Beautiful casino and most luxurious in the DOWNTOWN area. As far as the Buffet goes...the breakfast is great...the dinner buffet at $11.75 was terrible...not enough choices and 3 our of the 4 meats were horrible. New management?? This is our 2nd stay....buffet has gone down since our last stay. Security is good, parking is good, hotel BEAUTIFUL - spacious rooms, etc. Wonderful location. Our stay was Dec 16-18, 2003.

Stayed from Dec 14-18. The room was very nice and had a good view of the strip. The only problem I had was that the room was an extremly long walk to and from the elevators. The buffet was o.k. and very small. Expect to wait in line. Overall, we would definetly stay here again.

This is still the jewell of downtown. You can stay in a AAA 4-Diamond hotel
and still have variety also within a short walk. My new home in Las Vegas.

I just discovered this website so I wanted to write a review. Actually, I didn't just visit the Golden Nugget, but I have stayed there 3 times in the past 5 or 6 years, so I feel pretty qualified to have an opinion of the place. Let me say this is by far one of the nicest and classiest places I've ever stayed in. We stayed in the tower each time and the rooms were some of the nicest I've ever seen. View of the strip was excellent. Service has always been top-notch. Room service is good. If you are staying downtown I guarantee you this is the nicest place by far. The first time we went, I won $800 only minutes after being the casino!! I guess it was beginner's luck because I didn't win a dime the following two times I visited. The buffet was very good as well. The only complaint I ever had about GN is that their pool has WAY too much chlorine for some reason. It's been like that each year I've stayed. I will say in their defense, however, that the last time I complained because the chlorine had bleached my swim trunks and basically ruined them, at which point they sent up a person to fill out a report and within a couple of weeks I received a reimbursement check for the cost of my swim trunks. So at least the took care of it! One drawback of staying downtown, of course, is that your stay will likely involve a lot of cab rides to/from the strip. Expect to pay $20-25 for roundtrip plus tips. However, there is a public bus stop downtown that will take you to the strip.

This is the first time that my wife and I stayed at GN,we stayed at various strip Hotels and several downtown Hotels.The GN is by far the best Hotel for being treated like your special.Great service,clean room,great food,and somewhat loose slot machines.Hope to come back again!

This was my first stay at the Golden Nugget, stayed two nights in late November.
This property is first class all the way!! I have stayed at other places downtown which are adequate, but the Nugget is a first class place. Front desk staff were friendly and professional. The rooms are nicely decorated with a sitting area. There is also a desk to use a work area. We were in the North tower, which from my research is nicer than the South tower. Our reservation was a Golden Nugget e-mail promotion for the older South tower rooms, but at check-in I asked for and got a North tower Room for no extra charge.
Lots of high-rollers wandering around this place, watched a guy playing craps with $100.00 chips. We never tried the buffet as the line was quite long, but with a long line I would assume the food is good. People we spoke with said the Nugget Buffet is the best one downtown. Had limited luck in the casino, but with it being right in the middle of the downtown Fremont Street Experience, just walk out the door to another casino across the street or next door.
The Nugget is as good if not better than some of the popular strip hotels.
I have been to Las Vegas numerous times and always stayed on the strip, this is my second trip with a stay downtown and won’t be my last. I usually go for 4 nights and from now on will split my stay, staying at least two nights downtown and two night somewhere else. I will defiantly stay at the Golden Nugget again sometime in the future.
If you have never stayed downtown, and are thinking about a change and staying downtown on your next Las Vegas trip, consider the Golden Nugget, you won’t be disappointed.

The Golden Nugget is rated so highly for a reason. We went during the Breeder's Cup and had fun lounging by the pool - then running in to the sports book to place our wagers. Everything was nice. You feel good when you are staying at the Golden Nugget. And its only a short walk to a number of other fun Casinos.

Stayed at the Nugget in October.Service was excellent as usual.Restaurants excellent.Suite was excellent(separate sleeping and living areas,wet bar,refrigerator).Comped for the stay,but at $49 the regular rooms are a bargain.Excellent BJ rules.New owners taking over in weeks.They promise to make it even more customer-friendly.This will be interesting.

Spent 3 nights here, 4-7 Sep. Excellent stay. Service was second to none every single time we requested something. No matter if it was at the bar, in the casino, or in our hotel room, which was lovely, our every beckon call was answered quickly, correctly, and professionally. Will definitely be staying at this establishment again.

Hotel was beautiful, but Management definitely needs to educate their staff about things available to people with disabilities. On their web site, there is a part that lists services under ADA. One of them states that if you have a hard time standing, you can get a line pass for the Carson Street Cafe and the Buffet. I had the check in clerk tell me that there was no such thing and asked her to speak with her manager because it is on the Golden Nugget.com website...and I needed the pass for my mother....Ifinally got the pass. You might want to consider bringing your own toilet paper, one day house keeping didn't put an extrra roll in the room and it took 3 calls to housekeeping and almost 1 hr to get 1 roll. then there was an incident with a rude waitress in the sports book area, where if your don't have gonads, you don't get served. I spoke to a Manager and was compd for the inconveniences.
definitely visit the Spa...excellent treatment and services.

AWESOME resort. The rooms were good sized and clean, the entire staff was courtious, and the food was an excellent value.
When we checked in, the girl at the front desk asked a ton of questions about where we wanted our room (what kind of view, what floor, etc.), and our room was everything we wanted (high floor with strip view).
The Carson Street Cafe was awesome, very reasonably priced, and the service was perfect.
I loved the location, just a short walk to Freemont street and other casinos.
I highly recommend staying here, especially if you want a four-star hotel at a good value.

Nice room, great staff! Everyone was extremely helpful and very nice. I enjoyed the Freemont location. Very people-friendly atmosphere. It's nice not to have to contend with car traffic.

Second visit to the Nugget. Received an email promotion for $39/nite rooms. Easy, accomodating checkin. Nicely appointed clean rooms --bathroom kind of small but decent. Nice pool area - sun all day long. The spa and spa services are very good and a great value. Overall, the service at the Nugg is top notch - the place is sparkling clean -- definitely the gem of downtown and better than many strip hotels we've stayed at.

I just got back from a great Labor Day weekend trip to Las Vegas. It was my first time staying downtown, but it won’t be my last. Downtown is for gamblers. Granted the strip is more “see and be seen” than downtown, but there are no frilly themes, just gambling. And the Golden Nugget is the best of downtown. You can walk to the other casinos across the street without going on a hike. Very clean rooms and gaming floor (unlike Horseshoe). Not as smoky as other casino floors. My wife loved the spa, said it was just as good as Bally’s but better priced. She also liked the pool (I did neither, I was there to gamble). The sports book is centrally located and not hidden is some basement corner. The employee’s are VERY friendly and accommodating. For the price, you can’t beat the Nugget! I’ll be back!

My first time downtown, and now I see what all the fuss is about! Had a great room: very clean, well appointed, and close enough to the elevators that I wasn't wandering around the halls for hours. Next time I am in Vegas for a weekend, I will definitely stay downtown, and I will definitely stay at the Nugget.
BTW, why the question about whether the property was family-friendly? The _city_ is not supposed to be family friendly; that's why they built Disney World. Get a babysitter for the weekend, or go see the Mouse.

This was my fourth stay in Vegas, first time downtown. The Golden Nugget is a nice hotel, however I must say I much prefer the strip. Fremont street is 'ok' at best with quite a bizarre cast of occupants, I haven't been approached by so many beggers since I lived in the Middle East! The casino slots were horrid for me, too tight, the pool was good, but for a single guy like me there was no "scenery" this seems to be a hotel popular with the older, portly set. Upon check-in I was presented with a coupon book that was useless to me, here's a suggestion; if the Luxor can give free coupons why cant the Golden Nugget??? (2 for 1 garbage sucks!) and I still can't believe there were no coffee makers in the rooms. All in all Im glad I did it, but from now on, its The Strip for me!

The service was absoulutely amazing! From the desk clerks and bar matrons to the elevator staff and cleaning crew, everyone was incredibly friendly and personable. The casino was clean & well-lit & the comps were continuous (when we were well-dressed, though). We went there to get married & everyone remembered & congratulated us continually, which made it even more special, esp. since we know they see hundreds of couples like us every year. We only ate at the Buffet & Carson St. Cafe, both of which were outstanding, if a little overpriced (Carson St.), but we expected that eating in-house. the ONLY bad spot was at the cafe after midnight on friday- they seated an EXTREMELY drunk arrogant man RIGHT next to us (there were PLENTY of other seats). When he got WAY out of control & our distaste was starting to show, they offered to comp us a dessert, though the dinner would have been nice since he was LOUDLY discussing bodily funtions 2 feet away from me. The room (a suite) was gorgeous & we "had a view of the strip", meaning we could see the Stardust from our window, which I was happy about. our safe didn't work, but it was taken care of immediately, with extremely friendly staff members. the turn-down service was great too, & I thought it was so cute how they turned the 'love' channel on the bose stereo so it played when we came in. the other casinos (namely binions) had this sleazy timeshare come-on as soon as you walked in the door (EVERYWHERE on the strip too) & i appreciated (after the fact) that GN didn't have anything obnoxious like that. The shopping right outside the door was great, not to mention the Freemont Street Experience, which can only be experienced to believe. If you're looking for "babes" go to the Hard Rock. Downtown is where the real people stay & that's what we liked about it- we are fairly young and we like experiencing real life (as opposed to MTV world) & there was a nice mix of hipsters & older people, children & people on the edge. A city feel without being scary & without trying to be MTV. Freemont St. isn't near as scary as people make it out to be unless you have only lived in small towns. We found it safe & well-patrolled even at 3 am. You just gotta be slightly street-smart to avoid the cash ploys from casinos, street people, etc. no cat calls from hookers, but i think we were obviously a couple. All in all, i have NO idea why people stay at the strip when there is a safe, friendly, lovely place downtown at less than half the price. this is the ONLY place we will stay from now on! :)

UPDATE TO THE PREVIOUS FEEDBACK!!! (Aug. 2003) I got a full refund of the room difference. My faith in Golden Nuggets have been restored!!! I'll give them another chance when my family and I visit them the next time...

Last week my daughter and I stayed at the Golden Nuggets.
*The room is nice, but the beds are too small.
*The bathroom is surprising small as well. And the light bulbs in the bathroom are 25 Watts - too dark to see what we are doing in the bathroom. I actually cut my face shaving - way too dark. Too dark to take a shower too.
*My daughter is disappointed at the TV cable lineups - no Cartoon Network channel, etc.
*The people on the casino floor were horrible. My mom, a visitor from nearby Nellis AFB, played a nickle slot machine and hit a couple of Doubles and a 7. No cash came out and the floor casino people didn't care. The floor casino people didn't even bother to verify my mom's claims, not even a security videotape.
*The biggest complaint I have is the room cost. I got into the Golden Nugget website and found what I thought was a great deal. According to the website on 4/14/03, "Now through September 13, 2003 Sunday - Thursday: $49.....Friday - Saturday: $69". I reserved a room on the online. To my surprise when I picked up the final tab. $69 each night for Sunday - Thursday and $89 each night for Friday - Saturday. I e-mailed a customer service person there and asked them to clarify the confusions of the room costs and demand the refund of the difference. So far no response. I plan to write a letter of complaint to my credit card company and let them know I am a victim of the online marketing scam.
Golden Nuggets is such a fool's gold!
We come here every year for summer vacations. From now I think I will reserve a room at Bally's. They are the best!

We stayed for 3 nights for the first time downtown. It was a pleasant experience for us. Our 6 year old loved the Fremont Street Experience and had to go out every hour. There were surpisingly few drunks and in fact we've had worse experiences on the Strip than downtown. The hotel was security conscious and the parking garage was convenient. We had a view of the mountains and the sunsets were spectacular. The buffet was ok. The casino itself seemed geared to an older crowd and we had no luck. But right outside was Fremont Street and we had a blast.

My sister and I stayed at the Golden Nugget 7/7/03 until 7/10/03. I have a handicap room. I could get around real good in the room with my wheelchair. I got everything i needed for my disablity to make my stay fun. The Carson Cafeis great. The Hawaiian Frenchtoast is the best i have ever had. I would go to Las Vegas for it. The hotel room is very nice. All the people are very helpful there.We are staying there NewYears. My Niece and her Husband are coming too. We all Love the Golden Nugget Hotel.I would tell people in a wheelchair it is a good place to stay.

First time at the Nugget, and we will be back. The room was nice, especially the BED. The casino was loose for us and the slot club gave us $$$ and meal comps. Saw many cops at carson st cafe (and they know a good meal deal). The staff was happy and pleasant. Our Honeymoon was made even more unforgettable. The service IS as good as they say.

This was our annual spring visit to the GN. The new owners seem to be doing an excellent job of running the casino, and have made an effort to not chase away all its regular customers, but at the same time are attempting to attract higher rollers and a younger crowd. Our rooms were clean, we didn't lose too much this trip but saw a lot of people win jackpots, service was excellent, people and staff were friendly, these are the reasons we stay at the Golden Nugget. If you need to win to have a good time you should do something else. Just a few suggestions for the GN, the poker tables are a nice addition but they take up too much of the pool area. Isn't there room upstairs for this game? It was nice and warm in May but the beer was not cold, we went to other casinos downtown to drink and watch the basketball games. See you in the fall.

Hotel stay was very good as usual.They have added some new security features since last visit which is,you need to show your room key to get into the pool area and to get to the elevators for your room,it prevents unwanted people from wandering the hotel and prevents other hotel guests from being in the pool area,it's NOT a hassle,don't worry...it's not a problem if you have your key.
Food is good as usual too BUT,don't eat at the Saloon bar and grill by the Neonoplis attraction at the end of the street(if you go right out of the hotel on the freemont street),food is fair at best,the salad(?)was not good,a house salad contains spinach and other things that should NOT go in it,service is bad,tip is built in to the price of each persons meal(what a joke!),very dark in there.Place was empty but for 3 other tables and now we know why!Don't visit that place,go elsewhere...even McDonalds is 100% better!
Hotel slots became tighter,we stayed from Monday to Friday.Hotel itself is great so stay there.

We just got back from Vegas and spending two nights in a Golden Nugget suite. My first thought upon entering the room was that it was pretty cheesy to have just converted two single rooms into a "suite". That was the first and last negative thought I had.
In reality, the living area is much larger than the bed room and is very tastefully decorated. Included was a minifridge with four free bottles of water, a wetbar, a living room set, table and chairs, a large TV, and a Bose radio.
The bedroom included a king bed with pillowtop mattress, feather pillows, a table with chairs, TV, and another Bose radio. There were two bathrooms, one with a jacuzzi tub and separate make up room, the other with a shower stall and small TV. Both were smaller than I am used to but roomy enough since my wife and I each had our own areas. Water pressure was great as was the availability of hot water. Also included were bathrobes and a small safe.
Each night we received turn down service. This was a nice touch as it meant our room was being cleaned twice a day and little Ethel M chocolates left in a gift box on our bed.
The security at the elevators made us think about safety. Instead they politely asked to see our key card, asked what floor we would like, then came into the elevator, pressed the button, and stepped out. It was almost like having an elevator operator.
All the little touches made our stay at the Golden Nugget the most enjoyable hotel experience we have ever had. We have stayed at Imperial Palace, Harrahs, Mandalay Bay, Ceasars, Paris, Bellagio, Main Street Station, and the Venetian. So far Golden Nugget has outclassed them all. We will certainly be staying here next trip.

We stayed at the Golden Nugget 5/16/03 to 5/21/03 and found it to be a very nice hotel/casino. Room was first class and we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Food was very good. I would recommend this casino to anybody it is a class place.

Great Value for the money (59$ per night). However, the hotels at the STRIP are much better. Rooms were dark and the view wa snot nice. Pool was not overcrowded! Great Buffet.

I stayed at the Golden Nugget for 7 nights, Sunday-Saturday on the early bird web special, $39/$69 with $25 room credit through Private Arrangement. For 7 nights, 4 meals and 7 phonecalls, it only cost me $245!
I had a large non smoking king room in the south tower, 8th floor. I had a great view of a parking garage. I could hear traffic from the street below and a garbage truck would come at 2 or 3am nearly every morning!
I could hear muffled tv from next door and some people were very noisy passing through the hallway, even though I was a long walk from the elevators.
I received good maid service. I had a large tv. The air con was a bit noisy and I turned it off at night.
The bath and shower were combined and the bath wasn't big enough for a decent soak. There was a nice makeup mirror with light on the dressing table.
You had to show your room key whenever you went to your room, which was good.
There's a Starbucks next to the casino which was handy.
I enjoyed staying here but the neighbours were a bit noisy. Luxor was a lot quieter.

Loved this place, especially for the smokin' price of 21.99/night. Well decorated rooms and excellent service all around. Alot of people may cringe about the thought of staying "downtown", but it really is a decent area, to a point. Also all of the superficial yuppie types are virtually non-existent down here. I firmly believe the Golden Nugget is one of LV's best kept secrets.

we prefer to stay downtown, because i don't believe the strip has the same security and safety features that the hotels at the "four corners" (binions, gold nugget, 4 queens and the fremont)has...i am not afraid to gamble late in the evening or walk by myself and i would never even consider that on the strip...i have never been happier at a hotel in my entire life...
the service was first-class, every thing about the hotel was first class...there were a few things that could've been better, but from our past experiences downtown, this was above and beyond the VERY best...to list all of the differences between this hotel and ALL of the other hotels would take an hour - this hotel is just that much better...
you get what you pay for, so make sure if you are a gambler and you want the perks, that you join the 24 Karat club...we got comped for 3 days and had 2 great meals for our play...i thought they should be a little more generous, but then i remembered the other hotels in their chain...but this is the perfect place for the "little guy", who spends a lot of money, but would never be considered a whale to the strip standards...
i will never stay anywhere else after our experience at the nugget...it's worth the extra money...

Rooms are excellent. Employees were friendly and very helpful, especially the young lady at the check-in counter. Slots are tight, my wife had better luck at Fitzgerald's down the street. Food at the Carson Street Cafe should be better for the prices they charge. Found better food and prices at the Orleans' Courtyard Cafe and Gold Coast's Monterey Room. Fremont Street Experience is a spectacular free show, although quite short (7-10 minutes).

it was actually 04/02 that I stayed at this motel. Very nice rooms, and was very impressed to have payed Motel 6 prices for such a nice place. Didn't get the crappy little bars of soap, but some high dollar name brand. The halls were clean and polished to gleam and very classy feel to the place. View was nice and serene. However, the inhouse restaraunt... were only about 2 other tables filled, was waited on by a guy that could hardly speak english, who was very slow, and took 45 minutes to get our salad and house soup that was cold befor it arrived. So I'd like to stay there again and other then that one incidence was a great trip.

MGM Resorts, which owns the Golden Nugget, has started a disturbing trend. They close their pools without notice and offer no compensation to guests. It happened earlier this year at the Mirage and happened to me at the Golden Nugget. With temperatures in the 80s, I was pissed. They offered a bus to the MGM to use thier pool. Who wants to spend an hour on a bus during their vacation? I was offered a room "upgrade" to the fifth floor of the north tower. I checked out the room and it looked directly into the superstructure of the FS Experience. No thanks. My room in the south tower (19125) was nice and had a great view. There were beverage glasses on the floor outside the door of my room, as the previous guests must of used room service. Three days later, those glasses were still there. That indicated to me that cleanliness is no longer a priority at this hotel. The room was 400' from the elevators. The walk from the south tower to Freemont Street was another 1,000' (I stepped it off), so be prepared to hike. The buffet was nice, but not as good as I expected. Personally, I thought Main Street Station was better. If you stay at the hotel, get a line pass for the buffet. The lines are long and do not move fast. If I stay downtown again, it will not be here.

I just stayed at the Golden Nugget for the first time and was very pleased. The rooms (with in-room safes) were nicely appointed and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The casino was good although I was disappointed that there were not any $5.00 black jack tables after 6 in the evening. The buffet was excellet with lots of selections and the Carson Street Cafe was good. I did take advantage of the spa and all its amenities. The hour long massage for $70.00 was a bargain. Well worth it!
Staying downtown with all casinos within a few minutes of walking distance was a real PLUS! I would certainly stay at the GN again.

Stayed in the South Tower. The South Tower is actually two towers that are connected. Our first room with a 4 digit number seemed larger than our second room with a 5 digit number, but were of equal quality. Surprisingly few amenities in the bathroom (no mouthwash, no shoehorn, no shoeshine cloth, no deodorant soap, no sewing kit). The brochure said all rooms have desks but neither room had one. Stefanos was supposed to be open nightly, but was actually closed Tuesdays. Very convenient parking, excellent coffeeshop, useful in room safes, and a delightfully relaxed atmosphere. The Nugget seemed to have a large number of Senior Citizens when I was there. Everyone was pleasant and polite. A very nice experience overall, and a great value with MGMMirage Vacation package.

My wife and I just got back today from our most recent trip to Vegas. Our first stay downtown. We had so much fun we might never go back to the strip. The GN is a superior hotel. The staff was amazing from top to bottom, as accommodating as any hotel we've ever stayed in. Although several of the restaurants are closed for a few weeks this month, we were still able to grab a few great meals before that happened. And yes, the special french toast is incredible. The whole atmosphere up and down Fremont is fun, colorful and ecclectic. If you want to stay in a very nice hotel with all the amenities, GN is the place.
After having walked and walked and walked to get from one hotel to the next on the strip, we are spoiled by the convenience of downtown. Walk out one casino door and 75 feet later your in another casino. If the GN could improve one thing it would be the attitude of the dealers and pit supervisors--many of them just seem to be going through the motions with no personality. We love table games and ended up spending most of our time down the street in Fitzgerald's. Do yourself a favor, stay downtown. If you want to go to the strip and play tourist, take a cab and go play for the day. By the time you get back downtown, you'll feel like you're home again. One last thing, we caught Amazing Johnathons very last show and it was a scream. He just signed a contract with the Flamingo. If you haven't seen him before and you like outrageous adult humor, he puts on a fun show. I hope the GN can find another great headliner.

The room was clean and well maintained. Provided was shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower cap and soap. Had a dressing table with lighted mirror and a small round table and 2 chairs. Room was always made up when I returned even though I had put privacy sign up and left sometimes late in the day. They must check back frequently, because the room was always fresh and clean upon my return. Has an in-room safe provided also.
I only play blackjack and craps. The dealers are friendly and willing to visit and talk with the customers. The blackjack dealers I talked to alot and every single one of them is happy with where they work and aren't afraid to say so. The casino is clean, fresh smelling, and well maintained. This is the first time I have stayed downtown and I'm of the understanding that the Golden Nugget is the nicest hotel downtown and I believe it. I would definitely stay there again.
The Fremont Street light show is immediately outside the door and a different show takes place every hour after dark. Love the music and easy walk to other downtown casinos. Walked to the Plaza, Lady Luck, Fitzgeralds, Binion's Horseshoe, 4 Queens, Las Vegas Club, and Fremont. No car needed and I wish I hadn't rented one. I went to the strip once while I was there during the week -table games are higher minimums than downtown and I spent the rest of the week downtown. $2 and $3 minimum craps at most casinos downtown with up to 10x odds. I walked out of the Fremont though cause they only had 2x odds.
My next trip will be downtown at the Golden Nugget. Love this place!

great hotel, the gem of downtown and at $50. per night sunday to thursday, it cannot be beat. used the spa for the first time and well worth it. get the massage $70 for the hour and you can use the facility all day(7am to 7pm). rooms are fantastic, modern, large and clean. room on the 21st floor, no strip view available, but not a problem facing north. gambling very difficult in the nuggett, but you can walk about 500 feet to about four or five other casinos that are not as nice as the strip hotels, but you have the choice. recommend this property to all. did not have a chance to do the buffet, but i am sure the bread pudding will be waiting for us on our next visit.p.s. join the private arrangement club and the points earned can be used to get free nights.

The night we arrived, they did not have a King room available for us but were happy to move us the next morning when one was available. The first night, we were in the South tower, 22nd floor -- which has been redone. Very nice room, all granite bath, but the bath was small and unmemorable. The layout of the bath is somewhat awkward. The remaining nights we were on the 7th floor which has not yet been redone. All in all, the property is nice, very quiet and well kept. All staff were friendly and helpful. Be careful if you request a room away from the elevator -- it may be a VERY long walk.
I would definitely stay in this property again.

Good hotel. Lots and lots of brass. Rooms are fairly big, my only complaint is the 2'x2' bathrooms. Check-in was short, and the people were friendly. Golden Nugget also boasts the excellent Carson Street Cafe. Casino was nice, not the biggest, but good. The Golden Nugget is definately worth a look if you are going to stay downtown.

This was my first visit to Golden Nugget and it won't be my last. Our room, a deluxe king, featured a comfortable bed, two bedside tables with lamps, a dressing table with makeup mirror, a table and two chairs, an armoire with TV, a closet with a safe, and a marble-accented bath. I would have preferred more comfortable seating, such as an upholstered chair or loveseat, but that's a small quibble. There was no view to speak of. Most hotel personnel were very polite and helpful. We ate in both the Carson Street Cafe and the Buffet. Both were very good. The buffet was among the best we tried. The Cafe has great food at very reasonable prices. The casino was among my favorites. It's not very big but I found it more pleasant than most. The pool is adequate although poorly situated, between the two towers of the hotel. Although it is said to have misters, they weren't in operation during our stay. Overall, I was very impressed with the property and would happily stay there again. The Golden Nugget is an outstanding value.

The Golden Nugget was absolutely wonderful. I would definitely go there again. The rooms were very nice, comfortable, and always clean. The service staff was excellent and very helpful. The casino was great with favorable odds and nice staff. Downtown seems to be more relaxed and comfortable. It just seems more pleasurable than the strip. This was my first time in Vegas, and I am happy that I picked the Golden Nugget. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The Freemont Street lights are a must see, and the mall is really neat to browse. There is a lot to do downtown and everything is very easy to find. You don't get lost trying to find things, everything is at your fingertips. I would highly recommend the Golden Nugget to anyone.

*Review of Several Downtown Casinos, Golden Nugget first*
ROOM:
This is the third time we've stayed at GN. Asked nicely (but did not tip) at the front desk for a reasonably priced suite upgrade, and we got that for $50 additional per nite, North Tower suite. One bedroom suite with very nice appointments throughout, including very nice furnishings, tile, brass & fixtures, his & her robes, two bathrooms, one with jacuzzi jet bathtub, 3 TVs, including one in the bathroom, (I watched TV while I took a shower) wet bar, fridge with ice maker, couches, dining table, plenty of closet/drawer space, Bose stereo clocks in each room. CAVEAT: If you plan to sleep before midnight and are staying in the North tower, ask for an even-numbered room. Otherwise, the "Fremont Street Experience" which has a show every hour from dusk 'til 12:15 a.m. will keep you awake, no matter what floor you stay on. If the suites only cost 50 to 75 more per night, and you like big, plush, nice rooms, then it is well worth the upgrade price.
FOOD: Nugget: Had room service b'fast, and highly recommend the Nugget's french toast, topped w/whipped cream, fresh strawberries and nuts. BUFFET: Very good value at around $6 per person for b'fast. They have a nice Starbucks as well.
FOOD: Binion's Horseshoe: Ate at the snack bar--great chili and hot dogs, and very low priced for a good snack. Ate at the Binion's Steakhouse, at the top of the 'Shoe, which I highly recommend. Filet mingon was good, but my wife's prime rib was better, a 20 oz. cut. (And that's the small one! For the truly hungry, go for the "Benny's Cut" a 30-ounce slab o' beef)
CASINO GN:(Video Poker only) Played for a few hours, hit nothing. Also, the GN's comp drink policy if you are playing at the bar is very poor. You CAN'T get top-shelf booze, only the average stuff. Very Disappointing.
CASINO--Four Queens & Horseshoe: Again, not the best of luck, but much friendlier, and much less snobby bartenders, and you can get whatever they pour for comped drinks.
POOL at GN: Nicest downtown pool; the one at the 'shoe is on the roof, but not nearly as nicely landscaped (meaning no asthetic value at all.) Very good drink service at the GN's pool. Go for the large strawberry margaritas. Also, make sure you stake out one of the umbrella-covered tables and chairs rather than just a lounger--the place loses all shade around 1 p.m.
THE BOTTOM LINE: GN's rooms are far and away the best downtown. Stay there, play and eat meals other than breakfast at one of the other, friendlier casinos.

My husband and I stayed here once and we loved the comfortable bed. The room was a little on the dark side but everything else was very good. The bathroom was very well lit and the towels were very soft. The room was big and comfortable. Easy checkin and out. The buffet is very good and the people were very nice. I revieved a "freeby" on the strip and After staying someplace else I learned what quality and service means to me and Golden Nugget has it. with the exception of one other trip with the kids we have stayed only at the Nugget for the last 3 years and I shall never stray again!
They are nicer, better quality for the money and better security. The comps are great. The Buffet has the best breakfast and it is reasonably priced.
If ya like downtown...its the best bet for the money all around!

Our annual anniversary vacation. The rooms are adequate but views are non-existent. Don't really care, because we go to have fun, not stare out the windows. Freemont Street draws us back every year. FANTASTIC. Went out to the strip one day and remembered why we stay downtown. I can not believe the number of kids running wild through the casino's. Went through several strip casino's trying to find a cocktail waitress. They apparently only have one or two working during the day. When I finally found one she seemed highly stressed and took about 15 minutes to return with the drink. Only stayed at the strip about three hours and sped back to the comfortable surroundings of downtown. All the staff at the Nugget are friendly and helpful. They try to accomodate you in every way. We ran into a couple of dealers in other casino's who appeared to be having a bad day. We all have bad days occasionally, and in hearing what some of them put up with from some of the obnoxious players I am amazed they stay as calm as they do. The whole downtown experience is a blast and the clean, comfortable, friendly environment draws us back to the Nugget every year. Sure wish the slots were loosened up a bit.

I stayed at the Golden Nugget Saturday, June 29th and found the property to be very satisfactory. I had booked the room through the Golden Nugget’s web site and was happy they accepted a Saturday arrival for just one night. Our reservation was for the south tower, which is older and farther from the casino as I had read in the reviews. Upon check-in I inquired about a room in the north tower and was told it would be an additional $20.00, staying just one night I opted to stay in the south tower. We found the room to be very nice, It was an exact duplicate of the rooms at The Mirage, bedspreads, wall coverings and all.
We had a light dinner at The Carson Street Café and Sunday brunch at the buffet. Both had nice décor and good food.
The Golden Nugget is a beautiful Las Vegas Strip quality hotel located downtown.
If I were staying downtown again it would definitely be at the Golden Nugget.

We have gone to Las Vegas many times and stayed at various hotels. This casino was very well kept and clean. Our reservations we made well in advance but when we checked in they gave us 2 double beds instead of one king. Rather a disappointment. Our main problem with this visit was the hotel parking lot security. We were there for 3 days and during that time our rims were stolen off our vehicle. After that happened we realized that during our entire visit we never once saw security patrolling the structure. (We did make daily trips out to our vehicle) While staying at the other hotels we always remembered seeing security on bicycles riding around. The hotels response to us - "Sorry park at your own risk, please come back and stay with us we value your patronage" Our response - "I don't think so!!" Too many other nice places that do want and respect their guests.

Check-in was a breeze, friendly helpful desk clerk upgraded us to north tower for no extra charge, but do not expect this on a weekend. Great location, fremont experience right outside casino. Pool is the best downtown. Buffet was very good, sometimes a line at peek times, breakfast was excellent. The only place to stay downtown, we will be back.

Visited the Golden Nugget from 5-16-02 to 5-20-02. Upon arrival at midnight, "Guy" at the front desk advised that he had no "non-smoking" rooms left, but would put us in the second floor north tower in a "Jacuzzi King" until tomorrow. We accepted. The room was spotlessly clean, with a slight smoke odor (we are non smokers). The next morning, we moved to the third floor North tower and found it also was spotlessly clean and in new condition. The water pressure was good! The A/C was great!
After having reviewed the North and South towers, it seems that the North tower has slightly better appointed rooms (overstuffed chairs, toiletries, lighting, desk and round table). The South tower rooms may be just a little bit bigger, as are the bathrooms. But the North Tower is quite convienent to the casino floor, without the walk to the South tower elevators. If you are using the "Self Parking" garage, I would stay in the South tower. If you like the Valet parking, the North tower is best.
One nice touch was security at the North tower elevators. They never required to see our room key, but did monitor the access to the North tower. If fact, security got to know us very well by sight and very pleasant to talk to, and usually had a car open and ready for the next patron.
The In-Room Food Service was fast and was fantastic. Also dined at the Buffet and Carson Street Cafe, and both were up to usual top standards. The Sunday Brunch was outstanding.
Housekeeping was excellant as always.
Gambling was good on the slots. We always seem to do better downtown!
One hint: Sign up for "Private Arrangement" program. Its good for many things: late reservations, special discounts, points toward free room stays and line passes at the restaurants. Once you receive the membership card, you must book reservations via their 800 number, not on-line.
The GN is the crown jewel of the downtown area. And for us, a better choice than on any of the strip properties. We are planning our next trip here in December 2002. Check their website for specials and slot tournaments!

Stayed at the Golden Nugget when I went to Las Vegas to get married. When booking the trip, I really wanted to stay at the Venetian, since that was where are ceremony was to be held, but unfortunately, I just couldn't afford it. Arrived at the Nugget at approximately 12 noon, and had absolutely no problems checking in before the advertised 3pm check-in time. Room was sparkling clean. We requested a fridge, since we'd be there for a week, and also wanted to be able to store our cake-top after our wedding, and got one within 10 minutes. Had room service a few times while I was there, food was delicious and the service was wonderful. House keeping never bothered us when we were in the room and did a excellent job cleaning when we were out of the room. Front desk clerks were also great, as I had a lot of packages delivered to the hotel, also had to ship some gifts back home, and bell captain was extremely helpful. A majority of the people that went to Vegas for our wedding also stayed at the Nugget, they all had a good experience there. The GN is great as it's 5-star quality, without the 5-star prices. Will definitely stay at the Nugget again on my next trip out to Vegas!

This was the first time we stayed at the Golden Nugget and will definitely return. Check-in was fast at 3:00 pm, and our room was in the South Tower. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Our only complaint is that the breakfast buffet line is always very long, and we were never able to eat that meal there. Walked over to Main Street Station every morning and didn't wait at all.

Very nice stay, hotel room on 21st floor of south tower with great view of Stratosphere and many other strip properties. Room was just as nice as the pic on the goldennuget.com web site, with nice attention to small details. Never heard anyone in rooms next to mine, easy access to tower elevator without going thru casino. Small bathroom, with lots of marble, nightstand had granite top, rich looking neutral decor in south tower. The casino was nice, but not my favorite for playing table games. Very good dinner buffet on Friday featured crab legs. I just don't get the big deal about the bread pudding. It's still bread pudding. Highly recommend to anyone who has never stayed downtown. You don't know what you're missing!

I had played cards at The Nugget many times but had never stayed there until this trip and was pleased with my stay. The room was nicer than any other hotel downtown, and I've stayed in many of them. My wife enjoyed the pool and spa, which she says was very nice too. My one beef would be the walk to and from our room. It was ETERNAL. When we checked in (and out - I should have called), no one offered to carry our bags and our room was a VERY long walk. To and from the casino was forever as well. Very good food, nice dealers and decent comps made for a very nice stay overall. I highly recommend it. The only reason I wouldn't stay here is that I like to try new places. Also, make sure you do some checking around for good rates. I got quoted rates from the equivalent of $19-89 per night from various sources.

Overall, I've heard this is the nicest casino downtown. After visiting the casinos of several
others downtown, I would have to agree. The bathrooms were incredibly small and
combined with the shower and we had a view of the parking lot. I guess things could
have been worse. I'm not really a person for downtown but if you are this might be the
place for you.

First time downtown- so I chose the Nugget thinking w/ the higher prices it would be better rooms and a nicer casino. The rooms were nice- bad view, but nothing wrong w/ room- but I hated the casino! It tries to recreate a garden party look and there is just too much brass/gold coverings everywhere- it was hurting my eyes! The casino is also complicated to get around in compared to other downtown ones. The pool was nice though, nothing spectacular, but a nice pool w/ lounge chairs and lots of towels. I did most of my gambling next door at Four Queens. I'd suggest this hotel/casino if you're #1 priority is a lighter colored casino- I don't know- place just felt uncomfortable to me in the casino! Would like to see open faced cards on 21 game played on double decks, as at competitor, Horseshoe.

We have been staying at the Nugget for the last 15 years, it is a first class place and we always enjoy our stay win or lose. We visit the strip each trip but would never think of staying there. Downtown has the old Las Vegas feel, gambling for adults only and plenty of characters to entertain you. If you are losing in a casino a different casino is a short walk away and you dont have to worry about traffic, kids, and annoying people trying to give you pornographic fliers.
I am always amazed by the people who complain about the long walk to the South Tower, I'd estimate the distance from the casino is 150 yards. If this is too much (unless you are handicapped) you should skip the buffet a little more often or start exercising. It's a pleasant walk past the pool, cafe, gift shop, and slots. I have also read comments about how some people are afraid to come to the Downtown area because of the homeless people.(I have talked to some of the homeless and they are not all "bad people", just live a different life style.) There is a lot of security in the casinos and on the streets. See you in Sept.

The Golden Nugget is the "Pick of the Litter" for downtown. Nothing but First Class !!! The Buffett is the best I've found. The dealers are very friendly and helpfull. The only complaint was the slots were extremely tight, and the Black Jack Table minimums were too high in the evening ($10) for the novice player. We have stayed there many times and will continue to stay at the Nugget, as we like the distacne between casinos, and the comfort of the Golden Nugget, but they definately need to lossen up the slots a little, and reduce the minimums on the tables to maintain visitors.

The rooms were clean but nothing special. We were led to believe that this was a deluxe hotel but it is not. You either have to walk a long distance to the parkink garage or to the front doors of the casino. We were given non smoking rooms when 3 out of four people in our party are smokers. We had to move to another room the next day. No apology or comps were forthcoming. If you are going to stay downtown there are much better values such as Fitzgeralds.

Arrived at the Golden Nugget at around 1200 on Sunday (from Harrah’s,
which we also reviewed). Despite the claim on the Golden Nugget
website FAQ that Check-in is a 3PM, they were already checking people
in. Check in was fast and smooth. They room was nice, with a view of the
mountains. We went to the Champagne brunch, which was outstanding.
We ate and drank our fill.
Casino was nice, and there were $1 roulette tables. There is an
International Beer Bar with 40 beers available, a Snack Bar, and slots
from 5 cents up. They have several restaurants, one which is open 24
hours. The pool area was nice, and they have a Dollar rent-a-car on-site.
The rooms have a safe, hair dryer and nice soaps. Everywhere, the staff
was friendly and attentive.
The Fremont Street Experience is right out the casino doors and is
EXCELLENT. We had no worries about personal security there.
Bottom line, everything was very, very nice, no complaints whatsoever. I
would definitely come here again.

I love this place. I stay downtown in the spring with the guys and on the strip in the fall with the wife. It was crowded but what do you expect when the NCAA championship is playing. EVERYTHING is crowded. A good room value. I have stayed here 6 straight years, 3 years at the Plaza, (a real dump now), 1 year at Fitzgeralds, (OK), 1 year at Lady Luck, (cheap but not real clean), 1 year at Vegas Club, (OK but again not real clean), and 1 year at Binion's. Nugget is THE place to stay downtown.

Having heard all the hype about the Golden Nugget and how great it was,I have to say I was really dissapointed.This five star hotel is no nicer than some of the three star hotels on the strip.The rooms were nothing special and even though we had a larger room in the south tower it wasn't really much bigger than any other room and the bathroom was tiny.The front door did nothing to dampen sounds and I could hear other doors slamming all night,people walking down the hall and the cleaning staff in the morning as clear as if they were in the room with me.I have to say the staff were very polite and friendly though.That is except for the casino host I talked to when I tried to get a late check-out on Sunday.Even though I had played Blackjack for 4-5 hours a night every night of my stay,and losing about $1000, when I asked for a later check-out time all they could say was 2:00,a whole extra two hours!When I questioned this I was told I could have the room until 7:00 but it would be another $50 plus tax!Needless to say,I declined.This place is not worth paying extra for,and I will never stay there again.They dont seem to care about my gambling dollar as much as some of the other casino's do so they shall see no more of my money.

The Golden Nugget is by far the ONLY hotel to stay downtown-great rooms cleaned to a tee every day of our week stay. Casino a little too crowded but that is because of the race weekend. They need more of a variety of nickel machines but by staying downtown it is easy to go to any casino around. Would never stay anyplace but the downtown. Wish I was back there.

Great place. We ate at the buffet. It is the very best. Main Street's buffet doesn't even come close. Paris' buffet was good with a lot of choices but the Nugget beats them all! We also had room service one morning. It was served very promptly and it was very good. I had french toast with nuts, bananas and strawberries on top - wow!
It is a very beautiful first class hotel.

I have stayed at the GN a couple of times before. It is very clean and polished. I have stayed in rooms in the south tower. One time I had a nice southern view towards the strip. The last time I stayed I had a view of the Plaza Hotel, but the room was far from the elevators and the associated hallway noise. The room was very comfortable, although the bathroom was a bit tight. Some folks do not like to stay in the south tower because it takes longer to walk to the casino, but the restaurant and pool are closer. Each time I played a session of blackjack I asked to be rated. My meals were comped, and I have received an offer in the mail for discounted room rates for the summer season.

We had a great time at the Golden Nugget, as always! This was our third visit and each time I am amazed how well maintained this place is. The management has an eye for details. We had good food at Carsons, the California Pizza Kitchen, really good food at The Buffet (my favorite!) and we had a very nice dinner at Lilly Langtrees. This place is classy from front to back. One of my favorite parts is how easy it is to get in and out of if you are driving. The Golden Nugget is one of the few places that doesn't make you walk all the way through the casino to get from the elevators to the doors. No wonder I do most of my gambling here. Really great place! I hope you love it like we do!

We have stayed in Vegas for the past 23 years on the strip, this time I wanted something different and decided to stay at the Golden Nugget. What a good choice on our part. From the Velet to the Bell Staff to the room attendents these people killed us with kindness. The food was exellent and if you want to spoil yourself, try there room service. We took in the Amazing Jonathan show and I will tell you it was the most funny and entertaining show I have seen in a very long time. My Wife, Son and Daughter in Law are still talking about it. The facility is very clean and the rooms outstanding. My wife was so impressed with the makeup mirror and the wall mounted hair dryer, that I have just bought the same units from the manafacture and now have them in my home. I asked them for easy access to the casino due to some injuries I had, and they took care of my needs without question. As far as I am concerned, it is my hotel of choice from now on, simply awsume.

Small rooms in the South Tower were a long walk to the Casino. Really slow service in the coffee shop (can't remember the name). Bartendars were very slow when casino was busy. Didn't win anything. Enjoyed the casino at Mains St. Station. Will probably stay there next time.

The Nuggget is the best hotel downtown and qualifies as "strip quality,"
but the service and quality has slipped since Steve Wynn left. The
personnel have been there for years and do a good job.
Biggest disappointment is that they have cut the comps in half for slot
play. Also, they have cut staff on the casino floor so that hopper fills now
take 20 minutes on average vs. about five previously.

I stayed in the Golden Nugget but ate and gambled across the street at Binion's. For someone in a wheelchair, the Nugget is difficult with heavy carpet and ramps. The distance from the South Tower to the casino is a long way as is the distance to the valet parking. Hint: If you are in the South Tower, park across the street in the free parking structure and save the distance. The rate was a fair value, $45.00 a night, and the room was clean and well serviced. The water pressure could use a boost. I did have one meal at the Carson St. Cafe -- breakfast which was very good. Not a real AAA 4-diamond property unless AAA has lowered its standards.

This was my 2nd trip to Las Vegas and both times I stayed in the Nugget. I was there this time for six nights and since I had a car was able to see much more of the city.
As for the Golden Nugget, I believe that it is an incredible value for the money. Originally I booked for 5 nights through MLT Vacations for $226, tax included. That was not per person, so split with my companion it was only $113 each. Oh yeah, there was a $50 food and beverage credit included in that too.
The room was very clean and plenty large. The bed and chairs were in good shape and comfortable. The TV had a small glitch but the maint. guy was there very fast and fixed it in about a minute. The casino is pretty good. It does not give you a cramped in feeling that some do. Dealers were VERY helpfull and friendly, as were most people I talked with around the tables. Had a good time at the shows in the evening on Fremont. The Nugget is definitely the nicest of the downtown hotels...BUT the new Main Street Station is charming. Unlike just about everything else in Las Vegas it looks and feels authentic with its 1890's workwork, high ceiling casino and those old restored boxcars.
Anyways, back to the Nugget. Their restaurant I have eaten at is their buffet. Again, it is an incredible value for the money. Let me conclude by saying that if you want to stay downtown and/or value for the money means anything to you then DEFINETLY stay at the Golden Nugget!!!!!!!!

This place cannot be beaten for the price. Join there slot club and rates can be had for $49/$65. Many specials around $59 each night for 2 nights with $50 food credit. Rooms are very nice, and very easy to get in and out of.
Food is great in all the restaurants. Many of the late night specials have disappeared.
The Golden Nugget is the my choice unless I have specials offers elsewhere.

I have been visiting Las Vegas twice a year for the past six years and always stay at the Nugget. I think the Nugget is one of the best dollar values in Vegas. The Private Arrangement program is a great deal. The hotel and casino staff have always provided world class service. The rooms are good size and comfortable. The buffet dining room is beautifully decorated and the breakfast buffet is a great. I always visit the health spa 2 or 3 times during my stays. Its a great place to unwind and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Fremont St. is a great place to wander around, especially at night. Hope to see ya there!

We did not stay at the Nugget this trip but have many times over the years. It is absolutely the best place to stay. We have always found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. The only drawback is if you are in the South Tower it is a very long walk to your room. The food at Carson Street Cafe and the Buffet are excellent and the service is good. Try Stefano's for a little upscale dining. The Italian food and singing waiters are a delight. The casino is clean and beautiful. We found the slots to be a little tight but whose aren't? Being low rollers we did not play the table games there but walked across the street to the Horseshoe or down the street to the Golden Gate. We usually visit Las Vegas twice a year and will always stay at the Nugget as long as it stays the way it is now.

We went to The Golden Nugget for our Homeymoon...we searched all hotels and this hotel was definetly in our price range. We wrn't to sure about it at first before we got there of course. Then the moment we drove up i was shocked at how beautiful it is. We walked inside and it was breath taking. I loved staying there. We stayed at hotel most of our stay just being around that athmposhere and the restaurants we ate at oohhh yum!!!... my husband ordered trout at carsons the first night we were there, he practically ate the plate it was so good, i had fried chicken i was expecting maybe 2 peices and a side dish or 2. i got 4 peices of big chicken breast and legs, lots of side dishes and yummy rasberry ice tea:) we also ate at california kitchen it was a little snobby but the food was wonderful i had a thai pasta to die for. We walked around a lot and loved the area, the view, fairmount experience, everything!!!!...the only thing i didn't like was some vallet parkers they wern't very nice but other than that STAY THERE EAT THERE IT's CHEAP IT'S GOOD I WANNA GO BACK!!!!

Great hotel! Clean, elegant and great service. I loved the pool area. At first I was concerned I wouldn't like staying downtown, but I did. Even if you want to get to the Strip, the city bus will pick you up from Fremont Street and drop you off anywhere you want on the Strip for just $2. Downtown is so user friendly and the gaming action is much better in all the casinos downtown. I hope to stay here again soon.

stayed in March, recommend later in the spring for warmer weather, but the stay at Golden Nugget was excellent! Nice room, friendly hotel and casino staff, and close proximity to the other places on Freemont. Ate at Lilly Langtree's......great food, but it was noisy since there was a rowdy birthday group (30 people) that had too mcuh to drink. Still an excellent meal and service. We are going back again this month for the second time, having been very pleased the first visit.

For a family of hicks from the sticks we were made to feel like royalty. As we drove up we were greated by valet attendents and bell hops who opened our doors and helped us out with all of our things. A small army decended upon us to help us check in, get our luggage loaded, and take our car away. The baggage was waiting for us when we got to our room. The room was gorgeous, clean, and elegant. The baggage waiter brought our luggage in and asked if he could do anything else for us. It was a nice view out of our window and a 5 minute walk to the Fremont Street Experience where we wandered for hours. Check-out was a snap (on the tv screen) (the baggage waiter did the whole thing for us). Our car was waiting for us downstairs and our luggage half loaded when we arrived. The bell hop even called for our car rental return to get the exact directions to where we needed to go. We couldn't have been happier. This is far and away the nicest, friendliest, most professional hotel we've ever experienced. They treated us like we were regular visitors and valued.

My wife and I loved our 5 day stay at the Nugget. We stayed on the Winter Getaway Package ($79 weekend/$59 weeknight, $50 food credit). Check in was a breeze and took seconds late on a Thursday night (around 11:30 pm). We were given 2 double beds (requested a King), but we were able to move to a king room the next day on the same floor. No hassle. We had a lovely view of the mountains from the 16th floor. The rooms in the South Tower are nicely decorated and plenty big with a nice makeup table and lighted mirror for the wife. It is a short walk from the Tower to the casino and Fremont Street but it only takes a minute or two. It is also very convenient to the self-parking garage. The hotel is spotless and dowtown is even cleaner than I remembered. The staff were friendly and the service was top-notch. The handpays on the slots were quite fast, and the cocktail service was good. We ate at the Carson Street Cafe (typical cafe fair, pretty good), and the Champagne Brunch at the Buffet (quite good).
We rented a car and visited the strip often. Getting to and from downtown and the airport was quick and easy (about 10 minutes).
All in all, an excellent experience. Good service, nice rooms, pleasant and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.

Best hotel downtown. Casino NOT the best. Have stayed when I can get a reasonable rate $59 and a $50 room service credit, otherwise better value up and down the street. Wish their casino was better, slots are tight, table games average and crap odds not as good as binions across the street. And finally the walk to and from the South tower. The exercise is good for you but anytime you want to go somewhere you need to start 5 minutes early. If you want to pay the extra $30 per night, Golden Nugget is for you. If you want to use the difference to gamble try the Plaze, Main Street Station, Binions or even 4-Queens. I love the GN but you pay for it.

We have stayed at the Golden Nugget over 100 times in the past 15 years. We have never had a bad stay. Once in a while a meal is not perfect, or service is spotty, but an appropriate comment usually is rewarded by a credit on your bill. Rooms are clean and comfortable with all the amenities. We love the Fremont Street Experience and the activity downtown. The ease of moving between casinos is unmatched elsewhere. the safety factor is exceptional...my wife feels very safe downtown going between the GN and Binion's...and I do not worry about her.
All in all a great place to stay.
