NO half hour walk through the casino, you can even park your car in front of the room.Nickel for java,99 cents for a maragrita....this is the best value in Vegas.

Didn't stay here, so I can't comment on the rooms.

The casino is definitely worn and dumpy and some of their clientele is downright odd/creepy, but that didn't spoil our fun. Fiance' and friend had excellent luck at the low minimum craps table, and the dealers were very friendly. The dealers seemed to be having as much fun as the players, which made for a fun atmosphere. I won $55.00 on nickel slots, "I Dream of Jeannie", with a total investment of $5.00 out of pocket in about a half hour's time.

The 99 cent margaritas were a little sweet for our tastes, but not too bad really. The $1.49 mega dog (1-1/4 pounds) is like no hot dog I've ever seen before. I had to laugh when I ordered 3 mega dogs and the man serving asked "Ma'am, are you eating alone?" I ate maybe 1/4 of it and was stuffed. My two male companions were able to eat about 1/2 each. Unfortunately, the mega dogs were boiled...not my favorite cooking method for hot dogs, but edible and ok for a cheap snack.

We watched a few minutes of Michael Kennedy's Elvis lounge act. I can't imagine a cheesier or worse Elvis impersonator. At least it was good for a few laughs and lots of eye rolling...he he he.

If your're looking for cheap gambling and cheap eats in a friendly, albeit somewhat dumpy casino, Westward Ho fits the bill.

The room rate was decent being that it was a weekend in October. The staff was friendly and helpful. Though check in was a pain! We had to wait until 3:30 to get to our room (in the other 2 hotels, this was not the case) which was uncomfortable b/c it was very hot & we were in our travel clothes. The food was reasonably priced (great shrimp cocktails, awesome muffins and coffee for breakfast) and the casino had terrific payouts.

Would I stay here again? Probably not unless it was as in this case over a weekend. We paid $5 more for a hotel down the strip and it made a considerable difference! Much much better amenities. This place is safe and like I mentioned the staff was awesome. But overall, I don't think it's a very good deal.

Yes you'll get what you pay for but all in all it is an ok place. Keep your expectations low and you won't be dissappointed. Tell the salesmen in front of the casino no thanks and Oh yeah, you gotta get a Megadog (must see to believe) and a strawberry shortcake ($1.49 each) and a $.99 margarita.

I stayed for five nights, Friday to Wednesday. The average night rate was about $40, a steal on the strip. You have to go downtown to get a rate like that. My room was clean, safe and quiet. Nothing fancy but I liked the convenient location. Circus Circus is right next door, the Riviera is across the street and the Stardust is close by. If you stay at the Westward Ho, ask for a room on the second floor. I noticed that the floor squeaks and could be annoying if you're on the first floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only semi-problem I had was the lousy TV reception, but I didn't come to Las Vegas to watch TV anyway.

We arrived at the Ho at 11 am and immediately were checked in and given our room key. The service at the front desk was excellent and the security was tremendous. At night, walking around the property, we saw security everywhere. The rooms were very motel 6-ish but very quiet and clean.
The casino is somewhat small but all the dealers were very friendly and I loved the $3 blackjack. I actually enjoyed the small casino because everything was very accessible, the buffet, deli, restrooms and souvenir stand. I would stay here again and reccommend it to my friends for its great value.

Hotel clerk was very helpful at check-in, and room was clean. Casino was dark and kinda scary, i wouldn't gamble there too much. Good location for cheap-ass gamblers, with slots-a-fun righ next door, and the sahara just up the road. Won $100 at slot machine nearest front door-"big wheel" or something, double up red or black bonus game.

Just wanted to advise against the HO-Waiian dinner and show. If you're not one of the first people there, plan on a long wait for food. We got seated at one of the last tables and had to sit and wait 45 MINUTES before they even let us go to the buffet. The food wasn't very good either. Meat was tough and there wasn't a very big selection. Then to top it off, they closed the buffet down just as soon as we got through the line. We were expecting to be able to go back for seconds, but no way. Also, the drinks that are included have hardly any alchol in them at all. My rum and coke tasted exactly like coke. Entertainment is pretty weak also. The singer spent about 30 minutes walking through the tables asking where people were from, and asking everyone to give them a hand. Give me a break. Stay away from this one....really!

I stayed at the Circus Circus the last two times I have been to Las Vegas but I always end up at the Westward Ho for their great deals, friendly Staff and free entertainment. You have got to check out Lamar "the Hat Man" Harris! He is hilarious and he plays about 6 sets a night for free in the lounge.

The MEGA-Dogs are huge! I ate one everyday so I could put a few more bucks in the slots instead of spending my cash on a more expensive meal. I hit a Royal Flush at the Venetian and took some of my winnings back to the HO. I pulled about $200 out of there in 30 mins!

I have having my batchelor party in Las Vegas in February 2004 and we have decided to stay at the Westward Ho because of the price and the good memories I have had there in the past. I can't wait to visit in February!

i gotta tell ya'... i was really worried .. everyone said "the ho" was a dump.. but let me tell you something .. no it's not bellagaio but .. it was just as good as my bedroom at home .. which is all i can ask for when staying at a hotel!! .. the price for "race weekend" was fantastic.. the casino is wonderful.. the people who work for "the ho" should be commended ..you will NOT find a nicer group of employees ANYWHERE on the strip.. we've stayed at the imperial palace before and paid twice if not three times the price and didn't even get as much as a "boo" from them... if you don't want to be bothered by the peddlers shoving their nuddie brochears in your face .. this is the place to stay !! everyone down at this end of the strip was very cordial and very down to earth .. if your not some high roller and are just your run of the mill person working your 40 hrs a week and need a quick, cheap, fun and clean place to go this is it !!! my husband and i along with my in-laws plan on going back just as soon as we can ... give it a shot just once and i'll bet you .. you'll feel the same way we do !!

I checked in and that went great, they put me in a room so far back that you almost need to drive to get to it. The room was small, two beds that were in rough shape and needed new matteress . I had 3 free nights say there but checked out in the morning and stayed downtown.
There are a lot of hotels in Vegas Find a better one then this one. Brian

Our stay at the westward ho meant a broken front door that would not stay closed when there was a breeze, VERY thin walls so we heard EVERYthing going on in the room above us, and not clean. We stay at different hotels through out the year for long weekends, would not do this one again.

Just a few words to say that we didn't stay here, just gambled.
I hitted a $2000 jackpot at a 5ç slot.....it seemed it was the first time they faced such a situation.... It tooked more than 1 hour to get a voucher (it was impossible to get the money before I show them my passport, even if I showed them my ID and driver's license) Maybe because I'm french.....
Finally I only got $1400 because of the 30% taken for the IRS....
Some of the change persons told me it was very very unusual to see jackpots there....
After that, the same night I've got $250 with Jeopardy and $100 with Harley Davidson....
Another good value : their doughnuts at 50ç....and their amazing hot dogs !
Bad value : their players club is junk and you never see a waitress...

Update to 07/02 rating: I am coming back in late March and called to reserve a room. I was told that my rating had been reduced. This was not a surprise to me (the only surprise was that it took so long for them to do it) since I don't play there very much for the reasons outlined in my previous post. I spoke to a casino host -- not to ask for a new rating -- just to let them know why I don't play there much (not an angry call) and the host told me that WH doesn't want green action and that I should play at that level at Stardust. This was a matter-of-fact statement on his part -- not made to irritate me -- which I found to be interesting. At any rate, I still got the casino rate which is cheaper than most, so I stayed there again, but I am on the lookout for alternatives.

I've stayed at WH many times and am currently a rated player there. The rooms are older, simple, but functional and clean. If you are looking for fancy rooms with a jacuzzi forget it. My last room had 2 queen beds, one TV, a wash basin, tub and shower. But I'm getting it for about $30 a night. The rooms are clean and serve the basic purpose. There is one larger swimming pool and several smaller satellite ones (along with hot tubs) scattered around the property. The satellite pools are nice in as much as they aren't generally too busy. WH caters to an older crowd so if you are a 20-something looking to party this is not the place for you. The service help, I found, to be pleasant. The Blackjack rules are very poor, so if you are a serious player you will not find happiness here. A green player is to be valued here, though. One silly new rule, I'm a green player, comped 16 nites a year there and was playing 25 cent slots one night, The waitress said she couldn't get me a bottle of beer because I didn't have a certain style badge on. So I asked for a Jack Daniels double (which she immediately got for me). You figure it out. She said Management said they were giving away too many bottles of beer. OK.

Stayed at the Westward Ho on our first visit to Las Vegas. Got a suite for a week at a very reasonable price. The room was a fair distance from the casino, so the shuttle came in handy. The suite was spacious, the air conditioning was perfect, and the room was quiet! The 99c margarita specials were quite nice as well! A nice place! Would definitely stay again!

I have stayed at the WH 2 times now and have had a blast at the casino both times, I must admit I'm not a big-time hardcore gambler but have been known to stay up all night playing $3 blackjack, the pit-bosses are cool, most of the dealers are fun, although some had the dispostion of a pit bull with a bad headache, and the waitresses very attentive.
The rooms were nothing special, but were very clean, in fact cleaner than the Room I stayed in at The Riviera on a previous visit, I look forward to my next visit to the Westward Ho.

I love this property its not one of the more spectacular hotels but the price is reasonable and the staff is friendly. Yes the hotel might be referred to as motel 6 but how often do you go to your room anyways but to pass out and sleep till you get up and go again plus its on the strip. I will stay there everytime I go to vegas.

OK value for the money, but others on the strip have equally good week-day rates and the properties are in much better repair. The casino is cramped and VERY smoke filled unless the doors are open. TOO many kids!!! Didn't find staff at all pleasant or helpful with the exception of the door-man. The location was good for us, but I'm puzzled as to why the property seems to be in such poor repair and doesn't look as though it's been updated since it opened.

We have stayed at other hotels on the strip(MC, NYNY,IP, Frontier) and they are ok but for the price we prefer the HO. Get a player card and get free rooms, food, shows, etc. If going with other people I suggest an apartment, it is large and roomy with three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. We have stayed at the HO six times and it seems we do OK on 5 cent and 1 dollar slots but the 25 cent slots suck up the $$$. 1 dollar craps table and good video poker(25 cent-9-6 and 5 cent-8-5). Unless some day we hit it big the HO is where we will stay from now on.

We had not been in this casino for 4 years, but I sure had fun on the new Unicorn machines. In a 2-hour stay I made 500.00, and this was on a nickel machine betting the minimum. Our friends won big on the dollar slots,my hubby held his own on Blackjack...and they all got a laugh with the footlong hotdogs!!! You have to see them to believe them!! Great Margaritas, this little casino is like stepping back into the past. Very Customer friendly

I have sent a letter to The Westward Ho about my experience....after hearing from them will have interesting story either way to share with others. We will see how they handle it and go into detail.
****
While visiting the casino on the first day of arrival I was ripped off big time. I was sitting on my leather jacket. I walked not 3 feet away. I was robbed of everything within few seconds. I had some personal items and cash also taken. I take responsibility for turning my back, BUT there was a security camera right over my head. Security was around casino. Guess what? They didn't get ANYTHING on tape. I was treated unfairly, and would NEVER go back to the Westward Ho. A person should feel safe to be in an establishment, and that ruined our whole trip. Westward Ho took 0% reponsibility. There was 8 of us in our party.....ZERO will stay there or gamble there again!!!!!!

We haven't been to Vegas in 17 years. We picked the West Ward Ho for 2 reasons 1)room rates were $29.00 and we didn't care were we were staying as long as we were in Las Vegas. 2)the hotel was offering free alcohol 24 hours at their margarita bar and lounge (not just when gambling) and free lunch in their cafe. We got their at 4:00pm. Check in was fast, easy and friendly. I didn't much care that the rooms are not connected to the hotel only because the week we were there it so cold, but no big deal. If we were going to walk all the way down the Strip in the cold, we could walk to our room. They did offer free shuttle service to your room, but it was quicker and easier to just walk. We saw several security personell on bikes and never once felt unsafe walking to and from our room. We room is just like a Motel 6. No glamour or glitz, but clean and provided everything we needed. We only stayed in the room to sleep and get ready. We ate in their cafe once for breakfast and once for the free lunch, and ate at the deli once for breakfast. The food was not great. We also weren't impressed with their margaritas either. Their freebies were only good if the food and drinks were better and you just wanted to hang out at this hotel, which we didn't. We played some of their slots and thought they were quite tight, but all the hotels we played slots at we thought were tight. We would put in a $20 and within 5 min it was gone. Not even enough return to be able to play for a while. Our next trip, we will skip the slots all together. We like that the bus stopped directly in front of the hotel and used it often. Did not like the people hanging around the front entrance trying to get you tour their time share properties. I ended up getting ugly with one of them so they would leave us alone. All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay and will continue to stay there in the future only because of the exceptional value. Would like to stay closer to the middle of the strip so we didn't have to take the bus or walk that much, but would only do so if we find a hotel that offered comparable rates. We rather spend the money on shows, activities, and gambling then on a high glamour hotel.

I have found Westward Ho to be the best value around. Also best service, and best of everything else that a person would look for in a casino. During my visits there I have met many, many people that stay at the more expensive, exclusive casino hotels and they come to Westward Ho to gamble because of the friendliness, slot payoffs, and general likeable atmosphere. I have been staying at Westward Ho going on 20 years and have never had a bad experience. I have tried several of the other hotels and keep going back and preferring Westward Ho.

Received a three night room comp as a result of my previous play so decided to give them a shot. Unlike the megaresorts of today, the Westward Ho is a down to earth place with a great staff and friendly atmosphere. The rooms are somewhat dated, but they were clean and the beds were comfortable and I spend maybe 5 hours a day in the room so that is fine with me. The staff really seems to know the patrons which is great. The casino has plenty of nickel games for the low rollers like myself and it always seems to be busy. I would stay here again and will definitely play at this casino again when I visit in January of 2002. A great value!

This is a good hotel for your money. Don't expect glitz and glamour or the top of the line service, but most employees are there with a smile. Rooms are smaller "motel"-type rooms, but offer a good value. It is a mile or two from the bulk of the activity on the strip, so be sure to rent a car or strap on your walking shoes. The casino isn't much to speak of, but Circus Circus is very close. Westward Ho is a good value if you don't have much cash to spend. Because it's cheap, don't expect the best.
