I don't care that you have to take a taxi there, it's worth it. The place is fun fun fun. It is laid back, some very funky stores that are not the same as the ones in every single hotel. Every restaurant is good and open all kinds of hours. The attractions are always good. I have to say the staff of the Rio go out of their way to be friendly and positive.
Penn & Teller were awesome.

My 3rd time staying and I get free rooms. But the casino slots are too tight.
Housekeeping is sloppy, rooms shown signs of aging. Carnival Buffet was just ok.

The rooms are huge! Some look a bit dated, but Rio has comped me many, many times in the past
few years. I return because they invite back, over and over again. The sportsbook is okay, but I
don't like the fact you have to get drink tickets and you get only one ticket per $100 bet. I like
the bikini clad dealers when Bikinis is open. I haven't been to the Spa for nearly a year and the
reason I haven't been is because the workout area is gender separate. If you rent a car, the Rio is
central to many places of interest. Showgirls is a decent show. The three female singers are
beautiful, yet very talented! It helped that I was comped. The regular buffet is fair at best. The
seafood buffet is good. The pool is quite nice. Of course, I like Mandalay Beach and the pool @
Bellagio much better, but beggars can't be choosey. All and all, I feel comfortable @ the Rio.

This hotel was awesome! The rooms were great, the pool area was nice. They always had towels, chairs, and hot tubs. Nice sandy, beach area. The buffet is great. The clubs, especially the Voodoo Lounge were fun. All of the restaurants were good. The shuttle to Harrah's was awesome, saved alot of cab fare. It was overall a very nice hotel.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and really liked it. Location could be a problem with no car, but we rented on. The pool area is nice. No problem getting a chair. The room was very large and the maid service was fine. The employees here are awesome! Everyone we talked to was so nice to us, we would definitly stay here again.

The Rio used to be my favorite resort in Vegas. I've probably stayed there 20 times in the last 10 years. Its still a value for the money I guess, and if you are young, drunk and wild, you can have a great time. This Bevertainment thing with the singing wait staff is cute for five minutes but if you like to play slots or video poker for any extended period of time it is very annoying. The place is earsplittingly loud almost all day and night.
I will say that the newly redecorated rooms on the "old side" are very nice.
The quality of the staff has been hit and miss there for several years. They were uniformly great at first, but they are now overwhelmingly indifferent to simple reasonable requests, like a key that works. On a recent visit I discovered my key didn't work after I checked in. I called down to the desk and was told I would have to come back to get another key. I did, and that key didn't work either. This time I called from the house phone and insisted that they send someone up to help me. I waited outside the room for almost a half hour. Finally a security guard approached, looked at me, told me he would be right with me, then he got on a house phone to make dinner plans with someone. They gossiped for a while and he finally sauntered over to the room almost 10 minutes later. He used his master key to open the door and claimed it was fine. I suggested he try mine. He resisted. I insisted. He did. It didn't work. He told me I had to go back to the front desk and get another key, and he left. Platinum check in has improved over the last few years--for awhile they were shockingly rude and unhelpful. Sometimes my room wouldn't be ready for hours after "check-in" which I consider a ploy to suck money from you before you can unpack and change. The spa is nice once inside, but it smells funny from the outside which is a big turn off. The food quality, except for the real high end restaurants has gone way down hill. The pool looks like fun but is actually very difficult to negotiate on an ordinary weekend.
To top it off the slots are getting really tight. I get free room offers from them frequently through rewards club, but after my last visit, I am done with them and now throw away the comps. If I am going to lose all that money I at least expect to be treated like a guest and not a bother.

The Rio is festive, moreso than Harrah's over at the Strip. Check in is a breeze (maybe because they have separate lines for platinum/diamond), and the service is excellent. The rooms are just plain sick....as in sickly awesome. floor to ceiling windows, couches, large TV and nice bathrooms make the "suite" worth every penny (even if I didn't pay for it).

The Casino, well, let's just say I prefer playing at Harrah's. Table minimums are normally in the $25 range. The slot selection ISN'T as good as Harrah's, and they tend to be fairly tight (compared to Harrah's at least). I only hit about 2-3 handpays on the nickel slots on my visit.

The service, though, like most Harrah's properties, is excellent. Slot service is quick, and the food services are good. I have no qualms just sitting and staring at the skimpy, sexy, hot-mamas that walk by....

There's also a lot of other things to do as well for the young crowd. Bikini's is a happenin place, and the voodoo lounge is excellent. Shopping is also fairly good, although there are outlet stores up and down I-15. Also, the Palms is a nice walk away and there are also shuttles to Harrah's on the strip readily accessible.

I recommend the Rio for the rooms and services, but as a casino, there are better ones out there..

My wife & I stayed at the the Rio over a weekend. We checked in on Friday afternoon without delay. We found the rooms huge, and the furniture and bed
comfortable. We played very little in the casino, so we really can't say too much about the games/slots there. The buffet lines tend to be a bit long,
but the buffet was very good. Lots of a younger (under 30) crowd likes this
place, with nightclubs and bars catering to partyers. If you want to go to the strip, there is a shuttle to Harrahs every 15 minutes or so. Catch the free
Masquerade in the Sky show. even though we don't fall into the "under 30" group, we would stay at the Rio again.

We arrived Sunday 9am, left Tuesday about 3pm. The staff in general is very friendly and helpful.

Someone else said the ?room is huge but not really a suite.? I'd gree with that. The view from the large windows was terrific. The room itself was not well-lit at all. A few lamps here and there that did not seem to go up to 90 watts. That was a problem in the evening when trying to get ready for appointments, or get things done before going out.

"Toll free" calls had what seemed like a hefty fee, but it's been a while since we've been in Vegas, so all hotels might operate like this now. We decided to use a cell phone in one instance and a pay phone downstairs in another rather than a calling card and an 800 number due to their fees.

Not sure what was going on with the little window between the shower and the room itself. Do all of the rooms have that?

There was a lot of trouble with our keys being programmed incorrectly so we could not get into or back into our rooms. It stopped being funny the third time we had to stand in line and ask them to fix the keys. This was also the most trouble I ever had in a hotel as a woman alone going up to my room in an elevator. Twice I had trouble with excessively drunk, pushy men. Next time, I'll be extra careful to go in elevators alone or with people I know.

My friend sat on the large L-shaped couch in just the wrong spot and hit the hard wooden frame and mentioned feeling the memory of that experience for the rest of the trip. We tried their on-television Internet access and were not impressed. The text was too light to read, the web pages too cramped [not like you'd see them on a computer monitor], not at all useable nor worth the $10 fee.

The casino is quite loud, but we could find areas where it was less so. The Masquerade in the Sky is really fun to watch and we both thought we might participate sometime in the future. It attracts a lot of people, and each time we go, they seem to have added something to the show.

The only machines with blackjack were at bars and the out-of-the way, isolated ones (in the Masquerade Village) didn?t seem to have ?help lights? to push for slot attendants so you were on your own when something went wrong.

I appreciated the free shuttle to and from Harrah's.

There were usually double duty waiters at the restaurant Sao Paulo (you'd give your drink order and then someone else came asking for your drink order again), but very slow every time we were there. We went to see the very enjoyable Penn & Teller show and visited this restaurant a few different times.

I didn?t go, but my travel companion went to the seafood buffet and said it was pricey but very good.

We both had very bad luck with slots and poker machines. I found no blackjack tables with minimums under $10 and that was rare, though table games other than ?21? saw some $5 minimum.

Too loud and tight. I used to like the quiet area but now they have loud performances every 10 mins. machines too tight and the table mins are high. I'll go for the lower key spots. Last trip I usually crossed over to the gold Coast or the Palms to play. Much better payouts there.

Tried to pools in August and the slime layer from all the suntan lotion was totally disgusting.

If you are 21-35 you might like it.. needless to say, though i act 25 it ain't for me

Look the Rio has a nice buffet and a great pool. All the rooms are suites with plenty of room. Now what did it for me was that the service just doesn't care if you are there or not. They have change so much since the Harrahs as taken over. The valet is slow, sorry very slow. The tables are for the higher roller types. Even if you betting $25 per hand they treat you like your on a $1 table. Never again, until someone else buys this place out will I return again.

The room was nice, but the casino was full of kids and the security seemed pretty lax, considering the fact that I'd looked up more than once to see a kid watching me play video poker. That should never happen in a casino and I don't understand why anyone would turn their children loose to play in one, especially when there are plenty of appropriate family options in Las Vegas. The casino in general did not impress me. The cocktail service was practically nonexistent. The buffet that I'd heard so many great things about had mediocre-to-decent food options, but unfortunately, my husband, friends and I all got sick after eating at said buffet. Because the room was pretty nice and because they often have good deals, I'd give the Rio a second chance. I hope that by now, they have done something to discourage people from letting their kids play and hang out in the casino, if not for their customers's sake, then at least for the sake of their gaming license.

Everyghing about the Rio is big. The room was massive. There is a sizeable couch, two sink areas in the bathroom and a refrigerator. The bed mattress could use improvement. The pool area is gigantic. There is a free shuttle to and from the strip. Club Rio is great for meeting people of the opposite sex. Surprisingly, there were a lot of kids staying there. Rio is not conducive for children. Circus Circus, Excalibur, Luxor, Stratosphere and Sahara are much better for children.

CAUTION: This place is great if you are between 21 and 35 years old. Heavy emphasis on the younger crowd. Casino is very tight and will suck the money from your wallet (they have to pay for all the free entertainment somehow). Room is huge but not really a suite. Fantastic floor to ceiling windows and great view. Great shows and awesome bars/nightclubs for younger folks under 35.
Older folks should stay elsewhere.

Once again, for the 5th time in the past 4 years the Rio has given us everything we could ever ask for in a hotel and much more. Our early flight from the East Coast arrived in LV at 10:30 AM - by 11:45 we were in our room, bags unpacked and headed for the pool! WOW! - The view we had this time from the Ipanema Tower (smaller building) 13th floor gave us a great look at everything from Downtown to Mandalay Bay - being away from the strip gives you a much more panoramic view of everything.

The pools were great. We saw the Scintas for the second time (comped, as was the room for two nights) and they were great - maybe even better than the first time. The casino was okay - not the greatest selection of slots, but adequate.
Unfortunately, the Carnival World Buffet seems to have gone downhill, as many other raters have suggested. The Sao Paulo Cafe has great food for the money, and wonderful service as well. If you want real food bargains, just walk across the street to Gold Coast.

We are to a point where we don't even have any interest in going to the strip, unless it is to go to a particular show or restaurant - it's gotten to be so tacky, hot and stinky - The Rio is like its own haven away from the craziness, yet it has its own upbeat, party atmosphere. So don't let the location be a negative - besides you can get to the strip via the Rio shuttle very easily & you don't have to fight the traffic in the process.

Our biggest problem now is figuring out how soon we can go back...Thank You Rio

We've stayed at the Rio many times and always had a blast. They have redone some of the pool area making it better suited for everyone. The Bevertainers (cocktail waiters and waitresses that also perform) were interesting but we noticed that the beverage service was impacted slightly by this although the added entertainment in different parts of the casino was a nice change. Usually you have to be in the Masquerade Village to see any kind of entertainment but with the Bevertainers, pretty much anywhere in the casino has a mini-show.

Rooms are excellent and huge, although we were on the 4th floor and our only view was the roof of the casino. Buffet lines were always very long. Prices at the other restaurants seemed alittle steep, so we ate most of our meals next door at the Gold Coast's Monterey Room and at the Orleans' Courtyard Cafe. Had some luck with their slots and my wife had some luck with keno at the Rio. The only down side was a 2½ hour wait for our room. The employees were friendly and helpful.

We first stayed at the Rio in January 2000 and have been back many times since (visit 2-3 times per year). Accommodations are always wonderful and so is service. As for dining we particularly enjoy the Carnival Buffet and All American Bar and Grill - great casual dining. Scintas are a must see - and Penn & Teller are good, too. Great place, fun atmosphere - recommend to all.

Had a great time / ate at Carnival Cafe & San Paulo , both were good.
Service was super / friendly cashiers . I went over the payoff limits on 3 different machines and my longest wait for an attendant was 5 min. Very FAST!!
I have stayed at MGM & Venetian in the past and this place was alot better value , Although the Venetian's rooms are better but then for twice the price they should be. I think it is a great value and I will return...

Our first stay at the Rio but not our last. We had reserved a standard suite with no upgrades (ie view) with a king size bed. The room wasn't ready when we arrived (early), so they upgraded us to a Strip-view suite with queen beds. Very Nice! Staff was the freindliest I've come across in a long time, from parking valet to check-in to rewards club staff. "Parade In The Sky" attraction alone is worth a trip to the Rio. Would gladly stay again.

we have stayed at the rio many times since its inception and when it was independantly owned it was a great place to stay and play. we eventually became vip players and the host dept was the greatest...great comps etc....then for some reason the rio decided to opt for high rollers and everything started to tighten up including comps and machines then they decided to add the "parade in the sky" what a mistake this was...we we're actually invited for their vip grand opening of this event WOW were we disapointed too big too loud too everything (please let this be temporary) it wasn't so eventually we moved on to other casinos....then the worst happened Harrahs Corp. bought it and of course we were on Harrahs VIP list and was invited back!!!!! so what the heck we thought we would give it a try by now Harrahs had owned it for a year or more and i was amazed at what they could do to a casino in that amount of time....the casino was dirty the machines were old the rooms were looking outdated and the gambling payouts were bad plus add the fact of "slow" people everywhere from the change people to cocktails etc etc etc......our last stay there was disgusting would you believe we found 3 used condoms hanging from the lights over the table, one on a picture and of course one in the bathroom....we of course followed this shocking experience up w/the hotel manager of which moved us to another room but i found this so disgusting and creepy that it absolutely ruined our stay....there was no way a maid could have missed these items because they were so exposed in the open...anyway to make a long story short i did write a letter to Harrahs home office after we got home and have never heard from them regarding this matter (maybe your thinking "what could they say" will i think they should have responded w/something!!) we will never stay at the rio again and will think twice before we stay at any Harrahs properties again...if you're looking for great try the venetian its first class and CLEAN!!!!!

The people who have commented about the Rio having VERY TIGHT SLOTS are 100% accurate. I bought 100 $5 tokens and started playing in their high-limit section, I put $300 into a double diamond delux $5 slot and it ONLY HIT 1 CHERRY for the entire $300 played. Seriously, their high limit slots must be set tighter than a rusty bolt on the titanic. I then switched to a 9/6 $5 machine and it did play fair- 40 coins with 5-coin hands being played lasted almost 15mins before the machine hit a cold streak and ate it all.

The hotel is all suite, so if you like big rooms definately stay here. I had a room with a single king- which was spacious, very clean, and had an L-shaped sofa that you could probably put two people on if yah wanted. The TV is HUGE and the channel selection was okay (all the local stations plus a few cable choices and one satelite radio channel that was playing instrumental jazz all night). The room also had an empty refrigerator- which would come in handy if you plan multi-night stays with them. The check-in clerks were extremely helpfull and deifnately ask them for assistance if you need help getting last-minute tickets to a show (they got me 5th-row center seats for Penn & Teller the night I stayed with them).

The table and drink staff were not friendly and slow. I did not have a good time playing any of the table games. They also did not fully-comp drinks at the video poker bars. I played at the Martini Bar and was playing $1 video poker with a 5-coin bet and the bartender charged me $7.50 for a Belvedere Cosmopolitan and then reduced the price to $4.50 with a "bar comp dicount". I then switched to a bacardi n coke and the bastard still charged me a $1.50 for it. That is very lame only giving a discont and not a 100% comp for a cocktail. Because of this and the tight machines I would give the casino part of their property a "zero" (the 1 they got on here is too generous).

The voodoo lounge was neat- try the witchdoctor cocktail if you check it out- and the view from up there was outstanding.

Visited on January 23-24, 2003 and enjoyed another great visit. Rooms, food, atmosphere and employees are still excellent. I truly love every thing the Rio has to offer. Ratings on this site seem to have dropped but not in my opinion.

Points under the Harrahs system do seem a little harder to accumulate, especially if you play video poker. Harrahs has a new property here in SD County but it is funky with VP machines that tell you what to hold...strange.

I've had lots of fun and good luck at the Rio over the years and it will continue to be my place of choice when visiting Las Vegas. I say give it a try and enjoy.

Good value for the money. If you are looking for very spacious room, very clean, modern furniture, marble bathroom, 32 inch tv, king bed, desk, bed seat, glass coffee table and around 600 sq ft total in room space. The world carnival buffet, I see why its the most popular in vegas, just outstanding. The shuttle bus to the strip was available everytime we used it. No wait at all for it. Slot machines were loose and the parades in the casino were fun. Live entertainment is nice there as well. I would recomend this place to anyone thinking about visiting vegas. Trust me, being located on the strip is overated. You can stay here and do anything you want as if you were located on the strip.

first a word on the location, it is well off strip but has very easy freeway access, making it a breeze to get around town if you have a car. It's also a piece of cake to set off to the strip. Ingress and egress to and from the hotel and valet area is a snap. This property has everything, so for those of you who like to stay put this is a great place. The rio excels in customer service, all the employees are personable, well trained and respectful. The entire staff at the hotel is prompt and efficient, my waits for valet, bellhops, check in&out, etc., were the shortest I've encountered It's a tight ship, I stayed on the 38th floor of the masquerade tower and never waited for an elevator more than 90 seconds. The food is consistently high quality. The rooms themselves are among the finest in town, and compare favorably even to the plush Bellagio (larger but slightly less well appointed). For value in rooms the Rio is at the top of the heep. Housekeeping was flawless.
Some anecdotes on my visit.
I got an internet rate, and on check in was given an upgrade at the front desk to a higher floor. It was still "mountain view", so I introduced myself to casino services and they upgraded me to the 38th floor overlooking the pool and a "strip view". Definitely one of premium rooms at the property, but this moving around was hardly worth it. The view of the strip aint that great and all the rooms are pretty similiar. Whenever I'm in town I've always made a visit to the village seafood buffet, at $35/head it's the most expensive in town. I'm getting played out on it, and on this trip found "world buffet" at $17/head a much better value and it had alot of the same stuff that the more expensive buffet had. The coffee shop also serves very good food, but it is pricey for a coffee shop. The specialty there is a rotissierie chicken which uses a hardwood fire might be the best chicken I've ever had. Food throughout the hotel is very flavorful (sometime heavily spiced) and not for midwestern palates into comfort food.
When in town I make a daily visit to the spa, and while the workout room could be better equipped, the steam room, sauna and whirlpools are state of the art. The attendants are very attentive, and unlike most other hotels they give you one of those expensive robes to lounge around in.
This year alone, I've stayed at the Orleans, LV Hilton, Ballys, Bellagio, and the Monte Carlo. My experience at the Rio was the most fun overall. I'm not suggesting the Rio is the best hotel. The Bellagio (for instance) is much more refined, but the service and rooms at the rio are comparable at roughly 1/3 the price. It's one of the great values in town, and has a fun factor and flair that most of the other simply do not have.
We stayed again 5/8-5/12 and the RIO coninues to impress. We visited alot of other casinos on the trip, and with all the construction in town, despite the RIOs off strip location it's the easiest hotel to get in and out of in town. In my mind the RIO is the place the for mid roller who wants to be treated like a high roller and plays table games at the green chip level. It is not good for the low roller nickle slot player or those looking for less than $5 limits at the tables. Or those looking for cheap food. The clientele is mostly young and hip with lots to do if you're young at heart.

Stayed here over christmas break. Great room very clean, Tipping will always get you the extras no matter where you are in the hotel.Concierge hooked us up after a nice tip. Pick the show and seats you want by doing so. Seafood buffet is always great. Waited about 30 minutes on line, but was well worth it.

This was the frst time I had stayed at the Rio. I found the rooms to be a good value - the suites are comfortable and large. Check-in and check-out were a breeze and the desk staff were very good and quite personable. I really value customer service and on this point the Rio staff met and often exceeded my expectations. The casino was average and I saw no big winners during my stay. The Rio buffet is a good value for the money and is convenient if you are spending a lot of time at the hotel. The downside for me is the Rio's off strip location although the hotel runs a shuttle every 15 minutes to Harrahs on the strip.

Great rooms and appreciated the "free shuttle" to Harrah's. Service was good, but a little expensive for our taste. Would consider returning if we had discounted rooms!

I have stayed at the Rio on three occasions this fall.
I think the rooms are the best standard hotel rooms in tht city.
I like the fact that you have a small suite no matter what room you get.
The carnival court buffet is amazing. The variety of food and the variety of foods that are prepared while you wait is outstanding.
The Dance show that is put on in the Mardi Gras court is well done. It is easily the best free show in Vegas. The dancing is much better than in some of the expensive shows. The energy of the young performers is amazing

The staff at the Rio has always been very helpful. They make your stay very enjoyable.

Was a great room with L-shaped couch, 32" tv, dressing area, refrig, 2 sinks, small table w/2 chairs. Room clean and spacious. Valet service speedy and respectful. We ordered room service (about $30 apiece for 2 steaks). It was delivered within a half hour. Fantastic meal - order potato instead of rice (unless you like bland-tasting rice pilaf). Prime rib and filet were excellent and served hot.

Craps and blackjack minimums $10 + so we gambled elsewhere.

All American Bar & Grill at Rio served us two delicious 1/2 lb hamburgers with the fixings & fries and even though $7.99 sounds steep, I'd go back and pay it again. I heard the lines for the Carnival Buffet and Village Seafood Buffet were long & up to two hour waits so we didn't even try. We did go to the Buzio Seafood restaurant & the salmon was good but I didn't care for the shrimp scampi linguini (shrimp was okay but even adding salt & pepper didn't improve the blandness of the linguini). The Ipaneda Bar had two-person music which I did enjoy but the waitress was too busy flirting and talking to the bartender to be concerned about returning quickly with our drinks. Her terrible service was reflected in our leaving NO tip.

I spent the majority of my biannual trip to sin city in october at the rio. After a first night disaster with Hard Rock, My friend and I wearly made our way over to the rio. From the moment I walked into the lobby till the day we checked out, It was total professionalism and perfection. The front desk was both very friendly and attentive, especially since they let us check in early without any bad attitudes or sarcasm(take THAT hard rock). Our suite was total greatness(no bad odors, spotless bathroom and plenty of clean towels) and we received nothing but politeness and respect from the whole staff. I ordered room service on friday afternoon and my food was brought to my room in less than 30 mins. My friend and I caught Penn & Teller that night and it was worth the $65 a ticket we spent.

My only complaint was that we were approached numerous times by time share sales agents. I understand there trying to scratch out a living too but, leave people be after they tell you they're not interested. Dont keep approaching or bothering them after they say "no"

All in all, it was a great experience. I'll be going back to the rio when I head back to sin city in march.

My boyfriend and I stayed 5 nights at the Rio from Sunday to Friday. We usually stay at the Luxor, MGM or Paris. However we were interested in the suites. The room was awesome. So much more room, VERY relaxing sectional sofa, large 32 inch TV, separate dressing area with a sink made it great for both of us to get ready at the same time. The refrigerator came in handy since I had a basket of fruit and cheese delivered to the room. The Masquerade Show was wonderful. I didn't tire of it even though we saw about 7 shows. The buffets were fabulous. Our last night we went to the Voo Doo Cafe on the 50th floor and had a delicious meal in a wonderful, romantic environment. After dinner we walked on the terrace and had the most spectacular view of the entire strip. The shuttle to Harrah's was free and great to get you to the strip. However, we took a cab back to the hotel and it was only about $6.00. The only "down" thing to the hotel was that the casino seemed quite a bit smokier than the other casinos. I know there are lots of smokers and being a non-smoker, that sort of bothered us, but we weren't too disappointed. We also saw Tony 'N Tina's Wedding which was a wonderful night of entertainment. I fully recommend the Rio!

Rio! I like this place...Regualr suite for $65...how can u beat that! Yea the location's not oo good and waiting for the shuttle really sucks...so rent a car if you're staying here. Don't worry valet's free evrywhere in vegas...just tip few bucks when u pick up ur car...anyway...

ROOMS-Big ass rooms! Long ass couch! Cold ass fridge! A window to the shower?!!?! What the?! I was showering one morning and after washing away the shampoo from my eyes, someone took a picture of me through the window in the shower to the bedroom! I think the window's weird...The bed was good. The view towards the strip was nice and floor to ceiling windows were sweet! I really like the fridge for bringing my own beers for the after parties. Small TV for a big room. Overall...ROOMS almost 10!

CASINO-some loose slots. Blackjack tables are crowded and not enough opened ones. I didn't like their casino floor. They have a free mardi gra show and they throw beeds at you. No big deal here...

FOOD/CLUBS-Love their buffets...the expensive seafood buffet is really good but really expensive. I rather have the regular buffet for $12...all differnt types of food served. I almost puked from eating too much. Club Rio was kinda dead on a thursday night but it was fun. I complained about how my toilet didn't flush well and they gave all of us VIP to Club Rio.

SPA/POOL-Nice Pools! I've noticed that many shows on TV use Rio's pool so I guess they like it too...nice bodies everywhere...So workout before you go...The spa was disappointing. Maybe I've been spoiled by Mandalay's but it wasn't great all...

OVERALL-Bad Location but u can always fix that by spending some more money. Value is where it's at with Rio! Most weekdays it's less than $80 for a suite. I would love to go back and check out their bigger suites. Highly recommended!

Our room was fabulous! Decorated in mauves and grays, the room was tasteful and not overpowering. It was classy and very spacious.

There was a big L-shaped couch (that was very comfy) enveloping a nice glass-top coffee table. There were a couple of whats-going-on-in-Las-Vegas magazines there. The TV was pretty big – I’d say at least 32-inches. It sat upon the mini-bar, which had a clear warning about removing its contents. The king sized bed was very comfortable and there were a couple of extra pillows in the closet. There were lamps on both nightstands and another lamp over by the sofa. This was in addition to the light sconce on the wall. There was also a table and two chairs.

In the bathroom’s dressing area, there was a lot of space. A long countertop had two sinks and some toiletries that included soaps, a shower cap, conditioning shampoo and hand lotion. There was a hair dryer in the wall. The far wall was the closet door which doubled as a full-length mirror. Inside the closet there was a safe (very easy to set your own combination. We used it daily and it gave us peace of mind) and nice wooden hangers that actually came off the closet rod. On the other side of the closet, across from the sink counter, there were four deep, dresser-type drawers, and a stool in front of a magnifying, lighted mirror and some more counter space. On top of the drawers, there was a mini-refrigerator (used this a LOT. Nice addition.), two glasses and a pretty small ice bucket.

Set off from the dressing area was the toilet and shower. Again, lots of room in this area. The tub had sliding doors on it (one sleeply morning I rammed my toe into the metal rail. Ouch.) The water pressure was pretty good, although sometimes the toilet didn’t want to flush if you gave it a light touch. Some people have talked about windows in the shower where you can watch TV. Ours didn’t have that. Maybe that’s in the other tower. There was an iron and an ironing board here, also.

The slot were good to us here, although my husband and I were split about the Masquerade in the Sky. I thought it was fun and high engery, but he thought it is was stupid.

Many employees were friendly and helpful.

Overall we really liked the Rio and will definitely be back. My husband actually LIKED that it was off-strip beucase he felt there were less gawkers and people cluttering up the walkways.

The shuttle to Harrah's is convenient and efficient. You would only need a car if traveling away from the city or if you perfer the independence -- a car is not a necessity to visit the strip or downtown (via city bus on the strip).

This was our first trip to Las Vegas and I don't know if any other hotel will live up to the Rio. I don't think I even want to find out.

Stayed at the Rio 7/22-26th. Great stay. Everything from check-in to valet parking was done extremely efficient and with a smile. Only problem is the constant pitch by the time-share people. They used to be only in front of the check-in desk, well thats changed. They are now at the entrance to the pool, Masquerade Village, buffet, and front desk. Gets really annoying after a while. But overall a great trip and won some money this time around.

We have stayed at the Rio at least twenty times since they opened. The early years were great being a new property off the strip, service and value were optimal. The last few visits service food and friendlyness have deteriorated.
At check-in our reservation could not be found. Finally they located it under my wife's name? I asked if there were perks such as two for one food or shows like we got the last few times. The clerk looked at me like I was crazy. The room was nice with a great view of the roof of the showroom. The coffee maker was gone but the fridge was still there. The pool was good, not crowded, maybe one tenth of the usual crowd we were used to. We tryed to book a show, the Italian Wedding, but kept getting the runaround (that coupon no good, only VIP seats left, etc). Then they came to fill the honor bar. This should have done before we checked in. There were quite a few items missing so I checked with front desk and was assured we wouldn't be charged as it was computerized. They were very condescending. SURPRIZE! After returning home there were the charges on the visa.We love being lied to. The food was o.k. not as good as before. A lot of empty spaces where slots used to be. Needless to say we did our gambling next door at Gold Coast and even used their shuttle to the strip. And need I mention the constant hassling from the Fairfield Resort hucksters at four locations throughout the casino. These shysters wont take NO for an answer. It's a shame, this used to be a great place. Last time for us. We'll stay elsewhere.

The rooms at the Rio were big, but they weren't very clean, and they desperately needed to be remodeled. There were stains on our carpet, and we found someone's old toothbrush in the closet (Nasty). We had a lot of fun at the pool area. There are about five different pools with waterfalls. The casino smells horrible!!! They really need to get some type of ventilation. My eyes swelled up and I got a horrible migraine from the unbearable smoke smell. It was by far the worst casino I had ever been in.

My husband and I were married at the Rio wedding chapel and stayed there for 4 overnights. I couldn't have expected more from a hotel...even better at such a great rate. (the chapel is operated seperate from the hotel)
It was such a nice stay that we are going back there for another 4 days TOMORROW!! When we were there, the one and only problem that we had was the people in the room next to us. Management took care of that right away. They didn't just move us to another suite but upgraded us!! (the first suite was the usual 600 sq ft room which is the smallest....can you believe the smallest?? and we were moved to a room 1100 sq ft WOW) They could have done what most hotels would have, and just moved us without the bonus and we would have been content. After all, the peoples behavior in the other roon was NOT the Rio's fault.
Anyway, the manager gave us his card and told us to call the next time we were coming to Vegas and he would make it worth our while AGAIN. We made our reservations, which was only a meger $69 for what you have in store when you enter your huge room(compared to other "poor mans" room) We decided to call and see if that manager was there and if he was really going to give us something more as he had promised....now tell me folks, we hadn't been to Vegas in 3 1/2 years (June 1999) and I was expecting this man to tell me "I'm sorry, I don't remember that", or some other excuse. NOT the Rio, no questions asked, he upgraded us AGAIN for the entire 3 nights. WOW again!!!!
Ok, back to what you should expect from them on the ordinary day....big suites, large 32in TV, dressing area, large closet, huge couch, name it....the whole 9 yards. The staff is great, the only other time I had experienced a staff where everyone of them is so polite and helpful, would have to be Disneyland park (not the hotel)
The room we'll be in is not much more $ but has a seperate living area, kitchenette, HUGE tub with jets, the most comfortable bed besides my own that I've slept in...believe me, that is a credit to the Rio in it's self. My job used to require me to live more in a hotel then at home.
GO RIO!!!!! Your the best. Oh, I almost forget, the pillows are the best and you get extra ones in your room without even having to call housekeeping..they are already there for you in the closet.

To date we have not been disappointed with any part of our visits except we that would like to win more in the casino (can this not be said about every casino?). The the hotel and casino staffs have been friendly and helpful, the rooms are very pleasant and clean and the food has been nicely presented and tasty. Our only disappointment has been the removal of the in-room coffee service. Still not sure why that was done. Never-the-less, we enjoy the Rio so much that we have reservations to stay there again over the next two months.

We've stayed at the Rio many times since early 1996 and attended a few of their slot tournaments. Since Harrah's took over the slot machines have become increasingly tighter. I don't think we have won a dime there in the past two years. The old machines we always played (and won) are long gone. I'm not impressed with all the new "gimic" slots they've added. You loose your money before you even know what happened. If you are lucky enough to actually win - it usually takes about 45 minutes for a payout or a coin fill.

The taxi line off to the side of the building is ridiculous. I can't understand why you can't walk out the door and get a taxi rather than having to walk around the building.

On the upside (if you happen to have any money left)we liked the food at all the restaurants and the service was always good.

THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME STAYING AT THE RIO, WE NORMALLY STAY AT HARRAHS BUT THE RIO COMP OUR ROOM FOR SIX DAYS WHICH WE FELT WAS A GREAT DEAL. THE HOTEL IS ONE OF THE MOST GORGOUS HOTELS IN VEGAS. CHECK IN TOOK ALL OF FIVE MINUTES AND WE HAD OUR BAGS SENT TO THE ROOM. WE HAD JUST GOT THERE WHEN OUR BAGS SHOWED UP AND A FEW MINUTES LATER THE MAID CAME IN AND SPRAYED THE ROOM WITH AIR FRESHNER WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A NICE TOUCH. THE ROOMS WERE LARGE WITH A CLOSET AND IN ROOM SAFE. THEY ALSO HAD A WET BAR WITH EVERYTHING FROM RUM TO BEER, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT WHEN YOU REMOVE ANY OF IT YOUR RROM WILL BE CHARGED FOR WHAT YOU DRINK. WE WERE ON THE 25TH FLOOR AND THE VIEW WAS BREATH TAKING AT NIGHT. WE WERE ABLE TO LEAVE OUR SHADE OPEN ALL NIGHT JUST TO ENJOY THE VIEW OF THE STRIP FROM THE BELLAGIO TO MANDALAY. THE FOOD AT THE WORLD BUFFET WAS GOOD AT TIMES BUT TRY AND EAT OTHER PLACES WHEN EVER POSSIBLE. AS FAR AS THE CASINO, WHICH WAS THE ONLY SORE SPOT MY WIFE AND I HAD WITH THE RIO. THEY HAVE ALL THE LATEST MACHINES BUT WERE VERY TIGHT. ALL WE PLAY ARE SLOTS WHICH WE KNOW CAN BE TIGHT BUT WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A CASINO THAT THEY WERE TIGHT MOST OF THE TIME. WE SPENT HOURS PLAYING THEM BUT WERE NEVER ABLE TO PLAY AT ANYTIME ON THE CASINO'S MONEY. WE WENT OVER TO THE IMPERIAL PALACE AND BALLY'S AND WALKED AWAY WITH OVER 2 GRAND IN LESS THAN 30 MINUTES AND THIS WAS ON QUARTER SLOTS. WE WILL MORE THAN LIKELY STAY THERE IN THE FUTURE, BUT UNLESS THEY LOOSEN UP THEIR SLOTS WE WILL NOT GAMBLE THERE AS MUCH AS WE DID THIS LAST TRIP, I THINK WE WILL GO OVER TO HARRAHS WHERE OUR LUCK IS MUCH BETTER. OVERALL THE RIO IS A GREAT PLACE TO STAY BECAUSE IT IS OFF THE STRIP AND AWAY FROM THE HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WITH THE PALMS ACROSS THE STREET THERE ARE OTHER THINGS TO DO. HARRAHS ALSO PROVIDES A SHUTTLE TO THE STRIP EVERY 15 MINUTES SO YOU ARE NEVER TO FAR AWAY FROM THE ACTION. WE WILL BE VISITING AGAIN IN OCTOBER BUT HAVE NOT DECIDED IF WE ARE GOING TO STAY AT HARRAHS OR THE RIO, WE ARE WAITING ON THE OFFERS FROM EACH EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE SAME COMPANY.

I visited this hotel on my second trip to vegas in the winter of 2002 in March. We chose this hotel because of its All-suites format being it was going to be three of us sharing the suite. The rooms, resturants, service were all very very good. I cannot say a bad thing about the hotel itself as far as staying there. the casino was kind of small compared to the mega sizes of the other casino hotels on the strip, but that is forgivable. The regular suite was very roomy and very good for the price.

The only complaint i have with this hotel is its location. On my only other visit to vegas i stayed at the dump that is the Boardwalk-Holiday Inn. Now, this hotel is about as avg. as a hotel can be, especially for las vegas, but its location right next to NYNY, Luxor, MGM, ect made it a very very fun place to stay. They Rio, being off the strip and about a mile or so down a very very busy connecting street, you definatley need a rental car to get around. And even if you get one, driving to the strip to do things can take as long as 45 minutes just to get to where you want to go, even if its only 1 to 4 miles away.

If this hotel was in the place of a Circus Circus or Bally's, it would be a hit i think. Where it is now, it will always be a second or even third teer property.

My first visit to The Rio was just outstanding, the room was large and clean with a fantistic view of the strip from the 33rd floor. The food was good, we ate alot at Cafe Sec Paluo, the coffee shop, and what meals, more than one person can eat, try the ham steak and eggs for breakfast, $9.95 but a whole slice of the best ham I have ever eaten. Wife and I ordered one and and extra plplate and split and were both full. They comped my whole bill except for phone calls and bottled water and a Rose I ordered with room service for wife, Valintines Day. Just a good off strip place to stay away from all the crowds. There is a free shuttle to Harrah's if you care to go over to the strip. Buck

We stayed at the Rio the last week of Feb. We upgraded our room to a better suite on the 34th floor and the view was amazing! The room was always clean, there were plenty of pillows and alot of room! The Lunch at the carnival bufet was very good with alot to pick from and the seafood buffet was very good. However, the breakfast buffet at the carnival buffet was terrible! The slots are rather tight... I know it is off the strip but the view and the room make it worth it!

This was my sixth stay at the Rio and I have never been disappointed in the Rio or the staff. The rooms are beautiful. Everyone right down to the cleaning staff are very professional and friendly. On one of my trips, my children stayed with me and they are begging to go back, they love the pools and the food! Every room I have been in has a beautiful view, whether it is the of the strip or the mountains. My previous visit was during the Sept 11 tragedy and I have to commend the management for the great rates my husband and I recieved when we were unable to return home. I really don't think I will ever stay anywhere else in Vegas, the Rio feels like my home away from home. The casino is great, I love the fact that I can play 5 cent slots the majority of the time and yet be a platnium player, guess that tells you that I play a lot of slots. I wouldn't call the slots tight but not loose either, this trip is the first of my 6 LV visits that I have not broke even or came home with more money than I brought with me. If you are looking for a "party" atmosphere then the Rio is the place for you to be!!

The location is ABSOLUTLY TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
It was my first vacation to vegas and '3/4 mile from strip' did not sound so bad. BUT There was alot of construction on the roads around the hotel so getting around in a car was a pain. PLUS don't want to catch a DWI while on vacation. Forget about walking anywhere, felt like I was on an island. The bus to Harrahs is the way to get to the strip....BUT it stops running at 1 ...went to see a show at Venitian and almost missed it.

Rooms are very good but bathroom was dirty..hair all over the tile in the shower...pretty nasty. They did clean it the next day, no problem. The bathrooms have little round window in the shower wall so you can see the room and tv while showering..pretty cool. Service was very very good. Oh one more thing the view from my room was fabulous. HUGE HUGE windows.

OVERALL: MUCH RATHER STAY ON THE STRIP, the hotel and casino is great but the location blew it. So, Rio take my picture cause you won't see me again.
Thanks, Kamil

My wife and I have been visiting Vegas for over 30 years. We have stayed at many of the "big" hotels,(Mirage,Ceasars,Bellagio, etc.)but somehow about 3 years ago we stayed at the Rio.Although it isn't on the strip we have found that it has many other attributes that more than make up for this inconveinence. The suites with the floor to ceiling windows offer a magnificent view of either the Strip or the mountains. They offer a wide variety of entertainment and dining and I have always found it's staff to be friendly and courteous. We have stayed at the Rio our last 4 times in Vegas and our looking forward to our next visit in 2/03.Their room rates and comps are also appreciated.

My husband and I stayed here in Mid January 2002. We were in the Ipanema tower with a view of the mountains. The room was large, very clean and quiet. We ordered room service a few times and the food was always quickly served, hot and to our liking. The casino is spread out and has the Masquerade Village over some of it. The shows were always good with lots of great music and mardi gras beads!!!! The Seafood buffet is a little expensive for Vegas ($27.95pp) but well worth it. The Carnival world buffet is just okay although we had 2-for-1 tickets for it so $16 for 2 isn't bad considering all of the food stations and variety. Check in was a breeze as was check out. Our room was serviced by housekeeping but always while we were out and thank goodness, they didn't knock on the door early in the morning to check if the room was clear like some other casinos. We're heading back in 2 weeks and staying at the Rio again.
Give it a try. It's a little off the strip but well worth it.

They charge $40/ night for a strip view. But the room was big, and nice, and quiet. The mountain view was nice, nicer than I thought it would be.
Overall, it was a decent place.

I really liked staying here. I wasn't so sure I wanted to stay off Strip but it was nice to not have to always go on the strip to get to the hotel. Our room was huge! Very comfortable, well cleaned. It's more of a younger crowd area but not so much that more laid back types can't enjoy it.

I'm not sure if I would return to this hotel. I guess I would, but only if I received a great room offer. First the positives. We stayed the week before Christmas, a traditionaly slow time. Check-in was a breeze, we were able to check-in early and there were no lines. Upon check-in we were upgraded to a room in the newer Masquerade Tower with a view of the Strip. The room was huge, with a king sized bed, double sinks, mirrored vanity, mini-refrigerator and a gigantic seperate dressing area. It had lots of ammenities and was spotless. Housekeeping and valet service were great, the casino was easy to navigate, the slots paid out pretty good for me and cocktail service was good. Now for the negatives. This place isn't on the strip but about 10 minutes away. You need a car, they provide a shuttle to Harrah's but it's often extremely crowded and unreliable. This place also seemed to be frequented by quite a few prostitutes. Some WAY past their prime. I observed security escorting them off the grounds on at least 3 occasions. This place gets mobbed on the weekend by young, obnoxious, rude, drunk, scantily clad, wanna-be rich kids. Valet parking as well as the ladies rooms are almost unavailable during these times due to their demands. I guess this isn't a bad thing if your a single male about 25 years old. The restaurants are overpriced and the food practially nonexistent. The Carnival World Buffet was awful. It cost $18, was dirty and the food was stale and overcooked not much varity either. The Village Seafood Buffet fared much better though (just don't eat the lobster). The Vodoo Lounge was very snooty. We were dressed properly but they still looked you up and down like a peice of meat. Like they might be any judge of taste! All this and there were all of 12 people in the lounge! Totally uncalled for. And I hear that they sometimes charge for the elevator ride up there(even hotel guests). I might pay $7 a drink for all of this atmosphere. Get real. I wouldn't even pay this at home in Manhattan. Their slot club is horrible. The hosts give out false information. Be sure and take out your comps on a daily basis. Because if your staying at the hotel for a few days and miss a day gambling you with lose everything that's accrued in your account! Don't charge anything to your room (they don't comp at the end of your stay) and watch your bill for unauthorized room charges. They offered a mini-bar with snacks in our room, we never used it, but upon check-out were charged 8.00 for 2 bottles of water that were never used. They did correct it but only when it was brought to their attention. Overall it wasn't a totally bad stay but we just felt that we were being nickled and dimed for everything here. A much better bet, especially for the gambler would be to go to the Gold Coast Casino right next door (within walking distance). They were great, lower table limits, better payoffs on joker poker, great food at reasonable prices, looser slots, better comps and no attitudes. Overall a much better experience. You actually feel as if the appreciate your business and want you to gamble there. I think the Rio needs to remember that it's not on the strip (10 mins away by car) and really shouldn't be charging strip prices. They need to lose some of the attitude. Then they would be a much better place to stay and gamble at!

The Rio used to be the best casino in Vegas. The crowd was happening, the food was great and the casino was at least decent. Since Harrahs takeover, it has been downhill. The food is mediocre, the slot club is the absolute worst in town and the casino has removed anything even remotely decent. To make matters worse, I have been told that they are planning on removing ALL multiplay hand video poker machines in the next 12 months. I have stayed at the Rio 8 times in the last 5 years but this weekend will be my last. I will take my free room offer and find another home. It is really a shame what the cheap bastards at Harrahs did to a great place!

Rooms are quite nice, a little pricey for off strip. Buffets are over rated inmy opinion, but there ARE a lot of choices. No lowlimit tables even at night, late....cocktail waitresses are best looking in town...period. Drink service is really good, Buzio's is great but expect to pay 50-60 per person if you drink. Check in can be a little slow...they must give out a lot of player's cards...somtimes the check in line at the Total Rewards center was longer that nthwe regular check in.

The Rio is a great place to stay. Having your stay comped makes it even better. The location is a little out of the way but, that's a small price to pay for what you get. All the rooms are over sized(about 600 sq.ft.)with a 'L' shaped sofa, nice sized bathroom with seperate dressing area,27"t.v.,mini-bar.The atmosphere is upbeat with a Mardi Gras theme. As far as gaming, stick to the tables or video poker, the slots are tight.

Though we didn't stay at the Rio during our week stay in LV (we had a time share) we visited there to have the lunch buffet, which was suggested to us. It was extensive and the best we had all week. We also saw the Ronn Lucas show. We thought he was absolutely 1st Class - an amazing talent, and we'd recommend him to everyone. As we left his show we cruised through the casino and were happily surprised to see musical entertainment throughout, from a stage and above. It was quite a show, which added a wonderful touch to "just one more casino." Our visit to the Rio was so memorable we definitely feel it will be on our list to visit again. The Rio has gotten worse since The Marnells sold it to the horrible Harrahs Entertainment. The prices have skyrocketed and the food (especially the Carnival World Buffet) is just bland. My cousin who lives here says not even the locals like to patronize this place anymore. We stayed in December 2001 and the place was obviously run on a skeleton crew (I guess because 9-11). The service was terrible throughout the casino. The games were tight as hell and the pit just gives you the feeling that you cant win and you dont, nobody was. And they charge for cigarettes no matter how much you lose. Take my advice stay and play at the Gold Coast which is located right across the street. Its where a lot of locals go and I been there. Service is top knotch and the resteraunts are superb and great value. The food quality far exceded the Rios and you can actually win money in this place. Just ask the locals. They are the ones in the know. Cigarettes are free when playing tables or horseraces/sports. JUST AVOID PLAYING AND STAYING AT THE RIO UNLESS MONEY IS NO OBJECT TO YOU AND YOU LOVE TERRIBLE FOOD AND NOTHING SPECIAL "SUITES". Yes, its that bad.

We had a blast! Aside from being off the strip, there was nothing wrong with this casino. The buffet is highly overrated, but try Bomboleo, the Mexican restaurant in the hotel. Good chips/dip/salsa and great margaritas for a terrific price. We go there very time we visit Las vegas. Suites were huge and terrific view of strip. Drawback is that the cabs are expensive - not super safe to walk across the 15, so we took cabs. It adds up. There was a shuttle, but you had to wait forever for it. Great pool area. Nice atmosphere. Always someting going on!!! Good cafes. Pricey, but worth every cent!!
