Well, 1st, when we checked in, we requested non-smoking. We were checked into a smoking room on the 20 th floor. When we went into the room, someone had been in the room moments before. The room was not cleaned, there was dirrty dishes, the bed was not made, there were cigarettes in the ash tray, and ashes from incense burning on the furniture. I called downstairs immediately and was told to come down to the managers window. After I found the managers window I waited 20 minutes for a manager. The manager was an 18 yr old kid who couldn't look me in the eye, walked away as I was talking to him, could not honor my request for a non-smoking room, even though I told him I had asthma, and most of all he NEVER apologized, for the dirty room or any inconvenience. So, he sent me to another smelly, smoky, room on the 21st floor and said call us in the morning with your request for non-smoking and we'll move you then. WEll, I was moved to a non-smoking room, on my own, no help with moving the luggage to another room either, as promised. This was the worst service I have ever received from a hotel, but most of all, what really mattered, was I never received an apology for all the incovenience of being moved 3 times. The rooms are noisy, unclean, and stink! I will never visist this hotel again!

My husband and I are BIG Stratosphere fans, and are looking forward to our visit, in a few weeks. We stay at the Stratosphere every time we vacation to Vegas,(talk about Loyal..lol). Our biggest reasons for our loyalty are these: FAT TUESDAYS (Mixed drinks, Jello shots topped with whipped cream, $1.00 tequila shots, cherry bombs, and awesome, friendly bar tenders),reasonably priced rooms, the seemingly loose Monopoly slots, the fact that We never have trouble hailing a cab from this location, and are only minutes from Olympic Gardens (beautiful girls), and Casino Royal (home of the dollar Craps tables)...oh yeah...and FAT TUESDAYS. We feel comfortable here, without all the snobby, high priced stuffy ambience of some of the newer casino's. Kid friendly? Well, in our opinion, Las Vegas is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE KID FRIENDLY....it's a place of show girls, gambling, smoking, and ALOT of drinking, of ADULT time with your Honey, or friends....do like we do and leave the kids at home when vacationing in Vegas....Due to my fear of heights (I know, it's embarrassing), I haven't been to the very top, and definitly not on the rides, but, my husband did go on the ride with my dad, and said it was CRAZY...fun. We went once to the bar (can't remember name), right there in the casino, and the bar tenders were funny/friendly, and the music was great! We love the Stratosphere!!!!- Destinee

This was my second stay at the Strat, I was there a few years ago as well. The only drawback would be the location if you don’t have a car, if you have a car – No Problem. Parking is easy and quick. Always lots of spots available.

I like this place, a great value, if you can find a rate from one of the online hotel discount sites they usually have a really good nightly room rate. I found the hotel staff very friendly and the casino staff helpful. The players club sign up and staff there are also helpful.

The room we had was in the new tower. All I needed to do was ask for a new tower room and the request was granted, even though my reservation was from an online discount hotel broker and was for a room in the old tower.
The new tower is quite nice. Room was clean and very functional. I didn’t have an in-room safe though, which would have been nice. This property is rated a 3 or 3.5 star, which is a fair rating. I think they are trying to revamp a few things in order to make up for the locale. If walking, it is a fair distance to any other place other than the Sahara.

Don’t let the fact that it is at the far end of the Strip deter you from staying here, especially if you have a car.

I would recommend the Strat as a great value and all round decent property.

Cheers

We stayed at the Strat for 3 nights. Thanks to travelworm.com we got great rates for expensive rooms. The first night we stayed in a Spa king room. It was small but the TUB was HUGE!!! It also had jacuzzi jets :) room # 42-22-9
The second and third night we stayed in an Executive suite room # 32-22-88. VERY NICE!!! Huge bathroom w/2 sinks a huge jacuzzi tub, seperate shower, toilet was in its own room. King bed, couch that pulled out, chair, table with chairs, microwave on counter with mini fridge and sink. Very beautiful room! If you have a chance stay in one for at least one night! Both rooms had a veiw of the mountains.
Staff was VERY friendly. I also got the shaft with the $3 a day energy bill, but won money so didn't really care!
Roxi's diner was a blast! Rode the high roller! Had a GREAT time!
Cabs are spendy when staying here $3.00 to get in and $.20 1/9th of a mile, but didn't really enjoy the other hotels as much because they were so busy. This one is a little quieter being farther away.

My husband and I stayed at the Strat for our fourth anniversary 9/26-9/28. We are young (24), but have small children, so the party scene isn't really us anymore. We loved the fact that the Strat's atmosphere was so laid back. We felt completely comforatable here. When we looked at the other casinos, yes they were breathtaking and beautiful, but I had the feeling that I was expected to "stand up straight." I definitely feel that the Strat was a perfect match for us, but it might not be for someone else. It depends on what you are looking for. I saw a lot of bad reviews on this site about the strat, but I think that most of them were from people who would have found a better match somewhere else.
We checked in Friday night at 10:00 p.m. There was a short wait (about 5 minutes) to check in. All of the clerks were at the desk to keep the line moving. One thing I did learn from this site was to ask to stay in the new tower and pay the extra $10 a night to do so. I fully beleive that the older rooms were probably pretty dumpy. The clerk upgraded us to a new tower room for free. At first, that really impressed me (I still think it was a nice guesture), but then we realized that we probably had one of the worst rooms in the new tower. It was on the 6th floor, had a view of the parking garage, and we got two queens instead of a king. However, the room itself was nice. It was like any other Holiday Inn room. We closed the curtains. We realized that two queens wasn't such a bad idea. It gave us a bed to lay our clothes out on and lay the map out and use as a strategy desk and then one bed to sleep on. Oh yeah and extra pillows! Since I knew about the $3 energy charge, it wasn't a surprise and we paid it at check-in.

The casino did have a funny smell. I couldn't place it. Maybe too much air freshener? Anyway, we got used to it and it wasn't a big deal. The shops left a little to be desired, but there is a McDonald's upstairs in them. I know it sounds cheesy to eat there while in Vegas, but if you have the munchies at 2:00 am, it's cheap and the other restaraunts aren't serving anymore. There is a 24 hour cafe, but if you are getting a cheeseburger anyway...

The dealers at the tables were all very friendly. I enjoyed their company immensely. The cocktail waitresses were equally sweet. Tip them and you will get constant service. In fact, everyone we ran into that worked there was really sweet. We decided that since we were only there two nights, we didn't want maid service in between. That way we could leave everything laying out and not worry about leaving money in our room. The maid did make a special trip to make sure we didn't need anything. The bed was perfect--not too soft, not too hard, the towels were super fluffy. The shampoo bottles were cute--little plastic models of the tower. However, bring your own conditioner. I usually don't because I am afraid it will spill. Hotels usually have decent shampoo. The Strat had some sort of conditioning shampoo. I have long, curly hair and I need conditioner for tangles and moisture! We had to buy some when we were out. Of course, my husband couldn't have cared less about that.

Speaking of him, I think his favorite thing about the Strat was the sports book. He is into college football BIG TIME. And at the Strat, the sports book has swivel chairs in the football section so you can see all of the TVs. We looked at the other casino's sports book areas (because he had bets going all day), and most of them were pretty horse-race focused. Drink service was good in the sports book, too. Although maybe the waitresses just recognized us from the table games. He would watch me play and then go back to the sports book.

We did the taxi thing, but I did learn a little about that while we were out there. Yes, the cabs start at 3.00, but it isn't the distance that runs up your tab. It's the time. We took a cab to the Venetian (in our opinion the real beginning of the strip) at noon for about $12. However, the tab was only at $5 when we passed Circus Circus(about the half-way point distance wise). It was the traffic that ran it up quickly. Going back to the Strat at 7:00, we caught the cab again at the Venetian and this time (because the traffic was lighter going that direction), the cab was only $7. If you stay here, don't take a cab all the way to the other end of the strip in the middle of the day. Either only take it to the Venetian or Treasure Island and walk down one side of the street and back the other, or go at off peak times. It will cut the cost in half! You are going to the strip to walk around and see it anyway, right? In my mind, I put $10 on a gaming table without a second thought. Why is it that I would wait in a hot line for the shuttle to save $4? No thanks. Cabs are the way to go.

All in all, I think the reasons that we loved the Strat were 1) it was never crowded like everywhere else on the strip 2) the atmosphere was so relaxed. Oh yeah, and did I mention that this place is cheaper, too?

Have stayed at the Strat several times and have always had a great experience. Hotel and casino layout is easy to navigate, not like the huge hotels where you never can find the correct elevators to get to your room. Have dined at Luckys, Crazy Armadillo, Roxy's, and Top of the World. All had great service and exceptional food. Buffet is ok for the price, nothing spectacular. Rooms are basic but clean, that's really all one needs in Vegas anyway, who wants to stay in the room that much. Check in has always been fast and friendly, but if you booked thru a third party, be aware there is a $3 a day energy surcharge.
Location is probably the worst aspect of the Strat, but we take the bus up and down the strip from there and have never had any problems. (Buy the $5 - 24hour pass on the bus. Each trip is otherwise $2.)
Have always done ok in the casino and the quarterly mag with room deals based on play makes the Strat usually a great deal if not free for us. Most dealers and slot attendants are friendly. Getting a drink is usually good compared to some other casinos I've been at.
For a reasonably priced vacation to vegas, try the Strat.

Stayed at the Strat from 5/31 to 6/05/03. The room (41-21-7) was just a regular hotel room. It had a King Bed, 32" TV, drawers for clothes, desk with chair, and a typical bathroom (bathtub, toilet, and one sink). The view overlooked the parking garage and the mountains in the distance. The A/C was ran by a motion sensor so that if you left the room, it cut off. That wasn't very pleasant as it was in the the low 100's all week we were there. The other major drawback is the location. It is a long way from everything. I think our average cab fare for the week was ten dollars to go anywhere. It was 25.00 to the airport. The casino was just like any other. All in all, I don't think I would stay here again, only because of the location. If you rent a car while in Vegas, this is the best value for the money.

Great value for a strip hotel. Nothing spectacular, but if you go to Vegas to stay in the room - why go? Casino is nice, the 50s restaurant is fun and has good food. We always stay here becuuse of the value and the closeness to the strip. Get a rental car though - otherwise you'll wear your shoes out getting anywhere from the stratosphere.

Had a good time, it is a must to visit the tower. The Top of The World Restaurant was a once in a life time experience (go at sunset). Thrill seekers must ride the Big Shot. Pool was above average compared to other hotels on the strip.

First of all, I think in this case you get more than you pay for (or you ask for). Kill them with kindness is the key in this hotel. For the past 2 years, I have stayed here and simply asked for a room in the new tower and once was given a strip view at no addl. charge and last year, she gave me a mountain view at no addl. charge.

We had a problem with a naked guy running through the hall and he was occupying the room next to us and my husband went to the desk to tell them and you would have thought the naked guy had a gun. They took it VERY serious and started offering all kinds of comps. Buffets AND show tickets. It wasn't a big deal to us as it was my husband that saw the guy and not me. Nothing more than a man would see in a locker room <shrug>. I was impressed that they were right on top of it.

Food was good. Gambling was okay. I sat at the same $5 table for 9 hours and got virtually nothing but free drinks. Kinda sucked because the pit boss was sitting there flirting and when I asked (jokingly) what comps I could get, he said "play a little longer". when I got ready to get up, he was gone. I wasn't playing for the comps anyway and I was up at least $120 so I didn't care.

Had a good visit to the Stratosphere over Memorial Day weekend. Arrived late Saturday afternoon and asked for a room with a view of the strip. Not only did they give us a room with a view, but we were upgraded to a mini suite (standard room but with a jet tub). It is at the end of the strip opposite Mandalay Bay, but if you're renting a car or don't mind forking out the bucks for a cab it's really no big deal. I was able to pay less to stay at Stratosphere and rent a convertible then it would have cost to stay at MGM with no car. They have a new pool which is nice. Not as good as some of the other hotel's but it's decent. If you don't mind not being right in the middle of it all I would recommend staying here. Be sure to go up the tower at night. Great view of the city.

Stayed here for 8 days. The rooms were of average quality and size, but for the price (29.00/night) you can't beat it. Service here was very good, room service always got my order right and delivered with a smile. Top of the World resturant is an unique experience if you've never been before, plus a magnificent view of the strip.

One bit of advice, if you are on foot be prepared to cover marathon distances, as this hotel is at the very end of the strip...THE VERY END. Do not walk north unless your in the mood for a mugging...or a BJ, depends how you look at it. This is an extremely seedy part of town and should be avoided at all costs.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit and if you have your own transportation, the Strat is a good bet.

My first visit to the Stat was on a "race weekend" where room prices were over the top. We booked online and got a very good price. Stayed in the new tower and the room was a pleasant surprise... check in early and request a higher floor to get a good view of the strip. The sling shot ride on the top of the needle was a hoot! Went up there at night... talk about a thrill.

We played in the casino a fair amount and did reasonably well. I signed up for the slot club and earned enough for a free buffet for 2 in a morning of play. They honored the free buffet coupon on seafood night even... all you can eat shrimp... mmmmm

We made the hike back from the strip after midnight one night... I wouldn't reccomend it unless you have a pretty good sized group... its a rough area after dark! But took the bus after that and that was the way to go. Doesn't take long and a good value.

Have since got plenty of free offers in the mail for free weekend stays.. free weekends = good! Overall I'd reccomend this place if you don't mind the location.

we have never stayed here and decided to try it. from reading previous comments on this site i received several helpful hints.1. the 3.00 per day energy surcharge is added on to bill. when i checked in the lady told me about it. i told her that charge was not mentioned when i made reservations and she graciously said that she would remove that charge. we asked for and got a room in the new tower. it was 10.00 a night more than the old tower room (50.00 per night) it was a very nice new looking room. check in was quick and staff was friendly. we got a coupon when we checked in for a 2 for 1 admission to the american superstars show. (28.75 for 2) it was a good value and the hour and fifteen minute show was pretty good. also got a coupon upon checkin for half-price admission to the tower. (4.00) the only bad part was the blackjack dealers that where i played had zero personality and acted like zombies. the very first hand i played when i sat down dealer and i both had nineteen and she tried to take my money.
all in all i was satisfied with the stratosphere and wouls stay there again. you must realize that it is not the mirage or bellagios but is a nice comfortable place to stay. did not eat at any of the restaurants.

We arrived in Las Vegas to celebrate the 4th of July this past year, and really to visit our first ever vacation to Vegas. Having no experience in Vegas, we were unsure of where the Stratosphere was, how it was compared to other hotel casinos, or what to expect.
We knew it was not a "Bellagio" class hotel casino, and with a fixed budget for our visit, did not expect the highest class of anything. However, we definitely expected much more than we got.
One immediate downer to our trip came on the cab ride. We engaged in conversation about this being our first trip to Vegas with the cabbie, and he was giving us "The Tour", pointing out landmarks, fun spots, etc... Right as we were pulling within blocks of the visible Stratosphere, he said "And since you chose this hotel, here's the best part of your tour...If you need any crack, here's where you can get it". He was pointing out slums comparable to that which we have here in Chicago, and pointing them out directly across the street from where we were to be vacationing for four days.
After arrival, our experiences seemed to get worse. We had a group of four people altogether in one room, and thus had four room keys. At least five times per person throughout the four days, our keys stopped functioning in our door. Each time, Stratosphere folks did their best to let us know how much of an inconvenience to them we and our problems were.
At one point, the locksmith decreed that my girlfriend and I needed new room keys, and could stop down at the front desk to pick them up. We got down there, and after giving back our broken room keys and showing our ID's, asked to be issued our new room keys. Though they had our names on the reservations for that room and the record of all the room key problems we had, and we were showing our ID's, they refused to issue us room keys until we could locate my friend who originally made the reservations. Keep in mind, we are in Vegas, and had no way to locate our friend. This led to an argument with the manager, where I gladly gave him a firsthand account of all the problems we had, and how his employees had acted. He upstaged them by giving us a bigger attitude than his subordinates had.
We knew we were not going to get the quintesential "Las Vegas Experience", and were not expecting a Bellagio-style trip. However, we've gotten better treatment at roadside Motel 6's in the middle of nowhere.
Needless to say, we are very disappointed with our choice of hotel for our first trip to Vegas, but we won't be making that mistake again. Hopefully, this experience helps you to avoid the same mistake we made!

We enjoyed our stay very much at the stratosphere.Although the check in was a long process and we also felt they needed more help seating people at the buffet. The food we felt was pretty good at the buffet, nice variety. We will definetly stay again. On this trip we brought our two teenage daugthers with us they had a ball. We did very well playing blackjack the super fun 21. The pit bosses in pit one are great. Remembered are names from our last two visits.(Scott) is a super great pit boss Keep up the great work!! Most of the dealers remembered us also!! Very nice personal service. If you stay here give them a chance to get to know you. They will take very good care you, But keep a open mind!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here over my spring break (March 17-21) first of all...the front desk is SLOW! And the surprise Energy Charge. Oh, that was wonderful. We booked on expedia, and our round trip airfare and hotel for 4 nights was only 290.00 a person, so on the bases that everything was taken care of, and then getting told that, I wasn't too happy. They "claim" to be right across the street from the Sahara. Well...yeah, two blocks and on the other side of the street is more like it. If you love to walk, you'll love their location. From the Strat to MGM is a $20 cab ride. Not fun at all. Checking out was a blast, let me tell you. They had one person. ONE! We gave up waiting and used the house phone at the desk to check out, and to top it off, the computers were down. Nice HUH?! We checked in on monday, and asked for a room that overlooked the strip, I looked out my window and saw the parking garage. And to have a strip room was another $10 a day. Now that sucked. The pool looked awesome, although we were too busy to swim, unfortunately the whirlpool was shut down. Out the door went any sort of romantic idea. wake up calls were late...all in all...if you can look past all of this, it's an ok place to stay. If you want to be part of the hustle and bustle, don't stay here, stay farther down the strip, when they say they are at then end...THEY AREN'T KIDDING! The observation deck on top was ok, it could of been kept up a lil nicer, but you can't beat the view. The Lounge is pricy, but the highest seat in town, i guess you can't complain, for 1 coke and 1 jack & coke, it was 9.75, but the waitress was awesome. Very sweet. Honestly, i would probably stay here again only if i rented a car.

We stayed at the Stratosphere March 18-23. Room was OK - asked for a room in new tower with a view of the strip; had a room on the 21st floor with a fair view of the strip. Yes, they tacked on the $3.00/night energy charge. Casino was OK - didn't do anything too extraordinary there. Buffet was horrible - eat at Roxy's or Lucky's instead of buffet if you have the chance. Appreciated the security at the elevators once the war broke out, had to show room key to get to elevator. Had read how slow the elevators were, but we found them to be very fast, not a problem at all. Checked out via TV, which was great, as airport shuttle was waiting for us. Only problem with Strat is the location - need to take a taxi or trolley to get anywhere. Probably wouldn't stay here again just because of the location. Saw Viva Las Vegas - good afternoon show!

This is a very nice hotel - staff was friendly and the room (although a little small) was nice -- the only two things that I have to say negative about this hotel is that the pool (although large) is only 2 ft deep and that the hotel is so far away from everything - but if you don't mind driving and if the pool isn't the biggest reason for staying at a hotel - this would be a good place to stay - and the price is very reasonable!

This place is just OK. Don't really like gambling in the casino, but the room was fine and we got a great deal ($160 for 4 nights including weekend). The service was suspect. We had 3 people in the room and they kept leaving us 2 towels. When we did request one, it took 40 minutes to get it. The location can be a positive or a negative. If you have a car and like to move around town including downtown, it's great. If you don't have a car and like to concentrate on the glam strip properties, it's probably not so great. Probably won't be returning.

We reserved a room through hotels.com at a good rate. Upon check in they added a $3.00 a day "energy fee". This is a way for them to jack up the rate. They also advertise that they have room safes on their web site. They have not had safes for 2 YEARS. False advertising, attempts to extort money and poor staffing guarantee that I won't stay there again. By the way, if you complain, they don't charge the energy fee! What a racket.
Find a different place to stay- with more honest policies!!

Good value for the money. Stayed in winter '03 and got a fairly good deal ($40 for me and a friend). We were placed in the way back of the hotel, but the room was nice, clean, and fair sized. Nothing spectacular, but it did the job well. Service was fine and non-intrusive. There are plenty of places to eat there. The breakfast buffet in particular was a real good value. It was $6 for all you can eat. The casino is good, although I did most of my gambling elsewhere. One problem is that it is at the far end of the strip so I ended up driving to the other casinos and couldn't drink.

Bottom line: great value, a little bit away from the main action.

The staff turned a bad visit into a very satisfied customer. I got an excellent rate through travelworm, $170 for six nights including the weekend.

Upon checking in the desk associate asked if I would like a mini suite instead
and this sounded great, upon entering the room it was awful and smelled really
bad. House cleaning was preparing a room down the hall and I took a looksee and
it was great (regular room). I went downstairs and complained and they handled it graciously with a smile. The new room they gave me was a players room on the 22nd floor with a beautiful view of the strip.

Upon returning from my trip many people asked me about the location at the begining of the strip. For me it was excellent because we had a rental car.
The access in and out of the Strat is excellent. I used the valet parking and
compared to the other casinos I visited for dinners & shows, none can compare to the Strat for convenience in getting in and out.

Also the strat is known for the best comps bar none.

Speaking as someone who works in the hotel industry, I have a few things to say. For all you people complaining about the $3 "energy" tax that they charge, just take a look at all the money you lose gambling. Trust me, if you cant afford a $3 little incentive tax that they add to your bill, then maybe you cant afford to go on vacation at all. And for those people complaining about the safe, why are you bringing things of value with you on your trip?? If they mean so much to you, then why would you be dumb enough to risk losing it on your vacation? Dont get me wrong, this hotel isnt exactly the Ritz, and I can understand the people complaining about the service and the rooms not being made up and stuff like that, but when it comes to small service charges and safes, gimme a break.

This could be a really good hotel but I guess they are cutting a bunch of corners to save money. I stayed at 3 different hotels on this trip and staying here was my only regret on this trip. (This and taking the Eagles over the colts on every parlay). Service was below what I would expect from a economy hotel though everyone did give their best they seemed understaffed here. The rooms are standard economy size - what you would get at any road side chain hotel/motel. The rooms look worn but clean. The food is basic and the buffett below average. The casino layout is poor. The lounge act was good while I was there but the Crazy Armidillo was a waste of time. The location probably hurts this hotel more than anything else. It is isolated from the rest of the strip and doesn't really have enough on its own to keep you entertained here for more than one or two nights. If you are looking for a low priced room you would do better to stay at the Boardwalk or Royal and be right in the mix of things on the strip.

Stayed at the Strat for 4 nights over Thanksgiving. Received a deal for 2 nights @ $39, so we gave it a try. We heard that the comps were very good here.
We arrived very late on Tuesday and check in was a breeze. Got to the room and found it to be very clean, but plain. Not a lot of bells and whistles here, just your standard room.
Rented a car since the Strat is so far down the strip. It is your best bet it you stay here. Cabs can be rather expensive to travel back and forth, it's cheaper to just rent a car during your stay. However, a word of advice. If you rent from Budget at the Strat be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes getting your car.
The Casino? Video poker was very tight first two days. Thursday night must have been 4 of a kind give away! Hit about 5 times on three different machines. Had to wait some time to get pay-outs though. Friday, 4 deuces! YIPPY, $625! That helps.
Now the food service. Lucky's and Roxy's didn't impress us at all. Service was slow and food was average. Hostess actually had to take our breakfast order on Wednesday and bring our order.
Can't decide if we will stay here again. We normally stay at Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay, so this was a BIG change for us. Guess it depends on the "deals" they send and if we want a last minute trip at great rates. We go to Vegas about 3- 4 times a year. So we know what is out there.
If you want an inexpensive place to stay and don't mind driving, this place isn't bad I guess.

Stayed from 9/18 to 9/26. Paid the casino rate, $25 per night, a great value. Ask for one of the rooms that ends with a 50 when you check in. We stayed in 31950, a corner room with a fridege, two big windows and a terrific view of the strip. These are the Player's Suites and go for an extra $25 a night, but if they are empty you can get one for no extra charge. We won on VP (plenty of 9/6 machines) and the new Regis slots. Played some at the tables and all of the dealers whom we encountered were friendly. There is a new Margarita Bar upstairs near the shops called "Fat Tuesdays" and it was excellent. We will definately stay there again.

The Stratosphere is an excellent Hotel and Casino. The price we paid was only $29 a night. Outstanding! It has an excellent casino and we even found a $3 BJ table. We won a little and had a nice time at the tables. The cafe does a nice breakfast. Great place, just a bad location.

This place is inconviently located way at the end of the strip. If you have a car (we did) that is not a problem. We stayed in the new tower and the room was clean and bright. The maid service as good. The casino is real nice. It is airy, clean and uncrowded. The tower is cool (but you have to pay to go up there) and the two thrill rides at the top are awesome. You won't find very many children here. A great value for the price.

Considering some of the negative reviews we had read, my fiance and I found the Stratosphere to be a good value for the money. We had a fantastic view of the strip from our hotel room and the room was clean and comfortable! Elevators and ice machines were close to our room. The casino was conveniently located to the elevators and we did well at the slots and tables. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the Courtyard Buffet and found the service, choices, and food more than acceptable. The food was tasty and fresh. Some of the selections were a little bland for my taste, but then again I eat a lot of spicy foods. Just simply add a little salt or pepper and you're fine. Staff were friendly. My fiance really enjoyed the casino lounge band. The only complaint we have is the depth of the pool. We are not sure if this is standard for pools in Vegas, but the one at the Stratosphere was only 3.5' deep. Not really conducive for someone who likes to swim and dive. Anyway, who had time to swim with so many places to go??? All in all, we had a fantastic time at the Stratosphere and we are already planning our return visit.

I did not have high expectations after receiving an offer for 2 free weekend nights, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Stratosphere. The rooms are pretty average by Vegas standards, but mine was functional and comfortable. I had a nice view looking south at the Strip from the 18th floor. The hotel is pretty easy to navigate around and there are several sets of elevators depending on which part of the hotel you are staying at. The food was pretty decent - Roxy's diner served large portions at reasonable prices (although the service was a tad slow). The view from the top of the Tower is a must see at sunset. Hotel guests get a discount on tickets to the top. I suggest you get their at least 1/2 hour before sunset to beat the rush, particularly on the weekends. The location is still a drawback - I strongly suggest renting a car if you want to see any other casinos besides Sahara. On the plus side, if you do have a car, the drive to get downtown/Freemont St. is pretty quick from here.

If you like to gamble, this is the place for you. Banks of 10/6 and 9/7 jacks or better, also 10-7 double-bonus poker. Single-zero roulette. Be aware of the strange rules on the single-deck blackjack though. All in all, for the money, you can't beat this place. Just stay away from the buffet - worst in town!

We stayed there 8/04 for 5 nights. The first thing was the smell; I don't know what the exact odor was. The next thing I notice was the line to check in(the computer was down) almost 2hrs later (did give us bottled water while waiting in line) we get the room. I ask for an upgrade and am told I was given the players suite (the same one that is pictured as a standard room on the net). That was our first impression of the Strat. We arrive in the room tired and hungry and want to order room service; well the directory was missing and the button on the phone does not work and the front desk was to busy to help. I needed some water so I go look for the ice machine and have to walk quite a distance; on the way I come across 2 of the housekeeping staff and ask for the directory to no avail. I finally get my directory and order; the room service was quick and good. The cool thing is the mall right there!! The machines were tight!!! The money back was $22 for the half hour of $1 machines for the 2 of us. The comp system is.....BAD!!!!!!!!...... We played enough the first night to rate, but for the next two days we played tourist and didn't play any, so after a hard day at the slots I went up to the players club and was told since I didn't get 330 points EACH day I would only be able to get 2 free buffets, That is all no matter What else I play; needless to say we went to the Palms and the Las Vegas Hilton(I LIKE)to finish my gambling. One other complaint I had was: the room service server came to bring our breakfast and I was in my husbands robe while he was in the shower the man asked me if I was "working". It took me a minute since I thought he meant I was in Vegas for a convention(We go to one each Jan)then I realized he thought I was a call girl(the room was in my name:LINDA). He apologized when he saw me look angry and left. I can also take it as a compliment since I was in a mans robe,40yo and just woke up. What you have to do is go up to the tower and watch the sunset over the mountains and the light come on.( get the first booth as you exit the elevators and you get the best view).

Decided to stay at the Stratosphere this last trip due to freebies I received in the mail and advertising claims of the place being the best hotel/casino value on the Las Vegas Strip. In retrospect, my views on the property are mixed.

PROS: The place is relatively new and modern, with ample entertainment amenities, including live lounge entertainment at night and a big game center for the kids, and multiple dining outlets ranging from fast-food to fine dining. The place has a new pool deck, and, of course, the roller-coaster and big-shot ride on top of the 1,000-foot tower. In terms of gaming, the casino is sizable and spacious, with all of the latest slots and requisite table games with fairly low minimums (including $3 blackjack and $2 craps). The rooms are clean but functional (with almost a motel quality to them), and you can often get rooms here at bargain-basement rates compared to other comparable hotels on the Strip. I was quoted a weekday rate of $29.95 over the phone for a room in the new wing.

CONS: The biggest drawback to the Stratosphere is its lousy location at the far, far northern end of the Strip. You could argue that the hotel is not even on the Strip, as it lies one block north of Sahara Avenue, which is commonly regarded as its northern boundary. Yes, you can get out and walk south toward the Sahara and Circus-Circus, but part of the walk is in a not-so-glamorous little neighborhood dotted with tattoo parlors and sundry shops, a place where the safest time of day is from 9 to 5, if you know what I mean. Also, it is a fairly long jaunt to nearby properties, unlike the center and middle Strip where hotel properties are generally right next to each other. Secondly, and probably not quite as important as the first, is my impression that the Stratosphere was built and enhanced to appeal to people who are looking for lots of services and amenities but don't want to spend a lot of money for them. You can tell in the "basic" decor of the rooms and in the comfy but not plush ambience of the casino and public areas. Not that this is bad, but it's not everyone's idea of the Vegas experience we have come to know.

In truth, I intended to stay four nights, but became bored with being isolated in one place, checked out after two nights and moved to the Barbary Coast, in the best location, center Strip, only $10 more per night than the Stratosphere. Worth the extra cost in my estimation.

My second visit in 2 years. Had room in the new tower, 23rd floor. Great view of the South strip and pool deck on 8th floor.

Check-in took about 10 minutes including waiting in line. They have a secondary check-in near the escalator leading to the parking deck...very convienient.

The room was very clean, but walls seemed thin. Had some noisy neighbors and had to pound on wall 2 nights in a row at 2:30 AM.

Casino had $2 craps until Sunday, when it went up to $5. My friend did well on a 5 cent Joker Wild machine.

I always rent a car in Vegas, so the location did not bother me. Plus, I saw no problems on the streets surrounding hotel. The car was only $19.99 per day, and gave me the freedom to come and go as I pleased. I would recommend it.

Fellini's Italian Rest. was excellent. Veal Parm. crisp and tender. Sauce very good. Friend had Fettucini Alfredo, also good. Service superb.

Breakfast buffet adequate. Omelet station. Just a few pastries to choose from.
Fresh fruit fair.

Pool is new and large. Nice snack bar. Bar had Bud, Molsens and Bass Ale on Tap.

Having a reservation did nothing to enhance our "check in" as it took over 2 hours for the the clerk to find us a room. We did the reservation so as to avoid the unexpected as we needed a wheelchair accessible room. We ended up with a shower room but the bedroom was so small otherwise that the wheelchair made it impossible to access the room. There were no amenities, the hotel itself was dirty, the elevators were dirty. The high priced dinner in the stratosphere tower should embarass them to charge this. The only claim to fame here is the beautiful view which isn't theirs. We were very disappointed and feel it necessary to write this in order to let others know of the poor facilities that are offered here for the wheelchair bound. the small lift to take to the outside deck is not only to noisy but you are expected to wait 20-30 minutes for an available attendant to operate the lift. This hotel does not cater to the handicapped at all. All of the casino machines have stationery chairs, I do not believe they want our company or our money. So be it!

My wife and I stayed at the Stratosphere for three nights in June, 2002. We got a good air/hotel package through MLT vacations out of St. Louis. I was pleasantly surprised by the Strat. The rooms were clean and it looked like the furnishings were fairly new. We stayed in the newer tower. The rooms did feel a little cramped (we had a king room). The bathroom was good sized, but we had a jacuzzi room, so that may have made a difference in the price. Upon check-in, we paid an extra $75 for the three nights to get a jacuzzi tub room with a strip view. I don't know if it was worth it, but the room was already so cheap it didn't seem like a bad deal. I did notice that the rooms didn't seem to have the best noise insullation. If you stay there and have a noisy neighbor, this could be a problem. Luckily, we had quiet neighbors. The new pool area was very nice. It was hot as hell during our stay, so the cool water was great. We like to sit by the pool and veg out during the day and the pool deck was great. It was much nicer than the pool area at the Golden Nugget were we usually stay. GN has servers taking drink orders at your lounge chair, which Strat lacked, but the pool area and pool itself at Strat was great even without the drink service. We only ate at one restaraunt at the Strat, Felini's Tower of Pasta. We thought the food was good and the service was great. The food quality was much higher than say an Olive Garden, but with similar prices. I had the Gnocci and I can recommend it to anyone who likes that dish. Their salads were also very tasty. I didn't do too well gambling at the Strat. I was down on craps, roulette and Let It Ride. I did win at the Sahara on Let It Ride, but that is another story for another day. They had a Crapless Craps table, which is no fun to play. I think they put that game out there for suckers. It did have a $2 minimum at some times, so that wasn't bad if you want to waste some time. Let It Ride was fun. All of the dealers were friendly. The drink service seemed to be universally poor during my stay. Maybe some people called in sick. I know some of the guys playing Let It Ride with me were upset with the service. Overall, for the price, the Strat is a great place to stay. It is clean with all of the amenities you would expect from a Vegas hotel. The pool was great, as was the food that we tried. We had a rental car, so the location wasn't bad for us. The trip was a thumbs up and I would stay at the Stratosphere again.

We're not quite sure what the other reviewers experienced, but we loved
the Stratosphere. Our room was very nice (not a great view, but we didn't
ask for one and didn't particularly care), cool, and smelled nice. The
shower wasn't the greatest, but it was fine, and we've seen a lot worse.
We had no trouble with noise or anything of the kind. The bell captains
were extremely helpful. The pit bosses and dealers were all very friendly,
and the casino itself was fine. The best part about the Stratosphere is
Fellini's, their Italian restaurant. You simply must check it out. It's on the
pricey side, but well worth the money. The only problem we had was with
one blackjack-playing moron who felt he should be able to have his own
$5 table to himself. But that was a minor distraction. We would gladly stay
there again. The location issue doesn't seem too important if you have a
car. We found ourselves driving a lot anyway. We should add that we also
spent a couple of nights at the Stardust during our stay, but we liked the
Stratosphere better.

What can I say? Everything was AAAplus in my book. The Stratosphere is unpretentious yet nice enough for anyone's standards. The Rooms, bright, spacious, clean, though a little sparse (I had a STD. King room) 2 hard back chairs and a table up against the wall that I used for a desk. Would have liked either a comfortable desk chair on casters, or a cushy lounger to complete the rooms comfort level. The phone cord was long enough to reach from the bedside nitestand to the desk so I could data port my laptop. The only thing that really turned me off about the room was that the Iron was attached/bolted to the Ironing board.... so one could not have full use of the ironing surface. The bath was large with a huge tub/shower combo. RoomService was always very prompt--though I never ordered full meals to my room...ordered up coffee several times and was always told would be there in "about 20 minutes"----they were always there in less than 10!!! Same promptness experienced with the bell service also. My VIP Host was a jewel (kudos to Connie!), guess I gave them enough play that everything was covered. All the rest of the staff: casino, security, restaurants, all; were most friendly courteous and helpfull. Guess the casino is loose by strip standards; came home ahead tho I lost everywhere else deeper into the strip. The casino floor is spacious and well lighted. Yes, yes, YES!!! I will def. stay here again.

Reserved a room for the beginning and end of the week with the expectations that we would get a room with a view and nicely furnished. Unfortunaly we experienced bad luck right away. We were put in a room on the 19th floor facing away from the strip with no view. Add insult to injury we had to put on all the lights in the middle of the day in order to have any brightness in our room. Very dark and depressing. Accepting this as the worse that it could be took a shower only to find that we had a slow drain and ended up with water up to my ankles. The sink also drained slow and that was the last straw. Waiting to cool down after having a nice dinner at PF Chang, asked to be moved and got a room in the new tower with a large window and better floor plan. Bigger bathroom and a tub that drains. Long walk to the pool area and fitness center but that was ok. Also the hotel is located in a very bad section of the strip. In fact while we were there, a shooting happened at the corner of the Sahara Blvd and a person was killed. Not very confident knowing that this could have happended to me or my husband. Although the view from the tower was awesome, I would not stay here again. Too far from the hub of the strip so it's not easy to go back and forth more than once a day unless you don't mind a pricey cab ride or a slow trolley. Next time we'll pay a higher price and stay closer to the center of the strip. Definately a disapointment. One positive thing I'll say is the bell service was excellent expecially, Josh of San Diego who was super. The maid was less desirable. Left a $5.00 tip to leave extra towels but left only one extra. Another maid barged into our room although I told her my husband was not fully dressed. Totally ignored us and kept coming in cause she lost her badge. Very insensitive. Sorry for the bad review but those are the facts and we are usually very easy pleasing people however, enough is enough!!

I live in Las Vegas and over the years have really come enjoy going to the Top of the World Resturant at the Stratosphere. I have lots of house guest come to visit and I always try to include a trip to this resturant. Well I went last night and to my surprise they now have metal detectors set up at the tower elevators. The security gurad demamded that I surrender my pocket knife that has a 3.75 inch blade. I asked him if I would recieve a steak knife with my dinner and he said "yes". I then asked why I had to surrender my personal property and I got the unthinking and unreasonable responce that it is their "policy". I don't think much of companies that make "policies" without thnking about them and have their employees so intimated that they say and do nothing. I will never go to this hotel again, nor will I allow any member of my family to do so. I can see from this incident that any problems I may have at this hotel for any reason will be met with indifference and unyeilding stupidity and a complete lack of sense. This whole incident was so unreasonable as to be almost unreal.

My friends and I stayed 4 nights at the Stratosphere. The rooms were only OK, hard beds. The staff in the casino were the real headache. The cocktail waitresses ignored anyone at the nickel slots, one of my friends finally became so fed-up with this treatment that she asked to speak to the food and beverage manager. Unfortunately the manager was no better, same treatment. I like table games so at least I could get a drink, but watch out for the dealers. I ran into a dealer who was so unpleasant that I cashed in and reported him to the casino manager. For the rest of our trip we slept at the Stratosphere but played elsewhere.

What a dump! Came here because of the "deal", but no deal here! The room was aweful - small, smelly and loud! You could hear everything around you! the tower was another bad experience. You have to wander thru miles of low end mall shops to even get to it. Once at the top, the view was nice, but nothing else was. We stopped to have cocktails in the restaurant at the top of the tower, and we were seated next to this loud, foul-mouthed hooker who wouldn't stop talking and screaming the "F" word. We complained to the manager, only to be offered a free drink. The last thing we wanted to do was stay there! The location sucks! It's on the seedy side of the strip and not close to anything. So, you have to spend alot of money on cabs, which cancels out the money you save on the room. And don't try to walk anywhere around there, unless you're armed. Horrible!!!

I just returned from a visit at the Strathosphere in LV. It was a clean, average hotel room. Nothing spectacular but it was defintely a bargain to stay there. The dealers are cool, took a 10:30 craps lesson which I would recommend and now I know the game pretty well I would say. If you leave tips for room service they will basically give you whatever you want. I requested extra towels and wash clothes, left two dollars and had enough for three days. : )
Great experience, only drawback they had was their location which you could get over for the price.

First time visit. Impressed with rooms/housekeeping service.Easy check in & out!
Tower of Pasta restaurant, good value, excellant service,2-3 people attended to
us,in addition to the waiter! Rock & Roll restaurant ok, but they put way
too much shredded lettuce on the "turkey club". If you you order it ,tell them to cut the lettuce portion in half!
If you go to the race/sports book.(I love the horses!)Let the cocktail waitress
get your free drinks, you can get anything you want!!! But if you use the free
drink tickets they give you after betting, when you go to the bar,you can only
get "well" drinks, beer or wine.!!!!!!! Go figure.! Slots tight!

This hotel was recommended by some friends of ours. What a dump! We checked in and asked for an upgrade, we were told they could upgrade,it would either be a room with a view of the strip, or a mini suite. We thought cool! We opted for the suite, which was ok. Friends in our group who had never been to Vegas took the view. They are smokers but had to purchase candles so they could stay in the room, because it smelled so bad. The carpet was so nasty, they kept their shoes on the whole time. Which was difficult, due to the blisters they encountered walking. The food was less than appetizing. The did have a 50's type diner that had good food and great service. All of the employees were very friendly, especially the valet and dealers. The major complaint were the comps. We stayed 5 days and gambled there about 12 hours each day. Our rooms were not comped. The only comps we received were 1 meal for four and a 10 dollar bill. We normally stay at the Riviera or Lady Luck, comped of course. This hotel is all by itself, and if it is going to compete it better remodel and intice the customer back to it facility

My wife and I typically make two trips to Vegas each year. In the Winter, we try to go the least expensive route while staying on the Strip and in the Summer we go more for luxury.

Obviously, there were some good and bad points to staying at the Strat. When we first tried to make reservations using our Slot Club discount, we were told that due to there being a large convention, we could not use it. After checking Vegas.com, the convention talked about was scheduled to have 12,000 attendees-not many by Vegas standards. Still, we worked the system and were able to stay here fairly cheap.

Check-in was fine. There were about a half dozen parties in front of us around 10:30 on a Friday night. The line moved along nicely. The clerk was friendly. I asked for an upgrade and was quoted differenct prices for the upgrades. I let it be known (nicely) that I was looking for something with no extra cost but the best I was told was that for an extra $30/night we could get a room with a jacuzzi tub. Sorry, too much for just bubbles that may be used once.
We go to our room on the 22nd floor and it has two "queen" size beds. "Queen" because they looked more like full sized ones to us. Anyway, we had reserved a room with a king-size bed. The view was towards downtown-not great. Upon going to the casino, my wife noticed the door did not want to close completely and pulled it shut with some effort. Went to the casino and played some slots. I had better luck on the slots than she did for a change-usually it's the other way around. After this, we went South across the street for a very good deal on steak and eggs. Food was good and the cost was very good. Can't remember the name of the place, but it's directly South of the Strat. After eating, we went back upstairs and found our key would not work. Went to the front desk and were helped right away. Clerk told us to make sure the door was fully closed because the keys wouldn't work if they weren't. Back at the room, the door wasn't fully closed!!! Obvious that someone had opened it since we last left. Nothing missing, nothing rearranged--it has happened to us in other cities where we are given a key to an already occupied room, so don't think to much of it. Off to sleep in a pretty soft bed.
Next morning we decide to request a different room. We are serviced quickly and finally we get a King size bed and now the view is of the Strip. This is the best view we have ever had. The door still won't shut easily but with some of my own modifications, it's better than before. The toilet wouldn't flush on the first try but after you learn the trick of pulling the lever down a few times in a row, you get it to work-too much hassle.
We do our usual stuff of visiting other hotels/casinos, places we haven't been to yet as well as our favorite places. Good luck here, bad luck there on each day. The best luck and most fun was playing craps at the Sahara (which by the way is not a very long walk-5 minutes). We both are new at this game, but with help from the dealers and other players, we turn $20 into $110 in a couple hours, this after losing $70 at BJ.
Last night in Vegas, we went to Roxy's Diner. We found this place on the last trip and like it a lot. Service may be a little slow and for a "burger joint" it's kinda expenisive-but the entertainment and atmosphere makes the waiting and money worth it, not to mention the food is pretty good also.
Check-out on the TV is a great way to go. We had no problems with it-we usually don't.
Overall, the Strat is OK in our opinion. The rooms maybe a little cleaner than the Sahara but certainly not as well maintained as MGM Grand or Mirage. You get what you pay for. The casino is nice enough, pretty clean with plenty of options. We really don't care for the nickle slots dropping out the coins right away when you win-kinda makes it hard to keep track if your doing well or not. Quarter slots didn't treat us very well but that's all part of the game.
Will we stay here again? I doubt it-unless the deal is too good to refuse. For the money-we prefer the Sahara-not as new, but more fun to play.
We will continue to hit different places to stay for a while, but the Strat is not high on the repeat list.

I didn't have high expectations for this place - stayed there on weekend to avoid strip rates, then moved on. What a surprise - place was nice. More elbow room here than most casinos. Best overall VP pay tables on strip. Room was OK, nothing special, weird pipe noises sometimes at night. Thermostats are hit/miss affairs and with luck you might be able to stabilize temp by 3rd day. The afternoon show Viva LV (helps to have Stratoblaster cocktail in hand) is an absolute hoot. Top of the World restaurant is somewhat overpriced, but view is stunning. Casino never seemed crowded. Location not good - only within walking distance to Olympic Gardens (yay!) and the Sahara (ho-hum) - rest of world is a cabride away. I hate shopping, but the retail level had decent variety of stores. Wouldn't stay a whole trip here, but would definitely stay over a weekend again.

This hotel looks two minutes from everywhere in Las Vegas, keep in mind you
are probably 1/2 hour by cab! The highlight of this hotel, is the service at the slots! We gambled at the Bellagio, and literally waited 45 minutes for someone to come over to our machine, and then waited for a payout! The Stratosphere payout staff were at our machine within a minute! It is a tedious job, and we tipped well. We reserved a month ahead of time for a jacuzzi suite, and checking the price on line in that last week before we arrived, we would have saved $100! The "jacuzzi" was an oversized tub in the bathroom. I've seen better jacuzzi's in the Comfort Inn with the jacuzzi in the "bedroom". The main reason we were in Las Vegas was for a grappling tournament, and when he and a frined went to the "gym" in the hotel to work out, they were expected to pay and it closed at 7 P.M., and this was a Friday night. I have to reiterate though, the service we recieved was good, but the accomadations sucked.

We played quite a bit at the stratosphere, and was very disappointed at the gaming action. We couldn't hit anything on the slots, first time that this has happened there, you can usually at least find one decent machine. It looks like they have really tightened the place up, which is a huge mistake because they need to be a little looser considering their seedy location. We had intended on going to the afternoon show, which is advertised as 2:1, but the box office gal was so rude that we decided to pass on it. The buffet is not nearly the quality that we found elsewhere.

Got VERY good room rates for a first time visit ($18.00/night). Very clean no-smoking room that was on a no smoking floor and did NOT smell of smoke as some do.

Casino was great with friendly dealers and waitresses. Buffet was very good for breakfast (GREAT Western Omlettes), other buffet meals so-so. Roxies can go.

Overall value was so good I'm going back in two weeks at $15.00/night for 3 nights.

Just stay clear of The Plaza hotel and Casino!!!!!

The rooms were cheap enough with the coupons we used from the slot club promotion. After signing up for the slot club and losing during the first 30 minutes, we were sent a voucher for the amount we lost plus 10%, and coupons that got us 4 nights for a total of $38.

The rooms are very basic. Not much more than a motel 6 room only larger. We were in the new building and friends of ours were in the older sections. Not a lot of difference in the rooms.

The casino is surprisingly large and I enjoy playing there. The slot club is reasonable and we've been treated fairly well.

The restaurant selection could be better and the buffet has to be one of the worst in the city. They have a new pool deck but we didn't bother to check it out.

The best thing about the Stratosphere is the tower. The Top of the World restaurant is very good and offers the best view of the city. It rotates completely about once every hour. The rides are pretty good also. The Big Shot is one of the greatest thrill rides I've been on. The roller coaster would be pretty lame if it weren't for the fact it's 1,000 ft above the ground.

Overall, it's a decent place to stay if your budget is limited. If you have a little more money, I'd be staying somewhere else.

I had a very nice stay at the Strat. The room was clean and had a nice view of downtown. I like the new pool. The casino at Stratosphere has been a favorite of mine for some time. Yes, the location isn't the greatest....but the bus is easily accessed and walking is always a nice way to burn off a buffet. There always seems to be plenty of taxis available too. Great price for a room that you only use for a few hours a night anyway.

As a disabled person I was pushed into a room overlooking the heating outlets.....the noise was awful.
The rest of our group had wonderful rooms overlooking the strip...being disabled-you pay the same and are treated badly!
So no, I would not visit this hotel again as they were not at all 'sympathetic' when we asked them to change our room, and the reason we wanted to change.

I stayed at the Stratosphere for 6 nights to attend a computer course. This hotel is a great value for a Mega-resort. The standard rooms aren't great and the bathroom is very small, but then I didn't stay in the room much, only to catch a few Z's. The hotels biggest negative is it's location. Until a few other Mega-resorts a built on the vacant lots nearby and at this end of the strip, the Stratosphere stands alone and boy does the tower stand... makes for finding the hotel a piece of cake. As I understand, the recent additions and remodeling are now complete and should prove to further the value of this hotel.

The Stratosphere is at the top of the strip. Casino seems to be busy most of the time. Rooms are very nice, though you have to walk a bit to get to them.
The value is often much better than the lower strip places and many of the machines have better pay-outs. Everyone should go up to the top and take in the view- SPECTACULAR, especially at night. The one drawback I've found is the area around the hotel isn't always the best. Most of the time, no problem, but you may want to make sure someone is with you at night if you plan on taking a stroll. The bus & trolley stop here as well as constant taxis, so unless you are planning on walking, this would have no effect on you.
I've stayed a couple of times and found the place to be clean and excellent service!

My smoking room was clean, but did have a stuffy odor. We were on the top floor in the older part of the hotel. The toilet tub area was a bit small, but the sink being in the room made sharing the bathroom facilities with my husband easier. I hear they are one of the few hotels offering mini safes in the room. The maid service was unobtrusive, all we did was ask them for clean towels in the hall for the most part. Their soap smells nice and they give you the bigger travel bars. The phone cord was long enough to make using our laptop on the net easy. I think this is a great location if you plan to visit both the strip and downtown areas. A rental car while staying here is a big plus. The hotel does back up against a lower income type of neighborhood, which may intimidate you if you are from a small town or rural area, but I didn't see any shady characters or anything to worry about during an entire weeks stay. It's close to convenience, grocery, liquor and souveneir stores, which can save you money over having to buy the overpriced stuff in the hotel store. This casino has the best video poker and some of the best slot payouts in Vegas. When I went they had 100% payout and 10/7 jacks or better video poker. The cocktail service was great, especially if you tip for good luck. The Crazy Armadillo was a fun place to hang out, Fellini's Tower Of Pasta was great, and the all night coffee shop was nice, and flexible about ordering meals that were supposed to be served at different times. Also since I managed to rack up 49 comp points they automatically, without asking, gave us a players reduction in our room rate! I will definitley go back unless I score a comped room playing at a different casino.

The view at the stratosphere is the only thing it has going for them. We visited the casino to ride the rides. Ashtrays in the halls were filled with pop and filth everywhere. Staff very horrible. We had a convertible Vette and that is the only hotel that asked us to put up the top due to the area and afraid of getting mugged. Valet didnt even pull our car around, they gave us the keys to go get it ourselves. Going up to the tower they treated us like we were terrorists. Made my boyfriend stand back and searched him. VERY unpleasent. Not recommend for higher class unless you want to get mugged. bad location on the strip. Just horrible all around I would never stay there.

We were lucky to have an executive suite which was fabulous. It had a view up the strip and a jacuzzi.

We ate at the Top of the World which was a world class restaurant both in food and view. I am told at lunchtime the prices are much better and of course going to this restaurant gets you a free ride to the roof, if you dont get enough view from the revolving restautant

I like gaming in this casino, but the day we were there they were renovating and a lot of good video poker machines were out of order.

They have a vary good hostess here, Wanda, who used to be at MSS and seems to have taken some of her clients with her.
