Date Visited: 06/04 - Bad Visit
The owner of this place must send all his profits to The Bahamas because when I was there it didn't look like any improvements had been made since it opened 50 years ago: The carpet at the entrance was peeling away; the signage was all faded; the rest rooms gave you the creeps. I had brought in a coupon that was in the Sunday paper purporting to be the equivalent of five bucks. No one there had ever seen one and it took about half an hour before it was approved, and even then the five bucks that I won was paid in more funny money! The house eventually won its paper money back. I must have been the only sucker to redeem the darn thing! I tried an order of cheese enchiladas in their restaurant. It was the greasiest supper I've ever had. Whoever started this place had the right idea -- the multicolored MAHONEY'S nameplate was nicely conceived -- but the place has long since degenerated into a hangout for the down and out. Recently, I noticed an advertisement promising renovations, but when I checked back, the only thing that had changed was the carpeting at the front door. I guess the old one disintegrated so they finally installed a new one. Be that as it may, I still think MAHONEY'S should get in line for an inplosion. That area deserves a new casino, preferably not aimed at the "luxury class." There's already one of those on every other corner!
