I can say is "WOW"! Oh, and a bar area with cabinets and a fridge. The dealers and staff were all friendly, and we enjoyed both the buffet and Lindy's (the coffee shop). Room service was FAST and inexpensive and the bottled water in the room was $2.50 compared with $5 everywhere else. Room safes, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards come in every room (my family members all stayed there in standard rooms, which were also nice). The pool area is awesome and if you are considering a wedding, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Flamingo's chapel. I arrived on Saturday morning just after 9:00 AM and checked in here. Was in & out. Hotel shuttles right outside the door near here. Quick ride to hotel. Once I got here, noticed long lines at checkin at front desk. Those lines never seemed to get shorter whenever I looked in that direction. Since I arrived so early, wanted to get a room without waiting till 3:00 regular checkin. Was given the choice of 8th floor overlooking stripe or 10th floor overlooking the pool. I read in here on how the pool view is all palms tress, I took the strip view - BAD MOVE here -- If you want a view of the Strip, make sure your up high enough. Look out window and I see the roof of lower building in front part of hotel - has 4 big bright flood lights on them shining up (luckly, they shut them off at late night). As for looking at the "strip", the roof covered it, but I did get to see the taxi's all lined up in the front driveway of Ceasers across the street, along with the construction pit they are building on the corner. The Belaggio Fountainns were not in sight at all. And I felt i was pretty much in the middle of the hallway, didnt have long walk from elevator, but it could have been longer. Bathroom size is just like everyone else says -- incrediably small. I could not walk into bathroom and close door behind me without making some turn or move. Casino - seemed slots were tight, hardly saw anyone hitting big. Okay amount of tables - not too much problem finding seats. Lowest $ I could find was $5 tables. Poker room usually had at least 2 tables going (7 card stud, texas holdem) not much of a wait, plenty of dealers arounds so if they had enough, they open another table. Food - Busgy's was good food, and pretty good rates. Not too expensives. Didnt do Lindy's, always a line. Was disappointed in dinner buffet. Didnt go in after looking at menu out front. It was Prime Rib and seafood buffet, but what else did they have if your not a seafood buff. I go to vegas every year. Centralized location makes it nice to drop off souvinears and stuff in room when out shopping and then going back out for more. Having strip bus stop in front really nice (both local and express bus stop here) First time staying here, I will probably find another place next year. When we arrived, we had no idea where to park, there were no signs directing us. When my boyfriend went to iron his clothes for dinner, the iron didn't work, we called housekeeping for a new one, called again 30 minutes later, and finally an hour later I had to ask one of the other hotel guests to borrow theirs. We were late for dinner and we saw the guy bringing the iron as we finally made it to the elevator. This was very upsetting, they should have been able to bring us a new one much quicker than an hour and a half. We had to pull out the plugs from the sink and the shower in order for the water to drain. The water pressure in the shower was way to high, it almost hurt. We made reservations for massages at the spa for Sunday morning and the person who was supposed to do it, for my boyfriend, never showed up. Also although we had booked well in advance we were put in temporary accommodation for the first night as all the rooms were full. We stay on property for the most part, feel the hotel should offer enough things to keep us occupied in the way of good meals at a fair price with short lines or no waiting at all. Good, fun, entertainment where you don't have to pay $105 per person to see the tigers, (oops!) I mean show. A nice pool is a must with easy elevator access to the pool, We want a nice clean room with a TV that works, and a decent view. We want all this for a very low nightly room rate. This review is not based on weather or not we lost or won money gambling. This was our first stay at the Flamingo. The Flamingo provided all we wanted. It is a nice hotel. When I was younger and walked through the hotel I was always under the impression older people with money stayed here. My impression of the hotel has not changed since staying there. We stayed there Monday 8/19/02, checked out Friday 8/23/02 Let's start with check in. I suggest you use the air port check if possible. Hint, one person waits for the luggage while the other person handles the check in. We used the airport check in (fast) at 1:00 PM. We requested a room with a view of the Bellagio fountain show, We got it, but we were told it was not ready, other rooms were available. This is nothing new to me, remember check in is not till 3:00. I never ask the hotel to hurry up and get the room done. Why worry about it, there are plenty of things to do while waiting. Want a rush job, don't expect the best job. I expect to wait for the room in any hotel in Vegas. The maids can only clean so many just so fast. The Cab costs about $11.00, plus tip, air port to hotel, 15 minutes. I heard there was a shuttle to and from the hotel but I didn't look for it. At the hotel we checked our bags, It's a great time to explore the hotel, or visit other properties. At 3:00 we went to get the keys, the room was not ready and we were offered a different room. What's the hurry, you unpack in 15 minutes then your out and running again. We went back and got our room keys at 5:00 no big deal. the room # 22038 (From reading below I would guess this wing has been remodled) was great, much better than we expected for the $35.00 a night I was paying. How I got $35.00 a night, I got lucky! The room size was the standard Vegas room, it looked like new furniture and carpet, it was clean and shiny, came with 2 beds, a big table and 2 chairs, a sitting chair, a big thing that held drawers and the 20 inch TV, there was also a make up table with chair. The windows were from floor to ceiling, from wall to wall. We faced Bally's and we could see the fountain show. The bath room had one sink. There was room on one side of the sink for my things and room on the other side of the sink for the wife's things. The pluming worked fine. There was a hair dryer in there. The bathroom was average, I mean how much time do you spend in there, it's a bathroom. Want a great bathroom go to Caesars. The closet held the hang up cloths, enough hangers but we pack light. There was an iron and ironing board in the closet. Over all the room was clean, nice and was kept that way during our stay by housekeeping. There is a safe in the room for $3.00 a day or you can get a free box, it's at the desk where you pick up the keys. There is a wild life area, fish, penguins turtles and Flamingo's. I read where someone said the wild life area smelled bad, it does. From what I could see the animal keeper was having a hard time getting "Right Guard" under the flamingo's wings. The pool was great, very pretty, water falls, lots of palm trees, bushes and shade the grounds were clean. The main pool is a busy place, the smaller pool is a much slower pace. The kids slide is fine for smaller children, nothing special, but will keep the younger children busy for hours. The pool opens at 8:00 AM, the line starts to form about 7:30 for chairs. The chairs are gone by 8:30. People put their towels and bags down and disappear. If you don't try to get chairs at 8:00, go back about noon when people go to lunch. One day we tried the smaller pool about noon and got 2 chairs right away. Frozen drinks pool side are about $6.50, cocktail gals were always walking by. For lunch pool side we didn't try the snack shop, we had it brought to us in the chairs, 2 Burgers, chips, with 2 beers + tip ran $29.00. Tasty, but a Little over priced to my thinking. The hotel staff I found to be nice and helpful. Because it was our first stay here we had lots of questions, no grumpy people. I found when I offered a smile I got the extra effort from staff that I wanted. Maybe that's how I got the room I wanted? The lobby and public areas were clean, there was the normal finger prints, dents and scuffs you find in any hotel if you look hard enough. The casino was clean, not shabby looking. I would say 3/4 of the people were age 40 and up, not flashy, not grubby, not demanding, but friendly. Many people seemed to be veterans of Vegas that are regular Flamingo customers. This hotel is no mega resort but don't get me wrong, the Flamingo is big. There was a good assortment of table games (single deck black jack paid 6-5 for black jack ) the double deck BJ was fair odds. Table minimums, I saw a few tables at $5.00. All the dealers were pleasant and smiling even to the occasional Jerk that showed up. You know the guy, no table etiquette. Thank goodness those people were far and few between. There were plenty of slots, all different sizes shapes, nickels on up. It appeared to me the slots ate your money fast or you hit the jack pot. But, I saw one lady sitting at the same quarter machine for 13 hours. She had put $40.00 in the machine to start. she had not hit a jackpot. The coin tray was 1/2 full of quarters with some 600 credits still on it, so anything is possible. There is a big Sports book and small keno lounge. One disappointment was the lack of 9-6 jacks or better video poker machines. I found two in the high slot area. The best I could find was two $1.00, 8-5 machines next to the deli. Slot club, the new card is good at any of the Park Place hotels, even O'Shaes next door. Looks like it's all programed into one computer. In the Flamingo you can also use your slot card to be rated on any black jack table, even $5.00. There is a very nice lady there named Rachel passing out the slot cards and was very good at explaining how the point system worked when I got my cards. Room service: They said you get it in 30 minutes, it was there, it was still hot, the butter melted on the pancakes. spa: All I did there was get in a quick short workout, on the machines and dumb bells. It's fine, nice staff, clean locker room. With the coupon it got the price down to $15.00. If you want a massage make your reservations early. barber shop, manicure for men cost $25.00 shopping was fine for the wife. As for location, if you have been to Vegas, you know. I rate this hotel very very high it was an enjoyable stay, comfortable atmosphere, I will stay here again before returning to Treasure Island or Luxor at their mega resort over inflated room rates. I have rated the Deli, Flamingo room, dinner buffet and Alta Villa in the proper sections if your interested. <ts1495 -at- aol.com> - IL USA - Added 09/03/02 - [205.188.208.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/02 - Good Visit Third time here in fifteen years. Check-in: The airport checkin is only available in one terminal (# 1 I think?). Luckily, checkin at the hotel at 6pm was only ten minutes, and the luggage was brought up in less than 15 minutes. I've seen the hour-long lines many times there, so beware. Room/Rate: I asked for a large room (two adults, two kids, for two weeks), and we got a corner room facing the pool area. The room was huge - the normal two double beds, plus a living area with a large couch and two large chairs. We also requested a fridge (no charge) and it was brought up within three hours of check in. The bathroom was standard size - not small as other reviews have stated. Our room was very modern and clean - carpets, walls, ceilings all in great shape. All this for $45/nite. Pool Area: Fantastic! Pools open from 8 to 8 (hot tubs 24 hours). Waterfalls, slides, many, many palm trees (very tropical) with water misters, many lifeguards (alert too), many cocktail waitresses. Two complaints though: 1) water is kept cold on purpose (don't know why, but it is); 2) the fight for chairs (one group of ladies, bitches actually), removed our towels and personal belongings, and tossed them all in the used towel bin (security wouldn't do anything, so we did something, but I won't say what). The only two better pool areas are at Mandalay Bay and the Hard Rock. The rest seem almost sterile. Food/Drink: Great burgers w/ chips at the poolside grill, expensive though ($8). Their funbook gives 2/1 coupons for burgers/hotdogs in the inside deli (good burgers w/fries). Lindys is just average, but for a coffee shop, I'm not looking for 5star. The beers and soda are expensive ($5 & $3 respectively) at the poolside bar. Go to the inside store behind the pool in the timeshare building for 1/3 the price. We didn't eat at the other restaurants inside, but have heard they are all good. Casino/Hotel: A little crowded for my liking. No clear pathway to get in our out, especially pushing a stroller. The hotel looked clean everywhere we went. However, we did see drink glasses / empty beer bottlesleft in the room hallways. I'd blame the maids, but why do people decide to leave glasses/bottles in the halls. Location: It's where you want to be. When I go again, the Flamingo will be my first choice. <kilperk -at- yahoo.com> - MA USA - Added 09/09/02 - [198.51.251.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/02 - Good Visit This is a nice place to stay. Nothing bad, but kind of a hassle to change hotels after the first day. When we arrived back at the Flamingo for check-in, they told us that they didn't have a room for us because the people in "our" room had decided on late check-out! Excuse me!!!! My husband threw a little fit and they finally put us into a suite for the same price. It was pretty big and clean, but a little dingy and out-dated. A few stains here and there, etc. Nice view of the pool area, though. Lines at check-in and check-out were slightly long, but not terrible. Despite the room-changing ordeal, we found the stay enjoyable. The casino is nice and friendly and the location is awesome. I had stayed here a few years ago with no problems. We would probably stay here again, although we're going to try a few other places first. <lori_blue -at- yahoo.com> - USA - Added 02/22/03 - [12.211.49.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/02 - Good Visit Is there a better location than the Flamingo? What a difference the renovation made. The room looked fresh and clean. There were none of the problems that plagued our last visit. The only blemish was a small piece of wall paper that was peeling. The room was spacious with two chairs and a table. There was also a love seat. The windows in the room are floor to ceiling and provide an excellent view. Our room was 22057 and was a pool view. The pool view was fine by us. We've been to Vegas enough that a strip view is no longer important. Plus, the strip view faces West and catches the late day sun. Our pool view room was in the shade during the hottest part of the day. I still don't like the casino. At the quarter level, the best pay tables were far below full pay. I don't mind a small house edge but I don't feel like just handing them my wallet either. Until they improve the video poker pay tables, we won't be playing at the Flamingo. The restaraunt selection seems to be pretty decent. I can't comment on the quality as we didn't eat at any of them. To my surpise, at the airport check-in I waited less than 3 minutes, was given a choice of rooms (picked the 18th floor facing Ceasers with a full view of the fountains at Bellagio, the window consumed 90% of the wall) all for an unbelievable rate of 45 bucks a night! The room was nice, small TV (who watches TV in Vegas?), and the bathroom was kinda small also but clean. Maid service was very good. I was very pleased. Overall service was good except the cocktail waitress who was stingy with the drinks. Stayed away from the casino since everytime I tried the slots or tables I made a donation. The location made up for that. I hit up the coupons in the park place fun book given at resistration and the internet coupons for online resistration for even more cut rates. 2 for 1 buffet etc. Without a doubt value rate for the flamingo is a 10. We took our ten year old to show him the sites and mid-strip has some sites. Our room was large and gorgeous. Floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Bellagio fountains! Well furnished with a king-sized bed, three sitting chairs, a table, a couch large enough for our son to sleep on, a make-up table and stool, a coffee table, two night tables along with an armoire. The bathroom wasn't overly large but the shower/bath was nice and included a clothes line for wet swimming suits. A hair dryer and make-up mirror were handy and the bath was well stocked with amendities. Our elevators dropped us off to a straight, quick walk through a sitting area to the beautiful garden pool area. What a lovely area it is! The large water slide is fun for all ages. A large main pool with four waterfalls. A beautiful "upper pool" and smaller pools interconnected with slides. A wildlife habitat with many other waterfalls add to the beauty. Cannot say enough good things about the grounds. The housekeeping service was prompt along with both check in and out( I did see some horrendous lines Friday.) The parking ramp, once located, was a quick enclosed walk. I do have a couple of negatives amoung my praises. I have read about the "worn look". I didn't find that in the room, elevators or hallways but did in the Gift Shop. Carpet there needs replacing soon! I also am of the opinion that the management should hire about three people to do no more than walk around washing glass whether it be windows or doors. A lot of smudging and hand prints about. I found the restaurants had the usual high strip prices with few deals to be found. Perhaps, I only find the prices high in comparison with downtown or home. All in all however, we were extremely happy with our choice of the Flamingo as home for this past trip <clearspot -at- centurytel.net> - Kendall WI USA - Added 07/27/02 - [64.91.70.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/02 - Good Visit We did the check in at the airport about 4:00pm. This was great. Nobody was there when we were. Told the desk person it was our anniversary and asked for an upgrade. No upgrade. Indicated they had 2 rooms available - 5th floor with pool view or a higher floor with no view. Took the 5th floor. Some view though, just the tops of all the palm trees surrounding the pool. The check in desk at the hotel had a very long line even that late in the afternoon on a Monday, so glad we did the airport check in. We thought the room was quite nice. Comparing it to Westward Ho, where we stayed in January, it was a definite improvement. Very conveniently located to the pool, outside doors and buffet/restaurant area. I agree that the bathroom is quite small and doesn't accommodate 2 people. The hotel is pretty big and we had a difficult time finding the correct elevators to our section of rooms until we became more familiar. The pool was quite crowded, but we managed to find a place by the waterfall pool area. There is a guy at the entrance who is supposed to be checking room keys, but he wasn't interested in doing so and we walked right past him. If you want a towels though, they demand a room key. They had the pool grill going and we got hamburgers. Yum! Would have been better if they provided all of the fixings - no veggies, but the meat was good and the bun was fresh and soft. You can charge food and drinks to your room, which was quite convenient. About 3:00pm people started clearing out, which left plenty of room. Checked out the Flamingo and Penguin exhibit. Was able to watch while the caretakers fed the penguins. They are so cute with lots of personality. The caretaker gave an overview of their history and preservation efforts. Didn't like the casino. Too crowed and the tables to close together. Dealers were not very friendly either. Great location on the Strip, but the hotel is way to big for our taste and the pool area too crowded. With them adding the Baywatch attraction to the pool, it'll only be worse, so probably won't be staying there again. <KR_LVN -at- hotmail.com> - Ft. The pools are the best in Vegas I've been told by people who have tried lots of other casinos. The casino is quite large and airy, not bothered by smoke. Registration lineups are long, but lots of attendants and lines move very quickly. The location is wonderful, smack in the middle of the strip. Like the Las Vegas Hilton (home of the overpriced Star Trek ride), this hotel's time has passed. If you are on business and only want a room to sleep, this will pass muster. Otherwise, look elsewhere spend a little more and enjoy the "New Vegas Experience". Rooms are quite adequate and colorful. Each room has a safe. Rooms are average sized and are comfortable. The pool is quite nice with spritzers. Children will enjoy seeing the Flamingos and Penguins in the pool area, but let's be honest. If you have kids, they will be much more impressed if you stay at true theme hotels (Luxor, Excalibur or Treasure Island). I want to give this a better review, but with all the new properties on the strip and the relative pricing war that occurs on a regular basis in Vegas Hotels, I would look elsewhere. More good than bad to say about the Flamingo, but I will break it down for you: The Good: 1. Cannot beat the location. If this is your first time in Vegas and you want to see it all, stay in the middle of the strip so you can go North or South. 2. Value- much cheaper to stay here than neighboring hotels (Bellagio, Caesar's) 3. Very easy to get around and the elevators are quick. 4. Good service. Never really came across rude people and the blackjack dealers seemed to actually have fun at work (Maybe I'm saying this becuase I won here.) And now for the Bad: 1. Room sucked! Even though I got what I wanted (smoking, king bed, view of the strip), the room looked like it needed new carpets, paint, and sheets. Small TV with limited channels. It was clean, but needs a little bit of renovating. 2. Maid Service- I read someone else's comments that their idea of cleaning your room is to change the towels. This is true. One day, I brought our garbage and towels out into the hallway to get rid of them. 3. Check-in- Use the airport check in if you can. We waited over an hour to check in. Check out was good. It only took five minutes. Overall, I was pleased with the Flamingo. Biggest disappointment was the room but who really cares about the size of your room TV in Vegas!! It was nice to have your keys and go straight to your room. Our room may have been recently renovated. It was very nice and clean and not worn looking at all. The carpet on the 7th floor also looked new. It's a non-smoking floor, so maybe that helps. Housekeeping was great and always brought up extra towels promptly when requested. We ate bagels at Bugsy's a few mornings for breakfast and they were good. I love any place that will actually toast them! We didn't eat at any of the other restaurants. The pools are very nice. We lounged around the large one. It was crowded, but chairs were still available. I liked how they had small pool areas for kids. We actually encountered very few children, teens, etc. I have two of my own and find it puzzling that people bring them to Vegas. So if you're looking for a more "adult" clientle, I think the Flamingo fits the bill. Cocktails at the pool were pricey during the day, but reasonable at Happy Hour. Flamingo's rates tend to be very low compared to their neighbors, and it's a good value when you consider the location and pool. The room was clean, comfortable, and pretty typical of any decent hotel. Unlike what many others have said here, I did not have any problems with worn down furniture or stains on anything. The pool is among the top ten on the Strip, but like most of the better pools, it's very tough to get a couple chairs unless you get down there very early in the morning. The option of renting a cabana would be nice. The casino left a lot to be desired. Although there are plenty of tables, it's hard to find a good blackjack game for less than $25. At the Flamingo they have a lot of those new "single deck" games that only pay 6-5 on blackjack. Considering that on a busy table the deck is reshuffled every hand or every other hand, this is a sucker bet. I hope this game doesn't keep growing in popularity on the Strip. The sportsbook was small and not up to par with the sportsbooks you can find within walking distance. I ended up doing very little gaming at the Flamingo. No cleaning of anything, no emptying the garbage, no vacumming, no taking away used dishes, no wiping up the bathroom, NOTHING. I was shocked at this and we complained upon checkout. They reaction was shrugged shoulders and a "oh well". We asked for an extra blanket and after 3 phones calls, and an hour and 1/2 wait, we finally got it. Also, Lindy's coffee shop, you can skip that. We were starving very late one night and settled for that. The WORST service I have ever encountered anywhere. All the other people sitting around us agreed also. We were all timing and making bets on how long it would take to be waited on then get the food. We had no problems getting extra towels, or pillows. The room was large to fit all of us, without feeling like we were stepping all over each other. The location was great. The buffet was good, and not overly priced. Lindys was a different story, the service was not that great, nor the food. And in my opinion, the food we got was not worth what we paid (for lunch for 3 people we paid 60.00) The biggest pain was with the phone. They charge a 1.00 for the first 20 mins, and 10 cents a min after that. Which isn’t all that bad. But they wanted either a credit card, or a 100.00 deposit before you could use the phone in your room. I do understand the reason for this, so they don’t get stiffed with a high phone bill..but give me a break...a 100.00. That is 2000 mins on the phone. I don’t know of anyone who goes to Vegas and spends that much time on the phone. I think that maybe 20-50.00 would be more understandable. But other than that, the trip was great. After all the years this hotel has been in operation it still has to be one of the finest on the strip and probably in all of Las Vegas. <sjdavison -at- shaw.ca> - Red Deer AB Canada - Added 02/08/02 - [24.70.95.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/02 - Good Visit Have stayed here 8 times. Have also stayed at Paris, MGM, NYNY. The location of the Flamingo can't be beat. Also the size of the casino is great and you don't have to walk 4 miles to your room. Airport check-in super convenient. Property and rooms are definitely showing their age though. Spa is subpar. Also, the pool in the summer - its impossible to get a seat and one of the most crowded I have seen - would not stay here in summer. Peking Market is fabulous everytime I go - very fresh food. But there is just something about the ambiance of the Flamingo - will keep me going back. <leeann1009 -at- aol.com> - Boston USA - Added 02/09/02 - [205.188.196***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/02 - Good Visit This hotel is without question the best vaue on the strip. The location is 2nd. to none. The staff is friendly and the service outstanding. Check in was quick and although the hotel was busy the day we checked in , I was able to get a room in view of the fountains of Bellagio. The Barbary Coast next door was a great place just to have a few drinks at just $1.00. We had the dinner buffet, which was fabulous, especially if you like crab legs but don't like all the work involved. They are all cut in half. It's the only time I eat them. I did quite well at the Flamingo's tables, but got beat up everywhere else. If you are on a budget or even if you're not,the Flamingo is the place to go. <AuburnMP -at- cs.com> - Auburn MI USA - Added 02/17/02 - [152.163.213***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 01/02 - Good Visit Room was small but had a great view of the strip. Excellent location across from Caesars. Room service is available 24 hours, was prompt and relatively inexpensive. Pool area was top notch so be sure to visit when it is warm. Spa/exercise facilities were below average. The seafood buffet was well worth $14.99. Cocktail service in the casino was above average. Catch the 2nd City show for a break from the casino. <dap3552 -at- yahoo.com> - Pleasant Prairie WI USA - Added 01/22/02 - [24.160.250***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 01/02 - Good Visit While not one of the top-end properties, the Flamingo is a very nice hotel and possible the best value among hotels on the Strip. Stayed Thursday through Saturday at an internet rate of $55 per night. Had a few double deck BJ games, but always at the $25 level. Lower stakes available nearby at Barbary Coast, Imperial Palace, and Fitzeralds. Stay away from their single deck BJ game that pays 6-5 on blackjack. Spa is nothing spectacular but you can get a decent massage. Ask for Mark. Really enjoyed playing craps here. Of course, the fact that I did very well at the tables while there probably goes a long way towards influencing my view of the place. Very friendly dealers who appreciated their tips. I think the fact that Park Place now has a single players card that cover all their properties is a big plus as well. During my 3 day stay I had more than 12 hours of craps play, so I will be curious to know if that rates high enough for room comps. Asking the pit boss for a buffet was no problem. Being that the weather was in the 50s I didn't have a chance to try their pool area, but it is very nice. Also keep in mind that although the Flamingo is not officially a Hilton property they did give me points on my Hilton Honors card. I may make the Flamingo my Las Vegas home from now on. <jorylu -at- yahoo.com> - Minneapolis MN USA - Added 01/30/02 - [144.15.249***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 01/02 - Good Visit Stayed here in January & had a great time. The location is perfect with the surrounding properties having so much to offer. This is an older property but with prices in the $150-200 range nearby the value here can't be beat.Be sure to sign up for the slot club as we continue to receive numerous offers throughout the year. The airport check-in saves so much time & funbooks are readily available for the asking at the right end of the hotel check-in counter. <luxorman -at- aol.com> - Matthews NC USA - Added 02/16/02 - [205.188.193***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 01/02 Booked two rooms at the Flamingo for January 24 over the phone. Internet rate was $45, but when I told them my Flamingo players card number they gave me both rooms at the casino rate of $25. Upon arrival they also gave us coupon sheets, which included a coupon for $10 in slot play, which we simply redeemed at the main casino cashier for cash. $15 for rooms at the ideal location on the strip is absolutely unbelievable! CHECK-IN: Not the best check-in experience. We requested two king bed rooms, 1 on a high floor and another on a low floor, both non-smoking and both with strip views. The check-in lady rudely told me that these were not available and wanted us two take double-bed, smoking rooms, but after I pushed a little she gave us basically what we requested (only that my room on the 24th floor was as far as possible from the elevators and we didn’t have great views). CHECK-OUT: TV check-out is great. No lines, done in seconds. ROOMS: Both of our rooms were nicely decorated, clean and quiet, yet fairly basic. They definitely do look a little aged, but since we spent very little time in the rooms this wasn’t an issue for us. FOOD: We were going use 2 for 1s and eat at the Flamingo buffet but after looking at it we decided to eat elsewhere. CASINO: We didn’t play much here because there was no particular reason to. We are not slot players (although I saw 4 jackpots in a short time near the sports book), we could not find any video poker machines with good payout schedules, and the table games do not have great odds (ie. 6:5 for blackjack in single-deck 21). However, there are a lot of $5 minimums and $10 mini-baccarat, which I played several match-play coupons on. Drink service was not as good as a lot of other joints. OTHERS: The location is unbeatable. You could spend days exploring all of the hotels within a 20 minute walk of the Flamingo. The free wildlife sanctuary near the pool area is a beautiful, relaxing break from intense casino action. On a whole, the Flamingo is a very good value. You can’t get a better location at any price, and most of the staff is very friendly. However, if the room price is comparable, I think that Bally’s is a nicer place to stay. <dbeaverboner -at- excite.com> - USA - Added 02/22/02 - [206.186.161***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 01/02 - Good Visit Rooms are small but nicely furnished. First off.... very convenient "at the airport check-in". We got into Vegas around 9 am. Their check-in desk was just opening. NO one in line, two clerks on staff. They were very helpful and polite. They made sure we got a room that was cleaned and ready to occupy. Filled out the paperwork, they gave us the keys, and when we got to the hotel just went directly up to our room! Amazingly, check-out was even easier!!! We did it right on our in-room TV and avoided standing in any lines. The room was very spacious, and well appointed. Nice view of the Strip. Only criticism was the TV size (17 or 19 inch) not real big, and limited variety of channels on the cable system. But we were not in Las Vegas to watch TV so I guess it's not a major issue. Housekeeping was exceptional. Room was cleaned early every day. Granted, the week we were there(12/16-12/21) it was not very crowded, but we still got efficient and friendly service in all of the restaurants and in the casino. Even though it has 3600-plus rooms, it was easy to get around in, and everything seemed nearby. Right near our bank of 8 elevators (one of which was ready and waiting for us most of the time!) were three dining choices (buffet, Lindy's, and Flamingo Room). The casino itself was literally just steps away. No long hikes to get where you want to go. The Flamingo's center strip location is fantastic. Casino Royale, Harrah's, Imperial Palace, O'Shea's, Barbary Coast, Bally's, Bellagio, Paris, Caeser's...all are within a very short stroll. Plus there's a bus stop right in front of the Flamingo if you want to head North on the Strip or go downtown. We have been to Vegas about eight times. This is the first time we stayed at the Flamingo, and would definitely stay there again. I'm sure you can stay in a much more upscale place on the Strip, but the location, price and service make the Flamingo a great value. <mrbig -at- jasnetworks.net> - Battle Creek MI USA - Added 01/02/02 - [63.78.141.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 12/01 - Good Visit This is a class place. The hotel is very good, although we didn't think the rooms were as nice as at some ajoining propeties, but still very good. Its clean and comfortable. One of the best pools on the strip. The gaming at this casino was pretty good, particularly the Blazing 7 dollar slots late at night. Good Host service at this hotel also, they take good care of you. The buffet is very good, one of the best we found on the strip. <fmyers7428 -at- aol.com> - Apple Valley MN USA - Added 01/06/02 - [64.12.102***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 12/01 - Good Visit My Wife and I were completely happy with our stay. Wonderful value for $50 a night! The view from our window was not great but we didn't spend too much time looking out. The casino and Alta Villa restaurant were very nice. Hotel is big but not overwhelming. Definitely older than Paris or some others but still beautiful. I could have stayed poolside the whole time I was there.... Almost did. My only sore point was check out. Dozens of folks trying to get out and get to the airport, etc. and only ONE person at the desk. Still, we found someone to talk to and were able to do express check out and make it to the plane on time. Would definitely consider staying there again. <nowjustjo -at- yahoo.com> - USA - Added 01/15/02 - [146.145.219***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/01 - Bad Visit My fiance at the time and I decided that Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon, would be a great place to get married. We were expecting around 25 friends and relatives to join us at this occasion. Since most people would be travelling from different parts of the country we wanted to stay at the same hotel We settled on staying at the Flamingo. We were told that it was definitely possible for our rooms to located near to one another. We were told that if we mentioned that we were on our honeymoon when we checked that they would upgrade us. Well none of this happened. Our parties ended up scattered throughout the hotel. On different floors in different wings of the hotel. The clerk at check in could ahve cared less that it was our honeymoon. We ended up with a beautiful view of a wall. Our room was extremely worn and not very clean. Service throughout the hotel was very poor to say the very least. We would never set foot in this property again. <tmurphy -at- grayslake.lib.il.us> - Round Lake IL USA - Added 08/29/02 - [64.107.138.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/01 - Good Visit located right in the heart of the strip, you can be off the elevator and be on the street within 5 minutes. We have visited Las Vegas every year for the last three years and do not plan to stop. Since we had such a great experience with the hotel; location on the strip, price, buffets, helpful staff, friendly casinos, etc, we decided to stay there again this year. When I called to check availability I was quoted a certain price and when I called back after checking with my wife I was quoted a different price. The person said they were sorry and that they could not do anything about it. After talking with the front office personnel I was informed that they would honor what was previously agreed upon. They also told us they were sorry for the inconvenience and misunderstandings. For the price of the hotel, the location, the service and professionalism of it’s staff, hostess and hosts, the Flamingo Las Vegas is an outstanding value. I have traveled from shacks in third world countries to suites in the Seychelles and I would recommend this property to anyone from the first time visitor to the seasoned veteran. B. I got there at 8am and allowed me to check-in early at noon. The brunch buffet was pretty decent, good value for the location. I believed I staed in tower 6, which are suppose to be newer rooms. I had 2 beds (forgot if they were doubles or queens) , a semi view of the strip ( i could see IP and mirage). the bathroom ceiling is about 6'6 high, when I took my shirt off on the bath room, my hand hit the ceiling. bathroom are really narrow also. the room had 2 chairs, you can combine the 2 chairs and make a small bed for a smaller person.
