The casino is fun, and it's an old historic property, but I just couldn't get a good nights rest here. On the second floor we could clearly hear the ringing of slot machines from the casino just below us, and the music from Fremont street plays all night long - right outside your window. Argh!

The rooms at the Golden Gate are somewhat nasty. The casino and the coffe shop are the highlights of property. The cocktail service is awesome. Everytime I visit the Golden Gate I get "piss myself" drunk and have a hell of a time. One warning about the property ***** The Golden Gate does attract the gay community. On many occasions I have witnessed man-to-man kissing and hugging. It didn't bother me but some redneck might be horrified by displays of homosexuality. Buyer beware!!!
The shrimp cocktail is awesome and if I didn't mention the beer is always ice cold!!!!!

I have heard a lot about the .99 shrimp cocktail so I had to try it. I was not dissapointed! Instead of 5 big shrimp you get a dish of small shrimp, at least 60 or 70 with cocktail sause! Almost too many to eat! One of the best values in Las Vegas!

I didn't stay here, but I really liked this place. You see I'm a Casino Chip Collector, and of course I had to get some from this place, what with this being my 1st trip to Vegas. The place was dark, not smokey at all and was covered with rich dark woods. As I approached the gaming area I was greeted by a smiling, tuxedoed piano player. This place is what I really thought the old time vegas was like! And as other posters have said the shrimp cocktail is amazing, and the beer ice cold!

Hotel employees all snotty. Casino employees all nice. Food great. Room not. loud, noisy neighboors, Terribly small room for the price.

This is a true classic! The rooms are quaint and offer a look back in time. Good place to eat too. Hard to believe it has been around 100 years. True nostalgia!!!!!

I didn't stay at the hotel but ate in their coffee shop. The $7.95 porterhouse steak special is very good and very popular.

Had great deal of fun gambling at Golden Gate. While we have chosen other downtown properties for our lodging, its "old Vegas" style is wonderful contrast to the mega resorts on the Strip. If you like to get away from the glitz of the mega resorts with their high minimums, expensive food, and crowds and if you long for Vegas the way it used to be, give the Gate a try.

It is not the strip, with all of your wanna-be high rollers and really fake people with the white shoes, white belts, and Ray-Bans indoors. It is a piece of Americana. The diner is great, the Deli is wonderful. The people that work here are genuine and real. The games are low-key, the cocktail service is prompt, the $3 craps table is 5X odds, the Let-It-Ride table is $3. Okay, i am not a high roller but I like playing. I have stayed on the strip three times and this is the first trip downtown. I will always "visit" the strip for touristy type stuff but when I want to enjoy the visit, downtown is much more enjoyable. Everything is in walking distance, unlike the strip and its "monorail". The light show is okay the first time, and dont expect to get sleep before 12:00 at night, but if you are expecting to get sleep before 12:00 in LV you probably should go to Barstow or Bishop for sleep. Non-pretentious, no frills, but I will definitely return!

We stayed on the 2nd floor. The room itself was fine. The noise was unbearable. We could hear the casino quite clearly. Only spent 1 night there then moved to the Golden Nugget - Heavenly!
Shrimp cocktail was great. Really liked the casino.

Casino is very good. The shrimp bar is excellent. The rooms suck, too noisy and too small! Very nice place to play and eat, but dont stay there!

Nicest hotel downtown and if on the strip would be considered one of the best.
Casino was crowded during our visit and the casino staff were professional but far from friendly. However, the hotel room was awesome. Very clean, very comfortable! The bed was perfect. I've never slept better in a hotel room. Check-in was quick, check-out slower but still okay. The entire hotel staff was very courteous and professional, they all seemed to know their jobs well. The buffet was alright but small. Quality of food was very good but if you are in the mood for a buffet downtown, head for Main Street Station. I would recommend Golden Nugget to anyone who wants first rate accommodations in a classic vegas atmoshere without the "Disneyland Effect" of the Strip. Great value!
