Everything was fantastic here except the room service. I had room service deliver a shrimp cocktail and bread pudding to my room. I told the lady on the phone I would be paying cash and was not told a total so I figured that the room service would have change. Food arrived and the woman threw a slight hissy fit that I didn’t have change and should have called back downstairs to ask for the total or tell them I would need change (how was I to know?) so she went back for change came back still with an attitude and basically threw the change into my hand and stormed off. Now room service adds a $5 delivery fee and 20% gratuity so for this small “offense” from me should not have caused such a problem. I go to sit down and my shrimp cocktail consists of 5 yes I said 5 shrimp for the price of 11.99. Come on! I texted this info to a friend of mine who replied “Quick call the cops you got raped on the charges”. On top of that the shrimp tasted a bit funny. The bread pudding was hard and cold.

We stayed at the new Rush Tower for the first time. We were not disappointed. The rooms are large and have a flat screen tv. the bathroom is three times the size of the older towers. Best of all, the mirror in the bathroom took 10 years off my wife.(her words not mine)

The casino is really nice although crowded on week ends. I agree with other people who say the slots are a lot tighter than a few years ago. Fewer jackpots and not many winners observed. This is still the best place to stay in downtown, we just gamble more in the other casinos because you do not receive comps from the Nugget unless you are a high roller.

Hands down, this is the best hotel downtown! I stayed here in April when I signed the papers for my

condo, and I had no regrets about it. I was a little worried at first about staying somewhere downtown,

but all those worries evaporated when I stepped inside The Golden Nugget and appreciated the truly

classy atmosphere of the place.

The rooms are a little on the small side (at least by 4-5 star Strip standards), but they're appointed

tastefully with comfy beds, flat-screen TVs, and nice bathrooms. The pool area is without a doubt a

true gem, especially with the great water slide and "tank" in the middle with live fish! Grotto is not to be

missed for good Italian food (at quite the bargain!), while Carson Street Cafe is the place to go for a late

night bite.

Oh, and don't forget to check out the nightly video shows outside on Fremont Street! :-D

First time staying downtown. Nice hotel. Got $59 a night on line with email sign up and $40 food credit. No rooms to upgrade to when we checked in, but the South tower is remodeling the rooms now. At least the top two floors were done and got one of those rooms. No micowave or refrigerator. Coffee shop was good. Casino ok. We are locals so was not expecting to win. But will stay there again.

This hotel is the class A hotel for the average income couple. We have stayed ther two times and each time we were treated like high rollers. The best deal is the Gold Card deal. Now this rate is very low because you are downtown but you are treated like you are in one of the upscale hotels on the strip. The view is not that great but we are never in the room that long except to sleep and freshen up. The Golden Nugget has a beautiful pool and as you swim sharks go right above you in this really nice fish tank. For the price it is a deal.

Stayed at the Nugget for three nights in June, 2008. Great place. We took advantage of an internet offer to pay for two nights with the third night free. The "$20 trick" got us a room upgrade at check-in so we got a nicer room in the North Tower than the South Tower room we paid for. The room was very nice and clean. It had nice touches like a flat screen TV, vanity table, robes, room safe, and a "real" hairdryer (not one of the usual wall mounted ones). Bathroom was large for Downtown. Bed was comfortable, but I found the pillows to be too soft.

The service was good. We had only one small problem that was addressed quickly and courteously. The room safe experienced a glitch and we could not get it to open, but maintenance came to the room within 10 minutes and fixed the problem. We had no further issues with it or any other problems with the room.

The gave us a pretty good coupon book upon check in. We made use of the two "two for one" buffet coupons; once for lunch and once for breakfast. Very nice buffet. The food was good, no long lines, and the room is nice. We did not eat in any of the other restaurants.

The casino is very nice, easy to navigate, with a good assortment of slots that were not too stingy (though not as generous as some other Downtown properties).

The pool area is gorgeous and swimming around the Tank is amazing. You can swim right up to it and see all of the sharks and fish inside. It's really unique and adds something interesting to a day spent by the pool. We also made sure to try out the water slide, which was a lot of fun. They also keep the jacuzzi open until 2:00 a.m., so it's great to take a dip before bed and was not too crowded.

All in all, we had a great time at the Golden Nugget and would certainly stay there again.

Just got back from spending March 17 - 21 at the Golden Nugget. Great hotel, neat and clean rooms, comfy beds, a nice size sports book and an awesome pool. Plenty of chairs and room for everyone to lay by the pool. We spent most of our nights in the Rush lounge which was very fun (although drinks are a bit pricey). On a side note St Patty's Day night downtown is awesome! Kind of like a big street party where everyone is having fun fun fun!! Be back next year.

Stayed at the GN for the second time and it just keeps getting better. The rooms are very nice and clean. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was large and the room had a great view. The casino was excellent. You could actually win some good sized pots on the slots. My wife and I usually stay on the strip but after staying at the GN I think we have found a new home. The staff was helpful and friendly and if you want a drink out by the pool it doesn't cost an arm and leg. The hotel is high class in everyway. As far as being downtown Fremont Street has come a long way. The last hotel we stayed at on the strip would not comp us anything. We usually get our rooms comp but the host at the strip hotel said gamblers like us are a dime a dozen. At the GN the host was so nice and treated us like gold. She told us the next time we visit to call her and our rooms are on the house. They also picked up all our food. Oh by the way the pool is unbelievable.

Booked a special on Hotwire for 49.00 a night. At this rate a lot of things can be "overlooked". Long wait at check in but pleasant staff, rooms are nice enough but the bathrooms a bit small. The makeup vanity outside the bathroom, complete with makeup mirror helps make up for the small bathroom. Towles big and fluffy. Robes, Iron, ironing board, hair dryer and safe are all in the big double door closet - plenty of space and hangers! Remote for TV did not work nor were we able to use the menu feature to check out but check out went smooth as we had no charges to the room. Pool was fun and lots of seating, including chairs, loungers and "beds". Hot tub was great and nearly everyone was nice.

If you are an average traveler this hotel is not for you. Maybe the high rollers get treated with respect but we sure did not. I was put on hold 3 times when calling about an air conditioning breakdown and left on hold until I could take no more. Went to front desk where we were told to wait until fixed. No alternate room to wait in. Pool is their only attraction and is far too small to enjoy. All this at a time when the hotel was not crowded .

I am one of those visitors who have been staying at gn for many years. I've been there through the Steve Wynn years, the dot com guys (forget their names), and Landry's. I was so disappointed this year. I stayed from 7/15-7/20. The room was fine. Maybe the pool was good . . . i don't know. All I do is play cards. GN is my homebase and I play all over town: blackjack, poker and video poker mostly. Their poker room is terrific. Their blackjack and videopoker mediocre. The thing that really upset me was that I couldn't get through to the front desk on the phone. Beyond the inconvenience of being unable to communicate in general, my concern is that they ignore calls that might be important. What if someone were in trouble, or had an emergency? The only way to communicate is to go to the lobby and stand in line to talk to someone in person. But the lobby is busy virtually 24/7. Hard to do. I had a comp issue at the buffet, and had the cashier call to get it solved, but she couldn't get through either. And she wasn't surprised; she said it was very difficult if not impossible to get through. They have remodeled the casino, the pool, and some of the restaurants. The rooms have not changed, though they are still nice enough. But somehow the GN is just not quite as responsive to customers as it once was. I don't think that is uncommon anymore though. It used to be that a few years ago the hotel/casinos were inclined to create loss leaders and special deals to get people into the casino. Now it seems to me that they are trying to turn a profit everywhere, from the buffets, to the rooms, especially the games (note the proliferation of 6:5 blackjack, an unbeatable game which no one who knows anything about it would play, only the poor naive tourist who expects to lose. And he will at 6:5!) GN is still the nicest hotel downtown, but not nearly the hotel it was only a couple years ago.

We stayed here again on April 23-26. Our third stay. My wife was invited in the slot tournament (didn't qualify but had a good time). She did have several nice hits on other machines. I don't have any luck at G.N. and usually play at the Four Queens or Fremont. We did see a person hit for $10,000 on a dollar Blazing Sevens and another sitting right behind my wife hit $20,000 on a dollar Ten Times. People were hitting. The room was very nice (comped) and the only meals we ate were included with the tournament. check-in and check-out went very smoothly. My only complaint is that the aisles are too tight and it gets very crowded in the Nugget. But, I guess if it wasn't a popular location it wouldn't get crowded!!!! We are looking foward to our next tournament. Thanks!

I am a vistor of Vegas atleast 6-8 times a year. This place SUCKS.

This hotel has the worst parking, the rooms are not a 4 star even in the north tower, I would rather stay at Motel 6. (there not enough bad icon's to put on).

The gambling was average (never won anything), I made all my money back at The Orlean's, Gold Coast and station casino's.

The best advise I have heard was to STAYWAY from there. I should have listen...

There is not enough space here to list ALL the bad things about the Golden Nugget.

My wife and I have been going to Las Vegas for 20+ years and the Golden Nugget has been our hotel of choice for those many years. However this past visit will be our last to stay at the Nugget. It was not anything in particular that lead us to this decision. It just doesn't feel like the Golden Nugget of old.

We always stayed downtown; because that was the Vegas we wanted to be a part of. I have heard many old timers state that Vegas went down when it became a family vacation destination. When we walked into the Nugget, it didn't "feel" like the Nugget we had come to love. Yes, they put in a new pool with a shark tank, and upgraded the casino.

We were looking forward to the Nugget like it was before the changes. The aura however, was not there. Having to get our parking ticket validated every time we left the hotel was a minor thing, but charging us $6.95 to print our boarding passes for our flight home was a bit our of line. In addition, charging $12.00 a day (I believe) for internet access was also out of line. I have been in lower grade hotels that had free internet.

Those things along would not make us not stay at the Nugget again, but as my loving wife put it, "It didn’t smell like the Nugget." No, there was not any strange smells, but the "feel", the "aura", and the "overall ambiance" was not there. On our next trip, we will stay at a Marriott property, where at least we get credit points on our Marriott account. What was interesting: as we were checking out, we were talking to another couple about their stay. They felt the same way as we did.

I understand the Nugget must try to compete with the hotels on the Strip, but they must remember the customers that stayed with them over the long haul. I guess their making money is the bottom line. But as a result for their changes, they will not be getting any of ours ever again. I expect better out of a Landry's Property.

1st nite no room so we were upgraded to a suite for that nite. After that the service just got worse. 2nd morning turned on the shower and the handle fell off in my hand and no hot water. Called and someone was there within 2 mins. Door keys did not work and plumber guy said the door mechanism was "Broke".

We got new door keys but only worked if we played around with the card for several minutes. We got new keys.

3rd morning no hot water and discovered the tv remote did not work. AND our keys still "Broke". I went to the front desk to speak to the manager and waited about 30 mins. Her excuse we had a long line of customers at the check in......hello I too am a guest. Her solution to our problems...... a free meal ticket to the buffet. We will never return to that hotel and probably not return to Vegas after such a rotten experience. We have been to Las Vegas numerous times in the past and never received "service" like what the Golden Nugget provides. Additionally, what with the carding of their guests so they can get on the elevators.....talk about making one feel like a low life!

My husband and I stayed at the Nugget for the first time last October and we were very happy with our stay. The pool renovations were not quite done yet so that was a little dissappointing, but overall, we had a blast! Check in was a breeze, our room was beautiful, and the staff was courteous and prompt. We ate at the Buffet, and it was just okay. The cafe food was delicious and reasonable. The slots were pretty tight but I did have a lot of fun with the Hot Hot Pennies machines near the front entrance. We did make the mistake however of leaving our club cards at home and didn't want to take the time to wait in line for new ones. After all the money that we spent there, we probably would have gotten some good comps. We have been to Vegas several times before but this was the best trip of all. We went to Blue Man Group, it was okay - not great - not worth the money for the tickets. We went to Toby Keith's I love this Bar and Grill and that was fantastic! We sat at the bar because that was the only smoking area and the bartenders (whiskey girls) gave quite a show! We also had the best food there! I will definately go back there! Back to Freemont Street..... We wandered around all of the different casinos downtown but kept coming back to the Nugget. The mood there is much lighter and the facility was top notch. We are going back to the Nugget in October of this year and are very excited to spend time at the new pool and soak up the sun! If you are going to Vegas..... This is the place to go!

STAYED AT THE G.N FROM 9/8--9/11 '06

MY WIFE AND I ALWAYS STAY AT THE NUGGET WHEN WE GO TO VEGAS, WE LOVE THE DOWN TOWN AERA BECAUSE ALL THE CASINOS ARE IN WALKING DISTANCE. THE G.N. IS THE BEST HOTEL BY FAR TO STAY AT IF YOU WANT UP SCALE ROOMS AT A GOOD PRICE. MY WIFE PLAYS SLOTS AND SHE DID REAL WELL THIS TRIP. SHE PLAYED THE $.25 DOUBLE/TRIPLE CHERRY MACHINES THAT WAS IN DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE CASINO AND DID WELL ON ALL OF THEM.I PLAY BLACKJACK, DIDN'T DO ANY GOOD AT G.N, DEALERS WERE REALLY HOT.I LIKE THE TABLE GAMES AT MAIN STREET STATION, ALWAYS DO REALLY WELL THERE. FOOD AT THE G.N. WAS OK, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS IN THE PAST, YOU WOULD THINK SENCE LANDRY'S TOOK OVER THE CASINO THE FOOD WOULD BE EVEN BETTER, NOT TRUE AND THEIR SERVICE PEOPLE HAS BEEN CUT BACK ALSO. OVERALL OUR STAY WAS GOOD, JUST DISAPOINTED ON THEIR FOOD AND SERVICE THIS TRIP.

Just got back from a 4 day and 3 night stay @ the GN . It is defently worth the # 9 rating it has . Just like a strip casino as far as room quaility goes ( maybe better ) but also gaming that way . Slots seems to be very tight . Card games have high limits and no one seemed to be winning on cards or slots . I put in $ 60.00 on different $0.25 and $1.00 slots and only won $3.00 back . Visied other casinos in the area and did much better . Lots of construction going on and no pool in the middle of summer ??? HINT : If you walk in a casino and see remodeling going on DO NOT gamble there , someone has to pay for it . The room was great and the buffet was above average . Enjoyed staying downtown and would stay @ GN again but would not gamble there .

The GN still has the nicest rooms downtown, no contest. But, if you don't like construction stay away for awhile. When the new pool and tower are completed it's gonna blow everything else downtown away(it already does).

The casino is still very nice, but the gaming is pretty high end for downtown. Higher limits on the tables and virtually no FP VP. I guess you're paying a premium for atmosphere.

I'll definitely stay here again, but I'll look elsewhere for better gaming options.

GN is my favorite place in Las Vegas.

They have the only 24 hour StarBucks in the country.

The Nugget is striving hard to appeal to middle America, and not the high rollers as before.

Always ask for a host to make your reservations, use your 24 Karat card all the time, and always have your play rated. This is very important since your comps (unlike many other properties) accumulate from trip to trip.

All of the hosts are professional, the staff is cheerful, the hotel (rooms, structure, etc. no deferred maintenance) is well kept, and very clean. The air exchangers work very well (no smoky smell on your clothes and I have asthma). and all the eating establishments are top notch.

Service in all areas is fast and efficient.

The staff at VIP check-in are exceptionally friendly and professional.

One thing I noticed is how much the food has improved. It seems fresher and just seems to taste better.

You have got to try their new steak house.

The grouchy, snippy sarcastic front desk clerks are gone. If you do happen to get one (at any property) always ask for the manager and watch their tone change immediately. It is simply not tolerated.

Always ask (your host) for VIP check-in. It is very fast and your room will be waiting at any time of day or night. Early check-in or late check-out? Not a problem at the Golden Nugget.

Centrally located, and very convenient, the GN is a great value for the money.

This property alone is the anchor for Downtown Las Vegas. Without it, downtown would be a ghost town.

We stayed at the GN for the first time this year. The check-in was horrible and appeared to stay that way day and night. We were told that we could pay an extra $15 for our next visit to get a VIP check-in. No thank you, that should be a given. Our room was wonderful, though. Very clean and quiet. We did not like the very fragrant room deoderizer the maid's used - too strong. Otherwise, we felt that the rooms were great, super great! We will stay in the North Tower next time because it is a very long walk to the casino from our South Tower room. Gets old after 5 days!

As far as the casino - thumbs down. We lost $600 on blackjack and three-card poker in a matter of 2 hours and never received a penny for comps! The dealers are unfriendly and cold. Forget trying to start a conversation, we weren't sure if they didn't speak English or if they were PMS'ing. One pit boss continued to slam a plastic holder on our table because she was upset that the previous shift had her three card poker limit too low. She was day shift and looked like Rod Stewart. It wasn't hurting my feelings that I had lost $200 in about 15 minutes, but she offended all of us greatly. Beware everyone, she hates her job and clients! In all fairness, I complained to the shift manager, Rich Lemon, who listened intently (which was enough). He then gave us 2 buffets and that put a band-aid on our bad experience for awhile. We received no other comps during our long stay and that is ridiculous for the $ we spent at GN.

The breakfast buffet was great. Dinner OK. The cafe was WONDERFUL 24/7. Avoid the Friday seafood buffet, though. Buffet staff was wonderful.

Hotel/casino staff were miserable. I do not think that they liked their jobs. Oh, do not use the phone, even for local calls! $1 per call next door.

We would stay at the GN again, but not gamble there.

In fact, we are trying out the Four Queens newly remodeled tower next month! Hope that's not a mistake! GN was not too friendly on the phone when we called for rates. Service is so important to me. We'll see!

Visit LV several times a year over the past 25 years, always stay on the strip. Decided to try Golden Nugget downtown for a change. heck in was slow, but we came in from Houston pretty late. Room was spacious and clean (north tower) housekeeping does good job and were very responsive to two small additional requests. Room safe malfunctioned two out of three days we were there, but again service was guick. Buffet was reasonably priced but extremely limited (except salad bar). $10/$25/$50 blackjack hands didn't even earn a "how you doing" from the pit, let alone any comps. Wife also said slots were extremely tight, and cocktail service nonexistant in that area. Did not enjoy being acousted by panhandlers just outside the hotel (3 different times)that has never happened to me on the strip not even once in 25 years. Thought late night $9 burgers at Carson street cafe were a bit much, but again waitstaff was friendly. Neighboring casino's downtown are all very sad, think all things considered, we'll go back to the strip.

I have read the other positive comments about the golden Nugget's location, service and rooms. I would agree, it is quite nice. I have one small complaint I would like to pass on to interested readers - My cell phone battery died, and I made a 7 minute call to hoome in the Los Angeles area. I thought I might pay a small premium as most hotels charge. It cost me a little over $38.00 for the call. I protested - to no avail. I am intrigued that some of you were comped $400 in room service and I could not get an errant phone charge removed. My stay was nice, however due to the $38.00 - they will never see me again, and I will most asurredly spread this story to any and all that care to listen.

We arrived late (11:00 p.m.) to check in. Dropped at South tower check in and found a sign telling us to go to N. tower. Drug all luggage to the desk. Informed there were not 2 rooms anywhere near together for us and our companions. Asked for guest coupon book and were told "that is not part of your package" Booked in the S. tower, drug luggage all the way back to where we started from. No guard to check room key as we headed to the elevators.

Assaulted by a barrage of time share sellers numerous times a day. Employees generally not friendly anymore. Renovation going on all over the property (pool closed!!)

Buffet meals OK for the price. Wait staff good. Room and amenities very good (what happened to the hair conditioner???)Free Room safe a plus.

Slots were pretty tight. Twenty bucks gone in 2 minutes flat with absolutely NO return.

It used to be that we did not hesitate when deciding where to stay on a trip to Vegas. No question---"we're staying at The Nugget" NOW??? We will be exploring new options.

Best asset at The Nugget is the Bald black man who is the doorman at the South tower entrance. He's been there for years and is the greatest!! Maybe HE should be running the whole place!!

Landry's need to pay more attention to customer satisfaction. Staff seems to be cut to the bare minimum and those people are not as friendly as they used to be under the previous owner's direction.

We got there late on a Wed. night and there were two long lines to check in. We got in one line and the other one was moving quicker. We noticed the VIP hosts taking people from the other line and ignoring us. When I mentioned it to one of the check-in hosts, she didn't seem to care. I brought it up to the manager and he was genuinely concerned and gave us free tickets to see Gordie Brown. The hotel has a nice downtown location, but far from the strip. Overall the service was great though and the rooms were very nice.

We visit the Golden Nugget every 3-4 months. We will always stay here. We went Super Bowl Weekend and also took in the Couture Liddell 3 (UFC). The Golden Nugget was excellent to us. We asked for 2 joining rooms close to the elevators. Thats exactly what we got. You could not get any closer to the elevators and absolutly no noise disturbance from them at all. We charged everything to our room and after the 6 nights it totaled about $400.00. I was comped all but $37.00 of it. That was alot of food and dry cleaning. All in all our stay was great. Only one complaint. The hotel was going through some major renovations Pool, Carpet, new restaurant ect.... great stay but some bad smells.. should be a quick renovation though.

This was a first trip to Vegas for my fiance and I, no we didnt get hitched! We stayed here at the recommendation of a friend, and at the comments posted on this site about great value and service.

After a very early flight from Detroit, we arrived at our hotel at about 9:45 am and I asked if it would be possible to check in before the 2 pm check in time which i was told "absolutely, let me find you a room that is available" which i was quite pleased with this. We went to the Cafe, had some kind of unusual french toast sandwich which was delicious, then went to our room for a nap. The room was exactly as shown on the virtual tour. It was clean, the king bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was of a nice size, NOT small as someone else had stated. Im sure there are hotels with living room size bathrooms but this wasnt a 200 dollar a night room either. We had a rental car and it took us no longer than about 8 minutes to get from car to room, which was on the eighth floor at the end of the hallway. The bartendenders on the casino floor were extremely friendly with us as we sat at the bar and played video poker, even to the point of asking one man that wasnt playing to move so my fiance could play "her" machine, and telling an overdrank patron to leave my fiance alone as she was a personal friend of his. Now this is what i call great courteous respect for its guests.

The casino itself was nicely laid out, and the 24 Karat Club offers a free ten dollars in slot play. I had my ten dollars up to two hundred at a machine that was treating me well, then cashed out and headed to a five dollar blackjack table. I turned that 200 into about three hundred when the table switched dealers and Jeff got back every cent i had earned back in the casino coffers. Im not an extremely experienced blackjack player but i know when the house hits 7 blackjacks to my one, Im not going to have much success. After 4 days and spending about 600 dollars (including meals, gambling, gas, souvenirs, a show, rides on the strip, etc.) I figure we did pretty good. The last day I entered my first casino Texas Hold 'em tournament and won 445 on my 60 dollar entry so overall we only spent a couple hundred bucks while there and has a fantastic time.

The buffet was overall good for the price, we did have better meals, but again for the price it was very good. We also bought an "Entertainment" coupon book for our trip which allowed us to eat at some fantastic restaurants with savings between 20-30 dollars per meal. I HIGHLY recommend a trip to a restaurant called "Ambiance" off the strip. It was a quaint little French restaurant which offered the best French food and pastries I have ever had. Jean Pierre is owner/operator/chef and he treated us like we were his family from across the world to eat at his restaurant. I cant praise this restaurant enough, if you have a taste for something out of the ordinary, you will be glad you made the trip to this French restaurant.

If i had any one disappointment it was just that there was no in-room convenience refrigerator for our own snacks and refreshments, but this is a tourist town, they want you to go to the coffee and snack shops. After visiting the hotels on the strip and see how absolutely overcrowded they were, overdone, and overpriced, I was quite pleased with our decision to stay at the Nugget. We were able to go see some shows on the strip and some of the sights but very relieved to be able to go back to the nicely decorated laid back atmosphere of our hotel and room. Everything was always clean and people were always busy to make it so, this is a very nice place for the price. Downtown at the Nugget is a great place to stay for a more relaxed and casual trip to Vegas.

The Nugget is still one of the finest hotels in Las Vegas, strip or downtown. We have stayed there on several occasions and have never had a bad experience, a bad meal, or bad luck at the tables. (OK, the last comment was BS)

Everyone else has nicely and completely covered all the good points of the Nugget (and there are plenty), so I'll let you in on my two little (and I mean little) gripes...it's a little hard to find table play under $10 on weekends (which is really not a problem with so many other casinos within a short walk), and if your rooms are in the south tower, it is a long damn way from the casino floor to your elevators, and usually another long damn walk from the elevator to your room (but I suppose you folks used to staying on the Strip wouldn't notice).

Seriously...we tried the Strip years ago, but ended up back downtown. You sacrifice nothing in amenities staying at the Nugget, and if your luck needs a change of locale, another casino is only a few steps away, as opposed to a long walk or a cab ride down the Strip.

I could not imagine staying at one of the animal farms on the strip when you can have all the Nugget has to offer.

My wife and I and friends spent three nights at the Golden Nugget and had a wonderful time. We felt all of the employees appreciated that we were there (not always the case in Vegas).

We had one experience I wanted to share which tells a how GREAT the Golden Nugget really is. My wife who is handicapped dropped out of her purse a slot machine voucher for $174.25 in the hall way as we were leaving. When we realized she had dropped it and started back the way we had just come, a young gal empolyee was racing toward us. She had seen the voucher fall, picked it up and was hurrying to catch us. We were so amazed at the honesty and helpfulness. We wanted to share this story with you because it was the highlight of our good time.

We will be back and will share this story with lots of people.

The GOLDEN NUGGET is the BEST.

Sincerely,

My husband took me to Las Vegas for my 41st birthday. He had never been, I have been muliple times both for fun and for business. I wanted to stay downtown because I love "old" Las Vegas, so he booked us at the Golden Nugget.

We stayed four nights in the north tower. Our room was very nice, very spacious, and very clean. The room was tastefully decorated and everything was in very good condition, from the mattress to carpets to bedding to towels and toiletries provided. The room was certainly as good as any at prior stays at The Mirage. A huge plus, however, was that the corridors were not so long as the Mirage and other strip behemoths, so from casino to room was a short walk.

We upgraded to the north tower upon our arrival for $25 per night, mainly due to the supposedly much shorter walk to Fremont Street, and supposedly the north tower rooms are more recently updated. Well, next time I think the south tower would be just fine as the difference in distance was certainly negligible. Especially if you compare how far you have to walk anywhere if you stay in one of the strip hotels.

Other reviewers have mentioned the dim guestroom lighting, and this is true. The bathroom is small and is simply no place to apply makeup. But, there is a small vanity with a seat just outside the bathroom, and there is a wonderful wall mirror and lighted makeup mirror, perfect for applying makeup. Plus, this leaves the bathroom available for others.

Worth mentioning is that the mattress was very comfortable. I've slept on some horrid hotel mattresses, not the case at the Golden Nugget! We had wonderful, restful sleep.

After check in we hit the buffet, which was simply delicious. We'd heard about the famous bread pudding, so of course we tried that. One of our waitresses gave us the recipe. The buffet was of such good quality and at a great price that we ate breakfast or lunch there several times over our four day stay. Only twice was there a line, and each time it moved quickly.

More on the buffet: The selection was great, with plenty of breakfast and lunch choices at both mealtimes. There were always two meats at the carving station, and plenty of salads and sandwich choices as well as hot entrees and lots of eggs, bacon, sausage and cereals. So no matter what time your body thinks it is, your taste buds will be very happy. The waitresses are great, it is obvious that many of them have been there for years and enjoy what they are doing.

Housekeeping does a great job here. The room was always nicely cleaned upon our return, whether we were gone two hours or all day. There are four pillows provided for a king bed, so we didn't have to call for more, and there were always plenty of towels. We didn't have to call for anything extra.

The casino is more crowded than many of the strip hotels. It is hard to walk through without having to dodge slow-moving oblivious people, or to zig zag through the machines and tables. But then that is intentional, the casinos don't want you walking straight out the door.

We didn't win in the casino. We got $10 free slot play each for joining the club, but overall we chose to gamble elsewhere, namely the Las Vegas Club, the Golden Gate Club, and a little at Binions.

At the door, you will be accosted by the timeshare folks. I was irritated at first, but once I told the guy that we were not interested, he didn't approach us again the entire visit. And, just FYI, the timeshare people were all over the place, including the strip, so you just can't blame the Nugget for that.

Security was very attentive. We had the same guy at the elevators all four nights, and he would call the elevators for us and have a little conversation with us.

The location was perfect. Located at around the midpoint of the Freemont Street Experience, it is just a short walk to "The Deuce" double decker bus to the strip (if you aren't in a hurry), or over to Binions, Vegas Club or the Golden Gate. Be brave and walk over to the El Cortez for a dose of real, genuine old Vegas.

Something that really struck me is how many "down and out" types you will see in the downtown area, yet not once were we approached for money. At first I was a little taken aback by the bums and other unsavory types in the area, but we were left completely alone. We even walked over to the "Nevada" hotel that was visible from our hotel window, and as scary as that place was, we were still left alone. But do note that when you leave the Freemont Street Expereince, even by a block or so, you may wish to leave your jewelry, extra money, etc., back in the hotel room safe (and hallelujah, the Nugget has in room safes).

I would gladly stay at the Nugget again, anytime. We enjoyed it immensely.

The Golden Nugget is the cleanest casino in downtown Vegas. I tried 20 different 25-cent and One Dollar slot machines but none of them yielded a dime. You only get three hours of free parking. Then it's $2 a hour. I wound up paying six bucks for the privilege of losing $400. The place has a deli next the buffet that smelled good but there was no place to sit down so I not only left with an empty wallet, but an empty stomach as well.

The Golden Nugget is, in my opinion, the finest casino-hotel located in Downtown Las Vegas. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell that this was once a Steve Wynn property, classy and first-class all the way!

Observations of my visit:

1. My south tower room was large and spacious, extra-clean, and well-appointed. The king room cam on their website, www.goldennugget.com, is a correct representation of the room in which I stayed. Checking in late, I was placed at the end of a hallway, but the walk is pretty much a breeze compared to the megaresorts out on the Strip.

2. The public areas, decked out in lots of brass, marble floors, glass, and white woods, were beautiful and inviting. There always seemed to be people cleaning, planting, or polishing something! Security was present at the tower elevators every afternoon through the night checking for keys, which was nice.

3. The casino was bustling, and is also the nicest Downtown. I played video poker at one of the casino bars once day for two hours on only $10 of house money, and the bartender kept my Captain & Diets coming! Nice live entertainment in the lounge right off the casino floor.

4. Had a couple of nice dinners at the Golden Nugget. The Buffet is always excellent, and I was able to get in this time at lunch without much of a wait. The Carson Street Cafe (the 24-hour restaurant) served me some of the best French onion soup I've ever had, and Lillie Langtry's was great for Asian food and fine service.

5. Caught a performance of musical impressionist Gordie Brown up in the Theatre Ballroom. With only 400 seats, he was almost as good as Danny Gans at the Mirage, albeit with a much smaller showroom. My only criticism is that he deserves a larger venue and a longer show.

If you want to stay Downtown, the Golden Nugget will impress you. Even if the rarw is $5-10 dollars more per night to stay Downtown, BOOK IT, because it is worth it, and you will not be sorry! For Downtown, the Golden Nugget really has no rival.

Things are starting to go a bit downhill since the sale to Landrys. We stayed for one filler night. I have stayed here a ton on previous trips and it is still by far the nicest hotel downtown. However I know they have been cutting staff and it shows. Out bathroom had some mold in the caulking. The conditioner is now gone (just shampoo and lotion). Staff was tense and checkin too awhile even at offpeak hours(9PM). Landrys has upped the rates quite a bit, then cut staff. Not the bargin it once was :(

We just returned from celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary in Las Vegas and we once again chose the Golden Nugget as our hotel! As usual we were not disappointed. We did have a few minor glitches when we checked in, first the key did not work in the door but that was fixed ASAP =) Once we did get in the room we discovered the air conditioner was not working. I made a call to the front desk and was told they would send someone up right away. Well let me tell you that within 30 minutes the repair man arrived and was in the almost finished changing out the unit when the front desk called to check and make sure everything was taken care of. That is what I call service! The rest of our stay was perfect! We live in the Houston area so we were aware of the new owner of the Golden Nugget and we were curious to see what changes he had in mind. When we inquired about this we were told that the Nugget had closed Zaxs and that they would be opening a Vic and Anthony's in its place. We were also told that this was just the first of many upgrades to the hotel. We did gamble some here as well. I won a couple of hundred dollars on the slots (penny slots mostly). We ate at both the buffet and Carson Street Cafe - both were excellent in service, selection and quality. All in all a great trip; this is the fourth stay at the Nugget and we plan on making this our home away from home while in Vegas.

Four-star rooms at half the price you'd pay if this place were on the Strip. I love the vibe of the downtown neighborhood. The pool is small but the restaurants are great and the common areas are clean. The long walk to the South Tower is actually welcomed because of the amount of grazing I do whenever I'm in Vegas.

Golden Nugget is our downtown casino home. I have never had bad service here, the rooms are comparable to the rooms at the Mirage at a fraction of the price, and the eating choices are first rate. Carson Street Cafe is our regular choice for breakfast (unless it's Sunday, when the Champagne brunch at the buffet is our choice!) We will be back there at the end of August.

Had a wonderful stay at the Golden Nugget. 5th time to Las Vegas but first staying downtown. Will definitely stay at the Golden Nugget in the future. Rooms clean, staff very friendly, Carson Cafe and Lillie Lantrys had good and service. Best of all was Stefanos restaurant. We made a reservation to celebrate with friends who had just got married and the manager, Tony, and all of his staff went out of their way to make our evening exceptional. Way to go Golden Nugget!

First time in Las Vegas and my wife and I was very please and satisfied that we stayed at Golden Nugget. Excellent surroundings and friendly staff. Casino and restaurants are surperb. The only thing that should be out of the Golden Nugget are the Timeshare vultures that lure visitors in accepting "free gifts" by attending to their presentation behind Caesar Palace and you already wasted half the day listening to them talking your ears off and tricking you to buy a unit out in Primm. Don't fall for them.

We encountered so many friendly and pleasant people working at the Golden Nugget.

The valet staff was always in a good mood even when they were busy. They went out of their way to help with directions and making arrangements for transportation to the airport for my sister with an early flight. Instead of poking fun of me (like my family did) when I handled them a parking garage ticket rather than a valet ticket, they walked me through a back door and showed me a short cut to the garage. Every attendant was very polite, professional and they looked good.

It was easy to check in and the front desk worked together to make sure people were not standing in line long. The VIP desk clerk took normal folks when there was no one in her line. My only complaint was that we did not get the coupon book because I used Travelocity to make reservations rather than the hotel's direct website. The clerk asked the manager if we could have the coupon book but she said the manager said no. That seems silly because we probably would have eaten dinner at the hotel if we had been given a coupon rather than going down the street.

We got haircuts and styles which we loved but we were a bit shocked at the price of $80.00 a person. I guess that is the Vegas rate without a coupon.

The spa pampered us and changed a swedish massage for me to a foot massage.

The bus boys always held the door open for guests with a smile. Every employee in the casino was friendly from dealers, to cashiers, drink servers, and change attendants. One of them even helped my mother find her favorite slot machine.

We stayed in a standard room in the South Tower. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. I liked the vanity table outside the bathroom with the light-up makeup mirror. Our maid worked around our schedule for cleaning.

The employees in the cafe for breakfast were also friendly and efficient when busy. The food was good and I especially enjoyed the selection of items available other than eggs. The banana bread with walnut cream cheese and fruit was delicious.

It was the staff at this hotel that made it a wonderful place to stay.

Stayed at the Golden Nugget April 4-7th. Fast check in and out with great service holding your bags when you have a late flight out. Made money at craps. Video poker was not great, very few triple play machines, no full pay machines. The best casino I visited downtown was Main Street Station. The people are friendly, some full pay video poker (triple play too), and great dealers and pit bosses at the craps table.

I'll be back at either the Nugget or Main Street in a couple months.

Stayed at GN north tower Mar 6/05 to Mar 12/05. Found room to be newly renovated. All amenities were amply supplied. AC worked well. Pool was open 9 to 5; should be longer. Dining facilities used were Carson St Cafe and Stefano's. Both were excellent. Starbucks coffee was added bonus. Played mostly slots; didn't win huge but didn't go bust in an hour either. Enjoyed proximity to other casinos when tired later in the day. Will definitely be back. Best value in downtown.

Lilly Langtree restaurant was the best I've eaten at. Food and service were both great and we didn't choke at the price.

Rooms were clean and neat but the bathroom was small.

Casino was friendly and the service was good for drinks. The girls appreciated the tips and I feel some of the older generation was a little tight with their tip money.

The comps were better at Caesars than at the GN and for that reason we will be staying at Caesars from now on. They want our business and because of the comps they will get it.

Nice hotel with friendly service. The only complaint I have is that boring music from the 40's and 50's they pipe in through out the entire casino all day and night!Alot of people complained about that when I was visiting the bar area.Management should take note, they have a more hip crowd than they think.Don't get me wrong I like all kinds of music, but to hear this boring elevator music 24 hours a day was like being tortured.I would not stay at this hotel again for that reason only.

As soon as we checked into our room in the south tower, we found that the toilet didn't flush well. It acted like the drain was partially clogged. They sent a maintenance man up with a plunger--it did no good. The next morning I called again. They sent a man with a plunger. It did no good. The next time we flushed it, the room flooded. Then I demanded another room. They upgraded us to a room in the north tower, and the toilet worked fine there. Other than this plumbing problem, we had a fine visit. It just seems like they need to upgrade their customer service skills as well as their plumbing.

I don't quite get it - it seems everyone raves about the Golden Nugget. I mean, it's a fantastic looking place, nice casino, pretty nice rooms but then so are many LV hotels (albeit not downtown). On the whole i enjoyed it but the highlight was the Gordie Brown show - this guy is gonna be a major man, beats other comedy impersonators hands down - the show is fast, funny with some fantastic improvisations and audience interaction. It helped that the show was part of a hotel package but pay the $60 if you have to now before he moves to the strip and doubles the price!!

The only thing that sucks about the Golden Nugget is that after making the commitment to being

Downtown, it kind of doesn't feel like Downtown at all. It's almost a bit too classy.

Room high up in the south tower was huge for a regular room, good bathroom, big TV that is best

ignored as you stare out the window at the amazing view of the distant strip. South tower rooms are far

enough from Fremont St to make it a big pain in the ass if you wanna go back for those sunglasses you

left on the dresser. Other downtown casinos would suit a forgetful person.

The casino is overpriced for downtown. Keeping the riff-raff out I suspect. That's OK, we went and

found them at Fitzgerald's. Easy comps too from the BJ pit, if you are staying at the hotel. Classy lounge

band. Perfect location on Fremont St.

Don't miss the spa! At fifteen bucks it's amazing value, and the steam room is the perfect cure for

"Vegas Nose". Seriously, go get a sauna or a massage or whatever, even if you never ever do that kind

of stuff. It'll fortify you for the night's margarita binge.

The Golden Nugget is way better value than any hotel on the strip, and better rooms/service than half

of them, plus, it has a top buffet and stacks of value in the funbook.

Stayed for the third time at the Nugget over the past year. I've heard and read comments about the new owners letting things slide and this not being the same place as before. Well people, I could see any difference over the past year since the new owners have taken over. The service, the staff, the entire property is still the class act of Vegas. Compare this hotel to any other downtown or on the strip and you won't find a better deal any where. The only downside to this property is the distance to the south tower from the casino and lobby, so pay the extra few bucks for the North tower, the rooms are a little bigger too. I know that we will continue to stay at the Nugget at least until some other property can offer as much for the price.

I like the property overall. i will only talk about the negatives:

1. i asked for an upgrade to the north tower. ok-$25 extra a night. paid it. handed a coupon book for 1 comp on breakfast & dinner buffet, comped show tickets to downtown gordie brown And low and behold an upgrade coupon to the north tower for $10/night was in the book. not valid for this visit. of course. the rooms are ok. flamingo quality with a REAL small bathroom. they gave me a poor view of the side of the 4 queens with the light waterfall and a parking garage. so-they f---ed me over on the room overall.

2. BUFFET-sucked period. small and limited. i woke up to RUN to the bathroom. im not kidding. they have famous bread pudding-i used all the toilet paper in the room, then had to shower. go to main street station, orleans, or hiltons for the price. STEPHANOS however is wonderful but pricy. skip the buffet except for breakfast.

3. casino-tight slots. table games have great people. drink service-moderate but there was this beautiful black chick over by the quarter wheel of fortune who brought me 2 drinks when i ordered. i tip yes-but she was great.

the poker room is high security.

i enjoyed the north tower elevator service/security-i liked the tall dark/italy/young man. he is wonderful with quiet security. a wealth of information. the NUGGET in the window is worth $400,000 to 500,000 based on the price of gold at the time. BEAUTIFUL-tale a look.

conclusion: the best downtown, but watch them and eat elsewhere.

I stayed at the Golden Nugget with my husband and you will find his comments below from pachislo53. I just have a few things to add. For the ladies--if you want decent lighting to put on make-up, forget it. The bathroom as well as the area designated for "primping" with a table and lighted make-up mirror, all are lit with amber colored light, and it is almost impossible to see what you are doing. The bathroom is small; sit down and if the door is not completely closed or open you might lose a kneecap! Our safe quit working; called the front desk and there was someone there to fix it within five minutes. I thought the upgrade at $25 a night was a little steep. Have received upgrades at Strip hotels and didn't pay an extra penny. The Buffet stinks; is really not worth the time. Slots are tight; one of the cashiers (male) was very surly and rude. We may stay at the Nugget again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

First time staying here. The room was nice, although it had an odor that took a while to get used to. I believe it may have been a smoking room at one time and what we were smelling was stale smoke. My only other complaint would be that the towels felt like sand paper! Please GN, get some new towels!

I like the location - I was able to go from casino to casino alone at night while my husband stayed at the GN. We only ate there twice - both times at their coffee shop; once for lunch and once for breakfast. Breakfast was better.

Didn't do well on gambling, although I thought they had a wide variety of machines to play. It did get crowded at night.

All in all, we enjoyed our two free nights here and would definitely stay here again.

Stayed at the Nugget 9/11/04 to 9/18/04, in a South Tower room, 22nd floor, excellent in all respects. This hotel is kept in spotless condition. Housekeeping services are prompt and effcient. Check in is a breeze and friendly. Hotel personnel go out of their way to make guests feel welcome at all times. We have stayed on the strip numerous times but will stay downtown from now on. A very easy property to navigate.

Stayed 8/22 thru 8/28/04. This was our 2nd stay at this property. This time had 2 joining rooms for 5 people. Check-in is easy and hassle free. Was given free tickets for four of us to see "Spirit of the Dance", which was excellent! Rooms are nicely appointed. Hotel/Casino offers style reminiscent of "old" vegas with style comparing to the much newer "expensive" strip properties. Casino is pretty, but comparable to other casinos. Reinvested my minimal winnings. Saw many of the people featured on the t.v. show "The Casino". Enjoyed cuisine at Carson Street Cafe. Try to get a table close to the pathways...is a good people watching spot.

Traveled with 70 year old grandmother...Golden Nugget offered "free of charge" a wheelchair for our entire stay. We used it everywhere we went including the strip and Hoover Dam.

First time using the spa services. My wife and 16 year old cousin each rec'd a pedicure and 25 minute massage. Both of which were enjoyed. Staff were talkative and receptive to conversation.

The Golden Nugget offers glamour and ambiance rivaling the big strip hotels/casinos sometimes a fraction of the cost.

My wife and I continue to choose this hotel because the downtown is our favorite area and the Golden Nugget is the best.

The buffett was good had the sunday brunch and breakfast,Carson Street Cafe was great also. Comps were good, only thing wrong is that they dont have all coinless slots.

Having stayed @ the Nugget like 15-20 times, I feel that the elegant, immaculate, and friendly atmosphere makes this a 5 Star hotel! Each time I have stayed there, the entire staff, from bell desk, to casino, to wait staff, to housekeeping are very friendly, and competent! Never will you encounter a snippy employee, or someone who acts like you are just another guest! The spa is one of the best I've ever seen in the USA! The food is excellent, accommodations are immaculate, and one feels like the Nugget treats one like family! The insanity/crowds of the Strip w/ a million baby-strollers makes me appreciate how classy, serene, and relaxing this great hotel is!

We have been to Vega 3 other times and while we stayed at places on the main stip we are coming back and staying at the Golden Nugget because we viewed it to be the better of the other casinos we have stayed at.

This is a great place, so much as I'm writing this, I almost feel downtown as having more life (which it REALLY does), than the strip. There's so much to do 'downtown', than on the 'strip'. When you hear this music being played outside, you know it's time to cashout, go watch the FREEMONT STREET EXPEIRENCE, and come back in and loose it all. I mean that kindly of course. On our first day we were upgraded to a beautiful two story suite, with a winding staircase, and a few of Freemont. A little biased (I admit, with the great upgrade), but I know that since it's cheap to stay here (hell! it's cheaper than a "Days Inn" folks!!, and a great location (It truly is the ONLY 365/24/7 Resort or 'high quality' hotel downtown, and it's worth every penny. If you don't want to gamble here (I don't blame you), you can walk about a minute outside the door (getting through the TONS of people in the casino mind you) and your there in easy painless walking distance on freemont street, to choose wherever you would like to gamble. Wan't to shop a little, get a quick bite to eat, get a drink, to listen to band...then stay downtown. It's a great place, & this is the best place to stay downtown.

I have been in Vegas yearly for the past six years and always stayed on the strip. This was my first visit to the downtown area and staying at the Golden Nugget. My stay was awesome. The service and hospitality was unbelievable.I never saw so many employees that loved there jobs.Everyone always had a smile on their face and always willing to help you if you needed help.Even the guests staying there were very friendly. The laser show was great and something you had to see. The buffet was fantastic, along with the exceptional food at Carsons.I stayed in the North Tower and the room couldn't have been any nicer than if you were staying on the strip. After staying there from May3thru the 7th, I would not stay on the strip again. I would always stay at the Golden Nugget. Orland Park, Illinois

Hotel:

We arrived at The Golden Nugget late Friday afternoon to check in. Check-in took just a few minutes, even though it was late afternoon on a busy Friday. We had a one-bedroom crown suite in the North Tower. North Tower rooms are the epitome of convenience because the elevator lets you out directly adjacent to both the casino and the main hotel entrance if you need a cab (That said, South Tower rooms still aren’t too bad. Sure, it’s a longer walk to the casino, but it’s still no sweat compared to most anything on the Strip).

The room was clean, spacious, and nicely appointed. A gift basket awaited us with a bunch of lotions and such in the box. I don’t know if that was because they knew we were in town to get married, or if that is standard procedure, but either way it was a very nice touch. The crown suite is simply two standard rooms converted into a suite; one bedroom is just like any other hotel room, and in the other room the bed has been removed and replaced with a large couch, coffee table, and an additional marble table with four chairs. A small wet bar with refrigerator is against one wall. Surprisingly, there was no mini-bar, but with your own fridge and a convenience store next door on Fremont Street, you really don’t need those overpriced temptations anyway.

We entertained 24 guests in our room for a small reception after our nuptials. First, I was surprised, but 26 people fit into that suite fairly comfortably. Second, the room service staff did a great job of putting together a special order spread of finger sandwiches, ships and dips. In fact, the entire hotel staff was highly professional, and exceptional at accommodating all of our special requests over the weekend.

Gaming:

Blackjack has been getting worse and worse over the years, both Downtown and on The Strip. Golden Nugget, thankfully, is a small refuge from many of those terrible games. Double-deck pitch 21 is still available for just $10, and without that insulting 6:5 pay on blackjack. Downtown was bustling in part because of the start of the World Series of Poker, but even at the height of Friday and Saturday night good $10 games could be found on tables, both two-deck pitch and six-deck shoe. Penetration into the decks was fairly good on most tables.

The Golden Nugget has upped their odds on craps, allowing 6x8x10x odds, but table minimums were almost always $10. You’ll need a good bankroll to be taking full advantage of those odds. Decent 3x4x5x odds or better are available everywhere else you look downtown, so a two minute walk will find you at a budget game with nice odds.

The new poker room at The Nugget is a real gem. It has been carved out of the south section of their pool area and is very bright. Large TV’s show ESPN programming and sunlight streams in from the large windows facing the pool. This is easily the best poker room downtown, and probably one of the better rooms in Las Vegas overall. Quality players have already taken notice, and lots of WSOP players could be seen getting in some side action here.

As is obvious, everybody seems to just love the Golden Nugget, or maybe it is just assumed that everything is perfect because new comers are assuming this will be the case. WEll, I'm going to be a harsh critic that is looking into more than just appearances at the Golden Nugget. Yes, the Golden Nugget has nice rooms, decent service, a good location, and used to have decent rates in off season. It seems things behind the scenes have been getting a bit choppy since the internet tycoons bought out the place -- the people not only seem a bit shady, but it seems it's now all about the bottom line ($$$$$), and these guys will be more than a bit pushy to get their way. Personally, and to most people I know, this is not the kind of inner working that I enjoy seeing at a place that I would want to stay at. Most importantly, the new owners of the Golden nugget think that they can push people around & breach contracts on a whim. One of our & many of our friends' personal favorite show, the Amazing Johnathan, which brings crowds & is one of the best in vegas in my honest opinion, was blatantly and forcefully push out of the Golden Nugget in which a multi million dollar contract was breached in the process. The internet boys seem to think they are above the law, and can & will do whatever they want to make the Golden Nugget their cash cow by any means necessary. Personally, I think it's sickening, and I think the new owners are straight up A-holes to boot. I did have a good time staying at the Golden Nugget in the past, but I can say that I will never stay their again & would reccommend to anyone to do the same. A big thumbs down to the Nugget!

We didnt stay at the Nugget, but we had their champange brunch and it was great!! The best buffet that I have ever had!! We also stayed and gambled for a few hours and I had the same problem as others that there were not very meny seats at the low minimum tables, and being not the biggest gambler, I like to play it low. My husband however plays big and had a great time and even took some home!! Overall the casino was very clean and nice people!!

Beautiful hotel and the room prices are fantastic, even on weekends. Check in was quick and staff was very friendly. Our standard room was nicely decorated and very quiet! Not much of a view, but we wouldn't be looking out the window much anyway. What's nice about the Golden Nugget is that everything within the hotel is so close together - restaurants, pool, casino, showroom, that you never have to walk far. Right outside their door is the Fremont Street Experience and a bunch of low limit casinos. We ate at the Carson Street Cafe which was excellent, good food at a good price and we also ate at the Buffet which ended up being the best of the three buffets we ate at during our trip - the other two were Main Street Station and Mandalay Bay's. The casino itself was kind of cramped and we didn't fare too well there playing slots and video poker. Had better luck at neighboring casinos (Fremont & Las Vegas Club). Pool was small and always crowded. Still, you can't beat this place for luxury accommodations at a great price!

The rooms were great and the people were terrific. For MY money there is no place better downtown or on the strip. That said there are a couple things to keep golden nugget from perfect 1, the buffet for anything other than brunch or breakfast leaves something to be desired. It is not expensive compared to aladdin or paris buffets but when I am in vegas I want to eat good not cheap at a buffet. There carson st. cafe is excellent and priced fair. 2, The tables during the day are $10.00 min. so if thats too rich for your blood go to any other property downtown until about 2am when the tables come down. That ends my complaints Now, for my raves. The dealers are great!! Especially on the Pai Gow tables. The dealers will talk to you (and you can understand them!!!) and be more than happy to help you along if you need it my favorite Pai gow dealer was named Mary and a real good teacher. Another nice thing about GN is that they have an automated payout system for handpays on the slots, there is a computer that tells the change ladys what machine and how much!! Very little waiting and no hunting down the change people either! THis place is great and will no longer hunt around las vegas for the best place to stay because I already found it at the GOLDEN NUGGET!! By the way there was one other thing that stood out at the golden nugget, all the employees were HAPPY from the waitresses to housekeeping to the maint. people everyone was happy and LIKED the new owners. CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!

THE GOLDEN NUGGET IS A GREAT PLACE TO STAY. WE STAYED IN A STANDARD ROOM AND IT WAS NICER THAN MANY OF THE SO CALLED UPSCALE ROOMS I HAVE STAYED IN. ALL THE PEOPLE WERE VERY FRIENDLY. THE CASINO WAS CROWDED MOST OF THE TIME, BUT ON A WEEKEND YOU EXPECT THAT. THE BUFFET AT SUPPER WAS O.K. THE LINE GETS LONG IF YOU DON'T GET THERE EARLY. CARSON ST. CAFE HAD GOOD BREAKFAST AND FAST AND FRIENDLY SERVICE. I WOULD DEFINATELY STAY AT THE GN AGAIN.

Stayed Wednesday night Feb 25th in the South Tower. (Room #1574) Everything at the Golden Nugget is first rate. My only complaint is that I thought the room was a little small and had two full sized beds rather than queen sized. The beds were comfortable and everything else made up for the size. I would stay here again anytime I want to stay downtown. I have never stayed anywhere else downtown so I can't compare to other places.

The South Tower is quite a walk from the casino but closer to the parking garage than the north Tower. I will be sure to ask for the North Tower on my next visit.

I will be checking rates here first for every visit from now on.
