Best Western Mardi Gras Inn

Date Visited: 09/02 - Undecided
The room was clean but dark and needed extra coat hangers to accommodate the smallest of wardrobes. It is well situated from amenities and the Strip which meant that the saving in accommodation costs was taken up with taxi fares. The lobby staff and cleaning staff were pleasant however the experience of 'the free continental breakfast' hostesses was something else. Each morning you had to 'sign in' and were subjected to a maximum of 15 minutes in the somewhat small facility (Dining Room would be too elaborate a description) This room was supervised by a hostess who on one occasion actually told a customer off for trying to take an extra portion of fruit, completely not the 'Las Vegas' way. The other hostess was just as fierce making the 'experience' one of dread. This hotel (more of a motel really) is uniques in offering a 'free' breakfast - but it advertises this and is part of why customer's select - it should not be viewed as an overwhelming luxury - quite the contrary. Trying to cash a traveller's cheque in the tiny Casino was met with disdain and a lot of sighing - even though I was a guest there. I was amused that the hotel hold meetings there for local organisations etc., however the roof sunbathing area is closed for guests should such a meeting take place to avoid noise penetrating below. Others who had been to Vegas before, but had had a last minute (hotel not advised until arrival) were
soon to arrange for another hotel at extra expenses and stated that if it had been there first introduction to Las Vegas, they might not have returned.

Overall Ls Vegas (The Strip etc) was Great - but the accommodation/service was more representative of the Bed and Breakfast places in Blackpool during the 1960s - only the breakfast hostesses were more fearsome than the Blackpool landladies of that time.
