Date Visited: 12/03 - Undecided Stay'd here 2wks b4 Christmas, midweek. Had Corporate room comps off Harrah's website. Check'd in using the Vip Check-in just off the Arrival Entrance b4 one gets to the front desk (Total Rewards Diamond Club Member, here). They gave me a VERY nice suite, Concierge Tower, 21st floor (strip view partially blocked by the older front tower), yet could still see the Mirage Volcano at night! Requested smoking room, yet when I got there, NO ashtrays--called down...said they would bring some up. Unpacked, waited a bit for the ashtrays, decided to go on down and try my luck. (ashtrays were there when I got back to my room later) Casino was tight, Tight, TIGHT. Or maybe my luck was just off. Or a little of both, LOL. Did okay on the WoFortune quarters by the main strip entrance. Also, had fun at roulette. The rest of the slots just seemed to eat my coins with nary a nice run once. Never saw a host; asked for one on my last night there to make sure all was covered. The very friendly and courteous desk clerk, just zero'd my charges (food, etc., that I had put on the room) by taking them off my comp card. Not sure I like this computerized rewards system. Prefer the discretionary perks that come from a host's "say-so" -- that will bring my business back every time. I always leave a fiver on the pillow when I leave the room for the day. Came back to a very well made up room. And later that 2nd night, came back to find I had had turn down service, w/chocolates by the bed, woo, hoo! Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if I have free offers. Otherwise, I will save my comp card points for other Harrah's properties around the country. <rmorg77975 -at- aol.com> - Oklahoma City OK USA - Added 01/03/04 - [64.12.96.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 12/03 - Bad Visit Well let's see....The help here was rude to both my mother and I.... My plans changed after I made reservations. When I called to cancel I was told that it would take 12 - 14 business days to credit my card. When I asked why they could charge my card the same day but could not credit it for 2 weeks I was somewhat rudely told that cancellations are done in a group. This is unacceptable. I have had to cancel reservations at other hotels and never had to wait for 2 weeks to receive my refund. <jcyoung -at- email.com> - Downey CA USA - Added 11/06/03 - [64.58.164***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 - Undecided STAYED AT HARRAHS END OF OCTOBER THROUGH BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER. ALSO VISIT ATLANTIC CITY HARRAHS AND THE SITUATION IS JUST AS BAD THERE. HAD COUPONS FOR FREE ROOMS (VERY NICE) AND PAID FOR 3 MORE. ALWAYS IN THE PAST , PLAYED ENOUGHT TO GET THE 3 NIGHTS COMPED...NOT THIS TIME. PLAYED THE SAME AMOUNT ALL WEEK AND HAD NO FREE ROOMS AND 38$ COMP ON THE LAST DAY. NOTHING ELSE. MY SISTER PLAYED ABOUT THE SAME AS ME AND GOT $22 COMP FOR THE WEEK. SO DISAPPOINTED AFTER RAVING TO EVERYONE ABOUT HARRAHS. WILL NOT LIKELY GO BACK AS THIS LAST TRIP RENTED A CAR AND SCOUTED OUT THE OFF STRIP CASINOS. VERY NICE CASINOS, AVERAGE COMPS NICE RESTAURANTS BUT ROOM PRICES MUCH LESS THAN THE STRIP. IF I RECEIVE COUPONS FOR FREE ROOMS , MAY USE BUT NOT MAKING ANY SPECIAL EFFORT TO GO TO HARRAHS OR PROMOTE IT ANY MORE. TOO BAD. IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED. IF YOU WANT TO GET NOTHING BACK FOR YOUR PLAY, THEN GO TO HARRAHS. It is relatively cheap, has clean (albeit plain) rooms, and has a location that can't be beat. Our breakfast at the buffet was sub-par, but our dinner at the steakhouse was fantastic (worth the price.) As far as the casino goes, it's hard to find a cheap hand of single/double deck BJ, but the dealers are very friendly, and the beverage service is second to none. <liquoredupmallsanta -at- email.com> - Westfield NJ USA - Added 09/21/03 - [141.150.116.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Bad Visit This was our at least 20th stay at Harrahs. It was the worst. My father has sworn by this casino for years. He is probably not happy up in the great casino world. This was my youngest daughter's (21) first trip. We played on Friday for over 6 hours without seeing a cocktail waitress. Except standing in the room where they get the drinks talking and laughing with what appeared to be the manager for over 20 minutes. NICE. The room was dirty and the TV was in black and white because the color was going. Not that we spent much time in the room, but when you are there it would be nice to have the comforts you pay for. We did get one night comped. Saturday same thing no drinks. Went to Treasure Island and could not even finish a drink without be asked for another. The food service in the Garden Cafe was awful. I am a platinum card member and received the worst service ever. Was not crowded when we ate and still waited at the table to give our order for over 35 minutes. When I filled out the survey on the black and white tv - I received a call from the Hotel and was asked what the problem was. Their response we have had alot of complaints about the beverage service - WELL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT - DUHHH. The maid service was minimal at best - they were vacumming the halls at about 8:00 am and cleaning the rooms across the hall. We decided to go downstairs so they could do our room. We came back around 12:30 and it was not done. We were taking a break and they call at 2:00 to ask to get in the room - you saw us leave do it then. Have booked a trip for February and we are trying the other end of the strip - not going to say where until we get back. Unless Harrah's service improves - will not stay or play there again - SORRY DAD <CINDERS75 -at- AOL.COM> - Cudahy WI USA - Added 10/09/03 - [216.56.80***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit I've stayed yearly at Harrah's for the past 10 yrs. I have had no complaints until the last two years. The Rewards program is not what it use to be. Not as good now. We use to get a couple of free nights and comps which kept me coming back to the hotel each year. The hotel is clean, curteous staff and THE BEST LOCATION on the strip. But.... the last two years the price of the rooms has gone up, no more free nights and the machines have been tight. It seems since 9-11 hotels are trying to reap back their money they lost in one year. Hope things change, because I love going to Vegas for the weather, shows and the gambling. <gayle.maki -at- sympatico.ca> - Sault Ste. Was I delighted? Returned home with $467 more than I left PA with after great successes at the Craps tables. All craps tables were run by friendly and professional staffing. Had a great time at the Carnival Bar. Location is absolutely great. Buffet was very good, especially at breakfast. Showers in the room were high powered, which is nice. Casino is very easy to get around in. I will return, without a doubt. My one concern was that the Rewards system seems very overrated. I thought my four days of constant craps and blackjack playing would have rated better comps for me. Still, totally an enjoyable week. We arrived about noon on Wednesday 27 Aug 03, and check-in was quick and the room ready. As usual, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. My wife especially liked the pillow topped mattress and fluffy pillows. We played the slots and had good luck for a change. Hit some good jackpots and found the slot attendants prompt, very cordial and helpful. In fact they cheered us on, wishing us good luck and more wins. They really made our night. Harrah's has always had the friendliest employees on the strip, and they did not let us down this time. We saw the Clint Holmes show and were very impressed. He is one hard working man. His band was excellent - we recommend the show highly. The Buffet was the usual fair, not much to write home about, but decent. The Garden Cafe offers a lot of food for the money - very good. We had a special offer for a two night comp stay and requested a third night, which since it was a Friday, cost us $125. We ended up getting that night comped too. Can't beat that. The cashiers in the change booth were also very friendly and encouraging. Even when you are losing, which we did in the beginning, they kept your spirits up. All in all, we will choose Harrah's over any other strip hotel. They are a class act. Their employees make the stay worthwhile. <ladykcg -at- usa.com> - Pearl MS USA - Added 09/02/03 - [216.78.3***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Bad Visit Okay, so I'm a Stardust usual (The Stardust has ALWAYS been good to me), but my sister wanted to stay at Harrah's, so we did. Boy, we're we dissapointed!! Let's start with the check- in service. She had called ahead and booked 3 rooms (it was my neice's birthday -- she turned 21). Nothing was said about any kind of deposit when the booking was made, but when we checked in, there was a $200.00 deposit needed on all three rooms (which brought the total to well over $800.00 just to sleep! Who needs a damn mini-bar, anyway? Perhaps they saw all the young adults lurking over our shoulders and decided, "hmmmmmm...this can't be good". Whatever the case, it was a true dissapointment, as this $800.00 took a huge bite out of the needed spending money (ouch!) The rooms were typical Vegas, but the maids SUCKED! Hey! I'm a 45 year old woman who doesn't bitch much unless I'm REALLY pissed off, but come on, when you clean the room, could you please put clean towels in it? The shower in the room wouldn't turn off completely, and the shower-head itself was "low-flow" to the max! When I went to iron my clothes for the night, I filled the iron with enough water for steam, only to have that water pour out over my clothes when I went to iron "It was not a happy day in Porter Ville", and all I can say is, "Thank God for blow dryers!" Now for the positive ... The cocktail waitresses are wonderful! When you need a drink, they're right there, even wiping your tears, they're so cool. The slots were extremely good to me in the wee hours of the morning (3 to 6), and my sister and I were doing pretty good at black-jack (find Ron, he's totally cool and extremely funny!). Oh! The pool there SUCKS!! The next time I go to Vegas, I'm staying at the Flamingo or Ceasars because they have pools that totally ROCK!! Harrah's pool is just your typical pool -- a square pool -- nothing else. Flamingo has a garden, waterfalls to swim in, water slides, etc., etc., etc. If you don't know Vegas, do yourself a favor and book a room at Ceasars, Bellagio, or even Stardust (Ilove Stardust) but forget about all the others (don't stay at Aladdin, I stayed there once last year, and that place was one of the worst experiences I have ever had to deal with!!). Good luck to you all, and may you have a wonderful experience (don't expect it, but appreciate it if it happens!) Win Lot's!! The downside of our visit was that from our room in the Mardi Gras Tower, we were able to hear everything going on in the hall. This did not sit well for someone who likes to sleep late as I do. Either the walls are paper thin, or the loudest people in the world were staying around us. I will give them one more chance, but I won't stay in the Mardi Gras Tower again. Outside of this, Harrah's does seem to care--there was a long line at check-in, but they had waiters offering free champagne to anyone in the line. If you are a Gambling Club member, they will give you a free room upgrade at check-in. <rckndrll -at- hotmail.com> - Pittsburgh PA USA - Added 07/20/03 - [12.226.177.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/03 - Undecided Our check in was not smooth. The woman made a remark to the effect that the voucher from our travel agent did not tell her what we paid for the room, so we should not expect a room with a view. She put us in a beautiful room with a view of the airconditioning units and other electrical transformers. We shut the curtains and tried to accept it. But, after 7 nights of wonderful views at two other hotels, I could not bare the darkness of the closed curtains. A sweet angel named Tiffany who worked the front desk switched us to a pool side view room for our second and third nights at Harrah's. The first woman seemed just aweful. I try to imagine that the room she gave us was all she had available at 11:00 a.m., but her comment about our voucher made our placement seem intentional. (The same vouchers got us awesome rooms and even a free upgrade at the two other hotels.) The slots were not hitting for me. I pumped money in and got nothing. It was easy to STOP playing when so very few wins came my way. My husband played Harrah's a lot. He had some wins at first, but took a beating in the end. The shock was the poor rewards on the Players Card. We got very few food dollars, but were encouraged to play at other Harrah establishments to get more points. On the plus side, the rooms were very beautifully decorated. The poolside room had a balcony, which I enjoyed and went out to many times. The gift shops were the best. I bought a lot of things and got a 10% discount because of the players card. I loved the Carnivale Court. Just walking through there many times a day was fun. The casino itself was super beautiful. I took guests from another hotel (friends from home) to Harrah's casino, and was proud to show them the casino floor. And perhaps the best part of the Harrah's experience was the free shuttle to the Rio. I loved the Rio! Hit some wins while the parade was going on overhead. The coctail waitresses and waiters where on their toes and brought us drinks. Went to the Rio twice in one day. The prices in the Rio gift shops were better, and I did enjoy the shopping scene. The staff at the Rio said things to us to encourage us to stay there in the future. We will. <ktheimer2000 -at- yahoo.com> - Geneva NY USA - Added 07/26/03 - [132.236.102.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/03 Always a good value. Check in is ALWAYS a breeze, there is a PLETHORA of slots galore, and there's a vibrant environment all around the casino. The staff is VERY personable, slot attendants are on the ball, and most of the dealers are friendly (Party Pit baby!!). I also like the free shuttle to the RIO as well. The slots are SOMEWHAT loose, I hit a nice jackpot right when I got there only to slowly lose it as the days go by.... The rooms COULD be better though. I had asked for a room with a view. I got a view all right.....of the VENTILATION SYSTEM..arrghhh..You know what they say, you get what you pay for.(room was comped) No biggie though, I mean, for a young'n like me, I'm hardly in my room anyways. Housekeeping always does their job; I don't have one bad thing to say about them..... The location is ideal on the strip, with Caesars, Mirage, IP, and Venetian a nice stroll away. Harrah's is an excellent casino to play at compared to the other tightwad-megaresort-super-duper-high class-casinos which shall remain nameless. I normally hit SOMETHING on the slots. The room we had wasin the tower closest to the street ( Mardi Gras???). Anyway, the room was over-rated, overlooked the boiler system, had paper thin walls and nothing extraordinary. I played six hours worth of craps, betting as much as ten bucks on the come out, and between ten and fifty on subsequent rolls. Luck was average, but the pit crew was a little presumptuous on some of my bets, and occassionally pushy. The slots were awful. In four days the largest payoff my wife recorded was a hundred bucks. You can't get coffee or anything light to eat in the early morning hours, the music nonsense outside the sports book drove me nuts, and the food in the sports book and buffet was marginal and over-priced. We spent one day downtown and determined our next visit will be at the GN. We had not been to Vegas in five years and the strip has become more of a joke than ever. I thought it was a very nice casino and the rooms were typical vegas fare-decent sized bathroom and a nice clean bed with a small sitting area by the window. I didn't win in the casino but I liked gambling here more than most other casinos (the exception is Casino Royale-always do good there) they have $2 craps tables with 100X odds and also $1 Michelob's all the time. Harrah's had a decent sports book with very good wings. Their garden cafe also had pretty good food. Valet service was never longer than 2-3 minutes. Location is one of the best features of the hotel. You can go anywhere from the Venetian to Bellagio in just a few minutes walk. You can usually find decent rates here most of the time and I think it is one of the better deals on the strip if you can get a good rate. The blackjack dealers and bartenders I came across were all very pleasant and seemed like they wanted you to have a good time-unlike some of the neighboring giants where the dealers never say anything to you until you are broke and are leaving their table. We stayed in the Carnaval Rooms which are the newer rooms and it showed. The decor, from the carpeting to the wallpaper to the bathroom was exceptional. In my opinion, they were better decorated than the hallways and rooms at MGM Grand which is where I stayed last year. We asked for a smoking room and received it with no problem. However, upon entering the room, there was the smell of stale smoke. I understand that it was a smoking room but I figured they could have at least used some kind of deodorizer to eliminate the smell for new guests. I use one for my car and it gets rid of the smell very easily. Also, our room was a little on the small side but we still had enough room to maneuver around. The bathroom was a good size and very clean as were the closets. The furniture looked brand new and the carpeting looked and felt fresh. We heard some sounds coming from the pipes in the middle of the night but not loud enough to wake anybody up, I don't think. We stayed on the 17th floor (odd-numbered room) and had a partial strip view where we saw half of the Mirage and a bit of Treasure Island. We also had a good, full view of the volcano erupting accross the street which was nice to see at night while relaxing next to the window and trying to figure out how much money I lost. Check-in was a breeze as there was no line which was surprising since we arrived around 6PM on the day before Valentine's Day. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and helpful and explained all of our amenities in detail. Also, the people behind the Total Rewards counter who signed us up for Total Rewards were friendly and energetic and full of smiles. We also felt safe during our stay because everytime we went up to our room, there was a person who would ask to show our room keys before letting us in to the elevator area. I can see this being a pain in the ass but we didn't mind. Slot payoffs were OK and roulette was friendly to me the first night but brutal the night after. Dealers were nice and accomodating, however. One more note, the buffet at Harrahs had average food for a hefty price of about $32 for two people for lunch. Also, the service sucks!!! I was surprised that there were no discounts for hotel guests and/or Total Rewards members since that would have really helped justify the service and the mediocre food. You are better off walking next door to Venetian for a better buffet experience for the same price. But other than the buffet, we had an excellent stay for a good price. It being Valentine's weekend, we payed an average of $109/night but if you get a deal at Harrahs for around $49-$69/night, I wouldn't hesitate to go for it. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and am very happy that we chose Harrah's instead of Luxor which would have costed us $60 more. I highly recommend Harrahs. <malbari -at- rcnchicago.com> - Chicago IL USA - Added 02/17/03 - [24.148.8.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/03 - Undecided great location but corporate greed is starting to squeeze the life out of the property. drinks were small. rooms were small with poor views. tv in rooms very dinky. the staff was a lot less friendly this time the past few visits- heard a lot of employees commenting about harrah's "going down the enron road" with a lot of their execs cashing in tons of stock options recently. for the first time i felt tense while visiting there. their location center-strip is great. <sillywabbit33 -at- hotmail.com> - Silicon Valley CA USA - Added 02/27/03 - [64.3.142***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/03 - Undecided Stayed at Harrah's in February 2003; They had problems with check-in (they couldn't find our reservations)-once that was settled we went to our room. Room was not too bad; fairly clean and well kept. I didn't like the casino; the ceilings at this casino are extremely low, which gives you a challenge in finding where you're going. Also the incredible amount of cigarrete smoke looms in the air since it has no opportunity to escape to a higher elevation. Be prepared to hack! Casino service was good though; Restaurants are EXPENSIVE compared to others. My suggestion is to find another place to eat. I had read the comments about the Mardi Gras Tower, and had decided to ask for the Carnival Tower, however, the couple with us wanted a little view of the strip and the only view available was in the MG Tower. BIG MISTAKE. We stayed on the 12th. floor where one half of the floor was under construction, therefore, we had to go up three floors everytime we wanted ice. Apparently the portion we stayed in had not been remodeled, because the rooms were less than desirable. The bathroom sink stayed plugged, one would break a nail everytime they flushed the toilet. The one and only positive thing about the rooms is that they were very clean and the housekeeping staff was very thorough and friendly. The Spa was very nice, although one should have been able to use the exercising machines without paying a $15 daily fee. Valet Parking was very good. The Garden restaurant food was adequate, and I do believe the slots paid off better than the 7 other hotels we visited in the immediate vicinity. I am planning another trip to Las Vegas in November, and I do not plan on staying at Harrahs, but I will play the slots there. I do not suggest staying in the Mardi Gras Tower, but ONLY if it has been remodeled, then you may want to stay there--- (Maybe). I think this site is valuable, because after reading several negative comments about the Aladdin Hotel I cancelled our reservation, (lost $10, but after visiting the Aladdin, it was worth it) Getting in and out with a car is quite inconvenient, and as far as I am concerned, the location is not bad, but it definitely isn't the PRIME LOCALE. Two final comments, every single night a band played outside until 2:00 - 2:30 AM outside. We were informed by the front desk at check in, but decided it would not disturb us, and it didn't, although that may be a consideration for others. The pool area definitely needs to be updated. (no comparison to the pool area at the Flamingo or the Mirage, which is BEAUTIFUL) <lans98 -at- yahoo.com> - Lansing MI USA - Added 08/07/02 - [67.217.185.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/02 - Good Visit Been to Harrah's many times, most times as a comped Platinum player. Here's the bottom line, I feel: Hotel room is basic, Carnival tower is better than Mardi Gras. Food is basic, but edible. Staff are friendly and helpful. Craps tables are fun, friendly and mostly winning. Had a couple of very good slot winners here too over the years. Mostly, it's a great place to stay on the center strip at a low price for basic accomodations. Overall I felt like it was a good choice because of location, food, etc. My room on the 11th floor didn't have much of a view (ac units on the roof) but I could see part of the volcano at the Mirage which was pretty at night. I had a nice king size bed and table with 2 chairs. However, like the website says, rooms are soundproof...BULL! I was able to hear everything going around me at all times. Bathrooms are located in the front of the room so while walking by in the hallway you can hear the shower running, toilets flushing and yes, people throwing up, etc. Other than those that I didn't like, I was happy with Harrah's. Location is ideal to reach all other hotels/casinos on the strip. I ate at the Fresh Market Buffet for lunch and found this to be the best buffet out there. I wish I had eaten there more. Well worth the cost due to variety and quality of taste to the food. Check in went quickly as well as check out. Check in time is kinda late but I was lucky. The good stuff first. The hotel and our room were spotless. Service was fast and friendly in the restaurants and casino. The view from our room was poor but not a big deal with us - not everyone can have a great view and we were just glad to get a room before check-in time. Our biggest problem was that the walls and/or doors weren't very sound proof at least in our room in the Mardi Gras tower. You could hear every conversation going on in the next room and every morning at 9:00 am you could hear housekeeping doing "room checks" halfway down the hall. Casino was very nice but only paid 6 to 5 on their single deck blackjack which caused us to play elsewhere. We also got a little tired of the Fairfield time share sales people bothering us each time we came and went from the property. The "futures" bets were pretty poor at the sportsbook. Example - Cleveland Browns at 7:1 to win the Super Bowl. IP next door had them at 30:1. I think I've listed more bad than good but I would stay there again because of the location, value and cleanliness of the property. I will try the other tower next time to avoid the noise issues. <barlong -at- aol.com> - Englewood CO USA - Added 07/19/02 - [205.188.208.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/02 - Good Visit It took us about 10 seconds to check in to this lovely hotel. We complained, and were exhausted throughout our 5-day stay. The hotel comped us $30 the first day -- hardly adequate, but they refused to do more even when we had a different employee/staff waking us up every morning after only 4-6 hours of sleep. We WILL NOT be back. The room was an average hotel room, the iron had a build-up of crud that transferred to some of our clothes before we realized it, the bathroom had no exhaust fan, and we could hear everyone in the rooms around us. Slots are tight and gaming tables are limited, hard to get into a $5 game of blackjack or roulette, too few tables and very crowded. Rewards club is not worth squat unless you intend to spend a week's pay in six hours -- THEN they make it worth a little bit, a few comps here and there. The only redeeming quality at this property were the shows (Mac King, The Improv) and the Range steakhouse, the best steak we've had in Vegas. Worth every penny. Also, the Carnaval Court, kinda like a courtyard party central, was a lot of fun. As covered at cheapovegas.com, check-in was a disaster. Had we walked in 5 minutes later we would have waited for at least an hour and a half. As it was we only waited 20 minutes. Check-in procedure, if you are desk clerk: take guest name, go to back room for 5 minutes, return, take credit card info, go to back room, etc. One of the couples checking in was told their room was not ready yet (! At 11PM!?). A new desk lady showed up and took us. She was very nice and efficient. Turns out they didn’t have any rooms for the entire 4 nights we were booked…they could put us in a room for tonight and move us. “This property guarantees reservations but not rooms” she said apologetically (we booked with a booking engine, not sure if that contributed to the problem). We asked to talk to the manager. The desk lady told the manager that we wanted to speak with her about the room situation, and the manager gave us a room for the 4 nights without talking to us. We were in the Carnival tower, 23rd floor. Very nice view, we could see the Volcano at the Mirage from our window. Room was average Holiday Inn style. Hair dryer, iron and board in the room. Only one luggage rack and there was stuff on all the tables, making it hard to place a second suitcase. Large bathroom vanity. While laying on the bed about to fall asleep, someone (a Harrah’s floor manager, I later found out) opened our door. The safety bar caught the door. I was too tired to care. I woke at 0700 and went down to inquire about the ‘attempted break-in’. The manager came over and was very apologetic and said that she had just called our room, rousing my sleeping spouse, because Harrah’s was unaware they had check anyone into that room. She told me a floor manager had tried to come in the previous night because they didn’t know we were there. “This has never happened before.” Great. Except, in the intervening minutes of moving our room, she canceled out our room keys, which I didn’t discover until I returned to the room. Sigh. And I didn’t even think to ask for a comp. DOH! Other than that our stay was nice. Excellent location and price, tight slots, good-great buffet, good cocktail waitresses. There was no place to get a quick bite other than the sit-down café (little pricey), but a 24 Hr food court is available about football-field’s distance away down the strip (in O’Shea’s ?). Right across the street from the Mirage and other major hotels (Venetian, Caesars, Treasure Island, Bellagio, Ballys, Paris) are within short walking distance. For those of you not always interested in the high priced glitz like the Bellagio, Harrahs side of the street provides some of the more cheaper, scaled down parts of the mid strip with O'Sheas, Barbary Coast, Imperial Palace, and Flamingo very close. There's a food court in O'Sheas with a Burger King, Subway, and O'Shea's $.99 cent menu. A Denny's is also nearby for those wanting a basic breakfast. You can get a brat or hot dog and a beer in the Flamingo and IP for cheap. I enjoyed Harrah's casino although it was tough to get on a $5 or $10 Blackjack table. Often there wasn't even a $5 table running. The sportsbook operates smoothly though it is not a huge place like Casesar's to sit and watch stuff all day long. The staff was very courteous to me and I was able to get my room comped for my stay. My dad was actually very surprised at this since he stays there often and rarely gets comps. He's a Harrahs regular and says that other Harrah's locations are more liberal with their comps than Vegas, but on this weekend, it worked for me! I'll be back not just because they comped me though, but because the hotel location was very good, the rooms were good, the casino was fun and not overly crowded (unlike NY NY), and the rates are not too bad. <mike_knott -at- yahoo.com> - USA - Added 03/25/02 - [144.160.5***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 03/02 - Good Visit Great location. When I went to check in the front desk clerk barly spoke English and could not even direct me to the elevators. The pool was small and almost covered by shade most of the day so if you did not want to tan at high noon you were in trouble. The room was very large and nice but the view I was given by the non-english speaking clerk gave me a great view of an alley. Casino area itself was kind of seedy but if you are anywhere in Vegas you must see the Mac King afternoon show. It almost saved the hotel. <sdavidhill -at- hotmail.com> - Milford CT USA - Added 06/04/03 - [24.45.227***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/02 - Good Visit Ww just returned from a four night stay at Harrahs. The rooms were very reasonable but not particularly memorable. Basically a typical hotel room. Started out in the Carnival Tower which was a walk from the casino gaming area . This room was plenty spacious for the two of us but as we began to unpack we found that the dresser drawers were broken. Not a good start but a quick call to the desk and we were assigned a new room. We moved to their Mardi Gras Tower. Closer to the gaming but the room seemed very tired. And the window, such as it was, looked out on an exterior wall. Staff very courteous and friendly. Our housekeeping woman was great! Always had a good word and smile and asking if we needed anything extra. Check-in and check out very fast! The desk maintains safety deposit type boxes since ther are no in-room safes. So you have to weave your way to the desk on a daily basis. Found the slots to be very unforgivng. Table dealers friendly. We ate at the buffet once but did not find the food value to be worth the cost. There is a good variety - just the food is not well prepared. For price and variety try the Alladin Spice Market . I think perhaps the strength of Harrah's is its location. Right in the heart of the strip. If you are looking for convenience then Harrah's can work for you. We got a good deal on the rooms ($49/night) so given the cost this makes the Harrah's visit a winner! <wndwalkr -at- fuse.net> - Cincinnati OH USA - Added 02/08/02 - [216.196.160.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/02 - Good Visit Stayed for 3 nights; excellent value at $39 per day. Best location in town. We tried many of the casinos on the strip from Harrah's to Excalibur and found Harrah's has LOOSEST SLOTS because it was always crowded with players. Best time to play slots from 1PM to 100 AM. We has some luck and jackpots common occurance because of large number of people playing everywhere. Best rule of thumb in Vegas PLAY WHERE THERE IS LOTS OF PEOPLE. We still lost money but won lots of casino money to gamble with too!! Customer Service was average depending who you dealt with. Would recommend Harrah's for good selection of slots, good payout performance and LOCATION. <ddare -at- shaw.ca> - Victoria BC Canada - Added 02/08/02 - [24.64.223.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/02 - Good Visit Had an offer of 3 free nights thru Harrahs slot club so decided to try them out. Great location on the strip! Make sure to request Carnival tower when making res. These are nicer rooms than in the Mardi Gras tower, which is not to say MG rooms are not good, just not as updated and view seems to be a little better in the Carnival side. Never tried any restaurants here, so can't comment other than ads in lobby and elsewhere seem to indicate prices were ok. TV checkout was quick and easy. Table games about what you expect on the strip, $5 bj at slow times but $10 and up evenings on shoes,$25 double deck. Hit a few quads on video poker but not a lot of full pay machines, some crazy slots, who makes those things? Slots with carrots and tomatoes and other veggies, why??? I didn't stay at Harrahs, but gambled quite a bit there. One of the few nice places on the Strip that had ample $10 blackjack tables at night. The dealers were very friendly, and even the crap workers were very nice although the tables were COLD. The pit bossses were very friendly as well unlike next door at Casino Royale. I went to Casino Royale because they had $3 craps and $5 blackjack, but the pit bosses were grumpy old farts. I won't go there again. If I am going to lose my money I'd like to enjoy myself. Back to Harrah's....also wanted to mention that I ate dinner twice at the buffet and both times the staff was very polite and took care of me. The food was more than good enough (Prime rib, SPLIT Alaskan crab legs, PEELED shrimp) and the best part is they had REAL ice cream! with all of the trimmings including hot fudge, my favorite. I usually stay downtown, but if I were to stay on the Strip I would look into Harrah's. Can't beat the location, and the staff was excellent, and the blackjack tables were "giving". <gchar49 -at- hotmail.com> - Ewa Beach HI USA - Added 02/20/02 - [165.248.247.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 02/02 - Good Visit Great place to stay. We arrived from the airport at approximately 11 a.m.. We waited 155-20 minutes to check in. Our room was not ready when we arrived. We had requested a room with a view and a king bed. We were told we may not get a room with a view. We were checked in as much as feasible and were allowed to leave our luggage at Harrah's. We then hit the strip. We later returned to Harrah's a couple hours later to check on the status of our room. We were given a room on the 20th Floor of the Carnaval Tower. The room was clean and attractive in appearance. The bathroom was a decent size. The view was excellent. We had a wonderful view of the Rio Casino, Caesar's palace and the Palms Casino off in the distance. The Rio is quite impressive looking at night. At $39 a night we had absolutely no complaints. Harrah's is ideally located in the center of the strip. Shuttles are very close for many destinations. Harrah's has a shuttle for the Rio. Shuttles leave the nearby Barbary Coast for the Orldeans and the Gold Coast Casinos. A monorail leaves Bally's for MGM and the south end of the strip. Harrah's is also close to the Casino Royale which offers our favorite $1 Blackjack table. The location just can't be beat. The casino itself is attractive, clean and relatively free of smoke. Navigation within the casino is effortless. The slots were tight for us but we found this true just about everywhere we went. I got killed on the slots during this visit and was only spared despair by the roulette table at The Orleans. I did win $50 on one quarter slot machine at Harrah's. We actually spent very little time gambling in Harrah's. We played a few slots but did not engage in table games at Harrah's. The limits are just too high for our low budget approach. We played $1 black jack at the Casino Royale, $2 black jack at the California Casino (downtown) and the 50 cent roulette table at the Orleans. In the Carnaval Court folks dressed up in smart joker or jester outfits hand out coupons for the buffet, Clint Holmes show, Mac King show, The Comedy Club and the Scintas at the Rio. The buffet at Harrah's is excellent. The variety is superb. The food is fresh and of high quality. We ate both breakfast and lunch at the buffet and would recommend sleeping in and catching the lunch buffet. We found the lunch buffet to be superior in offerings for a mininimal additional expense. I enjoyed the primed rib, lobster medallions, peeled shrimp, and salmon just to name a few entrees that were available for lunch. Carved ham and omellettes made to order were also available for breakfast. I enjoyed a waffle with bananas foster on top during one of our lunch trips. The salad and vegetable selection was praised by my significant other. The hard scooped icecream was also excellent. In fact the desserts in general were fantastic. I especially liked the chocolate fruit cups. The Harrah's buffet is attractively decorated and laid out. The market theme is creatively displayed throughout the buffet area. Another virtue of this buffet is that it is sufficiently separated from the slots to allow for a peacful meal. We never felt cramped for space, rushed or annoyed in any way in Harrah's buffet. We had originally planned to try several buffets including the buffet at Paris. After eating breakfast the second day at the Harrah's buffet we quickly decided to scrap going anywhere else for our buffet meals. In part we chose this strategy due to the $6 off we receieved on each meal using the coupons which were freely handed out in the Carnaval Court. We have eaten at the MGM buffet in the past and found Harrah's to be superior to that buffet. A word of caution about the coupons handed out at the Carnaval Court for shows. Be sure the coupons for the Rio shows will be honored before you take the shuttle to the Rio. We were given a 2 for 1 coupon for the Scintas but the Rio would not honor it. If we had known this fact, we probably would have skipped the Rio. This is my one complaint. Harrah's staff should not be handing expired coupons or coupons that will not be honored by their sister Casino property in the Carnaval Court. The coupons for the Mac King Show are definately worth your pursuit. The coupon allows you to see the show for the cost of a drink ($5.95 plus tax). This show is worth your time and money. It is humorous, entertaining, and impressive. From a show perspective this was probably the best deal we encountered in Vegas. The drinks by the way were superior to the freebies offered on the casino floor. We asked for and received pina coladas with some strawberry daquiri flavor addded to spice up the drinks. I cannot recommend enough the Mac King show. This show occurs at 1 and 3 pm and is worth planning into your day. It is not Mystere or Lance Burton, but then again it does not raid your wallet. Harrah's recently extended Mac Kings contract, and I think that was a wise choice by the casino. We had one meal at the Range Restaurant. The restaurant has a classy and impressive interior. The food is excellent. We especially enjoyed the onion soup which is served in an onion. I had a porterhouse steak and my significant other had a chicken entree. The service was friendly, prompt and excellent. The best we had at a fine dining establishment on our trip. Without liquor, the tab came to about $70 excluding tip. The view is not all that impressive or elevated. The windows overlook the Carnaval Court. There also was a piano player in the restaurant but we could not hear the piano where we sat in the restaurant. I would not say the Range is overpriced. I would rather say I have found better values on the strip. You can get food that is arguably just as good along with superior views and ambiance for the same or less cost. However, I don't think you will find superior service. We felt Mon Abi Gabi in the Paris Casino was a better value. We had marvelous meals there along with booze for essentially the same price as The Range. The Cafe at the Golden Nugget downtown was also a better value. We probably will not eat in The Range again, bu <pande1979 -at- aol.com> - USA - Added 01/07/02 - [64.12.102***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 01/02 - Good Visit We just returned from Las Vegas and had a great time. We were very impressed with everything that we experienced at this hotel and casino, and would definately hightly recommend staying and playing here. The front desk staff was very courteous and friendly and efficient. The room accommodation was the best we have ever had on the strip, the room was spacious, clean, a great view, had plenty of furniture, and smelled fresh. The gaming action in the casino started out kinda tight, but ended up being as good or better then other casino's, we hit many payouts. There is such a huge variety of slots that you just need to keep moving until you find a winning one. Wish that they had more of the $0.25 wheel-of-fortune slots. We found the $1 Blazing 7's slots to be the hottest. The food in this hotel is outstanding, it has the best buffet that we found on the strip. There is also a smaller sit-down restaurant (think its called the Masquerade) that offers very good menu and prices for late night and morning snacks or meals. The service in this restaurant was not quite as good as the buffet, but was still quite good. The only negative we saw during our visit, was that the restrooms on the casino floor were not very clean, particularly the one by the Carnival tower elevators. The music from the band in the strip side lounge was not much to our liking, we have heard much better from there on previous visits. Overall, this is a fun place to stay and play, definately one of the best places. <fmyers7428 -at- aol.com> - Apple Valley MN USA - Added 01/06/02 - [64.12.102***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 11/01 - Undecided My husband and I stayed at the hotel in November because we always enjoy going into the casino to gamble when making our rounds when we come out to Las vegas. Upon arriving from the airport and anxious to get checked in as most people are we walked into a line of 4 or 5 people also waiting to get checked in. Thinking this should not take a half hour to forty five minutes we were wrong. They had several people checking guests out and 1 checking in and she was very slow and could have cared less if there were 1 or 20 people standing in line. After waiting as long as we were going to I walked up to the next available women at which time she looked up and said "I didn't call you yet" I replied with excuse me what did you say? Needless to say if the room wasn't going to be free we would have walked out immediatly. We finally did get checked in and our room was nice, clean and did have a very nice veiw of the Mirage's volcano. We went down to gamble and within a half hour my husband hit a royal on a 50 cent poker machine and around the corner from him I hit 4 aces. Within half of an hour we won quite a bit. We love the buffet and have eaten there many times before our stay there. We also like the fact that when they come to pay you off they have the money with them and don't have to wait for someone else to watch. We both play video poker and they really don't have an awful big selection of these. The location is good. Not enough drink girls and very few ashtrays. We are use to being comped for everything when we stay at the Stardust and the cash back and food comps have alot to be desired at Harrah's.
