The worst problem was location. It was too far from the busy part of the strip.
So its walk all the way there or rent a car

Stayed here for NYE's from Dec 29 to Jan 1, and it was a great stay. Room was clean, staff friendly and casino loose. Had the same room that we stayed in last June. It was remodeled and nice. View of the Strip was great, and was even better when it started snowing. This is where we stay when on the Strip.

I was concerned about staying here after reading comments on this site. Visited 10-7/8-03 Tangiers Tower 24th floor. I was going to try the $20 dollar trick at the desk for up grade, took my chances without it. Room was very nice, nothing fancy but for $37 was well worth the money. Pool is big but only 4ft. deep. Slots very tight, Blackjack OK, Sports book was tiny & drinks at the book are not complementary. I didn't eat here because of all the reviews I read. Did talk to other people who did eat buffet and didn't hear anything good about it. I would stay here again but it is far N.end of the strip. The monorail wasn't running yet but it might make the location better when it is.

THIS HOTEL NEEDS TO FOLLOW HER SISTERS AND BE DEMOLISHED!
Everything in the room is old and needs fixing. The staff isn't very friendly and the hostesses are in their 40s and 50s. The entire hotel smells like an ashtray. The parking lot's elevators don't work so I had fun walking up and down the stairs with my luggage. I stayed here because I tought the price was cheap but during my stay I checked with Excalibur and Orleans and they were charging the same thing, so I checked out of Sahara and spent 2 days in Orleans and 2 days in Excalibur, and these 2 hotels were 10 times better than this hellhole!

This was my wife and I first trip to Las Vegas. (Please see my commets about the Flamingo!!)

We arrived from the airport about 10:30am. We were told that our King size room was not ready (which I knew check-in was not till 3) but they had 2 double beds available right away. So we figured what the heck, what could be the differance. I will tell you what the differance is.

We were first put into room 1660 in the Tanger Tower. The air conditioning did not work. All it was doing was blowing the air around. And I hate to tell youfolks, when it is 100 degree's outside, you know that feeling of wanting to come back to your room and feel that cold air. Second, those are NO WAY double beds or the hotel has a really sick sense of humor about it. There was mold in the bathtub, a picture missing on the wall, and the wallpaper was tearing from the wall by the bed. You see where I am going with this?

(Real quick side note) This was my wife and I 8th wedding anniversary. First time away from 3 kids in 7 years. I know that I wanted to make it special and I know that she also wanted to have something special.

Anyway- The next morning we got up early. I went downstairs and talked to the manager about the whole deal. He said to come back at noon and he would get us a new room. I said I wanted more then that. He then comp'd our Saturday night stay from 99.00 to 54.00 and our Sunday night stay from 49.99 to 34.00. I think he should of paid for our Saturday night stay all together, but you get what you paid for.

At noon we checked back and was given room 2455 in the Tanger towers. I will say this, it had a much better view of the Stratosphere, the A/C worked great and the room was totally clean. We checked out from our room at 8:00am Monday morning.

We tried the buffet at the Sahara the first night. $15.00 total for both of us and it is pretty much a Old Country Buffet or a Royal Fork buffet, Nothing fancy, but will fill you if you need to eat.

1 more thing to add- Not really the hotels fault, but either (A) avoid the trolly on Saturdays or (B) avoid it all together and just take the city bus which is $2.00 per person. It's worth the 1.75 per person the first time you take the trolley. That way you get to see the whole city and all the hotels on it's route, but on Saturday we waited over a hour and it was suppose to come every 15 minutes.

I was very unimpressed with the service at this establishment. People at front check in counter, very rude.
Their buffet really sucked big time. We were very disappointed.
One thing you never want to do at the Sahara is eat
Room was dirty,no towels in the bathroom,beds...well I still have back pain from
it.
Casino is old and small.Dialer's don't speak english.
slots were not paying at all( I was trying $1 slots)
It's a very bad value. LV is full of nice hotel rooms for about $50/night Do yourself a favor DON'T stay in the SAHARA

We have stayed at the Sahara 4 times before this visit and never had any real complaints about it. This time we took my sister and her husband with us and what a nightmare and how embrassing after telling them what a decent place it was to stay. We arrived early (1:30 PM)and were told we could not check in until 3:00 which we understand. When we came back after 3:00 and got our rooms I went with my sister to find her room. When we walked in nothing had been done to the room since the previous occupants checked out. We called the desk and they told her in no uncertain terms that the 3:00 check in time was not a quaranteed and she would have to wait a couple of hours until they could clean it. Why would you give someone a room that was not ready? (I'll bet the checkout time is guaranteed or you will be paying for another day!) We had reservation with friends and she wanted to unpack and change so she asked for another room. So they sent someone up with a key for another room. We went to that room and went in and was almost overcome by the smell of CAT URINE!!!! You could even smell in in the hall! Back to the phone again and the desk said they would send up a key for yet another room. When the man brought up the key I asked him to step in the room so he could verify the fact of the cat urine smell and he wouldn't do it. What's that tell you?? On to the next room! Finally a place to unpack and change. Everything was fine UNTIL the night when we came back to the hotel and my brother-in-law turned on the lamp beside the bed, promptly blew a fuse and they were in the dark. Back to the phone! Had to wait until someone could come up and replace the lamp that had a short in the socket. Needless to say it was a very unpleasant stay for them and a very embrassing situation for us because we recommended that we stay there. Never again!!

I never did think that the rooms or the casino was anything to write home about and not even a good value but up until 2003 there was good entertainment in the Casbar Lounge. The entertainment in the lounge was the only value. On my last visit the only room that was available was in the older tower. The air conditioning did not work and it was extremely hot. The attitude at the front desk is go elsewhere as we don't really need your business. The room wasn't all that clean. The buffet has really went down hill as well. The elevators at the parking garage are in real need attention. The casino smells like your in the middle of an ashtray. Would not stay there again.

We LOVED the Sahara! Our housekeeper was very friendly and would do just about anything for us. Always had a nice word for us as we came and went. This was our first stay in sin city and we went to all the casinos we could but we kept coming back to our casino because we were more comfortable there. The blackjack dealers were so fun and so were some of the pit bosses. Not stuffy and aloof like other places. We stayed for 5 nights and on the 3rd night we were up enough that we decided to splurge for a suite. Spoke to Eric the manager and told him we were interested in paying the difference for an upgrade for the next 2 nights and he comped it for us. A lovely suite on the top floor with a great view. They certainly made our stay memorable. We could go to other hotels but because of the way we were treated, we will make the Sahara our place to stay. You can't beat it for the price! One bad incident...My husband bought me a spa package at the spa and they had to refund part of my money because he paid for a dessert stone treatment, manicure and pedicure. They double booked the manicure and pedicure. They offered to give me a facial or an updo to compensate but I wasn't interested so they just gave me a refund. If you book at the spa, make sure they are not already booked for a service. Oh, and DON'T eat at the buffet (see buffet rating)

Spent three days (5-16/18-2003) at the Sahara. Had a very nice time. Casino is lively with low limits on tables and good paying video poker. Food at Paco's was excellent with good service. Coffee shop is ok for breakfast but wouldn't try it for lunch/dinner. Service slow as usual. Stayed in the Alexandria Tower with a great balcony and view. These rooms are old and show their age but I don't mind and enjoy watching the sun go down and the lights come on from the balcony. Employees provided good service and were quite friendly once again.

One of the big advantages to the Sahara is that it's not huge, so you can find your way around easily! Rooms clean and comfortable. Only complaint is that the sheets didn't quite reach down to the bottom of the bed.

Pool area isn't enormous but not as squashed in as at some of the big hotels. Got slightly crowed over the Memorial holiday weekend. Not much shade but cabanas to rent for $10 a day.

The location is slightly further away from the main hotels on the Strip than I would have liked. This means you do need to get the bus but at least it's not usually full that far up. You can walk but it would take close on an hour to reach Treasure Island and not a good idea in that heat.

As a base in Las Vegas, we found it clean and comfortable, which is all we were looking for.

If you're not expecting much, it's not all that bad. Fortunately all I need sometimes is a bed to sleep in and a bathroom to clean up.

For me, the location is decent. Not great but decent. Largely because I rent a car and it has great access to Paradise.

The casino has low limits and fare odds. It's a smaller casino so I had an easy time finding my way around. The slot club is decent and provides a coupon book every quarter.

The pool area isn't all that great. Good sized pool but, in comparison to other Vegas resorts, it's just a pool. There seemed to be plenty of lounges for people to sun bath.

They have only a fare selection of restaurants. We've eaten several times at NASCAR Cafe and have always good food. We tried the coffee shop for breakfast and it was decent. Prices reasonable, service was good, food was good but it's had to mess up breakfast. They also have a fine dining room called the House of Lords, a Mexican restaurant, and a buffet. We didn't try any of those.

The room was the biggest disappointment. The carpeting had a large burn mark where the iron had been dropped. There were also several areas that were stained. The chairs to the table were badly worn and need desperatly to be recovered. The bathtub had a constant drip and an ugly brown stain where the water obviously had been dripping for a long time. The bedspread had two holes in it. Finally, while the water pressure was fine, the water went alternately from scalding hot to freezing cold. I couldn't find any way to avoid this in the time we were there and essentially had to wash outside the water, wait for it to pass through a reasonable temperature, then wash off quickly. The room was in the Algeries tower and was room 2437 on the 24th floor.

The one final thing that bugged me was the temperature in hallways, the elevator, and the room. They really need to turn the A/C on in parts of the building other than the casino. The hallways and elevator were so warm, we pretty much felt the need to go back to the room and clean up again by the time we got from the 24th floor to the casino. We kept turning the temperature down in the room until the thermostat was finally set at 50 degrees. I don't think it ever got below 78 degrees in that room. If you moved around very much, you'd break out in a sweat. Fortunately, we spend very little time in the room so all of this was more of a minor inconvienence for us.

For the price of $274 for 4 nights, including 2 weekend nights that were sold out up and down the strip, it wasn't all that bad. If I could find anything else at a reasonable price, I'd probably skip the Sahara. If not,I could stay there again. I'm just not going to expect too much.

I was very unimpressed with the service at this establishment. People at front check in counter, very rude. Didn't want to help, just argue. Service at the Caravan Cafe was just as awful. We waited 45 minutes to get served on a Thursday night around 10:30pm. The room was ok, although the tub has chips in it and has some rust as well.
The only thing I liked about this hotel was the Nascar Cafe. Our waitress(Donna) was very friendly and we ended up eating there several times and always had great service.
I won't be going back to stay at the Sahara, just eat at the Nascar cafe.

It's old, it shows it. It's not clean. We had 3 rooms for 2 nights, all bad. Housekeeping didn't make them up until after 4 PM. I hate mold in showers and guess what? All 3 rooms had it. Food was not great. The only good thing was the price I guess, but I'd gladly pay much more and have a decent place. And I did my 3rd night. It was my first Vegas visit,I was there to get married. Moved to the Aladdin on Friday for 3 wonderful nights! It saved my trip!! If you only need a place to flop and aren't too worried about cleanlines, go far it.

This was our second visit. The rooms are ok, comfortable beds. The service was good throughout. I was comped the room for four days by shooting craps. Room service is great. Some casinos are so hectic people bump into you all the time. The Sahara seems more cozy and comfortable with good live entertainment every night in the casino lounge. House of Lords, formerly the Sahara Steakhouse had excellent food and service. Dealers are very very helpful and friendly.

The only reason I willingly stayed here was because they had what I thought to be a great deal on rooms; $49.00 night for a suite. I was put up in the Algiers Tower suites, while it was extremely spacious, the overall atmosphere was dissappointing. What can you expect from a half-century old facility? Faded carpeting, paint peeling off the walls, and a host of other annoyances will forever prevent me from spending anymore time there. Not to mention the dose of attitude I was given at check-in.

As far as the hotel ammenities go, nothing spectacular here, just your run of the mill standard quality Vegas norms. The location is nothing to brag about either, unless you're in the mood for an Oriental rubdown.(All I could see from my room was part of the Stratosphere and a road behind it lined with these establishments).

Bottom line, if you don't want to spend an armada's worth for accomodations, there are better alternatives.

Hmmm. This hotel was a little below ok. I wouldn't stay here again. I don't think this hotel is a good value (I paid $49-69 a night with Expedia). The location is at the far north (but that's not really that bad of a thing) of the strip, but you can easily take either the bus, shuttle or walk. The Venetian (a major new casino) is about 1 1/2 to 2 miles and can be walked in about 20 minutes. Once here you can wander to the rest of the strip. Other casinos like Stratospere, Circus Circus, Riviera are the casinos next door (walk 10-15 minutes). We got so tired walking and we had good shoes, but it didn't have anything to do with our location -- you'll walk MILES just covering ground between and in the casinos. The casino and hotel is old. And even after being remodeled isn't up to par with the newer casinos and hotels and not really with hotels in the rest of the country. After being in the hotel business for many years, it was easy for me to take note. Here's what I found: the cheapest towels, the pool closed and disrepair, carpets heavily stained, lamps bent, poor quality beds, lines, small TV - poor reception, dirty windows, stained box spring, dust over everything, crumbs on floors/corners, a lot mold in bathroom tile around tub, all bathroom corners. dirty. All in all, the hotel wasn't much better than your run of the mill motor lodge in a suburb. It isn't rated by AAA or even in their book. The staff in the cafe is apathetic moving at a snails pace and emotionless. I don't expect perfection, but considering what you can get for a few dollars more close to the major strip hotels, I would stay there next time. Even the motel 6 would be better, it 1 block off the strip at a major intersection. It's too bad because if the hotel were cleaner and staff a lot nicer/responsive this hotel would be 3 out of 5. I give it a 2.

The Sahara casino was OK. However, the $1 craps has gone the way of the dinosaur, and according to one of the dealers, the $1 blackjack will soon follow.
The hotel, on the other hand, is quite another story. I'm not hard to please, give me a clean, comfortable, quiet room and I'll be happy. The Sahara even made me mad. We made our reservations several days ahead of time, but when we got into our room, it had two queen beds, and we wanted a king bed. The lady at check in never asked what our preference was, she just gave us the room. I called the front desk, and was told that there were no king rooms available. And this was on a Sunday night, with no major conventions in town. We were told that if we came down after noon the next day, they would have a king room for us. The air conditioner barely worked, at full blast, it was just enough to keep us uncomfortably hot. And this was in March! I'm willing to overlook the big green stain in the carpet, but make me comfortable enough to let me sleep. Oh, and the light over the table didn't work.
The next day, I went to the front desk, and they STILL didn't have a king room, after promising me one! The lady I talked to had an "I just work here" attitude. Mid week, and no non-smoking king bed rooms? She told me that they only have 30% non-smoking rooms. When I pointed out that even in Nevada, with the highest smoking rates in the nation, only 30% of adults are smokers, yet they only have 30% non-smoking rooms, she told me "I'm just an employee here". No apologies, nothing. I didn't expect her to be able to change the hotel policy, but she could have mentioned it to someone higher up. By this time, I'm ready to get my money back and head to Binion's, and she asked if I'd like to speak to a manager. Then told me he was out to lunch. I came back later, he explained to me that the power company was expecting some power downs, and they had to close off part of the hotel. Why couldn't the clerk tell me that? If there's a reason, I would have accepted it, but giving me an attitude just made me mad. The manager moved me to a suite, which he didn't tell me was a smoking room. I really don't care, since any room I'm in is a non-smoking room. I went to my room to move my things up to the new room, and saw that the room had been allegedly cleaned while I was out, but there were three empty water bottles, yesterday's newspaper, and scraps of paper still left behind. I took my things up to the new room, came back to get the rest, and shocked another couple when I entered the room. Yes, they had sold my room to another couple that quickly, and they were there with the maid, trying to figure out why my things were in the room, empty water bottles on the night stand, scraps of paper on the floor, etc.
The suite was nice, but not what you'd expect for a suite in a Las Vegas hotel. Just a bigger room, with a walk in closet, wet bar, and refigerator.
We ate breakfast twice, and dinner once, in the coffee shop. I'd read that the one thing you never want to do at the Sahara is eat, and now I know why. We ate there because it was convenient, since we were staying at the hotel. Everything was overcooked, except for my wife's pork chop, which she was horrified when she cut into it and found it to be uncooked. Sahara, you may want to check with your lawyers before you serve Pork Tartar. Can you say "trichanosis"?
As if that wasn't bad enough, at dinner we had a foul mouthed speed freak keno runner tell us her whole life story. I don't mind talking to others, but please, at least speak respectfully to me when I'm paying to stay there. For that matter, speak respectfully to me anytime!
Sahara, take a clue from the Golden Nugget. They're older than you, but are the best rated hotel on this web site. Just because you've been around for 50 years doesn't mean you'll automatically be around for another 50. You need to learn a bit about customer service. It will be a sad day if you're the next hotel to be imploded, but you're headed that way.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a good reception, the room was on the 21st floor right next to the lift with excellent veiw. The room was comfortable but hey you only need a comfy bed in Vegas as so much to do. When we visited all the other hotels on the Strip and Downtown we were glad to get back to the friendly atmosphere and the cosyness of the Sahara. Had very expensive meal at the House of Lords steakhouse and i had the twin lobster and was very disapionted as it was very dry and rubbery and very tastles, we ordered 2 glasses of chamagne at $8 each and it came in 2 small bottles with sparkling wine on the lable. The did give me a slice of cheese cake on the house as it was my birthday although i asked for anything chocolate, the bill came to £121.00 gave $130 and he didnt come back with the change. The 24hr cafe food was very good and great value and the staff were very friendly at all times of the day and night, only had buffett twice and that was for breakfast and all i can say is you pay for what you get, except the made to order omlettes were great. The casino was very cosy and the cocktail waitresess were great and made us feel welcome (Hi ya barbara)
Overall the place was great and we are coming back to Vegas next year 2004 and def staying at he Sahara and cant wait.
We stayed for 7 nights and had the best sleep i ever had being on holiday as the beds are so comfy.

I'd never stayed at the Sahara before, and based upon some of the comments posted here, I didn't quite know what to expect. But they had an excellent weekend casino rate, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Let me start off by saying I understand that the management of the hotel markets the property purposely as a middle-level resort. They accomplish this very well. The Sahara is an older property that was refurbished not too many years ago and is famous for its $1 blackjack games. It attracts a crowd of who I would consider to be "real" people (not the fakes from the Hard Rock or the Palms, or the gentry from the Bellagio or the Venitian), just people who want to get good value for their money and have a good time doing it!

I had a room on the 23rd floor of the Tangiers Tower, with a view to the southwest and the Strip. My king nonsmoking room was large, clean and comfortable. It was not by any means plush, but had sort of a neutral, understated quality to it, probably the level of a Hampton Inn or Budgetel. The bathroom was decent sized and the room came with an iron and ironing board.

I must say that the only disappointing thing about the Sahara was its buffet. The food is very, very average and is presented in what most closely resembles a university cafeteria setting. Everything is self-service, so you have to get everything yourself, including your drinks. The price is cheap, but if you want a better buffet, you will have to shell out a few dollars more and go further down the strip.

Good visit, my daughter loved the NASCAR cafe.
The rooms are nice, clean and usually booked at a very nice price.
It is a shame that the Sahara is at the far end of the strip, but you can't help that so enjoy the hotel and casino.
When coming to Vegas it is always one of the hotels I check out for availability of rooms.

If you take the Sahara for what it is (a cheap hotel ON the Strip), then it's really not bad at all. I paid $39 for a room with no advance reservation. The room was nothing special, but it was very clean and didn't look old and worn out like I've seen with many old Vegas properties.

First complaint: The buffet is horrible. I don't expect much from buffets, and despite that I was still pretty disappointed. Very large selection, but none of it was good.

Second complaint: After playing craps and blackjack in their casino for hours, I asked about their rating program. I was told that they only rate players betting over $25 a hand. I was offended by this because first of all, the Sahara should value any action it can get; secondly, it bothered me because I am a Diamond player at Harrah's and I generally have over $200 on the craps table for any given role. I happen to ask the rating question while playing $10 per hand at blackjack and I get the cold shoulder. It's not like I was even asking for any comps... I was just asking about being rated.

Overall, I don't see any reason to ever stay here again unless, like last time, I find myself on the Vegas strip needing a room and not having a reservation anywhere.

I submitted a rating for 8/02. Went back again (not to stay --- never again!), but to play some Blackjack. They had a promotion --- pay $40.00 and receive $50.00 in chips. Sounded good to us. What they didn't tell us was that the chips came in $5.00 ONLY, so you had to bet $5 a crack. Went to the cage and demanded my money back, as no where on the coupon did they indicate this. Everyone there was very rude, including the dealers. In fact when you ask a question they sneer at you. And half of them can't or won't speak English. They need to clean up their act fast if they want to attract a respectable crowd. I will never go back there again for any reason.

Stayed 12/2 thru 12/6. Rooms were nice and large especially for the price of $39. Had a view of the strip. Thought the slots were tight. All the staff we encountered were very nice and friendly. Ate at the buffet twice, would not eat there again. Ate at the Nascar Cafe, food was great and the service was great.

I spent 3 nights at the Sahara and granted I did whatever I could outside the hotel what I did spend there I found quite enjoyable and perfect for those on a budget and who like to spend there money on ouside the hotel activities. I did enjoy Speed The Ride and the Cyber Speedway. I ate at the Nascar Cafe and I really did enjoy breakfast every morning at the Caravan Cafe. I didn't stop at the buffet due to the New Years weekend crowds. I had the really big fine dining outside the hotel. Rooms were clean, well kept with a decent view of the mountains from the Tangier Tower. I agree with the other reviews about linited TV stations but who really cares. All in all it was a great visit and given the choice between Circus Circus,Westard Ho,Riviera and some other Hotels enen Excaliber I will choose The Sahara all the way. Just don't expect luxory and you will instead get deluxe at affordable prices and quality entertaiment.

Stayed here only because another couple had already booked this hotel due to the low rate... however, you make up for that in all the taxi fares, as the hotel is pretty far from all the newer hotels on the strip. We tried taking the trolly one day, but waited over ONE HOUR for the trolly, then it took another hour to get down to the Tropicana. Room was average, you can tell it is an older hotel, especially in the casino. I believe the beds were only doubles - pretty small when you are used to a king. However, I did like their breakfast buffet, and loved the penny slot machines - yes, real penny slots!

This was a pretty good value, and when you have 8 people traveling on a very tight budget it works really well, though it is quite a hike to anywhere else on the strip, if you stay here plan on spending cash on taxis or renting a car. The trolley is really hard to catch and find.

The only complaint about the rooms is that one had a broken fan in the bathroom, and the views were at best mediocre.

We ate at the buffet, coffee shop, and paco's mexican bar and grille. The buffet was decent, the desert being by far the best part. The coffee shop was overcrowded and the service was slow and sometimes rude, but the food was cheap and good. Paco's was great. The food was extremely cheap and it was some of the best service we got on our visit. The salsa bar was the best part.

Here is a bit of a warning- There was a shop downstairs, pizzaz luggage, that was incredibly rude to my traveling companions and I. While quietly perusing the shop, the owner/manager walked up to us and told us to grown up, we assumed because my friend was wearing an elvis t-shirt and a cowboy hat. She then proceeded to accuse us of stealing her cheaply made rhinestone jewlery. I was very upset with this treatment and wrote a letter to hotel managment. Just stay clear of this shop if you want your treatment to be quality. This is pretty much the only reason I would never stay here again.

The room was nothing special, but it was clean and quiet. They gave us a decent view of the strip and the sunset. Our tower (Tangiers, I think) was conveniently located near the parking ramp. Only complaints about the room: the tub didn't drain to well and they need some more channels on the TV.
The casino was great. Plenty of dollar blackjack tables and most of the slots seemed looser than average. The buffet was better than we thought it would be, and the roller coaster was a nice thrill.
Some people don't like the location of the Sahara, but if you like to hang out on both the strip AND downtown, it's a good in-between spot. Oh, and a very nice pool there, too.

Our first night stay was horrible as we were kept up all night due to construction! They did discount our first night there (only 20.00 off which did not make up for our sleepless night) but the remainder 4 nights were quiet because they moved us to another room. Rooms were clean and service was okay. Would stay there again once we are sure the construction is complete.

Sahara could be a really good hotel, But I think the management is poor. First the same greasy fingerprints stayed on the inside door of the elevator for a week. My first night in my hotel the fire alarm started going off every ten minutes. I call the front desk to get it fixed no one showed up. There is no gym in the Sarah. If the maintenence people would just do the cosmedic things to better the place (i.e. get the gum out of the carpet in the bedrooms)I would have had a more pleasant experence. On the good side, the all night cafe was great. My waitress(a Fillapino Woman)bent over backwards to serve us. NASCAR cafe is good for kids. The buffet was much better than expected.

Like always, the room was ready and clean at check in. At $39 a night I don't expect much but the Sahara comes through everytime. The pool area is very nice for the price. I like being able to get to my car in 5 min. not the 20+ it takes at the mega resorts. I can't say the property is family friendly. Not much for the young set except the pool and no water slides or waves here. I always have a car so its location is not a problem. If you don't, the bus stops out front. Taxis back and forth could get expensive. This is the older vegas I love. p.s. the dinner buffet is not so good but breakfast is not bad, look for coupons. VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!

We stayed at the Sahara on the Rooms for a Buck deal, so we paid an average of $30/night on a Wed-Thurs.

The rooms are nothing special, clean and adequate. The casino is older but we found it to be a lot of fun, in fact we never even left the place one night! The drink comps are fast, the bartenders friendly and even the $1 blackjack dealers were very fun - something I totally did not expect.

The coffeeshop service was terrific and the food was ok. The food at NASCAR Cafe was great and the service ok. The bands at the Casbar Lounge were fantastic and free!

Overall, I found the Sahara to be a low-roller kind of place, but a great value and very fun. I was a little concerned about the location since I don't rent a car, but it was only about a ten minute walk to the Riviera.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Sahara, and had such a great time that we are heading back this September as well! For those of us on a budget, the Sahara features dollar blackjack as well as a wide variety of slots and video poker machines from 5 cents on up. I won about $400 one night on video poker machines.
The service was fine. Check in was simple, and we used complimentary lock boxes to hold our cash. The waitresses look good, and practically pour the drinks down your gullet!
After midnight, go to the Caravan Coffee House and get the $2.99 steak and eggs. We were pretty hammered at the time, but I'm pretty sure the steak was surprisingly tender. Service here was fine, so we feasted at 2am for about $6 after tip.
Perhaps the greatest thing about the Sahara is the LACK OF CHILDREN. I didn't see one kid until Thursday, our 4th day there. Unlike some of the other strip casinos that cater to the vegas "family experience", those who visit the Sahara seem to realize that Sin City is NOT a family experience, and leave the kids at home!
All in all, we had a wonderful time. True, the Saraha is not the fanciest place. The buffet is okay, the rooms are kind of nice, the casino is kind of small as compared to other casinos. But the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Visited the Sahara 8\11 thru 8\15. Room was very outdated, wallpaper was soming off in places. Stayed in the Alexandria Tower, only 2 of the 3 elevators for this tower were operating, and they seemed to be something out of the Flintstones. Played Blackjack a few times, don't bother if you have a clue as to what you are doing, because few others playing there do. On 8\14, played slots and video poker, and waited over 20 minutes twice for someone to fill the hopper.....only one attendant was on duty. While playing Blackjack the same evening, played for over an hour without ever seeing a cocktail waitress. This place seems to be terribly understaffed. For $29 a night, you get what you pay for, a roof over your head, but not much else. Check-in and Check-out took a long time too, seemed there were only 3 or 4 employees at the desk at any one time. This was the first and only time my wife and I will stay at the Sahara.

We spend 7 nights there for a rate I found via Internet...some nights at 1$ !
We've got a room with a nice view, but beds were probably worst than in jail...
Housekeeping was very poor, the elevators were ugly, the staff was really so-so.
A cab driver told us not to go to any restaurant there as they serve the worst food in Vegas....we didn't try any restaurant....
I won some money at the roulette, but slots were not paying a lot...
Definitely it's a low class casino, with low class people...but hotel rate was a real bargain as we were there during labor weekend....
In fact we just used the room for showers, some rest, and luggage storage !
I don't think they will see us again....

The rooms are nothing special but the value specials they advertise are
worth it. You cannot beat 30 bucks a night. The casino has some great
low stakes games, and word has spread so a bunch of kids in their early
twenties are there stretching a buck. This can be wild and fun or as
obnoxious as hell - as the gamut of twentysomethings runs.

Other than the dollar table games this may as well be the Gold Coast or
the Barbary Coast or Stardust. The casino decor is actually snazzier than
the Alladin.

Visit was generally good, but I have one complaint. We booked several weeks
ago. Upon arrival, we were given a room which overlooked the air-conditioning
system. Usually, we get a room on the Paradise Rd. side--many stories up so
we can enjoy the view. Granted, we were here July 3-5th, but we got a room on
the 4th floor--with NO VIEW at all. Surely, there must have been at least one
non-smoking room a little higher up with a better view. The desk clerk did
try to find us a room, but was unsuccessful. My other one complaint is having
to wait FOREVER for a refill on a machine. Don't they expect people to win
ONCE in a while? I realize that I'm expected to put back part of my winnings
while I'm waiting, but I really had to wait a LONG time on several occasions.
Other than getting a room with no view and waiting forever for my winnings, our
stay at the Sahara was satisfactory. All the staff members we encountered were
friendly, helpful and polite. Some of the slot machines were actually working-
and I even got home with some money.

I travelled from New Zealand to Vegas for a Hairdressing Convention. I wanted to book a hotel that was in walking distance of the Convention Centre, and not too expensive. The convention centre was only a 10 minute brisk walk away, so that suited me fine. Although, in the middle of summer, take a couple of gallons of water with you on pack horses, and you'll get there without collapsing!! It was hot.....damn hot!, But thats the desert for ya! I booked the Sahara online from comments that I had previously read at this website. The room-rate I thought was very good, so I didn't really know what to expect when I got there, so I wasn't really expecting the flashiest place on earth. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised. All I ask for is curtious, friendly staff, a clean and tidy room, and some decent places to eat. I got all this, in fact I would say that my expectations were exceeded, and I would indeed go back there for another stay. I was given a room in the Alexandria Tower on the 23rd floor, which overlooks the strip. The room was very tidy, and being a smoking room, I expected it to be a little musty, but it was fresh smelling....great stuff!!
The only negative comment I have about the room, was the shower. I think it advisable to either shower really early(6am), or late morning(11am), cause anywhere between that time, you'll be struggling to get a constant water temperature. It either runs too damn cold, or its gonna scald you.....so be warned. I think everyone is using the water at this time in the morning so maybe the water heating or pressure system they have can't keep up with demand. But I really didn't consider this to be a serious issue.
I'm not a slots player so I can't really comment on them, but I do love to play Blackjack! There were a lot of different variations on this game I had never played before, but they were all fun, and all the dealers seemed chatty, but only if you chatted to them, and played the game properly. It seems they have a bit of disrespect for people who lack the basic fundamentals on how to play the game of Blackjack properly. But, it's like anything, you make your own fun. I struck plenty of friendly people who wanted to have a good old chin-wag, so that was great, considering I was there on my own.
All food venues were OK I thought.....accept, I hate to queue for a meal, so I didn't eat at the buffet that often. But when I did, I thought it was great....good selection on everything!
Now the Sahara is a wee ways form the hotels at the southern end of the strip. But it only cost a few dollars to get down there, so I figured for the money you save from staying at the Sahara, its all worth it.
All in all, I would definetely stay at the Sahara again. Great value, friendly poeple, and a tidy room, what more could you ask for.

lot's of people are reviewing this property lately and since I stayed here last summer I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

The rooms here are basic, similiar to a Motel 6. The saharas' infrastructure is in an advanced state of decay. It is a top candidate to be the the next strip hotel to be imploded. It has the ambience of low income public housing project. Considering what they have to work with, the staff does a decent job. I give them credit for this. Except for my morning coffee I was afraid to eat here. The pool area is quite nice, but the day I was there someone had an accident in the pool and it was closed for the afternoon(deemed a health hazard). The location is horrible, on the north end of strip not close anything.
The sahara is a "hotel of last resort" in LV. If you can't find a room anywhere try the sahara. Alot of people come here on cheap specials from places like E LA. I don't care much for this clientele.
The casino offers some of the cheapest BJ and craps on the strip, a good thing.
Still it's a very bad value. LV is full of nice hotel rooms for about $50/night about $20 bucks more than you spend here. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more, LV is about splurging a little bit.

Stayed at the Sahara Hotel from 6/12 through 6/18. I got a great room rate of $29 a night during the week, and $59 during the weekend (booked the hotel on their web site). For the price of the room, it was a good value. The casino is rather small, though, and housekeeping services were not that great (had to call a couple of times to get them to come clean the room). The slot machines were so-so, but had plenty of blackjack tables open at all times. We ate at the Sahara Steakhouse, and the steaks we ordered there were very good. And the price was reasonable. We were told prior to going that reservations would be needed, but we walked in one evening at around 6:00 and there was hardly anyone in the restraunt, and we were seated immediately. Also ate at Paco's Bar and Grill there. The food wasn't very good and probably wouldn't eat there again. The food is very bland for mexican food. All of the staff we met at the Sahara was very friendly and courteous. Overall, for the value, this is a very good hotel to stay at.

Stayed at the Sahara 6/16 - 6/21 at the rate of $39/night. Our room in the Tangier Tower was very clean and spacious. The rooms in the older towers have central air, in the Tangier you can control your own room temp. Since we knew the weather would be very hot, we decided the latter would be best. Hotel staff was very courteous and accomodating. The only on-site restaurants we ate in were the caravan Coffee Shop and the Nascar Cafe. Both were very satisfactory. We did not find the location on the north end of the strip to be a problem. It's very easy to get around using bus, trolley, or taxi. The Strat is an easy 5 minute walk, and the Riviera about a 15 minute walk. We enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to return. For the price you pay, this is an excellent value.

First the good :only place in town that had rooms at a decent rate becasue of a convention on a friday night, called around to hear yes for friday between 169 - 329 for a standard room, nothing and I mean nothing for sat. called sahara the not only had a better price $69 for friday and $89 for saturday and 49 for sunday. It pays to call around. The buffet was good for price, 2people = 15 not a bad deal. Slots were the loosest to that point of our 3 week stay in vegas which was about halfway done. Had been at the stardust and stratosphere the first week and a half. Check their respective sites for the + n - . Girlfriend was preg. so asked for a room closer to elevators got just that. Thank you. roller coaster was the fastest starting coaster ever 0-60 in like .5 seconds be sure to have your head back against the head rest, to avoid the wiplash. virtual indy cars are a blast came in 2nd with a top speed of 234mph, started racing backwards towards the end to see If i could, sure enough. Ok now the negative : long, long walk to the buffet through the casino , through the nascar stuff up the escaltor finally there after a 10-15 walk especially bad for my preg. girlfriend. The other unforgivable item was the people selling property time share as you entered the casino from the registration area with hooks like : you want some free passes to a great show...sure a wait a minute thanks but no F**KING thanks.

I was looking all over for any sign of renovation. The room was shabby, the chairs were disgustingly dirty with stains on them, the carpet was obviously old, the palm trees in the buffet area were bursting out styrofoam. All in all, most of the place was very shabby, and dirty. The only area that looked like it had a face lift was the check in area. We considered moving to a different hotel but decided we weren't spending much time in the room anyway and went to the rest of the strip to enjoy ourselves. The location is also pretty inconvenient if you plan on walking and in an area I felt unsafe in in the evening. It's at the furthest end of the strip with the stratosphere the only other hotel within a 5 minute walk. The next closest hotel is the Riveria which is at least a 15-20 min. walk, if you push it. With the amount of money the casinoes bring in, there is no reason they can't make this place as beautiful as some of the other hotels. We would defintely not stay here again. For the same price or even another $20 we could get a much nicer, more convenient hotel for the money. The only thing going for it was the price of their buffet. It was very reasonable and the food was okay.

Overall everything was great. Room had a great view of the strip. Wanted more pillows and they were delivered right away.

Buffet was okay for the price.

Casino was great. All dealers were fantastic with one exception, Christopher on the crap tables. This guy does not have the temperment for dealing craps. He was more concerned with somebody putting out a cigarette which was, "giving him cancer", than taking bets. More than once I had to remind him to pay me. This dealer actually yelled at me for not telling him I wanted to press a bet quick enough. For that he "punished" me by not taking the bet. I had to get the boxman involved to get my bets down.

The rest of the dealers on the craps tables were fantastic. I mean these guys really took care of everybody.

I will be going back to the Sahara because of those guys. We had fun. Hopefully Christoper will be gone.....

i didn't stay here, but i've been here every year for the past 4 years. each year i see "the rat pack is back" and each year i enjoy it! everytime i see the show, i spend quite a bit of time checking the hotel and casino out. i think it's a very nice place and very family friendly. i haven't encountered once rude person who worked there yet. i would definitely visit again. i might even stay there next time. the only downfall i can think of is that it's pretty far down on the strip, but nothing's TOO far because there's a nifty lil' dollar fifty trolley!

Room was better than expected for the cost. I had no problems at all with hotel employees. I was happy with overall stay. This was one of the better hotels to stay at if you are driving as the self parking. taxi's, and shuttles are all very close to the room elevators on Paradise road around the corner from the strip.

A word of warning, though... look out for were the very long lines to check in. Every day starting at 11am there were extremely long lines to check in. I waited approx 30 min and when I was finished the lines were twice as long. Just be prepared for the wait so you don't get too annoyed to start your vacation. This did not bother me because of the nice rates I was able to get.

Definitely recommended for the value.

I like staying at the Sahara, as it is good quality for the price. The rooms are always clean...and most of the hotel staff is friendly. The main drawback is the location...as you need to either take public transportation or have a car in order to see other parts of the strip. But overall, I enjoy my stays at the Sahara.

The foyer and lobby of the Sahara are just gorgeous. The only unfriendly worker we encountered was at check-in, but everyone else was friendly and helpful. Our room was in the Tangiers tower and afforded us about as nice a view as you could expect this far north on the strip.

Speaking of the location, it's really not too bad if you use the trolley like we did. If there aren't seats available when you get on, there almost certainly are after it's next two stops at the Hilton and Stratosphere, so you can rest in comfort for the trip back south on the Strip. Otherwise, it is a bit of a hike to the Riveria (the next closest location) and not one I'd really want to walk at night.

The Sahara is definitely the best place for low-rollers on the strip. The rooms are quite nice (the whole hotel has been recently renovated), the hotel is fairly easy to navigate, and there are a ton of table games with low limits. And if you want to go downtown, a cab ride is only about $7.

My girlfriend and I weren't sure what to expect from here, but we both came away very impressed and would recommend the Sahara to anybody looking for a comfortable, safe and cheap room on the Strip.

My wife took me to Vegas for my birthday during Superbowl Weekend. I decided on the Sahara due to 2 factors... the price of the room (which included the availability during this busy weekend) AND the fact that it was somewhere on the strip. The price was much lower than other casinos. (In fact... their current weekday rates are as low as $29 bucks).
We got a room in the "Tangiers" Section...(a few bucks more, but we got a nice KING bed). If you are staying at the Sahara, I recommend getting rooms in this section. It was very nice and clean and had much more room.
The sports book was small, but I knew most of my Superbowl wagers would be done at The Marage... (my vote for the HANDS-DOWN-BEST-BOOK-IN-VEGAS.) The casino was very nice... and there was always availability on the $1 craps and blackjack tables... and even the one whole hour the tables were packed... the wait was only about 10 minutes. They even had 5x odds in craps... think about it... $6 line / come bets in craps with a house edge of 0.18% (I played for several hours with $50 bucks and left up about $100.)
The buffet was good... and for the low price, it made it even better.
We rented a car and the parking lot for the Sahara was only a few minutes away... right next door. This helped...ALOT... since being in the North-End of the Strip ment short drives to other casinos... or long waits in the cab or trolley lines.
For those of you who are not high rollers, but do not want to stay in some 'dive'... I highly recommend this hotel.

Unless you are a Nascar fan I wholeheartedly would say to avoid Sajara. Room was overall dirty and worn out. Toilet didnt work, overflowed onto carpeting and housekeeping never showed up to fix.As far as the buffet, I had much better food in the Marines.Absolutely the worst location ever! An o.k. place to check out the Nascar rides, store and restaurant but not worth staying at.

The rooms at the Sahara were clean and the service was friendly, but the best part of the property is the numerous table games available to play that fits virtually anybody's budget. It one of the few places on the strip where an
average joe can walk off the street and sit at a blackjack table with a 20 and leave 2 hours later with enough change in his pocket to get a $1 32oz margaretta across the street. Plenty of $1 to $5 dollar tables for us working folk to have a little fun on. I recommend visiting.

We had A real nice time, Just A few things I thought were kind of poor. In the Casino, It seemed very hard to find A cocktail waitress, and when we did find one, it seemed to take very long to ge tour drinks. The Waitresses seemed to pay more attention, to people who appeared to have more money. (We are A young couple, Just trying to have A good time). They tended to shy away from us, as if we were not going to tip very well, When They really had no idea how well we would tip, because we wern't given very many chances.... The cleaning people in the casino seemed to be kind of rude, almost knocking you off your chair, to clean stuff, and grabbing your drink and throwing it away when you were not done with it......
But over all I would rate the Sahara rather well.... I would stay there again. and recommend it to others. The only reason I may not stay again, is because I would like to check out other casinos, and see what they are like.

This was our third visit to the Sahara. The first two times, we were pleased with our room and service, which was in the Tangiers Tower. This time, however, we were in the old section, and the room really showed wear. The pillow were flat as pancakes, and we had to put bath towels under them to give us some elevation. I was not able to use my laptop computer, because the telephone jacks were not changeable. While sitting on the toilet the first morning, water dripped on my head and back, and the floor was covered with water. It was cleaned up, and we were told it was due to condensation!! We would not stay in this hotel again unless we were promised the Tangiers Tower.

We stayed at the Sahara in late October/early november. We have a basic theory about las vegas hotels that you spend so little time in the room that should minimze cost. You can usually get a room at the Sahara for between $30 and $50 a night. The rooms are comfortable if not luxurious. The casino is a low rollers paradise with $1 blackjack and craps. The casino looks a bit tattered though. They desperately need to replace the tops of the tables as I noticed several that were stained and dirty. One drawback to the Sahara is the food. The mexican restaurant and buffet should be avoided. The coffe shop though has good food at a very reasonable price. My wife and I enjoy late night or early morning breakfast and a complete menu was available. We heard good things about the steak house and will try next time. One other drawback is location. The Sahara is quite a distance from the 'glamour' part of the strip. Rental cars are available on site. Overall, the Sahara is a good fit for us. If you want something more luxurious, the further down the strip might be more appropriate.

We did not stay here, but went to check it out. We were barely in the door when a couple of those overly persistant investment property salespeople accosted us. We tried to escape , but they kept hounding us and WOULD NOT LEAVE US ALONE !! For some strange reason they must have thought we had money !
Anyway, just when we were able to escape those 2, not 5 minutes later, some TIME SHARE a**holes started to bug us.!! THEY WERE FOLLOWING US AROUND AND HARRASSING US!!! We finally had enough and got out of there. If you really feel a need to visit the Sahara, be prepared to be molested by these slimeballs.
Very unpleasent, will never EVER set foot ( or any other body part ! ) in there again!!!

The Sahara is a nice hotel and most rooms have been updated. Has an arcade and rides for the kids, as well as nice places to eat. The casino is a little smaller than many, but has some great lounge entertainment. The comp program is great and reasonable to earn money back. The people are friendly and the card games are set up with a good amount of space for players.

Rooms are overall nice. The only thing that I didn't care for was that the rooms didn't have individual temperature controls, so that the room was often on the warm side.

Walking distance to Stratosphere, water park, Riviera, Slots-A-Fun, Circus Circus and Westward Ho.

Enjoyed staying at the Sahara. Our room was adequate, and clean. My wife and I love gambling at this casino. Low limits. Speed the ride is a good time too. Would stay again if I was looking for a deal and didn't mind being on the north end of the strip.

When my husband and I or myself and my girlfriends go to Vegas, we love to stay at the Sahara mainly because there aren't alot of children around. We are from the old Vegas...NO KIDS....this FAMILY ORIENTED VEGAS IS CRAP. Why do we want our children to see gambling?????Are we trying to push them into gambling. I was a child the first time I went to Vegas and we were not allowed in the casinos. Thats the way it should be today.....this is one place we should be able to go and not listen to a bunch of screaming kids.

We don't stay here because the Sahara has gotten run down after so many years. But we always gamble at the Sahara because the casino staff is so friendly and the tables are reasonably priced, even sit down Blackjack for $1 and $1 Craps.

The room was nothing special, but it was clean and quiet. They gave us a decent view of the strip and the sunset. Our tower (Tangiers, I think) was conveniently located near the parking ramp. Only complaints about the room: the tub didn't drain to well and they need some more channels on the TV.

I have visited the Sahara on each of my last three trips to Vegas. Although I have not stayed there, I am sure to on my next visit. This is a beautiful hotel with a great casino and great service.....and a GREAT DEAL! I was supposed to stay there in December but there was a death in my family, so we had to postpone the trip until April. We had four nights booked at only $25 a night...and that was through the weekend! This is an unhead of rate, especially for a place like the Sahara. Sure, you can stay at the Gold Spike downtoen for the same price, but you'll share the bed with roaches and you'll share the table with deadbeat drunks with one hard and an eye patch. The Sahara is a stand-up place for the price. It is a nice 30 minute walk to the glitz of the Ballagio, but you can take a shuttle or a cab for next to nothing. One of the best things about the Sahara is its casino. They have it all. You can play high limits or as low as $1 for live blackjack. I played blackjack for three hours and I only lost $25. I must have tipped out at least $15 of that to the cocktail waitress, who came by every 10 minutes or so. The service was great. Sahara is one of the few casinos to have a poker room. They player texas hold em' as well as omaha. The limits were around 4/8. The Sahara has the fastest roller coaster I have ever been on, SPEED. This sucker is like a rocket and I highly recommend it. I have only eaten at the 24 hour diner, and the servings were huge and the price was very fair. Service was a little slow, but what can you expect at 4 in the morning. If you are on a budget and you like to gamble low limits, this is absolutly the only place in town to stay. They have a little something for everyone. I am very excited to stay there in April 2003!

For the price of the rooms the Sahara is quite good.
The two things we don't like about it here is the Location. the location we could live with, but you wouldn't live for long if you eat in the Buffet. The food was cold, it looked terible and tasted even worse.

All bedding stained with who knows what. Bed mattress stained badly. Door closer leaking oil down face of door. Shower tile mildew (extreme). Caulking around moldy and missing. Tile grout on floor by toilet had urine stains. Windows were filthy outside and had many greasy hand and finger prints inside. Carpet had many large stains. This was with out doubt the worst hotel room my wife and I have seen since the days of the $3.25 per night motels on Rt. 66 in the 60's. The county or city health inspectors should pay this place a visit.
We come to Vegas about every two years and this is the first time we have been this disappointed, Our experience this year at Sahara Las Vegas Will probably be the worst ever. We are advising all of our friends and co-workers to avoid this hotel at all costs. We photos of these areas of concern.
