Whatever you do, spend a few extra dollars and DO NOT stay at the San Remo. I am not picky and have previously stayed at the Sahara, Flamingo, and New Frontier. As long as I have a clean room to sleep in, I am satisfied (as you aren't in your room very often). If you don't mind an off-strip location, The Orleans is great.

We booked through a pkg. deal in the summer and thought it was a good price. Apparently, they had better deals closer to the date because it was so close to Christmas. We could have stayed at the Monte Carlo for less money, but we were locked into this hotel because we booked through a package deal in advance. (We accepted this and hoped for the best...but we were more than surprised!)

The elevators were so filthy and loaded with grime on the doors and used glasses and cigarettes when we arrived at 10:00 a.m. The elevator always stopped on the 2nd floor even though no one was there. I don't think it was serviced in years. The carpet in our room was stained and had someone's leftover paper particles on it. I asked the maid to clean it, but she didn't. The worst was the field of mold all over the bathroom ceiling...thick, black mold spores, which are very dangerous and can cause respiratory problems. I have allergies, so I was freaking out. I'm sure they'll clean and paint over them, but the mold problem can be more serious, and spread throughout the building. This hotel needs to be condemned and imploded.

We stayed overnight, but I was even afraid to brush my teeth with the water. The next morning, we found another hotel, and got our bags and checked out without warning. They offered to give us a new room, but the only room we wanted was one that wasn't in the San Remo!

The location isn't so great either, it's behind the Tropicana, and it's a maze to try to get across the street. I'd rather sleep on the street.

Please trust me. I really don't mind staying at the less expensive hotels in Vegas, but this one is pitiful!

Even the casino bathrooms were dirty and the cleaning lady was just leaving. They smell, and are not properly cleaned. I suspect that she was only replenishing the toilet paper.

The pool was freezing although they claim that it's year-round. I'm from Chicago, and would be willing to take a dip if the temp was decent, but I would have caught Pneuomonia.

BEWARE!

THIS WAS BY FAR....THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED AT!! I BOOKED THIS HOTEL IN AUGUST THRU A PACKAGE DEAL...WHAT A MISTAKE!! I READ THE RATINGS BEFORE I LEFT FOR THE TRIP...THINKING POSITIVELY I HOPED FOR THE BEST! WHEN WE ARRIVED AT 1AM FROM THE AIRPORT...WE WERE BOOKED INTO A SMOKING ROOM...AFTER SPECIFICALLY ASKING FOR NON-SMOKING. THE ROOM WAS POORLY LIT, SMELLED MUSTY AND "BAR ROOM LIKE". ONE LAMP DIDN'T WORK AT ALL. WE WERE BOOKED FOR A KING SIZE BED..AND THIS ROOM HAD 2 FULL SIZE BEDS AND THE MATTRESSES SORT OF SUNK IN. ONE BED HAD 2 PILLOWS...THE OTHER BED HAD NONE! MY HUSBAND LAID ON THE BED AND SAW A "ROACH" LOOKING BUG ON THE CEILING. I TURNED DOWN THE COMFORTER OF MY BED AND FOUND A BEDBUG!! YES A BEDBUG! I REFUSED TO STAY IN THE ROOM AND MY HUSBAND WENT TO THE REGISTRATION DESK TO ASK FOR ANOTHER ROOM. HONESTLY THOUGH, I JUST WANTED TO LEAVE AND GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!! THE SECOND ROOM WAS NOT ANY BETTER...ALTHOUGH I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BEDBUG! THEY SERIOUSLY HAVE A NERVE CALLING THIS A 3 STAR HOTEL. IT IS DIRTY, RUN DOWN AND THE IT SHOULD BE CALLED SAN REMODEL INSTEAD OF SAN REMO!!
THINGS THAT WERE WRONG:
TV HAD ABOUT 3 STATIONS...AND THEY DIDN'T COME IN WELL!
THE SHOWER TRICKLED...AND WAS NEVER MORE THAN TEPID!
THREE LAMPS IN THE ROOM...ONE WORKED.
THE CASINO IS DARK, DINGY AND I NEVER WON MORE THAN A FEW COINS IN THE SLOTS.
DON'T OPEN YOUR SLIDERS!! THERE IS NO BALCONY...IT'S A STRAIGHT DROP TO THE GROUND....NOT SURE HOW THEY GET AWAY WITH THAT!
I WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPIER STAYING IN MY CAR!! WOULD NEVER EVER STAY THERE AGAIN...IT TOTALLY RUINED MY LAS VEGAS VACATION!!!!!

Hadn't stayed here in a long time and was a little concerned about some of the negative comments, but we got a deal we couldn't refuse. Nothing wrong with the hotel. Our room was clean, if not perfect, and we had one small problem with a hosekeeping supervisor who didn't want to bring us new pillows, but the front desk quickly resolved that. Our roon was as requested.
The casino was small, friendly and we never waited for a drink. The pool was clean and uncrowded.
We usually stay at the Paris and this is definately not the Paris. What do you expect? If you compare this to a five star hotel, it comes up short. But it compares favorably to a mid-level hotel. It has a great location, just across from the MGM and near the Luxor, NYNY and Monte Carlo. Our preference would still be Paris, but if we got this kind of a bargain again - less than half the price for twice the stay, airfair included - we'd stay here without hesitation.

Easy check-in, clean rooms. Casino is small, and it's hard to get in on a table game. Cocktail service non-existent if you aren't at the tables. Overall solid value, we often stay here on Saturday nights to avoid the high rates of strip casinos. Pretty good location.

We had another great trip to Vegas. The San Remo is a great secret. The location is ideal(being close to the south action). We paid $29.00 a night - the rooms were clean and the pool area was a blast. We took drinks down there with no problems. It is great to get away from the crowds too. The casino area is small but the dealers are friendly and the booze flows. We will return next year for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to keep in mind that this is where you'd stay if you didn't want to spend a lot of money. You're paying for a location and a view more than things to do in the hotel. The people who work at the hotel assume that you're going to be a cheapskate, so there are a few policies in place that are ridiculous. I wanted to pay for everything in cash, so I had to pay a $50 deposit. And worse than that, I picked up the phone to make a local call, and it didn't work. That's right, they charge 75 cents for all calls, even local ones. And if you're paying cash, that's another $25 deposit. But the fun part about staying there is that it's right next to the MGM Grand, Tropicana, New York New York, and Excalibur...all nice tourist spots. Here are the four best strip Hotels: Caesar's Palace, the Bellagio, the Aladdin, and the MGM Grand. You can walk to any of them from San Remo if you have good shoes. And when you walk back, you have a clean room to stay in. So that's how you should plan your stay if you want to pay around $50 a night during your stay. Not a bad vacation.

I really like this hotel - The room was very nice for the money and considering I only stay in there long enough to sleep and shower, what else could you want? - The room was clean and the maid was super nice. This hotel is a great money saver and has a small casino that is rather beautiful. The table games are sparse but never too crowded. I never had a problem with getting a "free" drink while playing. The food and service at breakfast was super - I did not do the buffet but others did and there were no complaints. This hotel is a very short walk to the Tropicana and MGM Grand when you want to go out. I also never had a problem getting a taxi right away. Save your money and stay here...

I enjoyed being in Vegas, which is the greatest playground on earth for people over 21! San Remo is cheap and is pretty close to many great hotel casinos. $2 blackjack and $3 craps were nice to see and play, especially if you are on a budget. Had the $4.95 steak and eggs twice and it was very good. Service was a bit slow. The $4.95 prime rib was tough and, again, slow service. Maids were very kind and quick to bring "forgottens". Towels and linens were fresh. Rewards system is a bit "tight". My only real problem was with a "long-hair" at the craps table (Joe, I think). What an attitude! It's not like one needs a college degree to work at a casino. He acted as though we (players) were there to please him. As soon as a "client" left the table, he'd say something smart about the guy/gal leaving. I teach for a living, and I have to deal with "know-it-all kids" all year round. The last thing I need on a vacation is some smart-ass drop-out who thinks he is better than me, just because he knows the craps game a little better than I do. After the second day, I left everytime he showed up at the table. I did enjoy playing at the Tropicana. Still, an enjoyable time.

Didn't stay here, but we went to see the Showgirls of Magic. Found the show to be pretty entertaining. Can't say much else positive about this place. We played for a short while in the casino before the show. We didn't win a damn thing and got a couple of room temperature beers for our trouble. After the show, we found that the taxis don't stop at this dump. We found a long line of people waiting in the taxi line, but no attendant, and more importantly, no taxis. We waited about 15 minutes without seeing one and decided to run across the street to civilization (the MGM) just to catch a cab. Like I said before, the show was good, but I don't think it was worth venturing into this dump just for that. Avoid at all costs. What a dive!

Where do I start... 1st clue, we go to the "buffet". Everyone is ordering offa the menus ! For good reason. The buffet is 3 items...9 to 12 dollars, please.Casino ? Guess again ! We walked to the Tropicana. Better than nothing. OH ! and the helpful desk lady ! We got there at 2 pm Tuesday. Not a soul in the hotel ! SORRY, SIR !! check in is 4 pm !! Unbelieveable attitude and policy. Lastly, a hotel TV from hell. No cable, 3 stations all fuzzy. Pay per view just as fuzzy and unwatchable. The good side ? easy in and out AND, convenient to the airport. Sorry, San Remo, these are the facts.

After 20 years of visiting Las Vegas this is without a doubt the worst hotel that I have ever stayed at. The only pleasant experience I had was the check out! There were two couples in the group and when I made the reservations 2 months earlier I requested an adjoining room or at the very least rooms close to each other. What I got was the exact opposite. My wife and I were on the 10th floor of the gold tower while the other couple was put on the 18th floor of the silver tower. We may as well have been in separate hotels! When I told the desk clerk that this was not even close to the arrangment I had requestd I expected an apology. Did I get one? No! What I got was this is the best we can do and if you don't like it you are more than welcome to find other accommodations on the strip, but we will have to charge you for your first nights stay.

I didn't get any better when I got to the room. Once inside, the conditions were poor at best. I found peeling wallpaper, only one lamp that worked, a bathtub that did not drain properly, a telephone that had no face/coverplate, and gang graffiti on the inside of the door. I had better living conditions in Marine Corps boot camp.

Talking about boot camp, I had better food in the mess hall. We decided to try their breakfast at the resturant one morning and were appalled to find only dirty dishes at the head of the buffet line. When I brought this to the attention of the wait staff I was told that was all they had we could take it or leave it. We should have left it! We waited 20 minutes for the clean plates to show up from the kitchen and even then had to sort through these "clean plates" to find some that actually were clean. Once in line we found the food was not hot or being refilled in a timely manner. What food there was available was either tasteless or unappealing. Don't ever substitute cheese whiz in a cheese omelet - it tastes terrible. I could have made a better breakfast in an easy bake oven.

The casino area is small but adequate with a fair amount of gaming devices to choose from however, the cocktail service was either slow or non-exsistent. I waited an hour and a half and no one showed up at the slot/video machines to take a drink order. When I approached a cocktail waitress to place an order she told me that they were only taking orders from the table players until things slowed down. It made me feel second rate. I went to bar to get my own order and when the bartender came back with 2 diet cokes and then wanted 3 dollars for them I was shocked. When I explained to him that I had been playing the machines for an hour and a half and couldn't get any cocktail service he scoffed at me as if I were not to be believed. He stated that he could only give free drinks to his bar customers. Between the room arrangements, room conditions, dirty dishes and bad food at the buffet, no cocktail service and the staffs overall bad attitude I had enough. I told the bartender were he could put his $3.00 dollar cokes and promptly left the casino area. I never spent another penny in this place during my stay.

Bottom line here folks is do not be fooled by their lower room rates. Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $40.00 a night and stay somewhere that appreciates your business and knows how to take care of their livelihood-YOU, THE PAYING CUSTOMER

It's unfortunate that the San Remo receives negative criticism. I have stayed here many times over the past 7 years and look forward to returning. The rooms are clean, comfortable and a great deal. The pool area is nice and well-kept. The hotel & casino staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome (all of the housekeepers even smile and say "hello"). This is a property just "waiting to be discovered". It's location next door to the Tropicana is fabulous. It's great for table players. The casino can be unfortunately quite but use it to your advantage. Tips to the dealers and waitresses are well-received and you are never without a drink or dealer advice. I'll sit for hours at a blackjack table and after hours of play and tipping I am always ahead. Fellow players are always friendly and it's nice to see familiar faces. My last stay was for 5 nights and it was fun to see and talk to fellow players each night. Most of the dealers great to play with (I'm sure the negative comments come from cheap players who complain and don't tip - remember that the dealers are employees who welcome tips from us players who can be rude, drunk and stupid!). By far, the San Remo has the best cocktail service to those who tip. Star the waitress is great - she's been there for a few years. I love to gamble, and for those who rate this clean and friendly casino as a "dump" have obviously not visited many other off-strip casinos. The San Remo is a "well-kept secret" to those regulars who enjoy location, value and hospitality. To respond to other comments, a cab is never hard to find; the bell desk will gladly call one for you. Room service menu is very reasonable. And for the buffet (which I've never tried), why don't you spend a few more dollars and order off a menu and eat a regular meal - or if you're that cheap walk north to the "New" Frontier and eat their all-you-eat slop for $3.99!

We were booked at the Hotel San Remo BEFORE we found this ratings site and were a little nervous about our decision after reading some of the reviews,BUT... we had a wonderful week's stay at the San Remo! Housekeeping was GREAT! Casino employees were GREAT! Management was GREAT! EXCELLENT location and VERY EASY parking! Nope....we didn't win money in the casino, but that's gambling! Sure it's not the biggest and fanciest place in town, but hey.... we didn't get lost in it and it wasn't a mile walk to the room or the car. Thank you Hotel San Remo!

My husband and I stayed at the San Remo 09/30 to 10/04/2002 and enjoyed our visit very much. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated with courtesy and professionalism. The front desk clerk was personable and very helpful. She selected a room for us with a wonderful view of New York New York, Excalibur and Luxor. That may sound impossible given that the hotel is a block off the Strip but believe me it was a better view than we ever had at the Riviera, Circus Circus or the Mirage. We loved being able to walk easily to: Tropicana, MGM Grand, New York New York, and Excalibur.

We liked the security of having to use our room card to call the elevator to the first floor. Also, contrary to the comment from the people who were robbed, our room was very secure: 1 - the door locks automatically upon closing - but you do have to make sure it closes; 2 - the deadbolt had a very positive connection, and 3 - there is a chain that is VERY securely bolted to the door and jamb. If someone got into their room it was because *the guests* failed to secure the room, not due to a problem with the locks.

We had breakfast 3 mornings at the Cafe Dei Fiori and enjoyed it. Granted, the buffet is nothing to write home about, but off the menu ordering brought very good Eggs Benedict and a made-to-order omelet. We also dined at the Paparazzi Grille our first night and were very satisfied with the pasta, seafood and prices. Our son and daughter-in-law joined us and enjoyed it as well.

We joined The Money Club and had all our questions answered by the representative who was *very* friendly. In fact, she remembered our conversation about our children joining us and later that evening was able to direct our kids right to us in the restaurant. Speaking of remembering, that evening, my husband and son had a drink at one of the bars. The next evening, our son went to the *other* bar and ordered a drink. The female bartender remembered him, his preferred brew and then asked if he wanted a different one for my husband. Our son, who always stays at the Mirage, was stunned at being remembered as it had never happened where he has stayed over 25 times.

The staff in the gift shop were pleasant and helpful, housekeeping was excellent, and our overall impression of the hotel was one of professionalism, friendliness and good fun. Although the hotel is not "kid friendly," as there are no facilities for the younger set, parents shouldn't be turned off by this. The smaller size makes it easier to keep track of the youngsters at the pool and Luigi's has snacks and ice cream that are sure to be a hit.

We are already planning our next trip to Las Vegas with Hotel San Remo as our destination. For a nice change from the anonimity of the mega resorts, try the Hotel San Remo.

The guest security is nonexistent in the older area. Someone came into our room and took our wallets while we slept. The deadbolt didn't operate properly, and the stripping to "prevent" entry by sliding a credit card between the door and the door frame was a joke. Upper management could not have been more hostile and uncooperative. The decor is tacky, even by Las Vegas standards. Much of the service staff was quite pleasant, but any positives left by staff was wiped out by management when confronted with a guest problem.

The room was shoddy -- and I was in the newer part! Bad smell in room, dated and worn bedding, tub tile needed replacing and new sealant needed around tub. Flushing toilet was a challenge. Paid $59 for room (a group rate) and that was overpriced for a schlocky hotel. Upper management unresponsive, rude and totally lacking any customer service skills to individuals in our group that experienced a room robbery. Will never stay at hotel again.

Nothing fancy but clean and very affordable(we paid 29.00 a night...book online ...its cheaper). Great location and the MGM tram is across the street. The slots in the casino are very tight and the dealers aren't that friendly. The waitresses come often though to the tables. We will certainly return to this hotel to stay but would gamble elsewhere!!!!

1st time at the San Remo. I liked it as there was no wait to check-in or out. Elevators fast. Room was Holiday Inn quality. Casino small, but I could find others in my party with no problem. Pool heated and open. Won money there! Sports book small but efficient. No race book however, but MGM a short walk. Slot club host very nice and helpfull. A good value. Friends went to the Showgirls of Magic show and enjoyed it. Only down side was you couldn't get ESPN or CNN or Fox News for sports scores and news. Only local stations. I went with the guys this trip and had a blast at this hotel, but if I was taking the wife, I would stay at a more upscale hotel and spend a few extra hundred.

I really feel sorry for the folks who were robbed, but this is a great place. Being in the resort business myself-you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Employees like to be treated nice-THEY WILL RETURN IN KIND. It has a friendly atmosphere despite what others have said. Its easy to find your party and once the employees know you, they will go out of their way to accomodate you. This is my home base and I am treated better for my play than anywhere else. Going in august with full comp RFB,limo p/u to and fro from the airport, and airfair reinbursement with siute upgrade. Try getting that from another hotel for low to mid level playing-And Im no big player by any stretch. Faye Abel and Karen Munn are the best hosts. THe rooms are not Bellagio or Venetian standard but if thats what you want-fork out the money for those places. What are you doing in your room will you are in Vegas anyways? Have to laugh when people complain about TV channels-see above comment. If your room is not satisfactory wherever you stay-if you ask nice it should be rectified. If you are an ashole-expect the runaround. Get out and enjoy your vacation-you earned IT !

For my first stay in Las Vegas Hotel San Remo has very nice & cozy rooms.
Good sized Casino, I though it was larger though.
I would like to have seen just a little smile and a "Hello" greeting from the girl who checked me in. Instead I recieved a straight face and "May I help you"
Just a little courtesy would have brightened up my brief stay.
If I didn't have to checkout at 5am and leave I would have stayed another night.

the first time i visited this hotel, i had a bad experience. The rooms were nice, but they were not cleaned good enough. the room we had had someone's fake press-on nails on the side of the bed. that was soooo disgusting!!! also, there was a HUGE bug in the room. i don't know if it was a roach or not. then when we had the room "cleaned", all of our garbage was still in the room. so, i e-mailed the hotel and told complained to them and i was reimbursed very well. the lady in charge took care of me and the next time i visited i was upgraded to a jacuzzi suite. all i payed was $29/night. the room was soooo clean and it was nice and big. they were so friendly and the room was cleaned thoroughly. this made the bad experience i had there the 1st time not matter. it really made up for it. the location is good and the food is also very good and cheap, too! the standard rooms are nice, it was just that the housekeeper was not doing her job the 1st time. i suggest staying here because it is right off the strip and very convenient and the rooms were even nicer than at the excalibur and alot cheaper too!

For the price and location, this has to be one of the best values in Vegas. It's a little off the strip but right next to the Tropicana. In fact, they used to advertise that they were closer to MGM than MGM's own parking garage.

It's not fancy. Basic rooms but of good size. Decent size bathroom but again, it's not fancy.

I wasn't impressed with the restaurant offerings but the coffee shop has a prime rib dinner for $5.95 that's pretty good. I only recomend it during regular dinning hours as it wasn't so hot during odd hours.

The casino is also pretty small. If you're a slot player the slots are supposed to be pretty loose. If so, I haven't seen it. Table minimums are usually pretty low as well.

If you're looking for a clean room for a few hours sleep, this is a great place.

Last June was my 5th or 6th time there; and as usual it was a wonderful stay. It is a small casino with wonderful staff but it is also close to the other Strip hotels. Well worth the money. Food is good also.

We have stayed at the San Remo every trip to Las Vegas for the past 5 years. It's location is great. The food is also good. Casino machines are a little tight but fun. We will probably be here again next year!

Went here for the "great" prime rib as advertised as one of the best values in Vegas on the "advisor" web site. The prime rib and baked potato were small and barely warm. The waiter didn't have a clue about being a waiter. The salad was lettuce in a bowl. The steak was tough. The casino is about the size of your living room. What a waste of space.
