Had never stayed at this hotel or even been it before now. It was a very nice hotel. We checked in kind of late and front desk staff informed us that the room type we had requested was sold out, so they upgraded us to a suite. the casino didn't seem to be as smoky as some of the other reviews stated. Maybe they have redone their ventilation system since then. I would stay here again. It's a nice hotel for an inexpensive price and I liked that it's connected to the Main Street Station by a walkway.

I did not stay at this hotel and never would. From Main Street, it looks like an abandoned building. I went to the casino looking for a low stakes BJ game. The inside was dark and smokey. The dealer was unfriendly. This hotel is connected to the Main Street Station. They are as different as night and day.

Well, only gambled here and I can say the service was very friendly. Probably the friendliest in downtown. The slots ARE tight, and I lost a bit at roulette, but the host was nice. It is full of smoke, but I would come back. Mermaids, a new place on Fremont, is the best for service. Small, but great waitresses and cheap food.

Not a pleasant experience, so many better places to stay in Las Vegas. Casino is filled with smoke, rude dealers, and tight slots. Front desk service is a nightmare here -- checking in the morning you'll be cut in line by one of the many tour groups, with a few dozens passengers in tow. During check out hours, manned by 1 person! Wonderful. Stay away from this hell-hole, did I mention there are so many other better places in Las Vegas ?

We really enjoyed our stay at the California Hotel Casino. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the valet attendant and the porter that assisted with our luggage and escorted us to the registration desk. Every step was done in a timely and orderly fashion with a smile.
I don't know when the rooms were remodelled, but it was clean and had the ammenties needed for the weekend. The only problem we had with the room was the toilet. It made a very loud noise when flushed. You could also hear everone flushing their toilets at all hours of the night That was the only disturbing aspect of staying at the hotel.
We will definetly return
toilets at all times of the night.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO GAMBLE, WITHOUT THE WORRY OF THE HUSSLE OF THE STRIP,STAY HERE, IF YOU GIVE A SMILE,SURELY A SMILE WILL COME IN RETURN. WANT TO LEARN A TABLE GAME,THE STAFF IS MORE THAN WILLING TO TEACH YOU.
VIDEO POKER IS ALWAYS A WINNER, SLOTS CAN BE TOO!! DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF DAY
IF YOU FORGET TO EAT, THE COFFEE SHOPS OPEN 24/7, WANT TO WINE & DINE, REDWOOD BAR WITH JESUS, THAT'S PRONOUNCED HEY-SOOS. IS REALLY GREAT! THE SECURITY THERE IS AWESOME. THEY KNOW WHOSE STAYING AND WHO IS JUST PASSING THRU. IF YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR PARENTS HERE AND NOT WORRY, OR WHEN THE GUYS GO OFF TO A GIRLIE
SHOW.I'M SURE THE GIRLS WILL GET ALL THE ATTENTION THEY NEED FROM THE FRIENDLY STAFF WHILE YOU'RE GONE. EVERY HOTEL HAS IT'S GOOD AND BAD. WE ALL COME FOR SOME LUCK AND FUN.IT'S YOUR CHOICE, I MADE MINE.

The rooms are nothing fancy but adequate--maid service was excellent! The casino was smokey--aren't most casinos in Vegas. Liquor service was more than adequate--the slot were "tight". Dealers at the tables were friendly and offered to teach the game if you were unsure or hesistant to play. The location puts is one or two blocks away from Fremont Street but after a good meal--try the Redwood Grill--one needs the walk. Market Street Cafe is good--nothing exceptional; used meal coupons but would not pay the $$$ for some of the offerings. The T-Bone steak is also an excellent choice and for the price ($12.50) for a 16 oz. you can't beat it!

stay there 3 or 4 times a year. could stay at a dozen different hotels or casinos. have been going to vegas since early 60's.have enjoyed the cal more than anywhere else.steaks and lobster great at the redwood. prime rib is very good at market street.go to the fremont to tony roma's for ribs.go to sam's town to tres lobo's for mexican food.

Although the casino is cute and snack bar is great, the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Poorly lit, dingy, old and well worn furniture and carpeting, little outside light from small windows, no view that you would want - and creaky wood floors. Stay anywhere else!!!

We love the Cal! We have stayed there many times and will continue to do so. The service is great, especially bellman Bob and cocktail waitress Tita. We always look forward to seeing them each trip, along with the Craps Table crew. The restaurants are also great, they serve a variety of food to meet anyone's taste. Although we do love the Cal, like other hotels, it has a few faults, such as the very smokey Casino area and their Player's Gold Card doesn't have much value (to get a t-shirt is tons of points). But overall, it's a great place to stay!

good service, nice rooms and love the gaming area. Will be back there in May of 2002 again. stayed at the california 5 times and will continue to give them my business. especially great value for people from Hawaii

DON'T GO THERE TO PLAY BLACKJACK. I didn't stay there,but the casino -- my god -- sucked really bad! Smokey -- unfriendly dealers -- players card sucked. The restaurant sucked too. If you like downtown, stay and gamble at the Fitzgerald and eat at the Fremont. Check out mainstreet Station if you like craps.
