This was my family's 3rd trip to Las Vegas. We like to mix up which hotel/casino which we stay to have our vacation more interesting. When I booked a 4 night stay at the Golden Gate we got more than we bargained for!! The rate was really great 55$ a night for 4 nights and downtown las vegas.
We arrived in Las Vegas at 11am and we weren't able to get into our room until 2 PM, and this is why.... When we got to the Golden Gate. Their systems had gone down and we had to wait an hour before they were up. When they did turn back on.. our reservations were lost in the wind so we had to book a 4 night stay again for 100$ a night. They told us it would have 2 queen size beds. To our suprise we got into our room and there wasnt a bed at all let alone any furniture!!!! Apparantly the person working at the desk was new and that room was being refurnished or so they say! so for the trouble they gave us some vouchers to the diner and by the time we got done eating our room should be ready. I have never had such a horrible check in experience.. nor a eating experience that we were about to endure!
With luggage at hand we all went to the diner. I have never had a problem with the gay community but this place was flaming!!!!!!! I didnt want to eat their but my fam was hungry and it was a free meal. So i ordered a chilli dog and a coke. When we got our food it looked pretty good but never judge a book by its cover! I dug my fork into the chili covered hot dog but only to find little bite size weenies slide out of the bun! I went to the cashier and told them. They said that they were sorry and were out of hotdogs! jesus christ! coming back to the table. A few proud members of the gay community started to harrass us asking if we would like to support the gay and lesbian community by buying a 1$ rainbow pin! after i constantly refused! they turned to my 9 year old daughter and asked her if she would let her dad wear a rainbow pin!!! this was disgusting! I grabbed my family and left! I tried to tell a manager but he just dropped his head in shame and exclaimed there was nothing that could be done!!!! what kind of circus is this place!
We finally got to our room by 2pm! What an adventure already and our trip has barely yet to start. The room was decent i suppose everything seemed to be in order so maybe the worst was behind us. Knock on wood! we go out in town and come back that night and boy we were beat. We woke the next morning in our own sweat for the AC had stopped working that night. I called front desk and they said they would have the problem fixed immediately. I wish I would have been a little more informed by that meaning. after going out for breakfast, we came back around lunch time.. they had placed some fans in our room and a paper taped onto our AC saying Out of Order!!!!! on top of that the maids had yet to stop by our room. Anyways after another long day, and finally getting our AC fixed we had got back to our room again around 10pm and passed out by 11:30. 12Am someone knocks on our door. it was room service with a cart saying our food was here. A glass of milk a bag of cookies, and a whole plate of scrambled eggs!!!! Not only did i NOT order this but who the hell would at this time of night. They left the cart and the bill! i called front desk and asked for a manager. They said yes you guys have an order and that it would be added to our bill! I tried telling them that I didnt order this but the manager told me I have heard that story before and hung the phone up!!!!!!!!!! After that night and having to pay 252$ we checked out and off to a hotel on the strip.

The room is small but clean. It has all the basic. The front desk service is average. The value and location is good so I may visit again.

Didn't stay at the hotel, but played a lot of BJ at the casino. Has $3 minimums at times during the week. Staff very friendly, especially late at nite. Very good at bringing beverages. Small casino with a good atmosphere. Good visit.

We picked the Golden gate because they will let you check in on a Saturday night. A lot of hotels won't allow this or if they do , you are hit with a big Bill.
Sure the rooms are old the place is 100 years old . the rooms are small, but Clean and bed are comfy! We had a room on the Second Floor (211) looking out on freemont st. great view and if you like to watch people this is a great spot. The windows open so you feel like you are right on top of it all. You can hear music all night long but it is not loud and the curtins closed well as not to let much light in the room. The bath room is also small, shower had a lot of water perssure and you even get shampoo .
There is a coffee maker in the room if you drink coffee, you won't find this in a lot of vegas hotels. Staff could not have been nicer.
I was told by staff that the rooms on the 4th floor are bigger and check them out , but we never made it up there maybe next time.
I would say that if it is just a quick weekend get a way say the guys just looking for a clean place to sleep this is the place for you, we will go back for sure.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, THE ROOMS ARE BAD, THEY ARE WORSE THEN EL CORTEZ, AND EL CORTEZ IS BAD. THE ROOMS ARE SMALL AND VERY VERY HOT, THEY TURN THE AIR OFF IN THE WINTER SO IF YOU STAY THERE PLS DONT STAY IN THE WINTER IN YOU WANT A COLD ROOM. ALSO THE CASINO IS HAND PAY AND THE CASINO HELP IS NEVER AROUND WHEN YOU NEED THE. JUST A TERRIBLE TERRIBLE VISIT.

We've stayed here several times and. It's a very old casino so they don't have the same amenties you would
find on the strip or other newer casinos downtown. We normally stay here because we get room discounts.
The staff is very friendly. Debbie and Buddy are always so nice!!! It's nice to stay somewhere they know
you. They have known our family for over years. The rooms are clean, but very small. They are not for
lounging. They are just for sleeping. The machines are very tight!!!! The tables seem to be ok. They are
always crowded on the weekend. I would not recommend the food. The Bay City Diner has very bland food.
I think the only reason people eat there is because it's cheap. Some of the staff at the diner don't look very
clean. The snack bar has good sandwiches, but the hot food is not hot!!! I ordered a hot dog that was at
most warm.

I have stayed in hotels in 47 states in my line of work and this is by far the worst dump I have ever stayed in. My (now) wife and I went there on a budget trip to vegas and ended up deciding to get married while we were there YEY!!! But lets start with check in For our romantic week we were given two twin beds? Was told they were full and nothing could be done of course the parking lot was never full and I called down a couple days from my cell phone and they told me they did have rooms available!!! On my wedding day we awake to NO hot water called the front desk they told us it would be fixed in 45 minutes 4.5 hours later and three calls later we were told 45 minutes. The halls smell of old cancerous smoke and tar. The rooms are horribly small the air and heater did not work properly we had to open the window with our great view of the alley. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE THIS IS A DUMP pay a few more dollars stay somewhere else on down town DO NOT STAY IN THIS RAT HOLE DUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiny rooms, but clean. People need to understand that, at properties like these older downtown hotels, you usually get what you pay for. Sure they can be on the small and cramped side, and sometimes in need of a little updating, but what do you want for $39? Give me clean sheets on a decent mattress, no bugs/rodents, A/C and/or heat, hot water and a TV to wake up to and I'm good to go. Especially if I don't have to walk 20 minutes to get to my room. I liked this old joint.
That said, we're staying there again in March. We love the "Old Vegas" feel of the hotel and casino. The dealers were generally friendly, cocktails were plentiful and strong, meal comps were easy to get, and our luck was good while playing there. The deli is awesome, and be sure not to miss the shrimp cocktail (the $2.99 one is a better deal), and the diner was a rare find...you'll miss it if you aren't looking for it...typical greasy spoon fare, but it was excellent.

Didn't stay here but played here. Small casino with limited selection of games. All low- limit from $3.00. Blackjack is good with 3-2 payouts but dealer hits soft 17. Still decent odds for a low limit game. Comps here are very good. They only have a deli but if you play for a couple hours at aroundd $5.00 you'll get a comp. They don't have players cards. They follow your play and you just ask the floorperson for a comp when you're done playing. Cocktail service was some of the best I've experienced anywhere in Vegas and the servers were very nice. The bar is right there so if you want a drink and don't see the waitress, just have the floorperson to flag her down.

wife and I are 4x year visitors via HI junkets..can't bet the cost... gambling is much better at Golden Gate. dealers friendly and helpful and you can usually get on the crap tables any tme of day.. usually..
always make it a point to gamble there.

I met friends who were staying at the Golden Gate, and I found their room small but very clean. If there's a major event going on in the Fremont Street Experience, don't plan on getting any sleep until very late/early. We found the front desk clerk to be cold and almost rude, but that's no big problem. The major problem was that the voicemail system didn't work, and it was no use leaving a message for anyone staying there. (This caused delays and confusion!) Essentially, everything was AOK for the extremely reasonable cost of a room ($29), EXCEPT the front desk clerk in the evenings!

Played Let-it-Ride, dealer was friendly, but his boss was a totally ignorant old witchy grump! The guy sitting next to me mistakenly pulled back his first & second bets w/three threes. You can imagine how stupid he felt but in my opinion it was an honest mistake. After the dealer turned over his cards & saw three threes he questioned the player about why he had pulled back the first two bets instead of letting it ride. It was at this time that the bit boss passed by & heard the dealer's comment in which she replied, "Look we don't care about what he does that's his fault!" I was just besides myself for hearing such a nasty comment which was so unnecessary. The dealer gave me a look an said, "Did you hear what my boss said?" Let me tell you I let her know my feelings. I should have taken it a step further & reported her to her supervisor. With such a lousy piss poor attitude she should be reprimanded for her actions!

just gambled and ate here. the deli is GREAT. is this the nicest casino on freemont?? no, but great food, friendly dealers , loose slots, great staff,nad the best shrimp-cocktail i've ever had. check it out!!!!!!!

At the crap table six (6) employees argued for about 5 minutes about the correct payoff when my $50.00 A-2 bet hit. Then they claimed they paid me too much and took back some of my chips. When I told them to take down all my bets I believe they stole $220.00 from me. When I complained, they gave me back $100.00 but the Pit Boss ran away from me when I requested that he review the film to see what happened to my other $120.00. They treated me like a criminal when they are the ones who stole from me.

I like their counter-style cafe, even though they only give you two slices of bacon when you order their slightly overpriced bacon & eggs. I have mixed feelings about their slot machines: Some of them are so tight you can hear the tension of the springs. Yet ever time I drop in I notice someone winning. I guess you have to have a nose for sensing out which machine is going to hit on any given day. The photographs of early San Francisco that adoen its walls give the place a sense of class, even though they celebrate an era of bygone decadence. If you leave without winning, at least you know where your dough went: The Mob.

Go to Vegas 4 times a year,eat 90% of my meales in the diner,other 10% at diner at PLAZA.Tables ok,Piano player in rest. Real class, .99 shrimp cocktail can't beat that.Going back in Jan of 05 will be eating there again.

What can be Said about the Golden Gate? I love this place. I'll never rent a room there again, but I'll always stop in for some gambling and food. The rooms are tiny, and stink of funky rotting ass and urine. The bed was designed in such a way that I always rolled right off of it. That could have been all the booze I drank though. The casino is great. Low limits. Food was above average. Love the shrimp cocktail. Who doesnt? Loungy early vegas ganster feel. Piano player in the lounge. Can't get that old vegas style anywhere else.

Every time that I go to Vegas. At least once a year. We always end up at the golden gate. Have never stayed there. But love to gamble there.

Old-timey casino. Loved the piano player. Prime rib special was outstanding and the 99 cent shrip cocktail is as good as you've heard. Didn't stay in the hotel.
