Stayed at the Riv the weekend before Christmas, very good value at $25.00 at night. Only problem is that as an old hotel its very spread out

I enjoy the feel of old Vegas and this is one of the last. The staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were standard fare but very clean. How much time do you really spend in there anyway? I ate in the Italian resturant and found the food superb! The coffee at Kristophers is great, the kiosk coffee and service sucked. I did play the free pull slot just for laughs, the staff there were outstanding, very friendly people. I didn't see any really run down areas except the food court, but I don't eat at those things anyway. The location is perfect, on the strip, but far enough away from the madness. I will be back soon, and will again stay here.

WE stay at least once a year. The "price" is right with slot club rates!! Always helpful & always profitable....though we don't get rich! Rooms are OK, but not fancy....we pay $25-$30 ... NOT $150...s good as any Holiday Inn!

The Riviera was VERY good to us.

We booked through a travel agent. The price was so good that we stayed longer than we originally intended.

We were given an upgrade without tipping anyone.

We were given free passes to see a show because we were hotel guests. I saw other hotel guest with the same free passes. Each ticket required a $3 service fee at the box office. No problem.

I liked the "Crazy Girls" show.

The comp system was so very good. From it we acquired free buffets and two tickets to see "Splash", which I enjoyed.

They gave us a free pen at the Players Card desk because we earned a certain number of points on a Wednesday.

They gave us a fun book for food discounts.

WE loved the buffets. We ate three.

Loved the pool. Nice and cool and scenic.

Our suite overlooked the Strosphere.

Loved the safe in the room. Used it and felt secure.

Won like crazy on the nickel slots. Sometimes played back all the wins, but were happy to win.

The $40 for $20 was a tad harsh. My machines won not even a point. Got a nice denim jacket for two plays ($40 cost). The slots could have been a little loser just to make it feel fun. It didn't feel fun. It felt like a gift shop with some fake slots.

Enjoyed the hourly drawing of eight numbers for prizes. It was a free Keno type game. It got me out of the room hourly and into the casino, where I wanted to be. Never won anything big, and mostly didn't cash in the little wins, but had fun with this freebie game and the chance of winning.

I felt very safe at the Riviera. One of the four nights, I got up at four a.m., left my husband who was sleeping, walked around the pool, got coffee at Jitters, then played the slots. My husband found me at 6:30 a.m. having the time of my life playing "hot toppings" in nickel heaven. He joined in and we played for many hours.

With only one exception, the staff at the Riviera was very helpful and friendly. One lady at the Players Card desk was so wonderful to explain the comp system to us, but all others who awarded us the comps seemed to be having a bad day. I tried to ignore the bad moods they were having because I was happy with the Riviera.

I will definately return there in the near future.

Have stayed at the Riv since we got married in LV in 1993. Love this place. No, it is not the nicest, it is getting shabby. But..... We get offers for free slot tournaments, including rooms, all the time and love to go. My husband is 73 and this hotel is not so spread out that he can't get from the casino to the elevators. Nickel Town needs carpeting and sometimes smells, but I don't spend my time there, he does. The staff is sooooooo friendly, there is auto check in and tv check out, makes it easy. We can go across to slots o fun, stardust or circus circus easily. I don't care for the expensive, massive hotels so this is perfect for us. I think we have stayed there 9 or 10 times, always have a good time. Drinks flow freely, we even have made friends with some of the cocktail waitresses who recognize us when we come back. We are going for a fully comp'd slot tournament May 23, 4 days, good cash prizes, and I can't wait.
As for others saying it should be imploded and rebuilt, I say leave it alone. Get new carpeting and keep the friendly, small hotel atmosphere.

I accidentally left my garment bag in my room when I checked out. After I arrived home I realized it was missing and immediately called Housekeeping. They had me call back 3 separate times to check back with them giving me the run around. I was finally transferred to Security. Security told me talk to Housekeeping! Housekeeping told me it was Housekeeping's policy NOT to remove bags from a room...but apparently they can allow someone to occupy an un-cleaned room with your bag still in it! I lost over $600 worth of clothing, shoes, etc. If you want an honest place to stay, don't expect to find it here. If Housekeeping doesn't steal your things, then apparently the next guest will be allowed to. Spend a few extra dollars a night at another more reputable hotel and keep your things from disappearing.

I have stayed at the Riv many times and have always had good experiences there. The casino has not always been kind to me in terms of jackpots, but overall it's got a great variety of games to play and a fantastic comp system! It's nice to be able to circumvent that No Saturday Arrivals crap that you have to put up with when dealing with other Vegas properties. It's not really much of a walk to the Center of the Strip. The entertainment in the lounge is usually very good and can be enjoyed from many parts of the casino. I can't wait for next week when I'll be staying at the Riv once again!!!

The Riveria was a last choice for us but we were pleasantly surprised. It is old fashioned and cheesy compared to some of its newer rivals but the rooms were comfortable and the staff friendly. It is at the slower end of the strip but don't let that put you off. It's cheap and cheerful and a good base if your staying in Vegas for a few days.

The only reason to visit the Riviera is to see the wonderful, fantastic, larger than life... Jim Lebeouf. Voted best Elvis tribute artist in LV. He is the most delightful, funny and talented guy in the town. His band are superb too. They put their heart and soul into their show no matter how many people are in the audience. He almost makes you believe there is a heart in this town. If you are an Elvis fan you will not be dissapointed. Go see him, he deserves your applause. Fri, Sat and Sun at 2.30 check him out its free apart from a couple of drinks, which you will need as you get dry singing along to all those great songs!!!! The hotel is ok but a bit far from the rest of the action.

The rooms are acceptable, decent, clean, the view nice and that is about it. Value; forget it, even with a convention discount. The rest of the hotel is awful. Food is bad and WAY over priced. The journey, and that is what it is from one’s room to the “coffee shop” or buffet, is a lunch packing trip through the main casino. The buffet was poor, the price way too high for the quality, but the view nice. Would we stay there again, absolutely NO. After 20 years of going to Vegas on business we have finally found a hotel with truly LARGE rooms, good service, decent food, and if booked on a package through Expedia, CHEAP! We have found a hotel we will actually look forward to returning to and that is the Orleans Hotel Casino. Yes, it is off the strip, but we always get a rent a car anyway, so that is no object, plus they have a shuttle to the strip for those without a car. The Rivera is old, over priced, over run, and just doesn’t offer the value, room, convenience or amenities that some of the newer off Strip hotels do.

Before booking a package that included flight and room for Vegas, I called the Riviera to see what kind of room would be included. (The Riviera was no cheaper then any of the other places offered). I was told it would not be a standard room, but a superior room. Ha! The room they gave us was in a corner overlooking a rooftop in the Mediterranean North. The room was dirty, the carpet full of cigarette burns. We were told later by one of the staff that all the rooms in that tower are the same. The bathroom was very small and didnt even have any counter space, the only place you could put a shaving kit, etc. was on top of the toilet! After spending one night in that room, we asked for an upgrade. The only upgrade they offered was a two room suite for an additional $40.00 per night. We took it. The room was spacious and clean, but the furniture is old and needs to be replaced. This was on the 10th floor of the Mediterranean South (any thing below the 10th floor is the same as our first room) We were told that the only good rooms are in the Monaco or Monte Carlo. So if you are going to stay there, be aware of where your room location will be! We did like the casino, but probably would not stay there again due to the poor quality rooms.

We did not stay at the hotel, but we went to La Cage show. The show may have been good, but we were seated in the back and the sound system was awful. It was so loud that we had to leave. We had headaches and ringing in our ears for about an hour after we left. The people seated around us bailed out before the first performer finshed lip syncing his/her song. If you go to this show, bring ear plugs because you are going to need them. The casino was pretty good (plenty of 9/6 VP machines) if you stay away from that dopey 40 for 20 deal.

I didn't stay here. In fact, I got mad and didn't even gamble here. I got tricked into coming from a $40 for $20 coupon. It turns out that you have to use $40 in selected slots. Probably the lowest paying ones in the casino. I got mad and played across the street at Slots of Fun.

When we were headed back to our car that was parked at the Riviera. A clown chased us. We tried to ignore her, but she chased us into the casino. I definitely would not ever walk into this building again.

I didn't stay at the hotel but had dinner at their buffet. It was, without a doubt, the worst buffet we tried in Las Vegas. The selection was small and uninspired, and the overall quality was very poor. I expected better from a hotel of this caliber.

My stay at the Riviera sucked. The room smelled and there were cigarette burns in the carpet of a non-smoking room. Stayed in the Monico Tower. We had to walk through the entire casino to get to our room. Some would say that the conditions at the hotel are poor because it was built in 1955. The Stardust is almost as old, buy they have remodelled their tower and the rooms were quite pleasant. The Golden Nugget is an older establishment as well and that hotel was awesome. The Riviera must take note of the other, older hotels that continue to stay up-to-date. Do not stay at this place until they implode it and build from scratch.

The worst experience i've had in Vegas! This should be the next hotel to get demolished! The rooms are old and crusty, the food is worse than mediocre, the service was terrible, and the casino is old and uninviting. They also charged a $20 per night room upgrade fee to my credit card even though I never asked for an upgrade. When I talked to the manager about it he was rude and offensive and would not credit the charges back to my credit card! I will never set a foot inside this place again!!!

We had to stay at the Riv as part of an America West package deal. The hotel is definetly showing its age and it's not laid out well. On the plus side, the room was clean and comfortable even if it was worn down, the elevators were quick and the pool was ok. Their casino is depressing and not fun to play in. We barely played there at all. The buffet was pretty bad but at least there is a Quiznos in the food court for some good grub. I wouldn't stay here again unless it was free or forced upon me to get killer airfare like this time. Beware the Crazy Girls show. It was the only time I have ever wanted attractive women to put on their clothes and go away. The show is painful to try and sit through.

Me and a college buddy visited the Riviera over Memorial Day weekend in O2'. We thought we got a good deal but what we got was a dump. We pretty much only used our hotel for our beds cause we payed for it.. IT was hard to find your way around and it was far away from all the good action in Las Vegas, we never ate the food cause it smelled weird and never gambled there cause the tables were to expensive and the people running them were rude to other customers so i didn't feel the need to gamble there. We spent all our time at other hotels and Casino's and are coming back to Vegas in May again in O3 and staying at Imperial.. We also went to a Comedy show at Riviera, and it was not funny and the placed you in a big room and crowded everyone really close together and didn't even offer drinks.. The comedians were dumb and didn't have any thing funny. It was a waste.. The waitress on the floor were rude to you if you were not gambling and if you did gamble people said it was hard to get free drinks.. SO never again Riviera..

Our stay was o.k. I wouldn't say that it is the best casino in Vegas, but for the rate we paid it was about what I would expect. The solution they use to clean the rooms left a bad odor. The room was a good size...and our bathroom had a large counter (plenty of room to place toiletries.) The room did look old and could use some remodeling. But when I go to Vegas, I generally don't spend much time in the rooms. Didn't really go into the casino, except walking through to get to the registration desk (which is a pain). However, after checking in, we were able to locate an alternate route from the parking garage to the elevator accessing our floor. I would probably stay there again, if they offered the best rate...but it wouldn't be tops on my list of places to stay.

Our stay was actually in the Spring of 2001, but I just discovered this site recently.

The Riviera was a decent place to stay for our first ever trip to Vegas. We basically spent most of the trip figuring out where we'd stay for our next trip, since I don't plan on ever returning to the Riviera. The check-in was pretty slow, especially for it being a slow weekday. There were 4 of us, in two rooms. They did manage to locate us right across the hall from each other, but we were not given the non-smoking room which was promised to us. I felt like complaining, but was afraid they'd send us to a different part of the property, away from our friends. The rooms seem a bit run-down, as well as the hallways, etc. The rooms served our needs good enough since we weren't in the rooms very much.

The casino is much larger than I expected, and got lost on a couple of occasions. I found the slots to be fairly loose (hit a couple $100 and $200 jackpots). We only ate at the buffet for breakfast, and it was decent (with made-to-order "death" omelettes that taste like they're %90 butter). We did not attend any of the Riviera's shows, but heard from others that they were nothing to write home about. The Riviera's Sports Book is small and non-impressive!

If you've never been to Vegas before, the Riviera is in the North Strip Area, near Circus Circus, Slots-A-Fun, Stardust, Westward Ho, and the Sahara. Treasure Island and the Venetian are the only close modern "mega-resorts", with a 15-20 minute walk. So even though it's not near the Big and Sexy hotels, there are still plenty of places to go to around the hotel. The best surprise was the excellent sport book at the Stardust (across the street), which was awesome since we were there to bet on the first and second rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament.

I'd say the Riviera is a decent place to stay if you can get the rooms cheap and you don't expect luxurious rooms or service. However, I doubt if I'd ever consider going back.

I have stayed at the Riviera more than 10 times. The standard rooms are decent size, but the bathrooms are rather small in many of the rooms. If you play slots, the discount room rates for slot players are a great deal, one of the best, if not the best, on the strip. The staff are generally friendly , efficient and easy to find, even when the hotel/casino is very busy. You don't have to wait as long for jackpot payouts at the Riviera as you do at some other casinos, and this can be an important plus, as some casinos make you wait 20 minutes or longer. The slots are probably a bit looser than most, I've hit some nice jackpots there. The restarant food is good, the Italian restaurant and Kady's offer good food at reasonable prices. One problem,if you want to get a complete dinner after 2:00am, you will have to walk across the street to Circus Circus. Kady's stays open all night , but the menu is very limited after 2:00am, mostly breakfast food and cold sandwiches. The hotel location is a bit far north, so you have to walk a bit, take a cab or the bus to the center strip hotels. This has never been a problem for me, but some might not like it. At $15 per night for slot players, the value is outstanding.

Everyone from the housekeeping staff to the slot hosts were extremely courtious, friendly and seemed genuinely pleased to be of assistance at any time of the day. The treatment that we have received during our past 6 visits is the reason that we keep coming back. Our stays at the Riviera have been so enjoyable that we have taken 3 seperate couples with us for their first visit(s) to Las Vegas. I would recommend it to anyone going to Las Vegas as a great location to base their vacation from. The rooms are reasonably priced, the staff is superb and transportation is available anywhere you need to go. The Riviera symbolizes the Las Vegas I grew up seeing on TV and in the movies (baby boomer era). I hear the Riviera and I think of the Rat Pack sign from Oceans 11. I was disappointed a couple visits ago to see that they had defaced the front with glitsy cartoon characters, but I guess they have to stay competitive with the mega resorts. That would be my only negative comment, the cartoonish slot advertisements need to come down, it cheapens what otherwise is a fine establishment.

I stayed here with a couple of friends over Thanksgiving weekend. This was the worst place I have ever stayed in Vegas. The only reason we stayed here was that the room was comped to me because I had hit a small jackpot on a previous trip with my wife. If I had to pay for a room in this place I would have been mad. The room was small, dark and musty. The view was of the Westward Ho and Circus-Circus although they were hard to see through a window that looked as if it had not been cleaned in ten years. Dealers in the casino were pretty rude and most had the personality of a stick. You got the feeling that they wanted to be anywhere but in this joint. I was playing craps about two o'clock one morning and as long as people were losing everything was okay (this was the only working craps table at that time) but when the players started winning the pit bosses shut the table down. I'll never darken the doorstep of this place again.

I have been statying at the Riviera each year for the past 6 years and each time has be a delight. The service is excelent and the staff is outstanding.
The entertainment leaves a lot to be desired. The casino staff is always quick to help out in any way they can. If you are unsure of how to play a particular game all you need to is ask. They will be happy to explain all rules and stratagies. The restaraunts are good.
Rooms are good size and clean. The hotel is easy to get around in.
I enjoy the old Las Vegas atmosphere of the Riv rather than the newer hotels on the south end.
I look forward to staying at the Riv for many more years to come.

It's been a few years since we've stayed at the Riviera. I believe our last stay here was October of 1999.

It's a decent place to stay with nice, basic rooms. The loction isnt' very good for us since we prefer the south end of the strip. The only casino's within easy walking distance are Circus Circus, Slot's of Fun, and the Stardust. If you want to walk a little further there's the LV Hilton, Sahara, and the New Frontier. The bus does stop right in front of the Riv and there's the Trolley but both were a pain to ride IMO.

I've been coming to Vegas casinos for years. The Riv is a classic old Vegas themed place, you won't find any of the corporate crap like the newer ones offer. Sure they're all nice at the other places when talking to you but once you leave or they hang up the phone they've forgotten about you and your requests go unheeded. Order room service from the other places and you're lucky if it gets there before the next shift comes on duty. I even saw a manager yelling and berating an employee in a public place at one of the newer locales.

Not so with the Riviera, the staff is great and so are the managers. Real down to earth folk that don't mind pulling up a chair and start a friendly chat. Room service brought my meal within 20 minutes and it was complete too. Lounge acts, gosh I can't remember if any of the other places do that anymore. Lots of shows to see too, the place is just an entertaining business. Too bad the newer boys can't take some notes from an old school property like this one.
