Date Visited: 12/03 - Bad Visit As I approached Texas Station I said: Wow! This must be the biggest casino in the world. I soon learned that size has its drawbacks: Long lines at their fast food outlets; sloppy food courts; overloaded rubbish receptacles and crude customer relations. After a while, I felt like I was on Broadway in Los Angeles on a Saturday afternoon. After gulping down some overpriced spaghetti & meatballs -- standing-up as all the tables were occupied -- and dropping $390 on a variety of slot machines, I came upon their packed poker room. I went to the Board and said: Put me up on the Two & Four. "We don't play Two & Four here," she retorted, as if Two and Four Dollars was chicken feed. As I searched for an Exit amid the thousands of noisy slots and teenagers coming into and out of their Megaplex, I remembered that the operators of Station Casinos are proponents of the "A-Local-Casino-in-Every Neighborhood" game plan. That explains why there's only one "big" winner each month. All the other players essentially leave broke so that the owners can erect another casino with the money we lose! I think they have ten now: Palace Station, Santa Fe Station, Boulder Station, Sunset Station, Green Valley Station, Barley's Station, Wild West Station, Fiesta Station I, Fiesta Station II, ad nauseum. Coming soon: Red Rock Station and another Castaway's Station (all in Las Vegas). Punch line: If you want to contribute to their construction fund, be sure to drop by Texas Station. <GOALTAM -at- COX.NET> - Las Vegas CA USA - Added 12/19/04 - [68.108.157.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 09/03 - Good Visit We had visited this casino on a previous trip to Las Vegas because we had heard it was a place that the locals played, and liked it so much we decided to come back here and stay at the hotel. It was just great! The casino has everything you could want, from penny slots up to great table games. The employees are friendly and courteous. The hotel rooms aren't fancy, but they're clean and comfortable AND they're close to the casino floor. (Last year we stayed on the strip and had to walk about 5.2 miles to get from the room to the casino. At least it seemed that far.) The slot machines are modern and with very few exeptions pay off by printing a ticket rather than dropping coins. Now if you're one of those people who go around from machine to machine dropping a quarter here and there or you love getting your hands filthy, you probably wouldn't like this, but if you HATE it when the machine has almost finished dropping your coins and then stops and you have to wait for an attendant to fill your machine to get your last 8 coins, etc etc, you will love this feature. It also helps if you don't like the way your machine is going and you want to change, just cash out and take your ticket to another machine and play that one instead. For the first time, I tried table games this trip and everyone from the dealers to the pit bosses to the shift bosses were very friendly and helpful, offering suggestions and advice on how best to maximize my chances of winning. If you've never tried three-five-seven poker, it was a lot of fun, especially with a lot of players. The food here is also terrific. I have eaten at their buffet on my previous trip and it was good. This trip I tried to stay away from the buffet because I always seem to eat more than I want, and stuck to the Cafe or the food court mostly. The Cafe offers an enormous selection at very reasonable prices (try the eggs benedict, they were outstanding) with some great late night specials. One final suggestion, call ahead and talk to a casino host. Let them know you're coming, see what they can do for you in advance, then stay in touch during your visit and see what comps you may have earned with your play at the casino. We were treated to a complimentary dinner at the Austin Steakhouse and it was terrific, and the price was just right!! Our casino host was Jennifer and while I understand she is new at her job, she made us feel very special. All in all, I can't think of anything I'd change at Texas Station. <walt1406 -at- comcast.net> - Woodbridge VA USA - Added 09/22/03 - [68.86.25.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit This was our first visit off the strip. We decided to try a locals place to see if we couldn't do better at the slots. We arrived on Saturday night (23 Aug 03) and check in was fast and cordial. We made our way to the gaming floor and saught out our favorites slots. They were running a little cold that night so we decided to try again in the AM. Yes, better luck then. It's true, the slots are looser off the strip. We hit some nice jackpots and were quite a bit ahead. We ate at the Austin Steakhouse and it was GREAT. Our waiter, Alan, really knew his stuff. We had the Turf and Surf which started with the usual; bread, salad, etc. Alan suggested we split one order of the T & S and guaranteed we wouldn't leave hungry. He was right - The steak was large and cooked to perfection and the lobster tail was so big and tasty that I don't believe we could have eaten a whole order each. The ambiance was wonderful, very romantic. Since we were on our Honeymoon, this was great (we're no spring chickens either). The meal was pricey but worth it: $130.00 plus tip. The pool is very small, but luckily there were only a couple of kids in it so we had room to swim. The room was average, but the mattress was great. If you're looking for swank, forget it - if you're looking for a nice clean friendly place to have some fun, we recommend the Texas Station highly. We visited some of the other Station casinos and found them very nice places. They have a wide variety of slot machines - something for everyone. The staff at each are friendly and helpful. The slot attendants are very prompt in filling the machines and paying off jackpots. That's a pleasure in itself. So the next time you plan to visit LV, I'd recommend you try a hotel casino off the strip; a Station Casino. Oh yeah, we had to rent a car to get around from the T Station, but the money you save staying there, compared to the strip, will more than pay for a car rental. We enjoyed it so much, we plan to go back soon. Maybe we'll try the Palace Station next - they have a shuttle to the stip. <ladykcg -at- usa.com> - Pearl MS USA - Added 09/02/03 - [216.78.3***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 08/03 - Good Visit This was our first stay off of the strip and it was our best experience ever. The hotel is wonderful-rooms are nice, clean and newly remodeled. We thought the buffet was a great bargain for the money-loved the champaign brunch. Coffee shop was basic but had great early bird/night owl specials. Tried Austins Steak-house, and while it was pretty decent; I didnt think it was worth what we paid. Staff was absolutely wonderful-and I liked the size and mix in the casino. The other poster was correct-playing is better in the morning. Our next trip to Las Vegas will be to the Texas Station! :) <trasib -at- yahoo.com> - Richfield MN USA - Added 09/04/03 - [63.99.220.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 05/03 - Undecided The staff is friendly, but this place suffers from the Station takeover. While they continually expand the parking, they just don't put much effort into upgrading the rooms or even fixing chipped toilet seats or leaky toilets. This is usually a bargain place, and that continues, but sometimes you have to ask what you really get for the money. The staff is courteous and should be well tipped. The mood at Texas used to always be smiling and upbeat, but this trip I noticed that fewer of the patrons were smiling. After a voyage or two among the slots, I understood the lack of smiles. If it is really possible to "tighten down" the slots, this is the place. There is a vast plethora of cheap machines that will slowly take your money and give you a lot of noise. Perhaps that is what we look for, but it would be helpful if once in a while the "bonus feature" actually activated and got you back over the $20 that you stuck in the machine in the first place. I suppose that this place is "family friendly" but only a lunatic would make Las Vegas a destination vacation for a family. <prestonboss -at- hotmail.com> - Seattle WA USA - Added 05/21/03 - [12.208.130***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 05/03 - Good Visit Yeehaw!!!! 4 days at the Texas Station..Who knew it would be so good? This was my 4th trip to Las Vegas, the first time at Texas Station and the second time staying at a Station Casino (Sunset). Booked 3 nights on an internet special (not gonna tell you how much a nite but so cheap it was sick!). Smaller hotel, about 15/20 mins from the strip - a good thing in my opinion. The rooms were way above average Holiday Inn quality (no chipped toilet seats in my room). Well laid out, not obnoxiously themed, quiet, and fairly large. Pool was small - but at the price I paid the bathtub would of been an acceptable substitute! The self parking is close (still looking for the last rental car I parked at the LV Hilton!), check in/out is easy and the room elevators are right by the casino. The casino was pretty good - no big winners in my party, no big losers. Lots of penny/nickel slots and the usual parade of table games. The casino crowd did seem a little subdued, but if wild times are watcha need what the heck are you doing in North Las Vegas?? Drink service was prompt and friendly ( gin and soda please!). The food was quite good. The buffet was way above average, lots of selection and priced very reasonably (around 5/7/10 for B/L/D). Still a buffet though... The Seafood bar had very good food and good old Fatburger kept the Coors in check late at night if you know what I'm sayin'! The Coffee shop was decent..a cut above Denny's for sure. Not fancy, just decent food. Overall the Texas Station impressed me. They say that Station Casions are locals casinos. I say who would know where the best places in Las Vegas are? Yep the locals...As long as you don't mind a bit of a drive to the strip or your just looking for a place to chill for a few days, bunk down at the Texas Station. In case you are wondering, the only cowboy hats I saw were in the pattern of the carpet in the casino! Where were all the cowboys/girls? We stayed 4-nights Nov. 16-20th and as usual the staff at Texas made us feel right at home. Not only do they have a great Casino with loose slots, but the rooms have the most comfortable beds in Vegas...love those pillowtops! We were able to sleep, had great food and played night and day, and all for free! They give out comps like no other Casino in Vegas...we will be heading back for their Superbowl Party in January. If you have a car, take the drive out to Texas Station...it will be worth your while. I have to mention the super valet guy and the Security Cop we talked with, they also went out of their way to help us with directions, and emergency dental care. Thank-you Texas...we will be back!! <GLAPAIGE -at- HOTMAIL.COM> - La Crosse WI USA - Added 02/14/02 - [67.233.14.***] Report This Comment Date Visited: 04/02 - Good Visit What a great place!!!
