Date Visited: 12/03 - Good Visit Currently a guest at the Monte Carlo. Love it. Check in was smooth, the location is great and we got a great rate considering the holiday. Buffet is pretty good, coffee shop is also good, although the service is slow at night, like everywhere else. What is the deal with that? They have to know that people are up all night and hungry... Why not staff apropriately? Walls are thin, but we just beat on them when the neighbors got too loud, and they shut right up. The casino ventilation system seems to handle smoke a little better than some others. Maybe it just seems that way because of the terrific "Monte Carlo smell" they pipe in 24 hrs a day. <tsmiller1 -at- yahoo.com> - Henderson NV USA - Added 12/30/03 - [68.108.134.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 11/03 - Good Visit Monte Carlo is a great value on the Strip with a premiere location, right in the middle of everything! I checked in late on a Monday night and was in my room in no time to relax. As it is a low season in November, they were able to accomodate my request for a room with a Strip view without any problems (I didn't try the $20 for an upgrade or anything- perhaps for a next trip). The room was clean and pretty spacious. Sleep came pretty easily and there were no noise problems. As I booked the hotel with my flight as a package, it was a pretty good deal. Comparing this to my previous visit when I stayed at the Luxor, the rooms are comparable, but the location here is definitely superior. All in all, a good stay and would recommend to others. <bliu21 -at- hotmail.com> - USA - Added 11/29/03 - [68.237.71.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 First time in my life my room was ready when I checked in at 10 AM. This was great, didnt have to come back at 3. Had a room on the 3rd floor, small room, nothing special, but the beds were ROCK HARD. Our view overlooked a lower roof that had several dead pigeons and a dead large snake. We didn't hear any noise like a lot of others have complained about, this was good. Our room was 2nd from the end, but it was a short walk to the elevators and they were always there. We were able to check out at noon, by asking the front desk. There is music playing at the pool (radio). The lunch buffet was great. Found out on sundays they do not offer a breakfast buffet, just a brunch at $16 or so, I just wanted a small breakfast. There is a nice food court in the hotel, just off the casino. I was able to find $5 blackjack tables everywhere on the strip all weekend. Some friends ate at the steak house, said it was very expensive. <spunk0210 -at- yahoo.com> - USA - Added 10/09/03 - [216.41.118.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 Didn't stay at this hotel, however, I had dinner at the Monte Carlo buffet on the evening of Sat. 10/11. There were 6 in our party. I have to say that I've been going to LasVegas for years and this was absolutely the worst meal I've ever had in LasVegas. We would have been happier with fast food, and two in our party even got upset stomachs. The food was not hot, was bland, had sat in the steamtable too long, or was otherwise awful. None of us enjoyed the meal. Four in our party were leaving town, but the manager gave us a comp for two free meals. Even with that, we were not compelled to return because the food was really that bad. <brunopup -at- hotmail.com> - Johnson City TX USA - Added 10/19/03 - [4.64.190***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 - Undecided not impressed with the rooms. very small, very noisy, very little storage. (dresser drawers would not even stay shut and we could hear our neighbor use their shower/sink/toilet...everything) bathrooms are not girlie friendly (i.e. no make-up mirror and the sink counter was too deep to lean over to put on make-up) <indy_chik -at- excite.com> - Indianapolis IN USA - Added 11/04/03 - [68.57.252***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 - Undecided Meeting rooms were very nice, however the guest rooms were not. The drawers in the chest would not stay closed. The noise from plumbing kept waking me up and could also hear the neighbors talking. Vanity in bathroom is too small. There needs to be a lighted makeup mirror for the female guests. Water pressure was poor in shower also. Maids were quick to knock on doors before 9am unless the privacy sign was out. Buffet was expensive and not very good. Pool area is in shade most of the time. One good thing was that the Hotel is in a good location which made it easy to go elsewhere for entertainment. <kdav6429 -at- comcast.net> - Indianapolis IN USA - Added 11/05/03 - [68.57.252***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 10/03 - Good Visit I stayed here in 2001 couldn't go back that far on the month visited, but I am staying this October also. Check in went very smooth, concierge was great for booking shows and the hospitality room on floor 32 was a nice touch, casino was very friendly and as we were winning very appealing my husband took about 5k from the tables. Jet lag was a problem but what ever time we visited the cafe we always received a smile and good service as we had a vip card we were able to jump the queue. We spent the evening of our wedding in the lounge bar which was very pleasant and friendly. We would definitely stay here again and hope to come back for Las Vegas's big anniversary celebrations 2005. <jack.butler -at- lineone.net> - Hastings England - Added 08/03/04 - [195.93.33***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 It was the first time that we have stayed at the Monte Carlo and most previous comments are spot on. We were on the 25th floor, it had a good lay out of the lifts with very little waiting, we also had a good view up the strip. The receptionist was pleasant and was very helpfull, no hold ups booking in or out, we got a king bed and strip view with no fuss. The rooms are very good the only down side was a small bath and the plumbing noises waking you in the morning, it was annoying when it was in the early hours. We were there for a week and most times you didnt notice the thin walls, but on one occasion we did, they must have moved on as that was the only time or perhaps it was the alcohol kicking in and making us deaf. The housekeeping did a good job and changed sheets and all the towels daily. We had 2 bottles of water in the room when we arrived, one had been opened and was half full. I left a note and it was replaced and they didnt try to charge us for it. The food and entertainment is good in the brewery, but on one evening (about 9.30) we must have been eating when our waitress was moving on and she made us feel hurried, the other 2 times though the service and food was great. Didnt use the buffet but can reccommend the one at the Aladdin. Would definitley return to Monte Carlo. <PAUL12345654321 -at- AOL.COM> - Bradford Uk - Added 06/16/03 - [195.93.33***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit Recently went to Vegas (Sep 1-3,2003). This was our first stay at the Monte Carlo and we were very pleasantly surprised. We found most of the reviews on this site to be fairly accurate - great location on the strip (central to most of the new hotels), awesome bed (husband had the best night's sleep), and the rates were very reasonable. Also true to the reviews - very thin walls (wasn't much of a problem though since neighbors were quiet at night)and the tram to Bellagio was closed (also not a big deal as you expect to do a bit of walking in Vegas). Check-in took longer than expected, but we may have simply chosen a bad line as the other clerks seemed to be checking in guests rather quickly. When we checked out, we did so via the in-room tv menu which saved a lot of time. And since we had a few hours to kill before heading off to the airport, we left out bags with the concierge in the lobby. It's a great convenience and most hotels will happily do this for you. Didn't gamble or dine here, but had a great experience and were very happy with our stay. Great value overall. We would definitely stay there again! <janiceshu -at- shaw.ca> - Canada - Added 09/10/03 - [24.84.51.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit First visit to Vegas. Loved the Monte Carlo. Not overwhelming, seems more intimate and friendly than many other resorts we visited. It's worth it to go for the Monaco Suite. Lots of room, well laid out. I've read the reports of paper-thin walls, but we didn't experience that. The only noise we heard was plumbing noise from adjacent rooms (maybe above or below us) - but we hear that in almost every hotel we stay in. Small food court is convenient. 24 hour cafe is very nice. Pool area was fun - small wave pool, small winding river, hot tub and another regular pool. Never too crowded, very pleasant place to spend a few hours in the afternoon. Can't wait to go back to Vegas - will definitely stay at the Monte Carlo again. <sivillo -at- frontiernet.net> - Bullville NY USA - Added 10/03/03 - [170.215.241.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit Wow, after everything I had read about this place I was a little scared to stay there. I had reservations for 4 -2 queen non smoking rooms for my 4th annual girls trip. I must say that this is the 1st hotel in all my years there to get it completely right. One room was ready at 1030am, the others by early afternoon. Rooms were spacious and bathrooms were huge. Rooms were cleaned by noon everyday. Staff was extremely pleasant to deal with. CAsino dealers and clientelle were awesome. I must say that I will be back again to the Monte-CArlo. <misfit1974 -at- hotmail.com> - Roy WA USA - Added 10/08/03 - [64.65.147.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit Stayed at the Monte Carlo several years ago in 1997 and had a great experiece. A nice overall experience, but I wouldn't recommend it for families with small children. <feanor -at- dsli.com> - Wpb FL USA - Added 01/08/04 - [209.42.35***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit Very nice room for the price. Excellent pillow top mattress on the bed. One of the most comfortable we've slept in while in Vegas. The paper thin walls are unfortunately true. We had reasonably quite neighbors but could here them when they were in the room. Most of the time, it wasn't a problem at all. If we had party animals next door living it up or someone who liked to watch the TV at odd hours, it would have been a major problem. Otherwise this was a great resort to stay at. <dougp26364 -at- cs.com> - Wichta KS USA - Added 08/07/03 - [192.206.5***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit My husband surprised me with a spa suite (30th floor) for our 5th wedding anniversary. I also surprised him with a spa suite at the Luxor. GMTA :-) Anyways, given the choice of having this suite or the one at the Luxor...there's no contest..this suite wins hands down. Check-in was a breeze with very little waiting time and a very nice and efficent front desk clerk. Walk to the elevator was easy and getting to the room was a cinch. Elevators were clean (as compared to the Luxor) and fast. Got to the room with no problems and we were delighted by the room itself. Marble entry, wet bar with all the necessary items including a frig and sink. Sound system was great with the bosche speakers mounted on the walls. Appreciate the fact that there were removeable hangers (small thing I know but I hate those "cant take them off to hang your clothes, who'd want to steal them anyways hangers at other hotels) Bed was very comfortable but we must have had a new guest room attendant as the bed was short-sheeted. (I actually found it kind of funny) One quick call to the housekeeping department and the problem was solved. We left to go downstairs to shop and when we came back less than an hour later the bed was fixed and the room recleaned. Great service. Our dinner at the Cafe was memorable with the great food and efficient staff. The casino was great to both my husband and myself. We play those whopping nickel machines :-) and he actually hit for $187.00 on a 5x pay machine. One little problem there was that he must have spun those reels for all the were worth cause he saw smoke coming from the machine!!! Maintenence took care of the quickly! I had a great run of good luck and ended up staying in the casino until 3:30am..only problem I encountered was a very long wait for someone to come and take care of the payout. Must have been during shift change! We also had a delightful surprise when we returned to our room and saw that the bed had been turned down and we were left a red rose and 4 Godiva chocolates. Wonderful romantic touch. The hottub was relaxing with a great view of the Bellagio fountains. Room service was efficient when we called earlier in the night and requested delivery of breakfast at 4:30am. They were at our door with the breakfast at 4:29. Food was just fine and the waiter was very pleasant for that time of morning. All in all I'd have to say this was a wonderful visit for us. Sure its not Bellagio (only Bellagio is Bellagio) and some people will always find something to complain about (if you want perfection either stay at home or go to the 4 Seasons or Bellagio and spend a fortune) but we found this to be a great hotel and would love to stay there again. In fact we will for my birthday in September. Also, just so you know, this review is coming from someone who actually lives in Vegas but wanted to get away from everyday life for their anniversary! I highly recommend Monte Carlo. Of course that is a super hotel, but this time around I felt it was too pricey so I chose Monte Carlo. What a super quiet hotel. I enjoyed my stay. It was so pleasant and relaxing to go to a hotel without the hoopla. It had a small food court and great buffet. The pool was really relaxing, especially during the hot season. The room was clean and very nice. Great Bed!!!! Very comfortable. The rates were very reasonable and it was a fun time. This was a cool place to stay and play at. Check in was quick. We crammed four in a room, but, hey, I went with some cheap asses. $5 tables pretty much all weekend. I was playing at a $15 table with Rosa...awesome dealer. Pool was pretty small, but since it was 115 degrees, we pretty much stayed inside. The 24 hour Cafe has some pretty good food (we had breakfast at 3:30 AM...food was perfect). Location was sweet, but the fricken tram to Bellagio is no longer running, so a short little trip turned into a sweaty walk down the strip. Nice poker host in the Poker room. This place is basically forgotten, but I'd stay here again. The only problem with the entire weekend is that the old jagoff lifeguard kicked us out of the lazy river and took our football! My parents and I stayed and the Monte Carlo, and really enjoyed it. I encoutered much of what has already been said about this property. The service, rooms, food options and casino were all really nice, and the price was affordable. The beds were VERY comfortable! The plumbing noise was noticable, but it wouldn't stop me from returning and staying here again. We tipped the maid staff well the first night, and received a ton of the nice bottles of free stuff they give you AND a sewing kit!! :-) As has already been mentioned, the tram to the Bellagio is out of service right now due to construction, so that was a little inconvenient. The breakfast and dinner buffets were nice. Probably not the best in town, but good food for the convenience of eating at the place you're staying in. Cafe was probably a little overpriced though. It wasn't a problem finding a $5 blackjack table and they did offer surrender as well, which was nice. My dad did pretty good on the nickel slots. The microbrews at the Brew Pub were good, but the place kind of turns weird at night. It's like it can't decide whether it's a regular bar, or a nightclub in the evening. It wasn't really very busy at night, which might be why they close the place down at 2am. I would recommend this place for someone wanting a mega-resort feel, but at lower prices than Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Mirage, etc. <rcramer -at- bgnet.bgsu.edu> - Bowling Green OH USA - Added 08/05/03 - [129.1.176***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/03 - Bad Visit We visit Vegas every year and always look forward to our trip. If I knew then what I know now, I would have steared clear of this hotel. I wasn't expecting the Bellagio, but...there were a lot of disappointments that put it at the bottom of my list. The Bathrooms- ours was in desperate need of repair with missing tiles and a leaky shower head that constantly dripped and loud pipes. The Walls- paper thin seems to be the consensus. Just hope for an empty room on both sides of you. The Pool- I love to relax poolside, but not at a dirty pool with cloudy water and pigeon feathers floating in it. The only positives that I found is the great location and a clean casino. overall there are too many other hotels in Las Vegas to stay here again! <lynees2 -at- aol.com> - USA - Added 08/15/03 - [205.188.209***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 06/03 - Good Visit Just finished my second stay at the Monte Carlo. This property once again proved that it is the best value on the Strip and a hidden gem. Rooms were comfortable and clean. We did not experience the noise problems referenced below. The staff is always very friendly (MUCH nicer than Bellagio, MGM or Venetian). Without a doubt one of the best pool areas around and the lazy river is always a hit. The Lance Burton show was magnificent and our meal at Blackstone’s was one of the best I’ve ever had. The Market City Café and the Brew Pub are well worth the trip, the buffet is excellent, the food court convenient and relatively inexpensive and the Monte Carlo Café is a wonderful alternative to the buffet when you’re looking for something besides a buffet but don’t want to spend top dollar. All in all, I can not say enough good things about the Monte Carlo. My family enjoys trying out new properties but I dare say, our experimenting days are about over. We have stayed here a number of times before and liked it. This trip we got a room on the 32nd floor which is the concierge floor. The room was pretty much the same as regular rooms. There is a lounge on this floor that has small sandwiches, fruit and drinks available throughout the day for free. There is also free liquor available from 4p-8p each day which is nice. If you want this floor you have to ask for it when checking in-I've heard that some people have got it for free and others have had to pay a little extra for it. We stayed in #32128 which was on the west wing of the hotel almost at the end with a good view north up the strip and the pool area. We could see part of the fountain show @ Bellagio but the Jockey Club blocked the view a little. Still nice @ night. The regular rate can sometimes be a little high for what you get but sign their guest book or join their slot club and rooms can be really cheap-especially during the week. We've stayed during the week for anywhere from $39-$59/nt with flyers we've received in the mail. The food court here is nice if you are in a hurry for something quick to eat. Service had its ups and downs. Concierge was very helpful to us but service @ the Brewery(twice) and buffet were not very good. The pool area is nice but you may have to get a spot far away from the pool if you want to get sun the entire afternoon. Overall it's a nice place if you can get a decent rate. <bcaywood78 -at- hotmail.com> - Cleveland OH USA - Added 05/24/02 - [156.77.105.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 05/03 - Good Visit I thought this hotel was great! One of the best things about this property is the layout. Everything is conveniently located in one central area. Parking area is a short walk right to the front desk. Front desk is right next to elevators to all the rooms. It is just a few steps from those elevators to the pool area, the food court, and the casino. The pool area is nicely landscaped and the little wave pool and river is fun for all ages. It is best to get to the pool early, because the best spots are taken early. I only had one complaint and that was with the snack bar. There was only one attendant and it took a long time to just get a hot dog and a coke. I really enjoy the Monte Carlo Brewery. It is a fun atmosphere with relatively inexpensive beer and good food as well. Live bands and dancing make the weekends particularly lively. The rooms are nice and have decent amenities. I like that the room comes with an iron. It is irritating to have to "order" an iron for an hour. A nice touch in the bathroom is having an actual bathmat instead of a flimsy towel to step onto when getting out of the shower. The staff has always been friendly and checkin has been a breeze. The casino is nicely laid out and has plenty of tables available. Just for the record the tram to the Bellagio is gone because of some construction. <bri9920 -at- yahoo.com> - Huntington Beach CA USA - Added 05/29/03 - [130.76.64***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 05/03 - Good Visit The Monte Carlo was wonderful. The resort has two great things going for it: One is the very central location and access to other strip casinos and shopping, etc. The other is the vakue they offer. We went during one of the lower price weeks and stayed in a Monaco suite. This was great because these are located close to the elevators. Whether we stay at the Monte Carlo or not, we always go to Anre's french restaurant and it was excellent as usual. The buffet was fine for breakfast and reasonable. We didn't have other meals there as we like to try different spots for lunch and dinner. We had room service twice and they are prompt and efficient. The other big highlight of this hotel is the pool area which is excellent and very popular. The wave pool is a lot of fun. One complaint about the casino - it had only a few 50 cent slots which I like to play. However, if I had won some money I suppose I wouldn't be complaining! Needless to say it was somewhat chaotic. This was also the first time I ever drove to Las Vegas (A distance of about 1800 miles). I could have taken a room with two queen size beds right away, but opted for waiting until there was one with just a single king since I was by myself. I ended up waiting probably 3 hours before it was ready but there was another couple who had already been waiting 5 hours by the time I got there. I don't know why everyone was complaining about the noisy pipes. I don't think I heard anything like that all the time I was there. I actually enjoyed having a room with decent water pressure. I chose the Monte Carlo because of it's central location and fairly reasonable rates. I could have stayed at the Excalibur for about $20 less but I didn't want to smell like pledge for the duration of my trip. I have stayed at the Stratosphere before their renovation (never again), twice at the Exalibur (not again if I can help it) and Bourbon Street (kinda scary). We upgraded to the top floor for $10/night which included the room key-accessed VIP lounge with coffee, fruit and pastries in AM and happy hour drinks at no extra charge. Ended up schlepping up there just to get a free watery drink no matter where I was- not too smart! I liked the layout and feel of the place, and my favorite band was playing in the club, so all was well. I do remember specifically requesting an envelope be delivered to their band's room by the mail/services counter staff. The casino was okay although I thought they could use more help. Sometimes you had to wait quite a while for a machine to be fixed. We would probably stay again, if they gave us a good rate. STAY out of the MGM. The MGM makes you wait & wait & wait to cash the ticket you get out of the slot machine instead of money, if you are fortunate enough to win. Other casinos have this system but like in Ballys & the Paris there are numerous floor personell who are able to cash them. At the MGM expect to hear "Sorry", "computers are down", "you have to wait 10 minutes" more often than the winning ring of their slot machines. <dollarslots -at- hotmail.com> - Stoughton MA USA - Added 05/04/03 - [209.122.236***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 04/03 - Good Visit My only real complaint was our rooms decor. GOOD THINGS: soft beds, firm pillows, nice arm chairs in rooms, easy access from elevators to the casino, GREAT Suites (we stayed on Valentine's in the big suite with the jacuzzi tub overlooking the MGM Grand!) good location on the Strip, good buffet, fun slot tournament daily, good room service at reasonable prices, very good room rates on a regular basis, good payout on slots at the casino, friendly staff. BAD THINGS: basic bathroom which needs repairs (rusty shower head), no sound-proof walls, VERY small bathtub in regular rooms. There is definitely more good than bad at Monte Carlo. You'll be happy with your stay there. <cliobare -at- aol.com> - Lake Havasu City AZ USA - Added 03/10/03 - [64.12.96***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 03/03 - Undecided The Monte carlo I knew didn't have the best rooms in the world before we stayed there. However, the pool was reputed to be fab so we booked. The hotel looks fabulous, both inside and out. The rooms have paper thin walls through which you can here absolutely everything next door (so take your tape recorders!!!!!!!!!). The casino in the week is good with, for us modest gamblers, plenty of $5 blackjack tables, BE WARNED!!! at the weekend there are virtually none. The pool was as reputed fab but BE WARNED the managememt of the monte carlo lack common sense. The 4 days we stayed in march they decided to re-surface the only sunny part of the pool, making the whole area inoperable for our entire stay. In conclusion if you are a voyeur who likes being charged over the odds in the casino by night, whilst avoiding the sunlight all day then go to the monte (YES U WOULD LOVE IT Mr Jackson).. Our trip did not start off smoothly... we were delayed almost 4 hours going out because of plane problems... so we finally got there and go to the rental car place and they gav our convertible away... gave us a 15%discount and a guarantee we would have a convertible the following morning and we did. We got to Monte Carlo... i checked into my room...no problem... mom and grandma checked into their room adn they didnt have connecting rooms for us because we checked in so late... BUT gave us connecting rooms the following day for the remainder of the trip. The casino is awesome... huge chandaliers, lots of tables and tons of slots. My trip was off to a rocky start until monday morning because I was dow close to $200 bucks... my aunt said lets play the slot tournament... its free why not so we entered and i placed second and qualified for the final that night. so at 645pm went to the finals and WON the tournament... $500!!!! I was so excited my hands were shaking. So after that we parked Grandma at the black jack table and i went off in search of a 1 dollar slot machine... put in 20 and it spit out $211... cool!!! Went to a flaming 7's machine...put in 10... it spits out $317... my family was in shock. next morning i treated to breakfast buffet at mandalay bay... good food. So now it's tuesday... mom and aunt are by the pool waiting for the sun to come over the building at 2... i get bored say im going to check on grandma at tables... on the way i stop by a dollar monte carlo riches machine...put 20 in...get 500 out...WOW... 1500 in 2 days. never made it to check on grams. Went out to pool my aunt said she's not smiling... my mom said hows grandma... i said i dont know cuz i did it again... they were floored!!! Well the rest of the trip i did crappy... ut still came home with 600 more than i went with!!!! i was happy. For you blackjack players... play between 8pm and 4am... and sit at Abi's table...he's a lot of fun and he'll really help if youre not sure what to do. Also there at the tables at that time is Donnie... he's really cute and helps a lot too. wednesday night i played on 40 for over 5 hours till abi got 2 hot shoes and there went that 40. other casinos...paris...really stuffy, hoity toity, tight slots. Boardwalk... one word DUMP!!! dont play here it's a joke. that's it we mostly played at monte carlo...cuz thats where i was winning. Gorgeous hotel and casino would do again in a heartbeat. P.S. For those who are in need of sun... the main pool doesnot get any sun till after 2pm... that was our main drawback. <thba1999 -at- cs.com> - Wauwatosa WI USA - Added 03/15/03 - [64.12.96***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 03/03 - Good Visit I was a little nervous about booking at Monte Carlo after reading others' reviews about loud plumbing pipes and paper thin walls. Unfortunately, those people were absolutely right...I stayed on the 19th floor overlooking Bellagio and you could hear every word (among other things) from next door rooms, along with every flush and a loud whining whenever anyone in our wing took a shower. However, the hotel is a beautiful place, the buffet was great, the rooms are very nice (considering the reasonable rates), the casino was very generous to me, and the location on the strip cannot be beat. The hotel is laid out perfectly no matter what youre here for. The 1$ slots were very loose ($1500.00 jackpot on 5 times pay) within 1 hour of check-in...yeah...Other than the plumbing and thin-wall issue, my only complaint was due to where pool is positioned, you cant get any sun until after 2:00 pm or so...However, I got everything I expected from an average $59.00 per night hotel, including some great slot action...if your expectations arent that high, then stay here, its a great place, but if you do have high expectations, stay next door at Bellagio.. <Jmako00 -at- aol.com> - St Petersburg FL USA - Added 03/17/03 - [152.163.188***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 03/03 - Undecided First off, let me say I will only stay here again in the rate is really good. Other than that, never again. At the last minute I changed my reservations from The Orleans to the Monte Carlo after I got an email saying they had $49 rooms. When we arrived, the desk clerk told me I had reservations for THREE rooms! She cancelled 2 of them (I sure hope they don't appear on my credit card) and because of it being only 10 AM, told me to come back at 3 PM and my king room should be ready. We proceeded to go have lunch and bum around until 3:00. When I came back at 3 PM, they told me my room was not ready - to check back in 1 or 2 hours! I was really tired of this and told them I wanted a room immediately. I had to settle for 2 queen beds. The hotel wasn't even crowded during my stay, I don't see how they couldn't have just 1 king room ready! The blankets on the beds had holes in them, as well as the towels in the bathroom. Contrary to other complaints on this board, I didn't hear any noise from the adjoining rooms, probably because the hotel was pretty much empty during my stay. The one memorable thing from the room is that the toilet flushes like no other! It has a Flushmate pressurized canister inside the tank, and if you don't watch out, you'll get sucked down the toilet. I wasn't impressed with the location of the Monte Carlo, in my opinion, the entire area north between the MC and Bellagio and the other side of the street between MGM Grand and the Aladin needs to be demolished. Between the porn slappers and timeshare hawkers these people drove me nuts. Thank God for the tram that runs between MC and Bellagio. Checkout time at the Monte is 11 AM where most hotels is noon. The Street of Dreams shops are useless. They gave me a small coupon book at check-in but you had to spend a minimum of $100 to use the coupons. The food court has a good bagel shop, a Nathan's hot dog place and McDonalds. I didn't care for the casino, even though it is easy to navigate. I saw only 1 bank of 25 cent Wheel of Fortune machines. Upon check-out at 11 AM I needed to store my luggage at the bell desk. I had to wait in a line that took an hour just to store my luggage. Hopefully if you decide to stay at the Monte Carlo, your stay will be better than mine. <crxlover88 -at- juno.com> - Indianapolis IN USA - Added 03/18/03 - [152.163.188***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 03/03 It was the first time I have stayed at the Monte Carlo it is a nice Hotel, it was the first hotel I have stayed at that you did not need an alarm clock. I personally thought the hotel/casino was outstanding. If you are looking for a hotel/casino with a high rollers look, this is definitely the place (at least for the time we went). It is my understanding that they have gone up in rates a bit, but not near as much as it would cost to stay in a place like the Beligio, Caesar’s Palace, or Mandalay Bay. The rooms are very nice and spacious. The staff is more than friendly and the atmosphere gives you the feeling of being somewhat important. I didn’t eat at the restaurants in the casino; however I did see the prices (a little bit rich for my blood). The pool is beautiful with a lazy river. The only thing I have to complain about is the temperature. It seemed that the heater in the casino was turned up on “boil.” This made it very uncomfortable to gamble for long periods, which made me seek gambling shelter elsewhere. Overall, I give this casino/hotel a big thumbs up. This was a guy trip to check out a new hotel, to see if the wife would like it for our Vegas trip in March. The floor plan is simple, follow the lines on the carpet. Cocktail waitresses WOW! staff friendly, dealers friendly, But since I have good table etiquette, know basic BJ strategy and don't blame the dealers for my run of bad cards, I always seem to have dealers that are friendly and treat me respectful. Casino, Usual table games, $25.00 a hand to be rated for BJ. V Poker, jacks or better pay scale 8 to 5 or 9 to 5, good variety of other VP games. Slots, good variety nickels on up, I didn't find any broken machines, or sticky buttons but they seemed a little tight to me, 35 spins before I got a cherry. keno lounge is small, sports book OK. Card room OK. Lobby clean, elevators fast. Only the adult pool area was open. It looks fine for the wife, she is the queen of the all day pool sitters. Exercise room OK $22. Manicure for men $30. Coffee shop, on day one, for breakfast, I had oatmeal, small oj and coffee $9.50 plus tip, to me that's over priced. The breakfast buffet $10 good, dinner buffet $15 good. Micro brewery, burger OK, beer great $10. I didn't eat in any other restaurants I felt they were over priced. They also have a food court at double the prices of your local mall. Lounge, small, with big comfy chairs where people can sit and have a relaxing, drink, Mom would like it. Shopping, nothing special maybe 10 stores. Tram to the Bellagio. The rooms, were like most deluxe Vegas rooms, nothing special. I was expecting more because of what they charge for a room. The rooms were clean, with iron and hair dryer, no in room safe, you get a free box in the lobby. Housekeeping did their job, No noise from the rooms next to me, but when you only spend 6 hours in the room sleeping you don't hear much. Good water pressure, since I don't hang out in the bathroom I didn't hear other peoples plumbing. The hotel, claims to be up scale. This hotel is not a Holiday Inn, more like a Hilton trying to catch the European laid back relaxed theme. For my tastes It's too laid back, no free acts or cheep shows to give you a break from gambling. I got the feeling the hotel was saying if you want a gambling break, sit in your room or leave the hotel. Comps were good but I felt like I had to beg for them. Being a 28 year veteran of Vegas, I have stayed in 15 different hotels, between and including the Luxor up to Circus Circus. this hotel is nice, it's a step up from Treasure and Flamingo but the Flamingo is more fun. In my opinion which doesn't count, I think this hotel is for the once a year tourists on vacation that doesn't mind overpaying a little. I will go back with the wife, and let her decide. If she complains the lazy river is too short I'll tell her to go around 2 or 3 times. <ts1495 -at- aol.com> - IL USA - Added 12/14/02 - [205.188.208.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 12/02 - Bad Visit Ok - I'll be quick - Have stayed there a couple of times before, the one trip before this last one (last month), the rooms were dirty so we were given an upgrade to a suite for our return trip. Anyways to add insult to injury we remembered on the way into the lobby that we had left money in the console of the truck, it was then that we decided to make sure we checked for it when we got the car back from the valet. To our surprise the money was gone! After filing a report I talked to a Lakisha Robinson who then stated that since I have no evidence that nothing could be done. She wouldn't even acknowledge that a closer look needs to be taken at their staff. She wasn't compassionate or apologetic, but instead rather quite rude . I cannot understand the comment that this is a Holiday Inn with fancy wallpaper. Does Holiday Inn offer a wave pool, lazy river ride, opulent casino, Lance Burton, and elegant surroundings. Most certainly not. The rooms are not Bellagio or Venetian caliber, but they are much nicer than some of the other hotels on the strip (namely Excalibur, Stratosphere, Circus Circus). I have never noticed any noise in my room as some other people have noted. Also, the pool is wonderful. It is a scaled down version of the Mandalay Bay pool area. For $59 a night, you should not have Bellagio expectations. This hotel is a luxury resort for working people that cannot afford Bellagio or Venetian. I honestly think that people that rate the Monte Carlo as being poor have to high of expectations. Remember what you are paying for your room. We asked if we could get a room with a view of the strip - Not a problem, not a hassel, the reservationist just did it. I'm uncomfortable giving a tip for a better room or paying for an upgrade, so that was nice that I didn't need that to upgrade. The food was good here. Buffet was good. Their little family style restaurant the Cafe was very good - we ate there when we first got in and the service was kinda slow int he beginning, but then there was a shift change of bus people while we were there and then service really picked up. Pool I have to disagree with those who said it wasn't nice. It was VERY nice. Mom doesn't swim so we went into the lazy river and the wave pool. Yes, the lazy river could have been longer, but it was very nice. The wave pool was really nice too. Because the sun takes a while to get all the way up to the sky, the pool is a little shaded in the morning, but by 12:00 the sun is shining on the pools. We did win in our hotel a little (nothing big, played quarter poker and got a little back to play with - I did chance it on my last day and played $1 slot - got $120 win on $1 so that was nice.) We were there over Friday night into Satruday and Friday it's like a zoo in Vegas. Everyplace is crowded and machines get tighter to win. Excellent Visit. We paid from Monday thru Saturday our hotel bill was about $465. Not bad for a nicer hotel towards the nicer end of the strip. It's a little farther down than we refer, we like the location of the Mirage, but with the tram from MGM to Ballys (which is right across the street) it was easy to get towards the middle. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Everyone we ran into (with the exception of the first night at the cafe) was Extremely nice and overly helpful. Would definately stay here again. I was still in a great mood, looking forward to my Vegas vacation, so I didn't let that get me down. After all, how much time do you spend in the room? When we got to our room (11th floor with a lovely view of the parking garage) I discovered the first problem. The bathroom was filthy to the point where there was mold in the shower. I quickly called the front desk and alerted them to the problem, where they rudely informed me that they were overbooked an I was lucky to get a room at all. Other than the mold problem the room was decent. Just your basic hotel room, nothing ecxiting or unique to talk about. The bed was very comfortable, and the rest of the room was clean enough. I just couldn't get over the fact that they didn't care that the bathroom had a lovely patch of mold growing in it. I will never stay here again, as our problems continued in the casino (which will go in another review). This is probably one of the nicest casinos in town with a lot of conveniencies. It's got a great location on the strip, you don't have to walk through the casino to get to the check-in counter or to the elevators, certain elevators are dedicated to certain floors (so there is little wait) and during check in you have a great view of the pool area. The check-in line moved a little slow but the gentleman at the desk was very professional and pleasant. We did run into a few rude people(one working in a restaurant and the other checking our baggage). We did not experience the loud water pipes that others have complained of nor did we witness "paper thin walls", but we did have a maid shut off our A.C. when she cleaned our room in the middle of a heat wave. We had a room facing the strip high in the hotel with a great view. The pool area was "good" but overcrowded and service in the micro-brew was a bit slow. Overall this is a very classy casino to gamble in and would stay here again. <blazingsevens -at- cs.com> - Mansfield O USA - Added 02/17/03 - [152.163.204.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/02 - Good Visit We had an excellent stay at the Monte Carlo. Location is great and our view from the 31st floor was wonderful. We could see the Bellagio lake and enjoyed the views of the strip at night. For the price you cannot beat the service and the comfortable rooms. We had an easy check in 3+ hours before actual check in time and the express check out from our room was an easy way to leave. Our room was clean every day when we returned from our morning breakfast/sightseeing. Soaps & lotions are a good quality. Very luck in the casino blackjack machines. Went next door to the Boardwalk for tablegames as the dealers are very down to earth and fun. Didn't go to the pool but it looked really nice from the tram. Would stay again and again... <suzy321 -at- earthlink.net> - IN USA - Added 07/21/02 - [209.183.116.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/02 - Good Visit The wife and I were a little leary about the Monte Carlo from some of the other comments below. But are very happy to say that we had a very good 4 night stay there. We did have a room with a great view, and it was a very satisfactory room to stay in. Didn't have any problems with noise or anything like that. It is very easy to navigate to the lobby and all the other ammenities that the hotel has to offer. Unlike many other hotels on the strip. You don't have to go through the casino if you don't want to. Not that it is kid friendly. Personally don't think there should be little kids in Vegas... But it is set up to seperate the kids from the adults. You have to eat at the Monte Carlo Pub and Resteraunt. Best value for quality food. And great Beer of course. The pool is small, but clean. Lots of area to sun and relax though. Can't say much about the casino, we won, and we lost. But had alot of fun doing it! Overall, the wife and I would stay here again. Location is the best. <millbnd -at- earthlink.net> - USA - Added 07/27/02 - [63.187.23***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/02 - Good Visit My girlfriend and I stayed here for her b-day really not knowing what to expect. I booked a Monaco Suite for this occasion, and when we arrived, I wasnt impressed. It had a large combined living and bedroom, with a half bath by the door, and a larger full bath with a shower/whirpool tub combined. My gripe is that the tub is way too small for two people, unlike the tub last year in Treasure Island. Anyways, the day we arrived after check in, we ate at the MC Brewery, great food, service and beer. When we were walking out, we noticed Street Smarts(TV game show)was being taped. Although we were never picked to participate, it was fun to watch, and we did see Lance Burton being interviewed. That night we ate at the Market City italian restaurant, and again the food and service was great. After, we went to Venetian C2K dance club @ about 11pm and nobody was there, so we went to the V Bar next to the club. Great atmosphere very contemporary, new age kind of feel. We went back to C2K at about 12:30pm, and still nobody there, so we left. So we went to Studio 54 in the MGM, and let me tell you, this is one of the best dance clubs in Vegas. Two levels, 4 bars ample dance space and a great mix of music. The next day we went to some of the shopping areas, Caesars and Venetian in the afternoon, and that night we saw "O" at the Bellagio. Expensive yes(121.00pp) but it was well worth it and not to be missed. After the show we ate at the Cafe at Monte Carlo @ about 9:30pm. Seating took forever, and the service was VERY slow. From the time we sat down till a person took our drink order was about 20min, then to order another 10 min and about 15 min for our food to come. Plus the food was anything to rave about. After dinner we went to the Shadow Bar in Caesars, cool place with females dancing behind a back lit screen, casting a shadow, hence the name Shadow Bar, limited seating however. After that we went to Coyote Ugly inside NY NY, and as in the movie it is themed after, the girl bartenders are hard-ass'd dancing singing freaks, but very good looking. This was a very happening place, too crowded more like it, but worth it. We left there about 2am and headed over too Light in Bellagio, and like the hotel, it reaks of money, from the decor to the sound system, to the bar and the drinks, everything and everybody is pure money. The next day we went shopping @ Aladdin all afternoon, and went to Kokomo's @ The Mirage. Very fine and expensive dining, but the service, food and ambiance make up for it. After that we went back to the Aladdin to go to Curve dance club. Never saw the inside because first of all you wait in line to go into the London Club, which i guess is a high limit gambling area with a couple of over priced bars. Then you have to wait in line again to enter the club. Since we spent about 45 min in the first line, we werent about to wait in the 2nd line which was two times longer to get into the club, so we went back to Studio 54. Our 4th and final day we checked out about 1pm, and since our flight departed @ 7pm we had some to kill, so we went to Mandalay Bay and ate at the Border Grill for lunch, excellent mexican food, but if your looking for americanized mex, sorry, this is pretty authentic. Then we viewed the Shark Reef, awesome to see alligators, piranas, jelly fish, and sharks up close. After that we went to Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden. There they have a dolphin habitat, and then in the back there are exotic animals such as african elephants, all types of tigers, leopards, very cool. Overall our trip was excellent. <insmniac_623 -at- hotmail.com> - Peoria AZ USA - Added 07/29/02 - [65.104.57.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 07/02 - Good Visit My husband stayed here for the first time this past July. I am torn, because I did enjoy the location and price I got the room for. The parking structure, rooms and pool are very nicely situated. The pool was nice, but the lack of attention of staff made it a bad experience. It was like 300 degrees and everyone was at the pool. You are supposed to check in on a sheet as you enter so you can return your towel. But the staff seemed to care less. The importance...half the chairs had towels with no people (we saw many people leave without taking there towels) thus limiting where people could sit. A little care could have made a much better experience. Nothing fancy, but the food is good at a reasonable price. The best part of the casino is the Race and Sportsbook. It's comfortable if not plush. The tellers are helpful and courteous. The day-shift cocktail server, Miss Becki, is exceptionally nice. She remembers what my wife and I like to drink from visit to visit. The tram to Bellagio saves the location of Monte Carlo. Regarding the recreational amenities, we spent much of our pool time in the very relaxing Easy River Ride. The wave pool is also pretty nice but a little bit too small. We were disappointed at the spa. Although the staffs were friendly, the facilities and ambiance of the spa were just much inferior than other Vegas hotels and resorts. The casino was ok. We finally get into our room and like other comments below, we could hear everything next door. I mean just a conversation the people were having you could hear. Well this makes people very self concious about intimate actions between husband and wife if you know what I mean. The casino is funtional, but very limited games (no 3 card poker). ANd the rating system for getting comps is rediculous! When I got my card they told me I needed to AVERAGE $25 a hand to even get rated. That is horrible considering a much nicer place like the Venetian will rate at $5 a hand. Slots were fairly tight. Never even saw a hand pay once.
