We had a great time at the Tropicana. The people are friendly and the entertainment is awesome, especially the free casino show. The location is perfect too, walking distance to other great hotels. I found the Tropicana to be full of history, something you rarely find on the Las Vegas strip anymore. We will definitely be staying at the Tropicana the next time we pay a visit to Las Vegas.

My stay there was good. I had gotten a comped night sent to me in the mail, along with $39 a night for the other nights, so it was definitely a great value. I was also willing to pay the extra $10 a night to upgrade to the Island Tower, but they upgraded me for free, and also upgraded my mothers room for free so we could be in the same area. The bad thing is the comp program though. If you get a comped night, they will use up all of your comp until you have paid for that free night out of your comp. Very bad buisness. The first person I talked to didnt tell me that and just said they would take my comp off of my bill, and then the people at the players club wouldnt stand by what their rep told me and wouldnt give me comp. Next time, I dont play there at all. If you do go there, take the cheap rates and free room, but do not play there as you will get screwed on comp.

The Trop was a nice until my last visit 9/2003. I will not go back to a hotel that is on the verge of shabby and filled with rudeness. The only good thing now is that it will be torn down in march and when it re-opens 2005 I hope for new staff managers, and clean rooms & casino. It's too bad they let it go so far down the drain (unlike the tubs & sinks that dont let water go down them). Take a hint from the better hotels. Service is key! Funky is not! Good Luck.

I did not stay at the hotel, so this is not a commentary on the hotel. This is a commentary on their "free" $30 in gambling tokens with a $20 buy in. Here's the deal; You give them $20, they give you a $50 token, this token can be played in one (only one) of about 20 machines in a roped off area like a corral, you must hit a jackpot on this one machine before your $50 is gone or you get a "consolation" prize, this takes all of two minutes then you get your prize (some cheap crap you could find down the street for $5). Bottom line is you pay $20 for a $5 prize and leave feeling screwed. If they give you this offer when you enter the casino, RUN AWAY, don't walk, RUN AWAY.

Our third trip to Vegas and first stay at the Tropicana. Never again! We had booked a garden room ,but quickly upgraded to a tower room when we saw that the garden rooms looked like a cheap motel. The only tower room supposetly available was a smoking room ,even though we're non-smokers. The receptionist assured us that the room would be sanitized and freshened up and we wouldn't smell any smoke. Fat chance. As soon as we got off the elevator we smelled the stench of smoke, which was also still in our room. We requested a second upgrade and finally got a non-smoking room. Once we got to that room I noticed it hadn't been cleaned, so we had to wait for the maid to come in and clean it. Then when we went to bed I noticed several drops of BLOOD on my pillow. I called the front desk and was told someone would bring a fresh pillow for me. By this point we were exhausted and just plain grossed out, but since it was already 11pm we didn't want to change hotels. When we got home I e-mailed management but of course never heard back from them. We're coming to Vegas again in February and we will definitely avoid the Tropicana. I'd also like to add that the casino is need of some major renovations.

The Trop is the best value in Vegas.

Garden rooms are awful, so pay the extra money and spring for the newer Paradise Tower. Or, try the trick I used... slip the front desk girl a $20 and say it's a special occassion (I said it was our first anniversary and my wife's first time to Vegas). We were promptly upgraded (for only the cost of that $20 bill) to a jacuzzi suite in the Island Tower. The quality of the Island Tower is somewhere between the Garden rooms and the Paradise rooms, and the hallways have a strange odor. But I can't complain about our room... Next to top floor, suite, jacuzzi in bedroom, view of the Strip, mirrors above the bed, etc... just a huge room.

Check the Trop's website for the best rates... Garden rooms are only $39 sometimes during the year, and a Paradise Tower upgrade is only $20 more.

The location is on the Strip, but at the very South end. We put in a lot of walking to the Center Strip. If you have a car, I guess the local wouldn't be that bad, but I'd rather Center Strip (esp for the first time visitor.)

Bottom line is the Tropicana is a great value and I recommend it to anyone, esp if you try the $20 trick.

Well this was the worst trip i had at the trop. Soon as we entered our Tower Room, we went to use our Room safe. OUr safe didn't work... We ended up moving to another room. Eveything seemed great. Till the Safe would'nt open with our Money still inside. How Wonderful!!!! Afterwards we never used the safe again. The service this year was at it's Worst ever. Rumor Has it the trop is Rebuilding in the next year. So that being might reflect on why people there are rude and not caring. I've been here years past and things were very good. Just that this last visit was Very Poor.....

This place is a dump and way over priced1!!!! we got in town one day before we were going to show up, and we picked the tropicana to stay at... i will never do that again. our room smelled so bad of smoke, and it was a non smoking room we thought we were going to be so sick. Also the value of the room was so over priced for that hotel room
what a dump1!!!

We stayed at the Trop 3 nights at the beginning of August. We stayed in the Island tower, opting for value instead of opulence on this trip and were very satisfied. The pool area is very nice - they have an adults only pool which was open late at night. The rooms were not brand new, but they were clean and we actually had a decent view for being back away from the strip. We did not have a long walk from the elevator, the plumbing and air was fine and it was not noisy at all. We liked the fact that during the day the joint wasn't crawling with kids. More than once we noted casino security shagging the baby buggy crowd out of the place. The free and low cost entertainment was great -- T Foxx, the bird show and most notably, the Air Play show in the casino, all very fun to watch. One caution -- we took in The Sunday brunch buffet and found the fare to be "school lunch" quality. Definitely not worth it. Also did not win anything on the video poker. Overall, a satisfying stay in spite of the trepidation from previous reviews.

For about the same price as the Sahara or Circus Circus the Tropicana is a far better value. The service was good and the room was well kept and it was very clean. (No wallpaper coming off the walls or stained carpet or worn out furniture.) The bed had a quality mattress. We chose a non-smoking room and it was. There was no smell of smoke. The lines to check in moved fast. There was great entertainment in the casino but it was lacking in the lounge. The casino was clean but the machines were didn't pay off too well. If you are looking for a bargain this is the place to stay. Even though it is not one of the newer establishments on the strip it does offer luxury for a great price.

The Tropicana is "old" Las Vegas at its best. Its a shame I hear they are demolishing the hotel in the near future. The staff was welcoming and attentive, the location was great with easy access to Excalibur, MGM Grand, and New York New York. The casino was comfortable, classic, and enjoyable, however I was disappointed when a Martini was served in a plastic cup. The food in Calypso's is very tasty and a great value. The only complaints I have were that the housekeeping was not very good, there was a one-hour wait time for dessert ordered via room service, and the drain in the shower appeared to be clogged. All in all, I would definetely reccomend this hotel to anyone who appreciates classic Vegas, and is looking for a quality place to stay on a budget. We requested a room in the Paradise Tower (I had heard the rooms are the most recently renovated), and the staff was more than happy to honor our request. We had easy access to our room from the casino, and were very pleased with the accomodations as the room was quite large, very comfortable, and offered a beautiful view of the strip. Also, checking in and out were both a breeze, and the hotel was also happy to accomodate our request for a late checkout on the day we left.

My first trip in Vegas. We went to the Tropicana, nice place but a bit old. Well situated.we reserved garden room, and for 10$ more they gave us a nice room on the tower room, wonderful view on the swimming pool, NY-NY and MGM !
The room was correct, clean. The swimming pool is nice too ( one of the best I think, I visited all the hotels) I like it cause we have trees around.
For the food or restaurant, I don t know, never ate there !
I heard that it will be destroyed this autumn ???
For my next trip I will try the Mirage maybe, I like it a lot !

Gambled for 2 hours in and never saw a cocktail waitress. Air conditioner wouldn't work right and we had to ask for towels everyday. They said they would give us a special rate and upgrade us next visit. We called looking for rates and could get them cheaper on about every website. SOME DEAL.

This is the second straight year that my girlfriend and I have stayed at the Tropicana, but it will most likely be our last (even if they don't close down next year). I really can't be too harsh on our stay, but I just felt that alot has gone downhill since the previous year. We stayed in the Paradise Tower again and our check in was again quick and easy. When we got to our room it was rather disappointing. The air conditioner was very weak and the rest of the room was showing its age. It had an odd greenish-yellow bed spread, a stainded chair, and the shower was very weak. We stayed four days and moved across the hall to another room that had better air conditioning on the second day. The Pardise Tower rooms have the small fridge, room safe, iron, and a nice sized bathroom. I was reminded why I like the tower rooms as opposed to the Garden Rooms when I was walking out to my car one morning and saw a homeless person sifting through a room service tray in the hallway of the 3000 Garden Wing. Security was not very visible except on the casino floor. I thought that the people that worked there were helpful for the most part and they had no problem switching us to the second room and did so promptly. The "security wrist bands" at the pool were rather sad since nobody ever checked for them and they left an odd tan line. We ate at Calypso's alot the previous year and only once this year. It seemed rather poorly managed now and the food and service was fair. We waited a long time and the people doing the seating seemed rather rude and disorganzied. We ate several meals after that at the Monte Carlo and it was great. I have been coming to Vegas for several years and I enjoy the "old school" Vegas feel that the Tropicana used to have.....this means drinking, gambling, service, and no kids. I love the location of the Trop and it is still a good value, but it has seen better days. Next year I will follow the "get what you pay for" theory and stay at the Monte Carlo.

My favorite place to stay at. Love the swimming pool location and price. I was unfortunate to stay in one of their garden rooms and they were nice and utalitarian but there was an awful smell of humidity which permeated the whole rooms including the hallways. Most of the time I have been lucky to stay at the paradise towers. Will be visiting this summer where I booked a tower rm. for 50 dollars! Have seen all of their excellent shows. Look for deals in magazines or try a spin on the one armed bandit where you could win free shows!

First I bought my package in January 4 monthes should have been enought time to get it strait. We brought 3 other couples with us. We wanted to be togeather On the 4000 or 5000 wings facing the pool We called several times to make things happen smoothly "No problem, was the phone answer by the Trop.people". We were put in the basement of the 3000 level, street side. My company upgraded to the tower but was charged. Bad busness in my opion we have been staying at the Trop for many years now and won't be back sorry :( Also we were made to wait untill 2:30 to get our rooms after 4 months of calling we were told we could get our rooms right away, seem we could get it right...
House keeping was stiky, I was told I could only have the Ironing board for an hour, what's with that? Before I was told when I was done please call... Also, coffee cups were left in the hall on the floor for 3 days.
The adult Pool was dirty the water was so cloudy it was hard to see the bottom. Gee-wiz you guys I have never been so disapointed.

On Sunday May 11, 2003 my wife and I flew into Las Vegas for the first time. A friend I work with told us about the Tropicana so we booked there for 3 nights. We got into town around 7pm then took a van to the Tropicana. We waited in line for 5 minute. The manager on duty checked us in. He was very helpful and told us that we would have a room in the Island Towers room 1254. He told us how to find it and told if there was any problem with the room to call and let him know.We went to our room IT WAS SUPER bigger then we figured it would be.We walked around the casino and played some slots. We then walked down the strip till around 3:30 AM that morning. We Got back to the Tropicana and went to bed. We got back up around 8:30 and went to breakfast at the Island Buffet super great food and the price was supper also.Later that night we went to dinner at the Island Buffet again. Once again Super food The prime rib was super but my wife loved the create your own pasta at the pasta bar and the prime rib. If we could give the Tropicana 150 % rating we would. We left the Tropicana on the 14th for Utah and we came back on the 18th. We stayed for 2 more night May 18 and the 19. And once again SUPER SERVICE from the the entire staff there at the Tropicana. We got roon 557 in the Island Towers. We plan to go back to Vegas soon and will book at the Tropicana again. The price is right and the staff is so friendly.

Stayed from 4/14/03 to 4/16/03 on a postcard deal with 1 free night and $40. a night for the other two nights. I have been going to Vegas for 28 years and have stayed in 15 different hotels. This was my 5th stay at the trop. Taking into consideration the age of the hotel and the cost of a room I don't expect much from the room. The hotel is old ,well warn and needs some heavy duty scrubbing, but it's livable. My wife likes the pool, it's one of the nicer pools in Vegas, and you don't have to wake up at 7:30 AM to fight for a lounge chair like you do at the Flamingo. There are not many young children. The hotel has a decent work out area and spa. I have stayed in the main tower, the room was nice, in the back tower the room was as expected. This was my third stay in the garden rooms, I prefer them because of the location between the pool( a short walk for the wife ) and the casino ( a short walk for me ). The first 2 stays in the garden rooms were OK, the rooms were as expected. BUT, this trip. The room we were in had a bath room that was, rough, even for me, way below the wifes standards and my 25 year old daughter thought it was discusting.
Unlike many of the newer hotels the Trop offers plenty of reasons to stay on the property, relax and not have to spend alot. This is old Vegas on an affordable budget. There are free shows, discounted shows, good food at 2 for 1 prices or early bird specials, even the good steak places are not over priced. My 25 year old actually liked the places to eat at the Trop, better than at the Paris hotel. The staff and dealers have always been friendly. Many of the dealers have been there a long time.
The casino was built before the fancy heavy duty air exchangers were invented so expect a smoky environment.
The table games, you can be a rated player at a $5.00 table. There is no keno. Sports book is very small and dingy.
The machines need some work, many of them would not accept my slot card. There is a good variety of slots 5 cents on up into the high slot area. You have to search all the different slot areas to find an 8 to 5 jacks or better VP. There is a good variety of other video poker games.Hint: know your pay scales. I never have a problem getting a cocktail while gambling. At check out, stand in line. You should have any comp dollars you have coming applied to your bill, if you don't use them, you lose them. Don't forget to get your comp check for any cash back at the promotion desk . My opinion which doesn't count, this is NOT a hotel for the people on their once a year vacation or the first time Vegas visitor that wants fancy and family friendly. This hotel is more for someone that's, been there, done that, would like a few freebies, knows what to expect from an older hotel, and doesn't want to spend alot for a room. If you have been to Vegas and are looking to try a different hotel don't pass up the Trop, it's a good value and worth a try. If your worried about the rooms pay a bit more and stay in the main tower. Will I go back to the trop? Yes.
If you want to read my review on Monte-carlo check out 12/2/02

After reading several questionable comments over the last few months, we were quite weary of our staying here and even considered changing our reservations at the last minute to the Luxor. We were so glad we didn't. We thoroughly enjoyed the Tropicana. Nice hotel with an excellent pool. Check-in was some what slow. Lots of people and only 3 staff members checking people in. We had booked a Jacuzzi suite. They gave us a very nice room on the 20th floor over looking the Strip and the pool. Entrance was into the living room area. There was a closet by the entrance with mirrored sliding doors. The living area contained a bar with cabinets and refrigerator, sofa, coffee table, two chairs with an end table and TV. A nice big picture window over looking the pool and the Luxor/Excalibur. Double sliding doors closed off the bedroom. The bedroom contained a large king-size bed with mirrors across the back and on the ceiling. So cool. A Jacuzzi tub with mirrors behind it was over to the left. The tub wasn't very wide, but it was quite deep with lots of jets. A dresser, 2 night stands and another TV. A second big picture window overlooking Excalibur/New York New York and the north side of MGM. The bathroom had a very nice sized dressing area with another closet with mirrored sliding doors and two separate vanities with their own sink. A separate room contained the toilet and steam shower. We've never used a steam shower before. It was really nice, but you can't stay in there to long. It got too warm and the steam was so thick you could barely breath. All furniture was rattan/bamboo style. The entire room was very clean. Yes, the bathroom fixtures could be newer, but in all we really enjoyed the room. Safe charge was $3 per day, but we were never charged even though we did use the safe. There was $1 charge per day for the phone whether you used it or not.

Tropicana Pool - We really enjoyed the pool area. The weather was not that great with highs in the low to mid 70's and rather windy, but it was nice mid afternoon in the sun. The pool was not crowded and plenty of chairs for everyone. I'm sure that had more to do with the time of year than anything else. The water was heated nicely and felt great until you got out and the wind hit you. The Flamingo's pool is more eye catching, but the Tropicana's pool is more user friendly. We defanitly enjoyed it more. Towels were provided with proof of hotel key. They also requested our key at the bar when we ordered drinks. There was no one checking at the entrance of the pool if you were a hotel guest or not.

Tropicana Spa - The spa was great. I got a package that included body scrub, body wrap, massage and facial. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxed. The 2 ladies that did my package were friendly and professional. I thoroughly enjoyed the spa.

Tropicana Casino - We were disappointed that the hotel does not have a Keno lounge. We joined the Winner's Club and did the $50 for $20 slots. Of course, we didn't win, but did get the "cool" gifts they offered. 3 Tropicana logo beer mugs. (I have no idea why there were 3), a watch, 4 decks of cards, 2 Tropicana T-Shirts and a fun book with lots of coupons including tickets for the 7:30 Folies Bergere and Rick Thomas. We played various VP and slots and didn't hit anything, but did get 2 comp buffets for our play.

We also enjoyed the restuarants, bars, the free bird show and the Hall of Legends museum. We would stay at the Tropicana again.

We went there expecting average...and we got SO MUCH LESS! First the desk clerk assured me he was giving me the king, no smoking room in the Paradise Tower we have reserved. We went to the room to find people in the room, which was a queen room. We went back to the lobby and when he saw up coming he slipped into the back. Another clerk assured us, very rudely, that there was not a king room left in the Paradise Tower. We were there at 3:00 pm and she said it was our fault for not getting there earlier, as it was first come, first served! I asked to be upgraded and she laughed! SO! we were downgraded to the Island Tower, A DUMP!!! I would not ask my dog to spend the night there. After spending a half hour there, and still not having our luggage, we left a few of our things in the room and went to explore the strip a little. We stopped at the Manager's desk to complain about the vent covers falling off of the wall, the non-slip in the tub, half peeled up, and the lights that did not work. I told him that I did not feel that I should have to pay for the room that night. He told me he would move us, the next day to the room type that we have reserved, plus he would have repairs made to the room while we were out. Upon our return we were to see him. We went to have something to eat and while out went to the MGM Grand and made room reservations starting the next day for the remainder of our stay, for only a very small difference in cost. We were treated like welcomed quests, a REAL TREAT! We returned to the Manager at the Tropicana and we assured that all repairs had been made to our room and he took $10 off of our rate for the night (whoopee!). We returned to our room to find dirty towels had been left on the floor and NO REPAIRS had been made! BUT!!! They had stolen my cell phone and my paperback book! (go figure!) They hotel refuses to reimburse me for my phone. I called the Manager and they told me "we have offered to change your room!" I told they no you have not! "Well, we can give you the room type you requested!" Well, why did you not do that at 3:00pm? (Because now it was 6:10 and someone did not show up, I think). So, they moved us back to the Paradise Tower to a king, non-smoking room with a lovely view of the roof. They were rude, and acted like everything was our fault, treated us like second class citizens, and VERY unwanted quests. We checked out the next morning and moved to the MGM Grand. AND IT WAS GRAND!

I WOULD SLEEP IN THE STREET BEFORE I WOULD GO BACK TO THE TROPICANA!!!!

Great price; great location. Stayed in the Island Towers (2 queen beds room) - the worst you could say about it is that it looked old. The room was clean with no surprises or left over junk from the previous tenants. There was a broken knob on a faucet in the bathroom; a quick call to the front desk had that fixed within 15 minutes - service like that certainly put me at ease.
It wasnt very warm when I visited so I cant say how well the a/c works when the temp goes past 100.
Tropicana is a quieter and less hectic place than the bigger and fancier hotels on the strip. It has no food court or gimmicks to attract the kids which makes this a great refuge from the noise outside. It is such a short trip to the other hotels if you are looking for donut shops and arcades - so you arent missing much here.
Casino was small but comfortable. Great drink service at the 10 dollar blackjack table - progressive slots were stingy bastards but the regular ones at least paid out once in a while. got free show tickets for a couple hours of casino play with the free winners club card. The only (i believe) all ages showgirl show in Las Vegas - it was very entertaining with the best comic speed juggler I have ever seen.
Restaurants weren't that expensive (at least for Las Vegas) but the quality was nothing special; especially the lacklustre buffet.
The convenient walkways make this place great to get around to other hotels on the strip. you can walk right into the neighboring MGM Grand or Excalibur without ever having to go out on the street.
The pool has an interesting variable geometry with 3 separate sections. A great soak without a bunch of screaming kids like you find in the more "family friendly" hotels.
well worth the visit for the budget minded traveller

Nascar Weekend 2003, 7 days and 6 nights and every one of them was a joy. I was very happy with my stay. The Housekeeping Director Ms. Thead and her staff were very helpful. The room was always done when we got back to the room even if all we did was go out for breakfast. This is definitely an establishment that remembers to keep customers you need service. The Valets were professional and knowledgeable. For the age of the Hotel and the location, it is well worth the price.

Even though the comments on this site are varied, they're pretty much on the ball. The Trop is the last of the classics--the Garden rooms may not be much to look at, but they are the last of the original style on the strip. You do get a sense of the histroy of Vegas in this hotel.
We got put into the back tower as the garden rooms were full (no extra charge). Good deal. Nice view. Yes, wallpaper peeling a smidge, but go back to your pristine box-store subdivision if you can't handle it!
Yes, there's a deodorant stink in the casino--my theory is the Trop's days are numbered, so they're trying to stretch the carpet's life out for the remaining years. Not near the variety of stores and eating as the newer hotels have, but it's right between MGM, NYNY,etc.,and you can take the tram to the Paris or whatever.
The pool area is fantastic--a little too shady for March, but a luxury of ground space and pools on property that will soon be covered with themed malls in a new casino before long. I also liked the easy parking right outside our tower (we drove from BC).
The only reason I wouldn't return is because we'd probably want to try a different hotel next time.

This was my second trip to Vegas, and I found the Trop to be quite nice.

We paid for a standard (Garden) room, but were automatically upgraded to the back tower (for no apparent reason, since I did not tip at check-in). This room was excellent for the $ we paid, but it is in the very back of the property and is a Loooooooong walk, which was difficult for my father. The next day I upgraded to the front tower for an extra $10 per night, which isn't a bad deal (pretty good view of the Strip and the elevators are right next to the front desk). The rooms were clean, and the maid service was good. Elevators were an average speed. Overall service from the employees seemed pretty good.

I was not very impressed with the casino. It is relatively small for the size of the property, and most of the BJ tables have converted to using those dang automatic shufflers (a personal pet peeve). The machines didn't seem to be very loose, but that's usually my luck anyway.

I got the review and magic show both comped, for what seemed to be a very small amount of play! Perhaps it was my stunning good looks and charm, but probably because they needed people to fill the venues. That was a great surprise! My father gave the magic show high marks, and I really liked the Foles Bergiere (sp?). The lounge routinely has live acts to enjoy when just "chillin' out".

The dinner buffet was decent, and the deli has pretty good food. The pool looked impressive....without water. It was still early Spring when we were there, so the pool was not open. Probably the best thing about the Trop is the location. It is close to Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excaliber, NY NY, and MGM. Also, right next door is this dirty little place called San Remo, with $5 prime rib or steak dinners (not too bad) and a $2 or $3 BJ table for us low-rollers!

I've heard that this might be one of the next resorts on the chopping block, which would probably be a shame since it allows people like me to enjoy that part of the South Strip without having to pay a lot! I would recommend the Trop!

Rooms were really good this time, great view and extremely clean. My only complaint was that my bed was hard. I mean, really, really, really, hard!!!! The paradise tower is a whole lot better than the island tower, in our opinion.
Housekeeping did a great job, bell staff really on the ball, air play show was good. Location is great, close to the MGM, Luxor, New York New York, & Excalibur.
We also took part in the president's day slot tourney, had a lot of fun doing that.
We plan on returning next year.

Good news, bad news. Wonderful location. Island Tower was the walk from hell (from the main lobby), almost a Mandalay Bay walk to Shark Reef. But I had a great view of New York-New York, MGM and Excaliber as well as Monte Carlo and the Bellagio. Mirrors over the bead. Ants...not a whole lot, but some. Room service messed me up as I ordered breakfast before I took off to the airport and it never got there. Also, their buffet didn't open until 7:30 a.m. Uh, that was inconvenient. I like the front desk staff...very helpful. Their Casino is fairly small and limited (only one Pai Gow table and no Spanish 21 table). But I won some money. I am willing to chance this place again. Next time I will see if I can solve the breakfast problem when I am trying to make the airport.

Got a great internet rate of $45/night with 3rd night free. For that price you couldn't go wrong. Tipped $20 and asked for the Paradise tower. The clerk was training and didn't understand the $20 so the supervisor training her told her that I was taking care of her so she should take care of me.
The tower rooms are great with a fantastic view of the strip. The casino is a little seedy but had lots of $5 tables. Free show that goes on several times daily is great also. Didn't use the Pool area in January but it was very beautiful. If you can get an upgrade to either of the towers it is a great bargain as the location is perfect.

We just got back from four days at the Trop. We've stayed all around the Strip before, including the IP, Boardwalk, Circus Circus, and Treasure Island, and even off of it. I think that the Trop had some of the nicest rooms I have had, particularly for the price. We got the upgrade to the rear tower (I forgot the name) - I didn't think it was such a big deal to walk there, it was slightly inconvenient with the luggage, but it wasn't so bad, and then there were plenty of elevators so there was never a wait. (We had to walk through an arcade from the back when we stayed at the IP too, and at the Boardwalk we weren't even in the same building as the casino and buffet!) The staff wasn't as friendly and the casino didn't pay out as well as at the IP or Boardwalk (no Austin Powers nickel slots), but I wouldn't expect it to as it seems to be more upscale than those. The Players Club is a good thing, you can get show tickets for 2 hours of play and a t-shirt for 30 minutes of play. The free aerial show was great as was the bird show, and the comedy, magic and folies shows were also quite good. The pools are great, I regret that most of them weren't really open in the season but their indoor one is adjacent to the outdoor ones. The tic-tac-toe against the chicken is amusing. Location-wise, I had no problem - obviously we have been to Vegas before and so we weren't really looking to go all over the Strip. It was an easy walk to MGM, New York New York, both of which we liked and visited, and also to Excalibur (and thus the Luxor and Mandalay Bay) - and then there is always that bus stop right outside to go up the strip anywhere you want to go. Overall we had quite a fine experience staying at the Trop!

Stayed here for the 2nd 1/2 of the girls trip. They had our reservations all messed up. We requested non smoking rooms w/double beds near each other and got smoking rooms w/king beds on 8 different floors. WOW, could it be any more messed up. The guy at the front counter was a JERK. The rooms were gross, and you could hear your neighbor's every move. The casino was ok, the staff in the casino was great. I though perhaps contact after the visit would assist and basically got blown off by the manager too.

I would not waste my time or money staying here.

did not stay in the hotel, met friends to gamble and grab a bite to eat and took in the rick thomas show. rick thomas puts on a very good afternoon show, reasonable price, some unbelievable tricks, good use of the audience, family friendly and not too long of a show. paid $15 per person, i know siegfried and roy are over $100 per person and you still see animals disappear and some great magic. ate at calypsos, average food very good service. casino has brought in an act similar to circus, circus. the problem is the noise. when the craps dealers have to use ear plugs you know you are in trouble. no call bets etc, no one can hear, it was a major problem and a distraction. called the administrative office to voice my concern, and was treated in a non-caring manner, ok i will tell my boss. not very eager to take my name, i almost had to ask the secretary do you think your boss would like to call me back after he gets out of his meeting. this was a poor response to what i consider a very legitimate concern. thank god the show is not too long, but the damage is already done and right after the show the crowd that came to watch it leaves, i do not think many of them gambled. i do not know if this new concept in entertainment can compete with the circus, but it did not impress me and the other serious gamblers at the craps tables.

The rates were very good, sign up for the slot card and get free night mailers. The tower rooms are nothing special, we had a king size bed, couch and a great view of the strip. The casino was small, in comparison. Not big enough for the free show, but it had some good acrobatics. Island buffet-not big, but some good food. Calypsos-24hrs-not bad if desperate for late night munchies. Savannahs-great food, a little loud for being fancy. All 3 had great service. Do yourself a favor and try that water massage. I overheard someone say,"I don't understand why people don't like this place." I was just thinking the same thing. It's not the Bellagio, but I'm not Bill Gates.

i had went to the tropicana in oct. when it was really cold for vegas and i was on a budget. the room i could afford at the trop. was the garden room. the lady at the front desk was VERY friendly might i add. when me and my cousin got in the room(it was in the basement)i was disappointed. i thought i had stepped into a motel 6. it was very small and plain. it smelled like a motel 6 too.the door would not open to get out of the room -it took me 5 min. to open it) it was so cold in the room that i called up the front desk and started complaining that it was cold and asking where the heat was. so they told me that there was no heat in the garden rooms and i was like, "i need heat". then the nice lady at the front desk asked me if i wanted an apgrade to an island room or a paradise room. so i chose the paradise room(duh, it's a free upgrade- why not choose the best one?) then they asked if i wanted a high floor. i said yes(better view). so we moved up to the paradise tower. it was a HUGE room for it not being a suite. it was sooo clean, big bathroom, mirrored closet doors and a GREAT view!!! and it was all for the price of the garden room. also, the local calls are all free!(which is good for me cuz my friends live in vegas) i would visit the trop. again- but not the garden room. there's a motel 6 down the block for that!

This was my second vacation to Las Vegas. It was my girlfriends first and she insisted on value over accomodations. Well we got what we paid for. The Air conditioning barely kept up. The room did not feel clean. The bathroom had hair on the floor. We called housekeeping for an iron (that was supposed to be in the room) and when they came with it they wished me luck on getting it to heat up. Gee thanks... I was also charged a $1.00 telephone fee per day when I used my cell phone for all calls..?? The Island Buffet (brunch) was below average and the only bright spot was the do-it-yourself omlette. We saw the Folies show and I think I enjoyed the autrocious movie 'Showgirls' better. Thank goodness for the buy one get one free ticket. I requested that housekeeping not come in one day (as they recommended, to cut cost and water use etc.) and they came in anyways. Next time I will either go to a more expensive resort or if I stay on a tight budget I'll go to the Motel 6.

At the end of Aug 02, I took my girlfriend to Tropicana for her 21st Birthday. Bad idea, and for those guys out there that want to have a romantic night with their girlfriends or wives, do not go to this hotel. When we checked in originally I had a Garden Room reserved, but they were sold out when we arrived so they gave us a room in the Island Tower. WHAT A DUMP!!!! Wallpaper coming off the walls, black shower floors, other person's hair on the couch, ripped carpet, etc. You name it, it was there. I was upgraded to the Paradise Tower at no extra charge. Well I woke up at 5am the next morning because I could hear every tolet and bath tub running. Not to mention the conversations through the paper hollow walls in the next room. Literally, you could clearly hear their conversations. I checked out that day and was told that I was going to be charged for the upgrade to the Paradise Tower. I caught them in a lie and said " I'm not paying, because I was told the upgrade was at no extra cost." So they didn't charge me after all. Oh, it takes around 15 minutes to get the operator from your room when you require assistance!! The crew of the hotel was very nice, but it is just not a good enough hotel where the crew would matter.

I have stayed at several different places (Luxor, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, Imperial Palace and now the Tropicana) and the Tropicana was, by far, the most unpleasant experience I have ever had. First of all, we were in a Garden Room; I don't know if it makes a difference if you stay else where in the place. First of all, the distance to the room was unbelievable! The room was the worst room I have every stayed in. Dirty (hair everywhere, peanuts on the floor, dust, etc.) I complained, but it didn't get better. The worst thing was trying to sleep. The walls and ceiling were paper thin. I could hear everything rom the room above. I will NEVER stay here again! Yuck!!!!!!

This is old school Vegas-baby! Tacky casino (mirrors everywhere),the smell of cigars and scotch fill the air. Slipped the check-in clerk a $20 and got a great suite in the Island Tower (she even had a cake delivered to our room as thanks!). We loved the mirrors over the bed! Check-in was very fast. The hotel was a little hard to navigate at first but by the end of the first day we had it down. Wife enjoyed the Spa. We both loved the pool. The Follies was pretty good but dated. The comedy show was top-notch. This property is old in comparison to other properties in the area but well maintained and they seem to make a real effort to keep it clean. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants so I can't rate them (if you need a buffet try the MGM next door, the coconut-shrimp worth the price of admisssion alone. Stay away from the steak special next door at the San Remo. It was terible even for the cheap price!). There was a small coffee cart at the elevator entrance to the tower that my wife really enjoyed. If you are looking for the feel of 'Vegas' without a bunch of kids running around, a great location (south-strip), great amenities (pool & spa) for an awesome price, The Tropicana can't be beat!

I stayed at the Tropicana May 16-20. I reserved a Garden Room through the slot club with the intention of upgrading when I arrived. At check-in I asked if there were any rooms available in the Paradise Tower and they gave me a Tower room at no extra charge. They did this for my friends, too. I would have paid for the upgrade since the Garden Rooms suck. All of the employees at the Tropicana were extremely nice and helpful. The pool area is a delight. Swim-up blackjack is a blast. And we had a lovely dip in the adult pool at night. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an adult-friendly bargain. If you want something fancy, go somewhere else.

Also stayed 1&1/2 days at tropicana (garden room). the layout of garden rooms -low rise, next to and surrounding pool makes this kid friendly. Just be aware that for the convience of being next to the pool the quality of the rooms is quite poor. I was willing to make that trade but even so, I had to switch rooms cause the 1st room had a terrible musty odor from the ancient airconditioning vents, bathtub water never really as hot as i like it and little storage space for clothes in the 3 drawer bureau. however it was nice to open the sliding glass door and sit outside on the balcony, if you stay here for security request a 2nd floor room if you have a patio/balcony. Kids enjoyed the pool, crowded and noisy but you can pull a chaise lounge up on grass away from pool and it is more relaxing. food- the buffet was just terrible $9.00 for breakfast and couldn't get toast or muffin with my omlette, food is generally dried out and not of top quality ... couldn't hold a candle to the breakfast buffet at the orleans. Gambling .. I don't care for the casino, couldn't get any cocktail service, couldnt find any decent full pay video poker, layout is confusing and overwhelming and casino is smoky. DO see the free bird show in the afternoon up in the lounge .. get there at least 1/2 hour early for a decent seat maybe even earlier if you have kid as they can't sit in the lounge area directly in front. Do see Rick Thomas he is fabulous also come early for best seat line starts @45 minutes before show opens for open seating within sections, the sections A,B,C,D are determined by when you buy your ticket so buy early in the day to get the best section and come early to get the best seat in that section, it's fairly easy to find 2:1 offers for this show.

WE CAME AND STAYED FOR 4 DAYS IN THE ISLAND TOWER SUITES. THE HOTEL ROOMS ARE VERY CLEAN AND MAY BE A LITTLE OUT OF DATE BUT WAS NICE TO RELAX SEEING THE STRIP AND HAVING THE CASINO CLOSE. IT IS A SHORT WALK GOING TO THE CASINO BUT IS LITTLE IN COMPARISON TO THE WALKING YOU DO IN VEGAS. THE CASINO IS SMALLER BUT HAD EVERYTHING WE WANTED INCLUDING ALOT OF BLACKJACK TABLES. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANYONE WANTING A REASONABLY PRICED HOTEL ON THE STRIP.

I booked a 4 day trip with my daughter at the Trop at a LA TIMES deal which included a lot of meal coupons you wouldn't ever use,and 2for1 show tickets. The rate was $39 and $49. I wanted the show tickets and wanted the pool. The prices were for the Garden Rooms. Check in was easy and quick and we were upgraded to the Island Towers just for the asking. The room was nicely appointed, clean and pleasant but the air conditioning is not controlled in the room and it was too hot for me (the temp out was only 88).I found the employees very pleasant and accomodating except for the staff at the Promotions counter. They were just rude, uncaring and obviously bored and unhappy at thier work. It seemed funny to me that everyone in the hotel was so nice except the people who were your link to the gambling. I thought that's what it was all about.......the reason for the low prices, cheap eats and entertainment. My response.........enjoy their hospitality and gamble elsewhere. I did write to the manager who responded that he was happy that I enjoyed my stay and would forward my letter to the casino manager.

We never did get into the pool but it is very nice. We took a peek at the Gardens Rooms and they looked OK to me.......I don't spend much time in a room, just shower and sleep 6 hours. The location is nice and the facility is adequate though not luxurious.

Ok... so i didn't stay at the Tropicana recently.. BUT I realized that I never commented back in 1997 when I did stay there. I just want to warn others on what a dump the Tropicana is. Our room had stains on the carpet, dust hanging off the vents, and filthy windows that mad it hard to see outside.
Why did I choose Tropicana to begin with? It then advertised the "biggest outdoor pool" in Vegas. I called months in advance and then the week before just to make sure that the pool was going to be open the week we were going to be there (4/1/1997) They said it would be. When the family arrived, I left my wife in the long line to check-in while I went out to the pool area to check it out......It was EMPTY! No Water! ANNDDD.. it was under construction, being resurfaced. I rushed back inside and told my wife that I would try to find someplace else to stay that had a pool open. No luck. We were forced to stay there. That's when we found the crappy room. From reading the recent reviews, I can tell that the rooms haven't changed much. The towers are old and the rooms show it. If you're going to spend $79 a night, then catch a special at Treasure Island or Luxor,or if you have kids and want an even better deal at a MUCH better place for kids, then stay at Excalibur. It's got a nice pool and you can usually get a room for $59 -not to mention a hell of a lot of things for kids to do. We moved to Excalibur for the last two nights and it saved our trip that the Trop almost ruined.
NOW.. if you are going without kids (preferred) and you don't plan to spend a lot of time in one place, then the best place by far is... believe or not: Barbary Coast. It has no pool, no kids, cheap, friendly (but small) casino, and it has cheap, clean, nice rooms (around $49) and talk about location. It also has a free shuttle across the Interstate to Gold Coast (best Keno, great BlackJack and Slots) and the Rio (fun place, great casino).
Folks... NEVER go to Tropicana. Never!

I spent my 26th birthday with 12 other of my friends also staying at this hotel from April 12-14th, 2002. The accomidations were ok, nothing to brag about. It was a place to sleep as far as we were concerned, honestly we figured how much are you actually IN the room anyway. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, I recommend finding somewhere else to stay. The price was ok for the time of year. However we are trying Treasure Islnad this April in hopes of better rooms.

The Trop is showing its age, and the place needs some work. They removed the live birds from the hallway the leads to the back tower, and replaced them with kiosks. Try to walk through there with suitcases, it's a mess! The line to check in is rediculously slow, and the staff is rude. The air conditioning doesn't work properly-especially in the hallways. They pumped some kind of stink into the main casino-something like air freshener-that gagged me. The walls are SO THIN that we could hear every word and sound that came from our neighbors at all hours of the night. Worst of all was that we were charged for 2 phone calls that we didn't make. (We brought our cell phones with us). We liked the pool area, but they close at 5pm. With so much competition in Vegas, I doubt we will go back to the Trop.

Pick up the rooms at the garden rate online for 45. It was just to lowest in a last minute roadtrip. Was moved up to a island room at no charge at check in. Nice rooms, clean, maid service was quick and complete. Location worked out well. Excellent stay for the price.

Ugh...I hope that I had an abnormally bad visit, but talking to others, I don't think so. A quick rundown of the trainwreck:

- They lost our initial reservation, then sent us to a room that had not been cleaned: cigarette butts all over the place, half-empty beer cans on the bedside table. They switched us to another room...where the shower didn't work. Finally, we got into a semi-clean room which was not the size room we had booked, but having lost our reservation, we were told they had no other rooms of that size available. Great. During the whole ordeal, the front desk staff was barely civil, let alone apologetic or understanding in any way.

- The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishing; the "thermostat" was a little dial that pointed to either "Hot" or "Cold"...note that "Off" was not a choice. We never did figure out if the dial meant WE were cold, or it was COLD outside, or we wanted it cold in the room? It didn't matter since either setting had the heat pumping 24/7. Unreal; we had to sleep with the door to the little balcony open.

- The best part, of course, was when we tried to check out and they wanted to charge me more than double what I had booked the initial room for; if you are following my fun from the top, that means we got a smaller room than booked, AND they wanted to charge me twice the rate I had been booked for. I had "controlled" (my wife made me) words with the manager, and we ended up paying the rate for the room we were in, which was slightly less than I had planned on paying and much more than the room was worth. I mentioned all of the above to the manager, which only prolonged our conversation since the manager was in no way interested in giving me any kind of deal, and I had no interest in ever going back there.

+ The ONLY thing I will say for this place is that if you are interested in wandering the "lower strip" the location is pretty good. Easy walkway over to the MGM and Excalibur, easy walk to Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

Overall: awful, and I feel sorry for people who tell me they're staying at the Trop...I wish I had been able to talk to them sooner.

Have been visiting Vegas for the past 5 years and come about twice a year. This is the first time I had ever been in January and liked it, not as busy and prices were more reasonable. First time ever at the Trop. We got a great room rate. Received an Island Tower room which suited my needs and great and spacious shower/bathtub. I actually enjoyed the walk from the room tothe casino and the exit because it was about the only exercise I got during the weekend. Had a great time at the comedy show, very, very funny. Ate dinner one night at Mizunos and enjoyed that experience as well. I never play slots but played a lot of three card poker and did pretty well, I did get it handed to me on the craps table. Dealers were pretty fun for the most part, cocktail waitresses improved over the stay, but the people at the tables were always fun to play with other than some drunk guy Friday night who did not have a clue, but everybody else at the table just made fun of him. Best thing for me about the Trop is the location very close to the New York, New York because I like to play craps there. Had a great trip and am waiting to see if my play got me any reduction in my room.

I stayed at the Tropicana Nov. 2001. The location was really good. I was put in a room in the Garden Terrace with a view of the dumpsters. This was a little disappointing. To me, the casino was small, not very many nickel slots (which I love). I ate at one of the restaurants (can't remember the name). The food was very average and the service was terrible. Couldn't even get a refill on my drink. Did not see a cocktail waitress once while playing the slots. The magic show at the Tropicana was pretty neat. I got a free ticket by a pull on the big slot machine out front. It's worth standing in line for a free pull. Overall, the hotel/casino wasn't bad. Next time, I would like to try another hotel, though.

Location: One of the best on the strip, the Tropicana is at the minor of Las Vegas' "four corners". It sits across the street from the MGM, NYNY, and Excalibur. You can easily get to the other "four corners" by crossing the street to the MGM and riding the free monorail to Bally's. To get to the Luxor or Mandalay Bay from the Trop simply cross the street to Excalibur and take the tram, which is also free.

Rooms: The rooms are average Vegas strip fare: nicer than a Motel 6, but not what I would call luxurious. An inroom safe is provided ($1.00 per use) as well as an iron, ironing board and a small refridgerator. I suggest getting a room in the Paradise Tower, since you don't have to walk all the way through the casino to get to the elevators.

Pool: One of the most beautiful pool areas you will ever see. The pools are large, blue and are beautifully shaped. The surrounding palm trees and vegetation are mature, and give the illusion that you are in a tropical paradise. The Tropicana has always been an adult oriented resort, and among other things features an adult only pool and swim up blackjack.

Buffet: The buffet has a great atmosphere. It is nicely isolated from the gaming areas and overlooks the pool area from the mezzanine level. The variety and quality is good and the price is reasonable. This is the one place at the Tropicana where I experienced excellent service.

Casino: Smallish, but not bad. I didn't spend much time gambling here, so nothing to report as far as loose/tight slots or drinks.

Service: Lackluster, to say the least. I had a definite vibe that nobody I came in contact with enjoyed working here. It was by far the least enjoyable part of my stay.

Summary: Adult oriented, killer pool, and overall the best budget place to stay on the strip.

Room rate too high for what you get. Have received Much better rates and rooms on first visit at Fitzgerald's and the Stratosphere.

Dining was good as was the location.

Casino was so so; table games limited.

This place has raced downhill. They have disappeared many table games
under their grand stained glass casino canopy (more slots replacing
these, the last shred of class and sophistication gone).

The hall of live birds is now rows of mall-style candle shops. The rooms
are worn and not being particularly kept up. If you are on the south strip
they do have the best coffee shop on that side of things, but other than
that, the charm is leaking out of this place like a flattening tire.

We stayed at the Trop during our first trip to Vegas in 2001. I loved it! We had a great room and good service. We earned good comps fast!!! Best slot club yet!! It is a little far down the strip for those who want to explore the whole strip. But if you've been to Vegas before, you probably wouldn't mind the location as much.

There is a major labor dispute at the Tropicana Las Vegas, where more than 1,000 Culinary Union employees are working without a contract. The workers say they are willing to do whatever it takes to protect their standard of living, so there could be picket lines, demonstrations, and work stoppages at the Tropicana over the next weeks and months until a settlement is reached. This has already begun, and in May about 2,000 union workers picketed the Tropicana, holding signs, chanting slogans, and promising that they will be back demonstrating until the contract was resolved. These actions may substantially affect customer service, as well as being an inconvenience to guests. The workers are in departments such as housekeeping, kitchen workers, food servers, bartenders and bellmen.
