We stayed in the Sahara hotel over the weekend and were bitten from head to toe by bed bugs. They changed our room after we were bitten the first night and insisted we be moved, we were bitten again in the second room! I have made the hotel aware of the problem, and requested a refund of the nearly $300 I paid to stay there. I have yet to hear back from the hotel about my refund. The public should be aware of the issue and the hotel should be required to treat the problem before allowing anyone else to rent their rooms. The service was the worst service I have had and would never stay there again!

I Hated this place, when we arrived the rooms were not cleaned at all and the you woulod think that there would be more than two attendants at the front desk for check in. I had a non smoking roon and it smelled like smoke and the TV was like 15 in. The water in the shower was not hot and was luke warm. To top it all off we didnt have water the last night of our stay, I told the front desk and i was told someone would come up in the hour and nobody came. The Location is not good at all because its away from everything at the end of the strip. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU ARE IN DIRE STRAITS. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN

We stayed at the stratos but we were new to gambling and my wife simply refused to play anything over a dollar. There were 4 of us and we all wanted to play together and we found black jack tables here and even the roulette wheel was a dollar. We had fun but it was in spite of some of the rudest dealers i've ever seen. With the exception of 2 pit bosses "Bill" and "Andro" I often felt very unwelcome. We spent at least 20 hours on those 2 games but everday we tried to find somewhere else with friendlier service. I'm embarrassed to say I ended up buying several heinekens from the bar for 5.50 a pop because i couldn't wait anymore. We found friendlier service in several other casinos but none had 1 dollar tables that we could find.

Don't know about the rooms 'cause we did not stay there. Just played in the casino. Every year (at least twice a year for the last 4 years) we loved going to Sahara to play/gamble. However this year was bad. The waitresses were slow and not very accomidating, the drinks seemed watered down (more than usual), the machines were tighter than tight, and the whole place just seemed run down. Not a very good experience this year. Now granted we don't go there expecting to win millions, but some play back would have been nice. I've never seen this place so tight. We won't be back.

I've stayed at the Sahara on business several times and always felt that it was on okay hotel considering you only had to pay $35 a night for a decently clean room. We checked in on Valentine's Day to stay for four nights for trade shows that were in town. The first night we stayed there, there was a cricket in our closet, which seemed odd since we were on the 14th floor in the desert in the middle of winter. However, this was nothing compared to what happened next. I awoke the third day COMPLETELY COVERED in bed bug bites. We filed a complaint and a security guard had to come up and take photos of my bites. When we went to check out of the hotel moments later, they were barely apologetic and told us that there was nothing they could do, that only a legal service provider would be able to contact us and help us. My employers were furious (I was too busy hysterically crying in their lobby), and eventually we got them to refund the money from our stay (I couldn't believe that this was even an issue for them) as well as dry clean all of our clothes. We took the money we got back and spent our last night at the Wynn Encore... it goes without saying that this place was spotless.

It's now three days later and the bites are still appearing (the internet says it could take up to 14 days for all bites to appear), I'm incredibly disgusted and uncomfortable, and I'm terrified that somehow we've taken the bugs home with us. PLEASE save yourself the worry and do not stay at the Sahara.

the casino is not bad buy laid out weird however that is what sold me on this property i thought it cant be that bad even though about 80% of the reviews said stay away the sad part is that this is a casino steeped in history not the first on the strip but very old schooL! THE SKINNY... THE ROOM SUCKED EVEN AFTER I TIPPED THE CLERK 4 A GOOD ROOM i got a filthy room high up w/ a i do not care attitude IT IS NOT LIKE THE CLEANING STAFF ARE NEGLECTFUL but even 4 $35.00$ the walls were dirty the carpet was bad stained the wall paper peeling the only good thing was the bathroom was clean no one in vegas seems to realize how this attitude effects future bus. well i wont be back cheap or not this room should not be rented at any price!!!!! and in the end it is going 2 cost you repeat bus i once stayed at a flea bag motel in flagstaff it was late and just wanted some zzzzzz's and the room at the sahara was just barely above that motel but at least w/ the sno bowl motel i knew what i was getting into value is paramount in my vegas trips but value is being confused w/ cheap !!!! p.s. changing the name adding westwood 2 the name will not get it i am not impressed at all going 2 have 2 go a lot farther than that too win me back SAHARA SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights. The Sahara is not fancy, but it was better than some of the reviews I read. The room was nice. The restaurants were very good. The buffet was O.K. but the selections were very slim. The casino was good to us. They had all of the latest games. I won money here. The pool was very very nice. My wife loved it. Our only problem was with the housekeeping staff. Our bathroom was skipped one day and on another they left no clean towels. A quick call and the problem was resolved. Another plus for the hotel was its location on the monorail system. We used it alot. We would definitely stay here again. For a strip hotel the room rates were very good.

To Whom It May Concern: After doing a bit of research, I found that SBE Entertainment Group LLC is the new owner of the Sahara Hotel and Casino. My family and I travel to Las Vegas about four times annually. We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves at several casino/hotel properties. Since we are not wealthy and I am the resident 'travel agent', I comb the web for bargains, book a four to six night stay and we spend about $1800 between the four of us. Las Vegas has always been a nice little get away. My most recent stay has changed my mind. I am sorry to inform SBE that the current security staff employed by the Sahara leaves much to be desired. A friend of my invited me to an all-girl outing that included two nights at the Sahara Hotel and Casino. She purchased her room and thought the hotel might be sold out by the time she mentioned the trip to me. Anyone who knows anything about Las Vegas knows that during its heyday, The Sahara was something to behold. I felt nostalgic and since the rooms were reasonable on Vegas.com, I booked a two night stay so the four of us would be comfortable. The valet and bell person were very nice as was the gentleman who checked us into the hotel. We explained that we wanted to be in adjoining rooms if at all possible. We were given rooms 2230 and 2228. It seemed that we were going to have a good time until the morning of September 6, 2008.

The four of us were about to leave our rooms and I personally placed the "Do Not Disturb" signs on the outside of the door knobs. A couple of us went to the pool; the other two went to play a few games in the casino.

One of my friends left the pool to get something from her the twenty-second floor. Her key card didn't work and to her surprise, there was a housekeeper inside the room. My friend asked her what she was doing inside the room particularly since the "Do Not Disturb" signs were outside. The sign was no where to be found. The housekeeper would not allow my friend into her room. My friend told her that she could show her identification to prove she was the current occupant and did so. There was no physical contact between the housekeeper and my friend. My friend told the housekeeper to leave as we did not want the rooms cleaned. In hindsight, the entire matter was highly suspicious. I would also like to emphasize that all of these events took place while I was downstairs.

The housekeeper left room 2230 and a few moments later, four or five security guards appeared. They told my traveling companion that she was to be "evicted" from the property for allegedly "assaulting" a housekeeper. My traveling companion is the least likely person I know to have done such a thing and rather than trying to find out what was going on, security escalated the situation. Please note, no one in my party (four women) had been drinking that morning. Also, three of us work for the government (and reside in California) so we are keenly aware of how to treat other people with respect. My friend was publicly demeaned in front of other patrons and purposely taunted. Security threatened to call the police, she told them to do so as she felt she needed protection from them. The police were never called. No official report was ever made and there was no recourse. NO ONE at the Sahara was willing to listen to my friend's recounting of the situation. NO ONE was interested in the fact that I personally placed the "Do Not Disturb" signs outside both of our doors so housekeeping would not enter our rooms. NO ONE cared that a housekeeper DID enter my friend's room and claimed there was no sign nor did she have an explanation as to where the sign disappeared to as it was not on the door handle, where I left it. We will NEVER stay at this property again and we are considering legal action against the Sahara, which would ultimately mean legal action against SBE Entertainment Group LLC. I can't help but think that this is not the sort of publicity SBE Entertainment Group LLC would want.

The most interesting thing was another patron was being "evicted" on the same floor for not picking up a towel. I find this all highly interesting since we were informed at check in that the hotel was booked fairly solid that weekend. It seems it was so booked, security randomly decided to evict TWO people on the 22nd floor? It seems to me that someone at the Sahara is running a scam and anyone considering staying there needs to think again.

Although I was not "evicted" as my traveling companion was, two security guards literally hovered in the hallway while I scrambled to pack my things. One female security guard asked me if I wanted a bell person to come up and help me with my luggage. I said yes and then I became suspicious when she told me it was to expedite my departure. I asked her if I was being "evicted" and if that was the case, I wanted a written copy of the report to submit to Vegas.com to obtain a complete refund of my money since I had done NOTHING wrong. I was told that since my name wasn't on the report, I could not have a copy. Moreover, since my traveling companion was sitting in the lobby waiting on me and they wanted her to leave the premises, they wanted to expedite the process. I was escorted out by security even though, once again, I was not "evicted." I was told the Sahara could not refund my money; I'd have to get it from Vegas.com, where I booked my stay.

The bell person took a different elevator than I did but I was not alone. Two security guards escorted me out to the lobby door. We discussed the weather and other light topics - unlike the guards that dealt with my friend, the two guards on either side of me were quite nice. Once again, I had done nothing wrong yet I too was treated like a criminal.

For whatever reason, the bell person was delayed over fifteen minutes with my luggage. I do not know if someone went through my things to see if perhaps I 'stole' one of the plastic ice chests or maybe a few of the hotel towels. Whatever the reason, the entire affair left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I plan to make certain that everyone knows about it lest they experience the same fate. All travel sites have blogs that allow patrons to comment upon their stays. You have already seen what I plan to share with the world although I have left out the names of those involved. The blog sites will be more complete.

I received a fifty-five dollar refund from Vegas.com instead of half of the money I paid for my stay. I was told that since I only stayed one night, I would have to pay the full price rather than the 20% discount per night. It added insult to injury. In light of the circumstances, my money should have been completely refunded with sincere apologies. Therefore, Vegas.com will also get a very bad but perfectly accurate review all over the Internet.

After speaking with some of my other friends, it seems that there might be a theft ring going on at the Sahara. One in which the housekeeper, the security guards and possibly the bell service were all a part of but whatever the case, I thought the owners should be made aware of the fact that there are major problems at the Sahara Hotel and Casino and I am certain this will not the be last of them so long as the current housekeeping and security staff remain.

Had its good and bad. At check in let them know it was my birthday and was upgraded to a deluxe room with a balcony on the 19th floor. Unfortunatly the toilet didn't work and the sink and shower were very slow to drain. My travel buddy enjoyed playing spot the underwear while looking down from the balcony, seems lots of people hang theres out the window and it blew away and landed on the roof of the other building.

Stayed there from 6/23 - 6/26/08. Booked room through Expedia and got great deal on room. Room was nice and clean. Casino was good as all the dealers were very friendly. Dinner buffet was great value at $6.99 with Sahara Club card. I also purchased a 24 hour pass on monorail, so could easily go from Sahara to anywhere on strip. Will definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Sahara in Jan. using a mailed offer, suite upgrade, limo pickup and $100/$50 play and food credit. For all those who nitpick a place to death because the walk is too long to the buffet, or some other such silliness, listen up "WE HAD A GREAT TIME!!!!" We were treated very well by the staff, check-in was very quick, the room was fresh and clean every day, with no intrusions by the housekeeping staff. We ate at the breakfast buffet 2 days and the food was EXCELLENT! Good selections and plenty of everything. Play was good with a nice selection of slots and video poker in most denominations. Didn't play the tables this time, but they looked active and people were having a good time. The Casbar Lounge is not to be missed. The Tommy Thompson trio with Jeannie Snow on vocals was excellent. If you miss the old time Vegas lounge acts, they are still at the Sahara and as good as ever. All in all, we have probably found a new base in Vegas. Great time!!

my friend and I went to vegas the weekend of dec 22nd 07 and we stayed at the Sahara hotel. It was my first time going. When we woke up from our sleep, we had bed bugs in our beds. We didnt know what the hell they were until we came home and looked them up online. We took pictures so we could show the management. When we went downstairs to complain, the lady at the desk didnt even seem to care. It was as if she didnt even hear us. She then told us the assistant manager was on lunch and asked us to move to the end of the front desk(to get us away from the other guests) when she came back, she had another lady help us check out. We told her about the bugs and she didnt seem to care either. She said due to their policy they could not refund the money for the hotel because it was paid for through vegas.com which is a third party. She said we had to call them instead. She then had the security come down so we could fill out a complaint form. He acted like a jerk and didnt seem to care either. He didnt even care to see the pictures. My friend and I were so pissed off at the service we got there. We figured they could have at least gave our money back from the room service we ordered or a free buffet or something. They had horrible customer service. It was so gross waking up to these bugs in our beds. We will never stay there again.

Asked for non-smoking room, got smoking room and could not change. Like hunting? Take a shotgun as the number of dust bunnies under the beds and TV was appalling. Maid service was nominal at best and food in the hallways was left there overnight and into the following day. The carpets are in bad need of replacement and a new paint job would not hurt either. From my view, a second rate hotel and not one I would re-visit.

This was my 1st visit to Vegas in 14 years and I was very impressed with the Sahara. The check-in took 10 minutes. Stayed in a deluxe room ($53 a night) which was very nice, clean and had wireless internet. Nice view of downtown. Soda and ice machine right outside the door. The casino was very comfortable, $3 blackjack and higher, huge variety of slots and video poker (at which I won back cost of my trip). The poker room was the best. Friendly dealers made me feel very comfortable as I hadn't played live poker in years. Very loose players made it profitable if you were patient. They gave a comp coupon for the buffet after a few hours of play. $60 tournaments three times a day with about $1,800 top prize. Sports book is away from the rest of the casino, a good place to relax, place a bet and watch the game. The buffet was very good and very large. Around $10 which got you a salad bar, fish, pasta, taco's, carving station, omlette station, fruit, etc. Club card points added up very quickly and after my two day I recieved $45 off at the gift shop. All in all a great value. If you are looking for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere the you won't be disappointed. It's the last "Rat Pack" era hotel on the strip.

We have been coming to Vegas for over 25 years and have always stayed at another hotel but found a "special" offer on the Internet for rooms at $57 or $59 and decided to stay at Sahara as it was more reasonable. Well the 1st night's total was $85.02 and the final 2 days we were charged a total of $183+ which is a far cry from $57 x 3. The room was kind of shabby and had horribly stained carpets and went to take a bath at 1 am and there was no stopper for the tub. We did enjoy the Sahara Buffet very much and enjoyed gambling in their casino. The Sahara Club reps were rude to us as I had signed up on their site to get cards and they could not find us in their system and treated us like dummies. I don't believe we will stay there again as I felt duped by the room rate I was quoted and ended up paying. Could have stayed at the other place for what we ended up paying and it is much nicer. Sincerely, DT of NM

I stayed the end of March in the Tangiers Towers (the cheapest rooms). The rooms are nice, not new by any means, but nice. The elevator although fast once the doors close has the creakiest slowest closing doors I have ever witnessed. The great thing is when you come off the elevator the pool area is on the left, the casino is straight ahead and to the right are stores, the hotel lobby and entrance to the Monorail all within a hundred feet or so. If you dont like walking far this is your hotel. Everything is very compact except for the buffet, you have to walk all the way through the casino, past the rides and up an escalator, but everything else is convenient. The pool is quite large, lots of chairs, a bar and overall very nice. Also the double decker bus called The Duece stops at the lobby entrance on the way back from downtown (i.e. it turns off LVB to hit the Sahara and the Hilton) so its just steps to go inside, very convenient and safe when coming back late at night from downtown. Going downtown walk a few hundred feet North of the hotel on Las Vegas Blvd crossing Sahara Ave and catch the bus at the stop across from the Worlds Largest Gift Shop. The area here not so nice, I wouldnt catch a bus late at night there. Monorail takes you close to all the strip hotels. With a $15 24 hour pass, no need for taxis. I purchased my Monorail 24 hour pass after the pool so I had free rides a good part of the next day too. Tangier Towers at the Sahara is not what I would pick for a honeymoon, but is was nice, cheap and comfortable. And unlike a lot of those other hotels, much less walking.

What can I say except that the dealers in this casino seem like they get some sort of a perverse pleasure when you lose. I swear. They don't smile...but if you have a nice size bet out and lose....they smirk when they take your money. No tips that way!! Stay away. The caravan coffee shop is something out of the 50's....as are the waitresses. I saw Jackie Mason sitting in a booth once. He looked like a corpse. Old as Methusala. Go there just for sheer laughs alone. Service is non-existant. When the steak and eggs finally arrive...it's good. Try it for shi*s and giggles.

The rate of the room was really good for the two nights we stayed. Really good parking access close to the casino/elevators to the room. Room was a nice size. Bathroom was clean. Plumbing made a little noise, but worked well. Bed was comfy, free music on tv which was really nice. Needed a full length mirror in room. Front desk didn't answer most of the time; might have had somethign to do with the holiday. The hotel isn't so new but it has been remodeled. Overall the room was pretty nice even though the hotel isn't so new. Nice stay overall. Would stay there again if needed. The hotel is a bit off the strip though. Wish i was closer to the other part of the strip. Although good restaurants and gas stations off the strip nearby on sahara rd which saved money on trip.

Decided to give the sahara a try , was very dissappointed with apathetic service from the front desk to the caravan cafe waitress and the gum chewing cashier .

There was a room service tray outside our room that was there when we checked in on thursday night and did not get picked up until after 1:30 am Sunday, despite bringing it to the attention of multiple people. The food had began to stink.

Service in the caravan cafe was non existant. Had a waitress named Sandy from Kansas , who snapped when she forgot things that were requested and my tablemates asked for them again.

Won't be staying there again.

Excellent value! Heard horror stories about the buffet, but the buffet was great. You can get 2 for 1 coupons everywhere for it! Paco's 2 for one fahita's ARE AWESOME! get a 2 for 1 coupon at "The Drive". Caravan Cafe has $9.99 Prime Rib Dinner, sign up for a Sahara club card and get it for $7.99, what a deal and good food too! I only have two bad comments about the place. IF YOU DON'T WANT A MAID TO COME INTO YOUR ROOM.... CALL house cleaning and tell them not to come in. I guess the "Do Not Disturb" sign doesn't mean anything to them. Maid came in even with the sign up! and the second thing is.... no in-room safe's.... you have to use the bell desk safety deposit boxes...

Was pleasantly surprised by the Sahara. After reading some of the comments I was very worried about the staying there, but a 5 day stay turned up no significant problems. The casino was excellent, the pool was awesome, the rooms and resteraunts ok and the service and staff average at least. Too bad its so far from the centre of the strip but taxis, buses and the monorail take you everywhere from the Sahara. If on a budget the Sahara is a good bet.The phone rate was unreasonable for room to room calls but otherwise prices were very fair. The poker room is ok and the slot tournament was fun. I actually preferred staying at the Sahara compared to New York New York and would probably stay there again

I've stayed here three times. Once was a horrible experience -- got stuck witha smoking room that they first refused to switch for me. Second time, got a MASSIVE room for $39 a nite. Overall, very average in a lot of respects. Be sure to rent a car as there is no other place to walk to. And the slots are tight -- very tight. I gambled for three straight days and won almost nothing. Good thing I went to NY NY and hit for $1,800! :-)

First time at the Sahara. In brief, not a very good experience. I would stay there again only if someone else had booked the trip.

When checking in, we tried the quick check-in machine to avoid the long check-in line. The machine spit out the wrong room, not just to us, but it gave everyone the same room keys. Huge hassle going all the way up there, only to find we've got the wrong room. Then, returning to the lobby and having to stand in the check-in line anyway in order to get this all straightened out.

Asked for a roll-away bed when I made the reservations months previous. I had to ask several times that afternoon and evening, one was finally delivered to our room after 12am. There was no remote control for the TV in our room. I called the front desk and asked for one at least once a day during our stay. One was never delivered to our room.

The Sports Book was small, but effective. The Sports Book staff were friendly and helpful. Some of the table game dealers were not as nice. As a matter of fact, some of the dealers were complete jerks. It didn't take long to figure this out, so we ended up gambling at other casinos.

The location of the Sahara kind of sucks as well. It's not downtown nor on the strip. So, there are very few places to walk to from there. Therefore, it's a cab or public transportation to anything in Vegas.

All and all, it wasn't the worst place in the world, but I probably won't be staying there again.

This was about our 20th trip to vegas and have never stayed here. Will probably stay here from now on though. After staying at a bunch of other, higher priced and snobby places, this was almost refreshing. It's not the Bellagio so don't expect it. For the price, it absolutely cannot be beaten. Nothing really special, nothing really bad. Took 20 minutes to check in at noon. The room was clean and everything worked. The restaurants were fine, the buffet was fine, the poker room was fine, everything was perfectly fine for the money. I can't even complain about the staff. Most other places make you feel as if they are doing you a favor by speaking to you. At least here, they are pleasant and competant. We enjoyed our stay here more than most of our previous trips simply because of the staff. I just get so sick of all those timeshare/free show freaks everywhere I go.

The whole place had a tired gloom about it, Although this is a budget strip hotel basic cleanliness should still have been attended to. The rooms where worn but clean for the most part the public areas especially the lifts where definitely dirty and it wasn’t just a couple of days dust left in the lifts and corridors.

We had 3 rooms and found all of them to be noisy

The buffet on the whole was good value for money but miss the champagne brunch at the weekend, poor quality sparkling wine served warm in a plastic cup is not champagne.

I go to Vegas 4-6 times a year, and almost always stay at the Sahara. It’s nice, but nothing special. The room rates make me keep coming back. The Sahara is on the Strip, but is sometimes cheaper than even some of the places downtown. The rooms are modest, but clean and good-sized. Rooms in the Tangiers Tower are the most comfortable.

Because the Sahara is at the north end of the Strip, there is much less vehicle traffic on the adjacent streets. Anyone who knows how traffic can be around the major casinos on the Strip would appreciate this - it is much easier to drive to and from the Sahara. The monorail station at the Sahara gives you quick and easy access to the rest of the strip, without having to deal with the traffic.

This is an average hotel with OK service. I wouldn't say you’re on your own, but you get what you pay for. Although most of the employees are nice, don't expect a lot of pampering.

Lots of younger people hang out here, but they are friendlier and more approachable than the snooty fakes at the Hard Rock and Mandalay Bay. The people here are mostly young low-rollers just looking for a good time. Gambling is decent here. The casino has a relaxed atmosphere and a good vibe to it. For years, they used to have $1 blackjack (I miss it). Still, they have some of the best poker tournaments I’ve found in Vegas so far.

I only have one complaint about this place... they need to replace & maintain the elevator for the parking garage. That elevator is slow, dirty and foul-smelling. Other than that, this place is good enough for me.

This was my first trip to Vegas and I had already read some reviews from this page. I was worried about the room and air conditioning. So the first thing I did upon arriving at the room was check the A/C. It worked great! I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms ($40 a night) and I was very satisfied. I'm sure it wasn't the best room in Vegas but it was worth a lot more than $40. I am looking forward to going back and I will stay at the Sahara again. I will also suggest to my friends to stay there too.

Happy Camper from South Alabama.

The hotel was ok. The beds are nice but pillows are thin and flat. Over all the room was nice for the price. We ate at the Nascar resturant and it was good but a little expensive. I ate at the coffee shop at the counter and the food was great but the service was a little old lady that couldn't keep any of the orders straight. Other than that it was a very nice trip.

Stayed 6/23 - 6/26/05 Stay was great. Room was on 20th floor..Tangiers tower. I tipped the lady $20 and moved from a bad view 3rd floor room to a 20th with a AWESOME view. Rug was recently shampooed and the king bed was extremely comfortable. Very clean. Unless you were born with a golden spoon in your mouth or are a whiny nit-pic you should be very happy here. Staff at desk was very helpfull. We ate at the diner many times and besides the MIA hostess and slow cashier the service was always super. The casino was ok..considering it was on the strip. Tight slots and the craps table was always packed and they wouldn't open another table for some unknown reason. The location is great.. away yet near everything. Just don't walk the strip from here at night because a few hundred yards down the street is some shady characters passing out smut and the kind of people you'd find in the same presence. Security is good at the hotel and surrounding area so don't let that bother you because its aways away. I'd return without doubt.

well i didnt stay at the sahara however I did gamble here. I needed to get money from an atm for a debit card, not a credit card, so I bypassed the horrible advance fee machines for credit cards and went straight to the one marked atm. the machine charged me 18.99 for 200.00 !!! when it got to that point where you can cancel the transaction I tried but it went through anyway! (not nice) Anyway i went to the video poker machines (played for over an hour on three dollars) then played monopoly on the nickel machine and won 120.00 in less than two minutes!!!! I thought the casino was really beautiful, and drink service was great!!!! will be back

Nothing wrong with the Sahara if you are looking for a good deal. I stayed in the Tangiers tower and my room was fine. Casbar Lounge had good entertainment, and is the last free lounge in town (as far as I know). Buffet was OK, cafe was good. Location isn't great but the Monorail takes you anywhere you wanna go.

Sahara isn't the fanciest place in town, but it is a good value if that's what you are looking for.

I used to stay at the Sahara because of outstanding entertainment in the Casbar Lounge. To me this was the value as the rooms have never been anything to write home about. In the past couple of years the entertainment in the lounge has changed so now average room and senior's entertainment. Room confort not that great as the air-conditioning doesn't work that well

Our stay at the Sahara was very good. We had a very nice room and found the casino cozy. It was very convenient that both the monorail and the strip buses stop at the Sahara. While looking at the ratings we ate at several different places but found that the Sahara buffet was as good or generally better than any other place we went. Our flight left late upon check out and the bell desk were more than happy to hold our bags until departure. Thanks Sahara staff for a nice visit.

was in vegas for 9 days. stayed at the sahara twice during the visit. as i visit vegas often, i recieve room comp letters from sahara. upon arrival, we discovered the room assigned to us was not the one we requested. all it took was a call to the host there, and he not only got us a room we liked, but since we needed a roll away bed, he waived the charge for that too. we always have a great time at the sahara. i always tip the valet, and they remember me and park my car right up front. i would stay here even if i did have to pay for the rooms since they are affordable. also, being at a monorail stop is great. the bell desk is quick in delivering and picking up luggage.

You'd think that a place with a name that's pretty much synonymous with Sin City would be on the up-and-up, but that is not what I concluded after three visits to the Sahara. In all three cases, I left without a dime in my pocket, convinced that their slot machines are rigged: Some have reels that are all bent out shape; others appear to be misaligned; most feature outdated games and a lot of them have graphics so faded that you can't help but wonder if they weren't sitting in a junkpile out in the desert before being installed in their casino. On one occasion, I asked a Slot Supervisor if anyone had ever hit any of those non-progressive jackpots. He unabashedly told me that, personally, he hit them "all the time." This contrasts with with the legions of visitors who leave their hard-earned money there. The last time I was there I approached a an executive who was roaming the premises. I mentioned that the slots seemed to be overly tight. I thought he would relay my thoughts to management, but the only he did was report me to security, because a female security boss treated me to a walk-by as if I was someone who was menancing her money-sucking livelihood. All I can say is that the Nevada Gaming Commission ought to swing by the Sahara Casino to check their slots before they drive more people to the poorhouse. I'd like to know how much they take in versus what they dish out. The numbers must border on the criminal.

If you want an expensive four or five star resort, the SAHARA is not for you. On the other hand if you want a less than $40 night hotel room that is clean and good value for the $$$$. My room had no view but was clean and serviceable. I did not note any smoke smell in the casino, or if there was, it certainly was no worse than others. Monorail still not running but buying a city bus 24 pass at $5 is great value. Location is a little out of the way if you want strip action, but convenient to downtown if you want to visit there. Buffet not pricy compared to some which were $10 more and the food was well prepared. I would return again but likely will stay at another hotel just for the variety next time.

Arrived on 10/18 around 11pm. No wait to check in. Front Desk personal were very friendly and upgraded me to a suite with a 20.00 tip for the same price of a deluxe room. Casino was old but loose. Won enough to keep me going for 4 days. Buffet was so-so, I ended up eating at the 24hr cafe instead. Comp program was very generous and left with total comps and a future 3 night 4 day stay for free. Over all, a great place on a small budget.

October 2004:

Thanks to my free membership in the Sahara winners circle (or whatever their points program is), I get free room offers once every month or two. I decided to take them up on one when I got a sweet airfare deal from America West in October. Good stay... room was clean and nice. No problems checking in or anything. Got shafted in the casino again, but I think that's more my luck than the casino. heh.

Sahara's not Bellagio, but it was free. :o)

June 2004:

I had a good visit at Sahara. I can't speak to the other horror stories mentioned on here, except that my stay was about as far from any of the problems they mentioned as possible. I guess the truism "your mileage may vary" applies here as well.

Of particularly good note was the best hamburger I've ever had delivered via room service (for an outrageous price, of course, but worth it IMO), nice rooms and decor for the price, and nice casino area. Nothing was particularly bad on my visit except the Chinese food in the Sahara Buffet, but I only made that mistake once and ate their breakfast selections the other times. And their breakfast choices were actually quite good. Also, the water pressure in the shower was ridiculously low, but coming from a comparatively water-rich state, I figured it was probably just the way things are in the desert.

For future visits, I wasn't going to consider Sahara simply because of the distance from the heart of the strip (I'm young and able, but lazy). However, now that the Monorail is opening July 15, I'll consider Sahara for future trips.

my wife and I visited Las Vegas for the first time, and stayed at the Sahara. I found out later why they recommended it(the NASCAR theme)

We took the shuttle to the hotel(8 stops) and checked in around 11pm. I called the day before to confirm our reservation for a late check in. They said no problem. There was no line to check in and we found our room on the 20th floor in the towers. The room was nice, like a motel 6, but clean. And we had a real nice view of the city and the tram that doesnt work. I later went down to the casino and found the slots were loose, and was able to play all the table games I always wanted to with my winnings.

We ate at the all nite cafe, had breakfast, which was very good, and then ventured out. We found the city bus was a bargin at 3.00 for a all day pass. So we went toward the center of the strip and back..

Anyways, we had the champaigne brunch, which was nice, but was self service for finding a table ect. The last nite we ate at the mexican restraunt, which was excellent for it not being authenic. When it was time to leave, I asked the concerie desk and they called the shuttle bus for me and we arrived at the airport well ahead of schedule. Overall we enjoyed our visit, found the staff very nice and helpful(BJ dealers the exception) But the pool was open, and was clean. I would say our first visit was a success on a budget, and would visit again, but would also pay more money to find a more upscale hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the Sahara in September 2004. It was a comfortable hotel and good value. I would be happy to stay here again, the only downside was the distance to the center of the strip, especially with no monorail working. The buffet was good value but unfortunately the slots were not too kind.

I have just returned from a 5 day stay at the Sahara and have only praise for the whole experience there. I had a room on the 18th floor of the Tangiers Tower. It was very clean and comfortable. The staff at the hotel was always extremely courtious and helpful. The breakfast at the buffet was low priced and very, very good. The service and food at the Caravan Cafe coffee shop was also excellent and low price for the portions. The staffs at both locations were wonderful to deal with. I was in a group of 20 people and the coffee shop would quickly arrange tables so we could all set together. The waitresses easily managed the orders and who got which seletion. There is no question about returning to the Sahara. It is a great, reasonably priced, comfortable hotel.

Spent a week at Sahara and was very satisfied with my stay. The hotel's not anything fancy, but I wasn't planning on staying in the room much anyway. Our room in the Alexandria Tower could use some redecorating, but it was clean and comfortable. It was over 100 degrees outside a couple of the days we were there, and our room stayed cool enough even though we couldn't control the temp manually.

We visited most of the casinos on the strip, but had the best luck on the slots at the Sahara. The casino was just the right size that you don't feel overwhelmed by the size of the place.

Encountered a variety of personalities with the staff there, but most contacts were positive. The housekeeping lady was very nice and very attentive.

I enjoyed my stay at the Sahara and would definitely return.

The monorail entrance within the hotel was great, but was only able to utilize it one day, then it was shut down the rest of the week.

1st off I would like to tell you all about an incident that happened at the Sahara back in 1998, and why I will never stay there again.

While sleeping one morning about 8am my family and I heard this horrible crash from the bathroon, wha happened was the metal access panel to another floors plumbing was in our bathroom right above the tub and the bolts holding it had rotted and rusted away causing it to come crashing down into the tub. I expressed my concern to hotel manager at the time and he did not even make the effort to COMP the room or adjust my rate or anything. I said to him "What if my son or wife or me had been in there at the time and it had landed on our head and hurt us, or worse killed us??? He acted like he could care less and said to me "Well that didn't happen so forget about it!!!!!, and I am NOT going to COMP your room, SORRY PAL!!!.

Well I don't know how you all like to be treated on vacation???? But I will never stay at this DUMP again and, Please take my advise>>> "Unless you like being treated like this story I just told you??? Don't stay at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas.

The reason why I am writing this letter now is that the Sahara just emailed me wanting me to stay with them again, HA!! HA!! YEA RIGHT!!!!

Please consider another Hotel other than The Sahara, like The Flamingo, Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay these are all great places, and I go out to Vegas once a year.

I have stayed at the Sahara before and this was a good visit. The room was clean, cool, and spacious. Allow plenty of time for check-in cause even tho they say they have automated check-in, it usually doesn't work, and check-in clerks aren't friendly. Also the pool is big and nice, but everytime we stay here, it is closed for half a day every other day. The casino is good and I had good luck there. I especially like the location because it is more out of the way and with a car you can get in and out easier; the traffic in mid-strip is terrible. Plus the parking is MUCH closer to the rooms than other hotels.

after reading all the bad reviews on the Sahara I didn't know what I was in for but it really was great. The people were very nice and helpful, room was nice, tables were loose, I don't play slots so can't comment. The only bad thing i would say is about the trolley's they are usually late and the drivers are horrible. I can't wait for my next visit and would stay here again.

One other thing, forget the time shares they are really not worth it for what they give you and if you don't buy the people are not very nice.

This is the worst Hotel I ahve ever stayed at in Vegas after 15 trips. The Dealers and Pit Bosses are just plain rude. The casino is so smokey it bothered me and it never does. The management did not really seem to care when I expressed my concrerns. They basically told me my level of play was not worth there time. I have never had a casino treat me so poorly. I would bring a tent before I stayed here again. If they were the last casino on earth I would have to stop gambling.

This was my FIRST visit to Las Vegas and I had so much fun despite the Sahara. I stayed at the Sahara because it was very reasonable and overall, the room and air conditioning was better than I expected. BUT that is where the nice words end for the Sahara hotel.

The rude staff, the horrible elevators, the lack of parking, the lack of any courteousness, the smoke, the never ending lines, are all reasons for my never staying at the Sahara again.

The parking lot for the patrons was old, small, very crowded with the slowest broken down elevator I have ever seen. Right next to the lot was a GIGANTIC lot which was supposed to be for valet parking only ,which was 3/4 empty all the time. The should let the patrons park there as well.

The room we were given in the Tangiers tower was on the 7th floor facing the east with no view, but it was very clean and the air conditioning was very cold, which was GREAT.

But on the third day we were there we decided we wanted to switch rooms to have a view of the strip and all the lights.

So I called the front desk and I was told to come down to the front desk and they would try to swith rooms for me. I waited an 1 1/2 in the check-in line only to be told to come back in 2 hours . They later switched rooms to the 25th floor with a great view, but NO AIR CONDITIONING or lock on the door. I called the front desk to complain about the air and was told that they would send someone up to check it. More than 30 minutes later, no one had shown up and we were boiling in the 100+ degree weather with my composure melting away as well. I called the front desk again, and was told very rudely to come down to the front desk to switch rooms. There was no way that I was gonna go back downstairs and wait in that check -in line again for another 2 hours, so I demanded to speak to the manager. Long story short is that we got a beautiful room on the 25th floor with great air conditioning and a wonderful view. But the hassle that it took to get that room was not worth my time and my effort which I could have spent enjoying myself in Vegas.

After reading some previous comments I was a little hesitant. Was I proven wrong. A great place to stay. Had a room in the Tangiers Tower on the 24th Floor with a view of the Strip. Absolutley breathtaking views. The front desk was really helpful and eager to help. Room service was tremendous. Didn't have time to go the pool. The casino was a bit smokey, but what can you do. I highly recommend the Sahara if you are traveling on a budget. Once the monorail opens up, it will be much easier to access the Strip.

Our visit was O.K. The messages we read on the board made us very uneasy. The staff was very friendly and very willing to help. The room was clean but very ran-down. We stayed in the Alexandria Tower and it was very warm. The A/C and heat is controlled by hotel. This was a big disapointment. We did have one good comment about the room, the view from the balcony was incredible of the strip. We took some great pictures. The casino was very good, slots were loose, the table games had some great action and friendly dealers and pit-bosses. The resturant Paco's had great food. The Grind coffee shop had great coffee and snacks. The buffet we did not visit, but the lines were not very long when we walked by of an evening. Overall, if you are looking for value this is your hotel; if you want a more modern comfortable hotel then I'd look elsewhere. I would stop by and gamble the next time we are town, but I do not beleive we will be staying here again. Cook Family, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Just got back from the Sahara and had a great time. Got a room in the Alexadria tower

with a balcony overlooking the strip and pool. Room was nice and big and a great value.

I like staying at that end of the strip because the south end is so congested with people

wandering aimlessly and waddling from one buffet to another. Going back in July and

staying here again.

I booked the Tangiers Tower so I would have control over the a/c. The room was very nice, not much of a view but we were'nt in there much. We had the prime rib buffet on Sat. night and it was good. If you're looking for fancy stuff at the buffet, then go elsewhere. If you don't mind basic fare, then this was filling and tasty. We also did the breakfast buffet and I got Eggbeaters omelet both times and it was freshly made, hot and wonderful. I really liked the Sahara and won't hesitate to go back again.

You get your moneys worth at Saharas. For what I paid, it could have been a lot worse and I would still be happy. Yeah this place isn't the Bellagio, but it ain't some Motel 6. It has all the amenaties of a large resort hotel; decent pool, good restaurants (House of Lords), spa and a few other things but without the price. This is a great place for someone who is going to Vegas on tight budget. It's in between the South strip and downtown, so a short bus ride for $1.75 can take you to both places. I with the dealers were nicer or had more personality.

For someone who goes to vegas and sleeps like 3 hours, Sahara suits me fine.

We stayed 5 days 4 nights at the Sahara....we were a bit worried based on the ratings at this site.....HOWEVER, for the price of $42.00 a night we couldn't beat it. The lobby smells like SMOKE....eww, but we asked for a non-smoking room in Tangiers Tower and the front desk clerk happily obliged after a $20 tip and allowed us to check in 4 hours early. It's NOT the Bellagio, but in all reality, for the money, it was better than a room at the PARIS hotel, and the front clerks were certainly more amiable. Hats off to the Sahara...we had a really great time and the hotel was certainly not as bad as has been reviewed in the past!

"Hi welcome to The Sahara. Would you care to take the stairs to your room or would you prefer to ride our smelly, squeaky elevator with ceiling tiles falling down"? The stairs were fine. I needed to work off some of the overpriced food anyway.

At this point I should have turned around. But here are the highlights.

The room was the size of my microwave. And about as clean as the one in my old fraternity. Some black, baked-on gooey substance was splattered all over the mirror in the bathroom and also on the carpet. Nice touch. Plus the faucet handle was broken. I felt like I was rooming in front of the Bellagio because the toilet water ran so often. All I was missing was a little music to go along with the water show.

Is a $3 daily surcharge for energy usage normal? Because I figure that should have actually had to use some energy to need to pay for energy. I informed housekeeping of a burned out light bulb minutes after checking in and when I left (4 days later) it still hadn't been replaced. What is cool is that I got charged $1 for placing the call to housekeeping to inform them of the darkness. The TV got 12 stations - sometimes. Five of them were fuzzy and one of them was the "Sahara Station". Nice touch. And the air conditioner didn't do a dang thing besides make a little noise. There's a control switch on the wall with a sign that reads something like this. "This switch controls the fan only. The temperature is controlled by the hotel thermostat". Apparently the hotel thermostat is set on 80 and can't be brought down for any reason. Try asking and you'll get the same look your daughter gives you when you ask her if she minds that you chaperone her prom. By the way, on the switch - high, medium, and low all do the same thing - nothing.

One highlight was "The Grind" coffee shop. The coffee and food were great and the guy working the late night shift was extremely friendly. Too bad the rest of the people there aren't being trained by him.

The smell of mold, no toiletries, stained carpet, dirty sheets,

a lamp without a plug-in within cord distance...

I could go on, but instead I'll just sum up with this.

1. Most truck stops are cleaner and more comfortable.

2. If they called today and offered a free room and food for a week, I

would turn it down and pay to stay somewhere else on the strip.

People like to compare apples to oranges and rate a hotel Like the Sahara to Bellagio. Rate the Sahara to what it trully is, a cheap decent casino hotel. It is no 5 star hotel and never will be. For the price it was a good hotel. $360 for five nights including flight to and from Denver. It was ok clean except that a vaccum could be used once in a while. Room size fine. Few cable channels but you are not in Vegas to watch tv. Pool was good. Ate at the buffet and the brunch had good selection for the price. Food quality matches the price of $7-9. Again don't compare the buffet to high price ones. Location not the best, but again you pay more for location. Location will be better when the monorail is working April 2004. Overal 3 out of 5 which fits the hotel. Remember your saving money. If you want a better hotel spend the money!

this is my second visit to the sahara. i stayed here a few years ago. in the mail, i got a comp letter. 2 nights, 50 dollar food credit, and tickets to a show. well, i got a flight from houston on continental for 200 round trip. i got to vegas around 9:30 am and took the shuttle to the hotel. iwhen i got there, i figured i would have to check my bags in with the bell desk since it was early. but when i went to the check in desk, my room was ready. so i headed to my room on the 21st floor. it was a nice room. and had a great view of the strip. i love looking at the strip at night with all the lights on. after settleing in, i went downstairs to the club desk to get a new card. found out i had 78 comp dollars still on my account. grovey! so by charging my food to either my 50 comp credit or to my comp card, i didn't have to pay for any meals. i didn't do great on the slots like the last time when i stayed at the tropicana. but, i had a good time anyway. i decided to get my free ticket to the magic show. great show for the kids, and overall a good show. and after the show, all the magicians came out to the lobby to meet everyone. that right there says they are glad people come to the show. the buffet was good, and i really got my fill. i played some keno and won 44 bucks. not alot, but a good way to kill some time. i decided to ride the trolly around and go to some of the other casinos. not too long of a wait for each one to come by, and only once was it packed. i signed up for just about every slot club card i could find. i also went and checked out the new star trek attraction at the hilton, borg 4D. it was very good. i recomend it to everyone. (live long and prosper) today i am checking out because my 2 nights are up, but before i came here, i booked a room at the plaza for 3 more nights at 25 a night. some special they had on their site. so, i'll write a report for the plaza after i have stayed there. this whole trip with airfare and hotel was only 275 for 5 nights for me. not bad at all. the only bad thing i can say is the monorail is still not finished. i was looking forward to using it, but oh well. amybe SOME day they will get it up and running. overall, the sahara is a good value for the money.

Arrived on a Thursday evening about 9PM. No check-in lines at all. I used a 3 night hotel comp and it only took 2 minutes to check in. Very fast. Room was fine. Standard smoking room with a view of the monorail. Nothing fancy - the only thing that really bugged me was that only shampoo was provided, and no lotion or conditioner. Played $5 BJ that night and won $200+. Ate at the Caravan Cafe and have always been impressed. The service is not the quickest, but wait staff was very friendly and the food is delicious. We ate there a total of 4 times during our 4 day stay. One of the better in-hotel cafes. Reasonably priced and good food. Played BJ a few more nights during our stay and did ok, but not as well as the 1st night. There was one pit boss in particular that was very unfriendly. other than that, we had a terrific stay. My boyfriend and I stay there for the free rooms and the lack of kids. a cab ride to the other end of the trip costs between $9 and $13 and that is the only real disadvantage to staying here. good trip and we only stayed atthe sahara once before and gambled very little, but got a 3-night comp out of it. great deal!
