Stayed at the Tropicana for 6 days and 5 nights, everything went well, check in only took a couple minutes and the room was adequate and clean, which is all we were looing for. Ate alot of meals in the Garden Cafe which stays open 24 hours a day and we actually had to share meals at times because they gave us big portions. Gambled mostly at the hotel (slots) and although we left them alot of money we did have some small wins, but was great entertainment. Did have a small run in with the Players Club in regard to comps but other than that everthing else was fine and we would stay here again.

Received an excellent offer thru our rewards program. Stayed in the Islan Tower, long walk to casino but if you rent a car you can enter hotel thru rear parking lot and save steps. At this visit the video-poker machines had full payouts for nickel/quarter play, however upon returning last January I could not find the same caliber of machines. The poker room is small but they do offer a nightly tournament. The aftrenoon magic show is good and a great value with 2-4-1 coupons. Folies Bergere was a marvelous show and it will be sorely missed. The room was clean and had all the necessaties incl an in-room safe. The view from the room was spectacular, same view from the outside elevators. The drink service was less than impressive with the exception of one waitress on the midnight shift who was above and beyond. The coffee shop is a decent value , food good, prices pretty fair and the service was fine. In summary, if you arrive here with a happy disposition, you'll get a good value at an older yet still vibrant property. If you have high expectations, try a newer place.

This place is a poor value to stay(we did not stay but those we spoke to did not rate the rooms at all) but...and it is a big but we spent 4 days in here playing $5 blackjack and had the best time, great people fantastic dealers and Casino workers. In all we played for 50 hours or so and lost only $300 between two of us and to be fair at times we could have walked away up on the deal but we were having a great time...So thanks Tropicana for giving us a great time.

The Cafe is not the greatest but the food will stop you from starving. It would benefit from some detailed cleaning too.

Just got back from a 7 night stay at the Tropicana. From the advice I read on this site, we upgraded our room to the Paradise Tower right off the bat. It was $20 extra per night. It was great having the elevators only 15 steps from the hotel entrance. It made it very easy to come and go from the hotel as it is not as nice as most of the other hotels on the strip. The catwalk over to the MGM grand is not even 100 yards away. The maid service in the room was great. Room service was great (try the pizza and wing deal). The buffet for breakfast was good (great freshly made omlets). The late night hotel cafe was good as well but there was not much selection on the menu. I did not join the slots club so I cant comment on the comps. All and All, It was a good value place to stay on the strip during the Super Bowl when most places are double the price. I would stay here again during a super bowl or fight weekend when everything else is so expensive. It was a nice cheap get away.

My husband and I just came home from a 3 night stay yesterday. I have to say that after reading the comments about the Tropicana after we had booked we were hesitant. Well, I'm here to tell ya that most were probably isolated instances. We found the check-in (Sat) to be efficient and fast, in our room in less than 10 minutes. We had a nice room for the price, no frills but nothing wrong with it. We had plenty of hot water at all times of the day, housekeeping was consistant and our requests for a few extras were taken care of. Light over the sink in the bathroom was flickering, called and when we returned a few hours later someone had been there to fix it. The service everywhere on the property was exceptional. Food was a bit pricey at the Garden Cafe, but that didn't really matter. Their location is great, walking distance to many other properties. I think we were treated very well and we'll return. We aren't high rollers, but we did get most of our food/drinks/room service comped. That was unexpected, thought we would stop at the players club and ask before we left and we received a cash voucher, a voucher for our room, a couple of t-shirts. Check-out was efficient, when I handed the gal the room voucher she doubled it saying that reservations also track and apply comps that the club does not have a record of. So it pays to ask!! Anyway, a really nice time with no complaints.

as my first trip to vegas i expected a lot. boy were myexpectations screwd. Casino smelled funny and had an odd "dreary" feeling. the room was just OK, not great. garbage left under beds. hallways were dirty and so was carpeting. floors were eneven. we stayed for 3 days. on the first day a pizza box was left inthe hallway. when we left it was still there 3 days later, only someone had kicked its contents all over the hall. outside our window was broken glass.

hotel was filled by yahoos who don't sleep. non stop noise. thank god i stayed out late. however you get back at 5 am and they are still having a wresting match in the ajoining room?

the pool: ice cold and outdoors. it was 30+ degrees outside and i was shivering.

resteraunt: like a Denny's.

overall: never EVER stay there again. not even if it was free. granted the rooms were $100/night, but i expected better than a holiday inn, not worse, especiallly since its Vegas. Stay FAR away.

First off, I admit that I went the cheap route by staying here. I also know that that the Trop will not be around much longer. However, there are certain expectations that I have for any hotel/casino, that simply were not met. Check-in was a nightmare. After waiting in line for about 45 minutes, I get up to the desk around 4 PM. I am not that my room is not ready yet. I always thought check-in was at 3. The guy told me to check back in an hour. Mind you check out is at 11 AM, and they have no problem charging your credit card if you check out late. I had already got my bags back from the baggage check. I wasn't about to re-check them for just an hour, so I sat and waited with my bags, until my room was finaly ready at a little after five. The manager on duty did nothing to compensate me for the delay. I felt that at least a free dinner at the cafe was called for. I decided to take a shower. Guess what? No hot water. Barely warm. I could MAYBE see if it was 10 AM and most of the hotel had just taken a shower, but 5 in the afternoon? Turns out, it didn't matter when I took a shower, because there was never hot water for the 4 days I sayed there. Not in the sink, not in the shower. I am not a fan of shaving with warm to cold water. I even asked someone else on the same floor if they had this problem, and they said they did. The hotel never fixed this problem. Second problem with the room, was the toilet seat was broken. Not just kind of broken, I mean it came off in my hand kind of broken. You would think someone would have noticed this before I did. Housekeeping doesn't, clean the toilet? This is what I had to wait an extra hour to check in for? They did fix it right away, so one good mark for the Trop. Housekeeping was very inconsistant during my stay. One morning one of my trash cans was not emptied, sometimes the ashtray was not dumped. The casino itself was OK, but I didn't spend much time there. I would not stay at the Trop again, even if they gave me a free night or two.

Fourth visit to Vegas from the UK (twice at the Aladdin and once at the Luxor). OK so we stayed at the

Trop because we had a cheap deal on flights and booked the holiday on that basis so a cheap hotel was

needed as well. Price for 7 days inclduing memorial weekend averaged $67 per night!

So firstly how can anybody complain in Vegas because their room is miles away what do they expect

with hotels that literally cover acres of space thier room right next to the lift and reception - madness!

We paid for a cheap hotel and compared with the other hotels in Vegas we have stayed in thats what we

got. However, that does not mean it was not good value - Sure the room (Island Tower) is older and the

TV is smaller but it was always clean, the water always hot, the bed comfortable and with mirrors on the

ceiling !!! :-). The view was the best I have ever had in Vegas looking out at the Luxor, Excaliber, NY NY

and MGM! - The swimming pool is wonderful, the spa was very nice and a great way to start everday.

The Casino provided me with my first ever winning holiday and is a great place to gamble - playing

Video Poker and Rapid Roulette - I'm no big gambler $50 per day is my max - but I signed up to the

winners card and ended up with a free t-shirt, free show tickets, and a very small amount of cash back.

Only bad things: massive queue at reception to check in and only three staff (we saw this repeated

everyday!) and the service and food in the Garden Cafe - I recieved a bowl of barely warm soup and

sent it back all they did was microwave it - same bowl, same spoon - cheap!

My boyfriend and I stayed for the first time at this hotel and it was terrible! When we got there no one helped us with our bags to start the stay off then when we checked in the room was WAY in the back of the hotel. We basically needed a go cart to get over there. When we were walking down the hallway the celling was falling apart and the room numbers on some of the doors were written in with a sharpee pen. The elevator was so old that it took 5min for it to go up 2 floors and the paint was so worne off in the elevator it looked like it had not had repairs since 1960. When we got to the room...WHAT a disapointment! The table that comes in the room had 2 mismatched chairs and it was just not kept up well. My opinion on this hotel is it needs to be renovated in a SERIOUS way! We payed over $300 for this room and it was not worth it AT ALL! I wish we could have gotten our money back to be dead honest! The only good thing about the hotel was the pool. That is it!

Lets face it. The "Tiffany on the Strip" is dead. This place is completley outdated and the only things it has to offer is it's location and a sometimes clean pool. A one time landmark casino is now a low rent wanta be. When you enter the casino you had better have a gas mask because the smoke will sear your eyes and burn your lungs in no time flat. The only thing I can figure out is that the semi-low room rates and $4.00 beers are helping to keep it open. Hopefully, the new renovations will bring new life into this place because it certainly deserves it.

The room (rear tower) was clean and spacious.

The staff was available and accomodating and the pool was awesome!

The Comedy Stop is a great time and the best entertainment deal I have found.

Casino and poolside Margaritas are surprisingly good. (As rated by my wife.)

The only complaint I have is that the room was a bit warm for my liking and there was no means of cooling it via thermostat or opening a window. (A maintenance guy came up, but a cleaner filter did not help.) I far prefer rooms with independent AC or access to fresh air.

A great base to explore the south end of the strip - Good memories!

This was our first stay at the Tropicana. I had read some nasty reviews of this place. My wife and I found those to be totally unfounded. This hotel is probably the best value on the strip. Yes, it is an older hotel. The place was clean, the staff very helpful. The restaurants were very good. The Island Buffet was O.K. but a little pricey. The casino is small and mostly coin operated. We saw all their shows for free. The Folies Bergere and the Dirk Arthur shows were great. Our stay was very enjoyable and we will definitely stay here again. Also, the pool was teriffic. We enjoyed the adults only pool very much.

After cancelling our trip in June because of death in family, we rebooked in July/August. We had read several negative comments about the Tropicana and were a little apprehensive about staying here. When we arrived at 1 a.m., due to a flight delay, we were thrilled to see that we had been upgraded to the Island Tower. Our room was wonderful. The only complaint we had, was they never seemed to leave enough towels. There was my husband, my teenaged daughter, and myself. We seem to have 2 bath towels and 2 wash cloths. That was rectified when we called housekeeping, and they graciously arrived within 10 minutes with another set of towels. The personnel was friendly and willing to help. The location was great. My husband and I enjoyed the adults only pool area. I wish I had visited it more than 1 day during our 8 day stay. Next time I will visit it everyday!! My husband will be returning in November for business. Hoping to book here. We all will be coming back out next summer. We will definetly stay here. Very convenient to the airport and friends who live just past the airport. Can't wait to return to the perfect weather. . . Blue sky, sunny and hot. Love it.

I stayed at the Trop four years ago in one of the suites and loved it, but service was so-so then. I opted

to stay there again anyway this visit and I was glad I did. Forget the negative comments on service at

this hotel, it was excellent everywhere we went - the buffet, the 24-hour restaurant. The masseusse I

had told me that the hotel has changed hands and WILL NOT BE TORN DOWN as was the rumor. New

carpet (it was a bit musty) and some new machines, but nothing major.

As well it should be. It's a landmark in a great location and a couple minor issues aside (no coffeepot in

the room and flourescent lights in the bathroom that do not flatter us ladies(!), it was just what we

wanted. Price was right, comfortable, bright. Awesome pool area that I comapred to other properties

while we were there and held up well. I enjoyed drinks the Bellagio and Caesar's but have no need for

such splendor for my stay (honeymoon, maybe?). The Trop is just my style and price, and I'll stay there

again when it's my brithday and time to go back! :) Weekend buffet included champagne and had

everything we wanted, plus the waiter just kept those glasses full until we cut ourselves off!

This is a weary good hotel! Stayed for 10 days in a Island tower room (free upgrade from a garden room). Perfect comfort regarding the room- temperature, size, beds and bathroom. There’s a big safe to put your values in... The room were clean and did not smell (neither did any other part of the hotel except for the Island buffet *terrible*). Cleaning were weary good and the distance to the Casino ain´t nothing to talk about (unless you have a moving disability). Weary good room rates and perfect location on the strip !!!! Comments from May 2006 Visit--

I stayed here one night, in a "garden room," after two nights at the chic new "Red Rock Resort." If I had a week to stay at either location, and money was no object, I'd pick the Trop. There was no techno music booming by the pool. There was a better mixture of ages and people (at Red Rock, I was surrounded by body-building, tattoo-laden twentysomething guys and Barbie doll girls OR families with little kids).

The Trop is a more traditional hotel casino and the price is right. The garden room is an EconoLodge-like room, but how much time do you really spend in your room anyway? It got a little noisy by the pool at 3 AM, when some drunken people left the casino to stroll around the pool, but that noise didn't last long.

I hope they get rid of the musty smell that's all over the hotel. And updating the rooms a bit would be nice. I heard the Trop's future is unknown. Instead of ripping down a Vegas institution (and a unique "classic" hotel amidst newer resorts on the corner of the Strip and Tropicana Avenue), I hope they just update the place. And don't touch that pool! It's great!

Comments from June 2005 Visit--

Great location, great price........I'm not a high roller, and I have modest taste (I don't need a $300 room at the Venetian to satisfy me). So this place was perfect. GREAT POOL--the best I've been to in Vegas. It was cold--not the lukewarm bathtub water found in other hotel pools. I could lounge by their pool all day. I stayed in the Island Tower, which was a hike from the casino but was quiet and had a great view of the pool. The Garden rooms look interesting (especially the ones with pool views)--with the balconies and all. If I have to pick some drawbacks, they would be--LONG check in line on Sunday afternoon. So-so buffet. And rather inattentive bartenders at the video poker bars in the casino. But I will be back--provided the Trop doesn't get taken down.

Our suite was at the top of the back tower, called an executive suite. Huge living room with a bar and a separate bathroom. The big bedroom had a jacuzzi that probably would have fit 8 comfortably.

The bathroom area was itself bigger than many a room I have had in the past. A horseshoe shapped sink area with two separate areas, a separate room for a sauna, a separate room for a steam room, a huge bath and a separate shower room.

Eating at Pietro's or Mizuno's is simply a treat. Pietro himself cooked for us and entertained us with conversation at our table, but the food is the thing at it was fantastic.

Mainly, I am a blackjack player. The rules at their $25 tables are good and unlike many other places the pit and dealers are very friendly. I actually witnessed a table game supervisor give proper advice to a novice player and backed it up by showing the player a basic strategy card. So instead of getting grumpy when a player puts one on the table, this pit handed one to the player.

Dealers when not busy were allowed to just talk to players who might stop by the table but not want to play. Most of the corporate places discourage this.

I also play VP and though the Trop has some good VP at fifty cents and higher, my gripe about the place is the fact that none of these machines are TITO and many require handpays at low levels. Some machines require hand pays at $250, others a little higher but more often if you are cashing out a couple of hundred, your machine will need a fill and sometimes that takes too much time. Again, if you are getting paid, it is a minor inconvience.

Kids don't belong in a casino. PERIOD! The trop is a great place to gamble. My only problem with the whole place is the stinky carpets. Man... it really burns your nose. Saw one rude bartender yell.. AND I MEAN YELL at 2 customers.

Personally, I would have told him to stick it.

I was playing 300.00 per hand on blackjack and they comped me 2 Folies Bergere tickets in one of the red seats up front. I thought that was cool. I did receive a mailing from them saying they would comp my room if I returned "provided" that I gamble a great deal there. After all I played there, I would have expected a little more. Returning in May 2006 but staying downtown.

Nice location. Close to airport. Japanese rest. is awesome.

Trop is great value and has an unbeatable location, two minutes walk from MGM and Excalibur and Hooters and five minutes from NY NY and Monte Carlo. Casino has 5-dollar tables and wide range of slots. Staff very, very friendly. Dont book shows in advance as half-price tickets are always available. Other deals for hotel attractions readily available.

Buffet very acceptable for the price and 24-hour Calypsos restaurant was a pleasant refuge as it overlooks pool and lagoon gardens with sunny and shady spots always free during our visit.

A good place to stay with monorail and deuce strip coaches on your doorstep.

Considering the location and the actual room and it's cleanliness I give this property high marks. WHile the little settee was pretty "worn" most of the room was lovely.

We were in the back tower and it was waaaay to far to walk after a long day of sigh seeing and gambling. It seemed a little scarey for me to walk late at night for some reason. I did not see much security.

I will rate the casino and buffet in the appropriate places but they get low marks for various reasons. The slot club operation is ridiculous.

The people were mostly friendly but a smile only makes p for a certain amounbt of displeasure.

This was my 3rd stay at the Trop. Avoid the garden rooms and get into one of the towers. The check in staff are friendly and will accomadate you with a wonderful view of either the mountains or the strip, a view you can pay a lot more for at other properties. Yes, its an older place, and lacks the pizzaz of the newer hotels, but it has old Vegas feel, and can be a fantastic value. The location is 5 star. I never had any problem with parking. The drink and buffet prices are a bit pricey for an older place, but the breakfast buffet is good, espicially the made to order ommlettes and the chef who prepares them for you. I did well on the slots, and yes they are older machines for the most part. The dining selections are plentiful, and they will comp them down to a bargin price for you. The 24 hr resturant was just what it should be, always clean, friendly and available. The free shows above the casino floor (airplay) were an added treat. You won't spend your entire visit here, mainly because of the convenient location, but its a good place to stay at a decent value. I hope the future renovation plans keep a lot of the old time feel that the Trop has. We will return here!!

If you looking for a great location at a reasonable price (yes las vegas is getting expensive) than you should stay at the Trop. The hotel is older, but has an old vegas feel to it. My boyfriend and I have stayed at serveral strip hotels, but they are all getting so expensive. The rooms was clean and very easy to get to. We do pay the upgrade to get a strip view, so I recommend you do that. We were able to see THe Titanic Exhibit and Folies Berger, both I would highly recommend. The employees were friendly and fun. We were able to check right in with only a very short wait in line. Express checkout was easy and fast. The pool rocked, best in town, valet was quick, and the casino was the perfect size so we did not get lost. Try and catch the Titanic Exhibit before it leaves the city, this is a must see. We had a terric time and will return again later in the fall.

I reserved an Island Tower room fot $70.00 a night four four nights. We arrived at noon and the room wansn't ready. At 3pm we got the keys to our room 1880 and found the air conditioning inadequate. I contacted the front desk manager and within 15 minutes the maintenance man arrived and changed the air filter, made a few adjustments, and the a/c was blowing frigid air.

The room in the Island tower was clean and nicely laid out. The a/c was central so it was MUCH quiter than the units in other hotels I've stayed at including the Golden Nugget and Orleans. The mirrors that surrounded the bed were a nice touch, but if you are nearsighted and need glasses then they aren't really a plus. But if you are 21 and don't wear glasses, you might enjoy them. :-)

The pool was empty during my stay. It looked very nice with waterfalls etc but the sun didn't hit the pool except for about an hour in early afternoon.

The Island tower is near the parking lot (but not the garage). It's a LOOOONG walk from the Island Tower to the Front Desk. However, to get from the Island Tower room to to the parkng lot you have to go through the electrical supply and sewage supply sections unless you take the floor above and choose to walk down the numerous stairs.

Calypso's was adequate for breakfast. The Trop has a great location. The Island Tower rooms are quite nice. But be prepared to walk, walk, walk....

Stayed at Trop in September 2005. My second time here, and have to say Paradise Tower is worth the extra money. Fortunately, when desk woman pulled up my reservation, she genuinely seemed interested in qualifying me as a return customer. I explained my first trip to vegas was Nov 2004. I booked room on my own, and had friends fly in and stay with me. I explained the Island Tower was sufficient, but that it was a long walk from casino. She gave me free upgrade to Paradise Tower...... Paradise Tower is right off casino floor. When you walk in to the casino, you'll see elevator banks to your immediate right. They go to the rooms in Paradise Tower. I was very happy with the upgrade. Especially since the table games have pretty much taken most of my money the last time I was here. Casino is ok to visit and play here and there. I wouldn't recommend anyone looking to play for long time to play here. However, I did hit a .50 slot for a jackpot at 6am one morning, coming back from clubs. That was awesome, no one was in the casino at the time. I had like 4 dollars in my pocket. My friends wanted to go throw the money they had left into slots, and disappeared into casino. I put in my four bucks, and hit max bet.... on third pull, the alarm went off, and the little display said please wait for attendant.... I almost SH&* myself!!!!... about 10 min attendant came by and said I won $600, not bad. Made my trip, and P'd off my friends who lost their $$$...... anyway, Paradise tower is clean, nice, much newer looking than Island Tower. Trop is older casino, but people are extremely friendly, and the location makes it worth staying. Pool is outstanding, however you need to get there early ( 11am-1pm). Sun only shines on some parts, with tower there, and bridge over pool.... Didn't see Folies Bergere, for 40 more saw "O" at Bellagio, much better value.... Will visit again, hopefully before they implode this Las Vegas icon

Stayed at the Tropicana back in early '90s. Had not been back. Friends had told me the hotel was too old school at a time of all the new building. A friend gave me his comps, so how bad could it be?

Parking could be a bear because this old school hotel lacks a parking structure conveniently attached to the hotel. Made the walk to the front desk, checked-in, and was given a room at the Island Tower on the airport side of the property. Another long walk. Oh well, it was free.

The room was clean. The bathroom had been updated. The air conditioner had a hard time keeping the room cold. Forgot to bring a fan.

The casino places slots in almost every nook. The table games were adequate. Single deck was 6 to 5. The lounge was comfortable. The trio played a good selection of both rock & modern rock from the '80s. Drink prices were a rip at $5.50. Hit the comedy show. Adequate, although too short.

Overall, a middle-of-the-road visit. I cannot believe the Trop will be around much longer in it's current incarnation. With megaresorts on the other 3 corners and the new Hooters casino taking over the San Remo nextdoor, the pressure to change will be too great.

I made reservations 3 months in advance and I admit it was a good deal. I stayed in the original (old) building. They need to upgrade this part of the hotel. The carpeting needs replacing specially in the stairwells which smelled really bad (had to hold my breath).

Room: Big and clean. Glad the air conditioning was working, it was 100+ everyday we stayed there. Check-in was fast, it was Wednesday night. Room had a safe.

Buffet: Food selection limited. Paid for lunch buffet but they still had breakfast menu at 1 pm! Waitresses weren't so congenial... pointed to our table instead of bringing us there. They need to smile a little bit. Food taste was average. Not worth the price.

Pool: Excellent. The water was clear and cool. The waterfall was a plus and so were the jacuzzis.

Parking: Smallish. At night, hardly could find any. Good thing there's guest door access from the parking lot.

If you like old fashioned charm...stay here. If you prefer new and trendy...don't stay here. I wasn't sure what to expect since the Tropicana is one of the oldest and cheepest hotels on the strip. I was pleasantly supprised. The hotel is decorated to reflect a Cuban style of design and decorating. Lots of dark stained natural wood and beautiful stained glass ceilings in the casino. Yes, the Tropicana is dated, but I wouldn't change it. It's nice to stay in a hotel that reflects what the origional Las Vegas looked like. A new hotel would never pull off steping back in time as well as an actual old hotel. The hotel has a great location, a top rated pool, but sadly, the restaurant (don't even remember the name) is not worth a second trip. WHO CARES IF THE ROOM IS OUT DATED. IF YOUR PAYING FOR A CHEEP HOTEL DON'T EXPECT THE BELAGIO! The rooms are decorated in a tropical 80's decor. It was clean and we had a great view of the beautiful pool with tons of palm trees! Besides you don't go to Las Vegas to spend time in your hotel room. Some of the other casinos are so crowded it's annoying. Not this casino, it dosn't draw a large crowd which I really appreciated.

My husband & I stayed at the Trop the week of 4/25. Had a great time. Check-in was a breeze. Check-in is at 3:pm, but we checked in at 9:30 a.m. and room was already available; employees very friendly, from check-in to the housekeeping staff. Bellhops are very accommodating. Had a Garden Room which was clean with more than enough room for the 2 of us and had a usable balcony with a view overlooking Tropicana Avenue and the MGM Grand. Room was very close to casino - one floor up and down the hallway.

The only thing that came up was when I tried to adjust the thermostat and it fell off the wall. We picked it up and took it to the Manager on Duty on our way to breakfast. She said she would have maintenance take care of it. We got back from breakfast and the maintenance staff showed up in 5 minutes to look at it. We noticed when it fell off the wall there were no wires attached. Turns out (according to the maintenance man), the thermostats are basically for show, as the system is bypassed and controlled by the hotel. The only thing you have control of in the room is the fan, which has a seperate control on the wall. Even though the temp is controlled by the hotel, the room air temp in the room was comfortable our entire stay. Maintenance re-attached the stat to the wall.

Breakfast buffet is bland, casino is small with tight slots. We didn't play very much here. Saw their Folies Bergere show and wasn't impressed. We took the stairs to our room most of the time, since it was only one flight up. The stairways smell, so I held my breath. I know this sounds like there was more bad than good, that's not true. We would stay here again without hesitation. This was a great stay for a bargain price. The only time we were in our roomm was to sleep and shower.

Visited the Trop for my first time, not quite knowing what to expect. Although the place is no Bellagio, I thought it offered excellent value. We got upgraded to the Island Towers by a very friendly staff. The room was average size with a spacious bathroom. The casino slots were a bit outdated, but the comps for playing more than made up for it. We got tee shirts, playing cards, cash back, and 2 pairs of show tickets for about 4 hours of play. The Players Club hosts were very friendly. The Dirk Arthur Magic show was great for families. I especially like the ease of getting to the rooms after parking my car. If dropped off by taxi in front though, you'll have a 5 minute walk to the Island Towers. The Trop sits on a great corner, another plus, seeing we played at MGM and Excallibur too. The buffets seemed a little pricey, so we didn't eat at all there. All in all, for $59 a night, I'd go back!

This is the first time we stayed here, the service was great. The casino staff were very friendly for the most part. We would defintly stay here again, depending on rates. We came on superbowl weekend so the rates were very high everywhere.

I had read the reviews before we stayed there, and I was concerned because of all the negative reviews. This is a old casino, and the rooms do not copare to the more expensive and newer casinos, but the rooms were very clean and confortable. iI played at a lot of different tables and all of the dealers were nice. The place was packed so table limits were high. I did not mind that at the blackjack tables but I am not used to $10.00 roulette.

How do you get cigarette burns on the carpet of a non-smoking room? Easy. Stay at the Trop. This is the second time I've stayed at the Trop and definitely the last. Where do I start? First, the shower would not drain (on either visit) so I had standing water in the tub and by the time my family showered, it was a full bath. Nice. I sat down at a few tables to play cards and the dealers were cold and snippy. I lost A LOT of money the first 6 hours gambling here; the same amount I lost over 5 days of gambling at NYNY. I don't care about losing but I do care about principle. I tried to get a comp because it was a substantial amount. The pit boss looked at me and said, "It's not my fault you don't know when to get up!" I told him I'd take anything, even a hoagie sandwich. Nope. So, I wandered over to NYNY, sat down, and played all night. At 6am, I got up to leave and the pit boss gave me a comp for breakfast at their buffet. I decided then that I as going to go check out of my room at the Trop and check into NYNY. The Trop said since we booked on Expedia that I had to contact Expedia to cancel my room. No problem. Expedia said it was not true, that all they have to do is cancel the room but fees could apply. They could reverse the charges and recredit my bank account. The TROP said they wouldn't and there was nothing they could do. I looked at her plainly, throwing my comp card on the counter, and said, "What? Bad service, rude people, and nothing we can do about it? I can't either but what I can do is NEVER come back here again. I'm not checking out now, going to keep that room all week so you can't rent it again, and going to check into NYNY now!" Plus, on our first visit I forget my cell phone charger and they were going to charge me $10 for shipping!

Their stupid buffet was lousy too. And, I have no idea what their stupid $1 a day phone fee is for? I told her I had a cell phone and they could take the dang phone out of my room. Why are they charging $1 to have a phone in my room? Charge me per call, not because I have a phone in my room!

NYNY has all of my business now. The staff is fun, friendly, and we had some fun. I lost my a55 but had fun doing it. And, their waitresses (beer ladies as they prefer to be called) were very prompt!

We stayed in December so it was nice that they have an indoor pool but you can also use outdoor huttubs 24 hrs/ day. Over all the I loved the Old School Vegas feel, Rooms were functional, clean and classic Vegas -light years ahead of similar priced rooms at IP, New Frontier or Excalibur or San Remo, not as nice as Luxor, Paris or Flamingo, but not as expensive either,

My wife and I are not high rollers by any means; but to a blue collar couple who tossed away $5k for the trip (with at least half of that in the Trop's casino alone) that is big spending to us and probably most of you who don't live on a 6 figure income. But I guess since we didn't play on the $100 tables or slots, we were dismissed as small potatoes and got totally screwed with the comps. MGM and NYNY are my personal favorites. NICE comps, considering we didn't even stay at their hotels. Trust me, pay the extra $$$ and stay at the MGM or NYNY. Our bed at the Trop was so bad my wife is still complaining about her back. Whatever air fragrance they use...it is awful! You'll know exactly what I'm talking about the minute you set foot in the front lobby.

This one will make you laugh. Since we were here during the holiday season, some of the shows were not running. They told us they will give us Trop t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets in exchange. My wife dug the idea, as they will make easy souvenirs to dole out to friends. Well upon checking out at the Player's Club, they told us that the shows were again running and that would be our comp vice the clothing. We told them that we are flying out in a few hours and that you never told us about the shows starting up again. To make a long story short, we spoke to the "Promotions Supervisor", who remained headstrong on not giving out a couple of freaking tops and jackets....and it wasn't even about the free stuff at that point. It was about being treated with some respect and gratitude for choosing their establishment. Sorry...didn't get it from these guys. When we told our friends who were staying there with us about what happened at the Player's Club desk, they went over there too. Now our friends were on the card tables every night and racked up far more comps than my wife and I did. Same treatment with them. The supervisor literally said, "If you were such valued guests as you make yourselves out to be, then we would be hosting you"...whatever he meant by that. Total insult! His final offer was to comp us some free crap on our "next visit" to their hotel....yeah right, like I'm staying there again.

Like the previous poster, I was suckered in to trying out the "free" $30 in gambling tokens with a $20 buy in. You must pick one machine in a roped off area and you cannot cash out unless you hit the jackpot. They also have touts out in the front sidewalk trying to con you into some BS timeshare promo that will waste a beautiful afternoon in exchange for some $75 type comp. The only good thing I can say about the hotel is that it is a cheaper place to stay and remain in close proximity of the top notch casinos. If the Dunes and Sands had to go, this should definitely be the next one on the chopping block!

Once again my stay at the Trop was very nice. I particularly appriciate how friendly the staff is from the desk to the waitresses to the slot attendents. I would definitely recommend this hotel for those who do not want the size or the cost of the newer more eloborate places

Second time I've stayed here. For a $20 tip and some sweet talk, had 2 rooms bumped up to the front tower. The service was great. We did have problems with one of the rooms AC (Filter was filled to the rim!), but we called for service and they were there in 10 minutes and replaced the furnace. I'm not a big fan of the casino, but I brought my parents for the week and they enjoyed the $5 black jack. There was always a $5 BJ table available. I'd stay here again as I love the pool (never too busy to find a chair). This is not the best hotel on the strip, but for $35 a nite, it was the best hotel for the price on the strip.

I was at the Tropicana in the last week of September. The location is wonderful. I saw the Rick Thomas show and for less than $20 it was well worth it. I stayed in the Garden rooms and for $58 a night including taxes etc. it was very cheap. The garden rooms are located down a seperate hall off the casino. If you have trouble walking dont get one as my room was quite a walk. My room was non smoking on the second floor overlooking the pool. Very nice view. The room itself was not bad. The beds were kind of cheap, but the room was o.k. One nice thing is that it had a safe ($3.40 a night charge for using it though), hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, soap, plenty of towels, etc. The only problem I encountered was the sink didnt drain very well. Anyhow being on the pool side my room was very quiet. The pool is very large and very nice with a bar to get your own or a waitress that came around. No complaints. I ate at the buffet for breakfast two out of four mornings. It was o.k but the area the food is laid out in is very small, no carved meats in the morning, the had hash browns with onions, no regular hash browns, one guy cooking omlets, definately nothing to brag about and for $11.95 (same price as the MGM right across the street) you can figure out where I was the other two mornings. Due to its smallness I did not try it out for lunch or dinner. Too many great choices a short walk away to waste my time. I did eat a Calypsos and had an excellent sirlion steak burgers charbroiled to perfection with fries and was very pleased with both the service and the food. When you join the slot club they give you coupons, one of which is for 1/2 price burger at Calypsos. A number of others are for two for one drinks or $1 margarittas. Join the slot club even if you dont gamble, the freebies are worth a few minutes of your time. They also give you a free deck of cards. Casino was small compared to some the newer ones and it is set up in a square so it doesnt take a week to figure out where everything is. I would definately go back to the Trop due the reasonable room rates but it would not be a place for a romantic interlude type trip just a nice place with a decent room. Nothing to knock your socks off.

THERE'S A REASON THIS HOTEL IS CHEAP. IT SMELLS LIKE AN OLD FOLKS HOME! HAVE THEY EVER HEARD OF VENTILATION OR REMODELING? BETWEEN THE SMELL OF SMOKE AND AN UNIDENTIFIED SMELL OF SULFUR(AKA ROTTEN ASS) MINGLED WITH A SLIGHT "TROPICAL" SCENT. IT WAS AMAZING THAT WE MADE IT TO OUR ROOM GIVEN THE FACT THAT WE WERE HOLDING OUR BREATH THE WHOLE WAY THERE. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT WE HAD TO WAIT TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES TO GET AN ELEVATOR RIDE UP TO OUR ROOM ON THE 3RD FLOOR!!!!!! WE UPGRADED TO A "BETTER" ROOM IN THE ISLAND TOWER FOR AN EXTRA TEN DOLLARS A NIGHT. AS FREQUENT VISITORS TO LAS VEGAS WE'VE STAYED IN THE LUXOR, NEW YORK NEW YORK, AND TREASURE ISLAND. WERE FAMILIAR WITH THE COST OF HOTEL ROOMS AND WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT. IM SURE I PAID WWAAAAAAAYYYYYYY TOO MUCH TO STAY AT THE TROPICANA. WHEN WE OPENED THE DOOR TO THE ROOM I FELT MY SKIN CRAWL. THAT PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY CUE TO LEAVE. THE CARPET WAS STAINED AND THE ROOM SMELLED LIKE THAT LOVELY SCENT I DESCRIBED EARLIER. THE MATTRESS WAS STAINED WITH GOD KNOWS WHAT. THE ONLY REDEEMING THING I CAN SAY WAS THAT THE TOWELS AND SHEETS WERE CLEAN(I HOPE). THE BATHROOM WAS SCUMMY AND OLD. THE TILE ON THE FLOOR WAS CRACKED, THE TUB WAS STAINED, AND WHEN YOU TURNED ON THE SHOWER YOU ALMOST GOT KNOCKED OUT BY THE WATER PRESSURE! THE POOL HAD NICE LITTLE THINGS FLOATING IN IT. ROCKS, BUGS, IMAGINE ANYTHING. IT WAS PROBABLY THERE. MY SON WHO'S 14 WOKE UP SCREAMING BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE HAD BUGS CRAWLING ON HIM. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO BUGS. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO A HOMELESS PERSON(I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT SLEEPING OUT ON THE STRIP. ITS MUCH CLEANER) THANK GOD THIS PLACE IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE KNOCKED DOWN. IT SUCKS. I'LL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN, SO IF YOU'RE PLANNING A TRIP TO THE TROPICANA...BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the past 18 months, we have visited as Vegas 3 times and have stayed at the Trop all 3 times! This hotel/casino ROCKS! The staff is friendly, the atmosphere ever friendlier, and the promotions and comps the best on the strip! We have stayed previously at The Paris (VERY bad), Stardust, and Treasure Island. The Paris and TI are pretentious, stuffy and not anywhere near as much fun as the Trop. Sure, the hotel is old, maybe even a little run down, but that's part of its charm, too. We're saddened to hear they may be tearing it down to build new. It's a shame, because from what we saw, the Trop is the place for the most down-to-earth, casual fun you can have on the strip. We're going back in February 2005 and are hoping the Trop is still there. Otherwise, we'll probably try the old Flamingo, if the deals are good. Don't miss a treal fun time: stay at the Trop!

When we missed most of our first night due to flight delays out of philly international, the people at Tropicana's front desk upgraded our room for free. We originally we set to stay in a standard room by the pool, but instead they put us in a parlor suite overlooking the strip. For the price we paid our friends and family could not believe the pictures or the view. Our room was well kept and very clean, especially in the bathroom. The service was great and everyone was very friendly and helpful.

The pool was very nice and swim up blackjack was cool. We had to get out early to get seats, but we did not mind. The pool was never over crowded and was nice and cool since it was so hot outside. The drinks at the pool were pricey as expected, but they were worth it--good tasting and gave ya a nice buzz. We went to the deli for lunch and you can take out a good sandwhich for a good price.

The casino was nice once you get passed the smell of insense. I had some luck hitting for a couple hundred here and there. The waitresses were quick and friendly. I would def visit the tropicana again! Its a great deal with a great location!

Returned to the Tropicana for the second time in two years. No free upgrades this time, but for a $20 tip to the check-in clerk, got a very nice upgrade from a garden room to a Paradise Tower room with a great strip view! The room was showing its age -- sink stopper didn't work, toilet needed 3 attempts to flush -- but for $40 a night (booked via the hotel's own website), who's complaining? If you're looking for good value accommodations, you can't go wrong at the Trop! Be sure to spin the wheel at the entrance to win free (or half-price) show tickets, or, at the very least, a deck of cards! Also be sure to check out the Gambling Museum. The exhibits and videos of casino implosions are quite entertaining. Pools are great too. Long live the Trop!

to a Paradise Got an upgrade from a garden room to the Paradise Tower, but my family found the walk to the pool area a bit long. Nice atmosphere, but a snarky room service attendant nearly ruined my wife's stay. Other service, fortunately, was exemplary, notably the maid service and the check-in, which was surprisingly busy for a Sunday afternoon. Air conditioning was really struggling in the 115 degree heat, and the room was showing its age. Oddly, no security at the elevators to the Tower, like there was at Harrah's where we stayed last year.

This was the worst trip to vegas I have ever had as far as accomodations.

The rooms we reserved weeks in advance were not available when we arrived.

I reserved 4 rooms for 8 of my employees. Not one room was nice. Either the

A/C wasn't working or the bathroom was full of mold or the the view outside was

trash ( cups, cig butts, paper etc.) The hotel staff lied, once about money left on the counter and again about who the manager on duty was. Housekeeping walked in on all our rooms without knocking. Cocktail servers were cussing as they talked about customers and fellow employees. Calypso staff were rude.

Many more incidents but I've complained enough. I will never stay at the Tropicana again!

PREDICTION

Lee has heard many good things about the Tropicana, so is going to stay there for his birthday. He is going to win big in the Tropicana casino, near the "water" on his second night. He is going to play light on the first night (a little blackjack), then play a little more on the second night (mainly 25 cent slot machines) he will switch to $1 machines for $10-20 (max) and will win between $500 and $5,000 dollars. Any lost money will be made up playing a little "craps". He will spend no more than $30 a day gambling, and his wife cannot spend more than $50 a day. He will trust his instincts between 9-10pm on the second night, when he sees the color pink and the "cowboy hat".

After several years of staying EXCLUSIVELY at the Trop, and being comped for rooms and meals every time, I have decided to move my line to another hotel. While my casino host is a wonderful provider, and having made several friends among the dealers, the overall seediness of the accomodtions and difficulty in getting to my room-regardless of where it was-has become tedious. I love the "old Vegas" feel of the casino...look up and see some beautiful stained glass...but the rooms have become terrible!!

I will still visit the casino when I'm in town, but will probably not stay in this run-down old hotel again.

Dayton to Las Vegas on Delta Airlines. Met my sister and her family check in on Sunday leave Friday. Front desk accommadating, We had Paradise Tower but my sister was booked in Island Tower. Front Desk was able to get two adjoining rooms in Front Tower High Floor, gave $20 tip.

We had our 9 year old Grandson who lives with us in Ohio. Sister with her 9 year old and 11 year old girl from Idaho. Kids loved the Pool and all the surrounding activites. Was not as much of a disaster as I thought. I gambled early morning and late at night like I always do. It is a pain around the casinos with the kids, but the kids really enjoyed the trip.

consistantly lost playing Craps at the Tropicana and everywhere else. Did not loss any winnings was never ahead by much till last roll before leaving then my wife came to find me. SEVEN OUT! Just enough to get me to come back. but not to the Tropicana. Stardust gets us for the next trip.(April 05)

Activities included: swimming, miniature golf, Hiking Red Rocks(always), Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead Cruise, Show at Orleans and (Gambling More and More each year)I will try one more trip (Stardust)to see if I can win.:) Good Luck Ned

i have been going to las vegas, and the trop, since i was a little girl. well i finall turned 21 and what better place to be than the place i had been going for years. i had always loved the pool and even though the rooms were below par i just wanted to have some fun. let me just say AHHHHHHH. the night we checked in we needed hundreds of $$ per day for incedentals, plus our room charge. i almost didnt have enough on my credit card b/c we were staying 9 nites- loooong trip! my husband and i spent most of our time playing at the trop even though the sports book made me feel like i was in some scary illegal bookie operation. we hit the slots, we hit the tables, dropping around $500/ day. i assumed that our food and drink charges would be covered and that we would have a good portion of our room covered. we had a host who was MIA at the time of checkout. then we were told $50 would be taken off our substantial bill and that was all. i, of course, argued to no success. they explained that the 2 free nites we used from my husbands players card(he was 23 @ the time and had played there many times b4) had to be paid for out of our comps. so @ $70 a nite there went $140 of our comps. they also said that i only "lost" around $1200. so every time i was playing and hit a jackpot, my comps went down. pardon me for not losing every cent i gambled.i was so furious i called my host after we arrived home and her response was, "well if you had lost more.......". screw them! we have since moved to NYNY. we stayed 1/2 the time and played 1/2 the money in april of 05 and they comped us nearly $200. plus they brought us in on the casino rate and didnt make us pay them back for the discount. we are going again sep of 05 and are getting a great price. the trop may be ok if you want a nice pool and a lower rate, but if you want to be treated like a valued player, please do yourself a favor, stay at a nicer hotel.

It seems like booking a Las Vegas Hotel is as much a gamble as playing in the casino that's why I am taking the time to write this. The review on this site were mixed, but we decided to take a chance and stay at the Tropicana and so now we are RECOMMENDING the hotel! The hotel is older, but much more intimate versus intimidating as with many of the mega resorts in Las Vegas. We were greeted with quick and efficient service in valet and the same at check-in. The Front Desk person, Rita, smiled and greeted with a warm welcome to the hotel. She offered to upgrade our room for a nominal charge for a great strip view. The $30 was well worth the upgrade. She then suggested dinner at Savannah's, the hotel steak house. (Dinner was fantastic!) We wanted to see the showgirls, but the show was sold out. We did get a chance to see Rick Thomas, which was a magic show with white tigers. A wonderful show for the family even though it was just the girls this trip. We also enjoyed the free show Air Play in the casino. Free acrobatic shows that take place every two hours. Very cool, and the guys were fun to watch! The casinos was the perfect size, not to big not to small. Lucky Twenty was a cool game and we won several great prizes. We also joined their slot club, The Winners Club for free show tickets and tee shirts. We even earned enough to have one night free. All in all the stay was great. The rooms could be updated, but hey who spends time in the rooms and the price was perfect. The pool was amazing, the best in Vegas and a 24hr Jacuzzi! We had a great time and will definitely come back to the Tropicana. One more thing. Go to their website for the best price!

I took my father to stay here. When he told me he wanted to go to Vegas I planned an exclusive weekend at Manadalay Bay but he insisted on going back to the Tropicana where he and my Mom were married. After reading some of the comments and with much apprehesion I honored his wishes. I had nothing to worry about it was one of the best trips! When we arrived we upgraded to the front tower which was well worth $30. It was close to the entrance and casino. My father won money on a slot machine he was convinced he and my Mom played a year ago! I enjoyed the pool and had a great massage at the spa. We saw the Folies which we had both seen before but it was a whole new show and ended the evening with dinner in Pietro's a must! All I can say is the free casino shows, the friendly service, and awesome location make this a must see and stay!

Just visited the Trop 4/26 - 4/29/04. This was our 3rd stay at the Trop. My wife and I used to love this hotel. I'll preface my complaint by stating that overall this stay was as good as any until the final day. Check in was smooth and pleasant as always, room in the Paradise tower was as aspected (clean and quite on the 19th floor), casino staff, cocktail servers, and maid staff all A-1 as always. My wife and I were taking another couple to Vegas for their first visit, as always we booked directly with the Trop from the mailings we receive from the players club. 1 room in my name for my wife and I (4 days with a late check out on the 5th day) and 1 room in my wife's name for our friends (4 days). We always deal with the same person in casino promotions and always book at least 2 months in advance. After booking our rooms, my wife contacted the person in promotions to let her know when we would be arriving. My wife recieved an e-mail back from giving us the upgrade to the tower rooms and comping the late check out. No problems so far, we check in and the upgrades are already in the system for us. Now for the problem. In the past we have always used our comps to pay for most if not all of our room bill. Well it seems things have changed at the Trop concerning their comp policy. We have always received 1 or 2 free nights from the mailings and in the past free meant free. Not so anymore. When we checked our comps, we were told that we were now a house account and that all our comps had been applied to the rooms to cover the free nights we received in the mail. To make matters worse, when I called the front desk to verify the late check out, I was informed that there was no notes on a late check out and that I would have to pay half the room rate for the day which was $300 due to a convention in town. Insted of arguing the matter over the phone, we go down to the desk to speak with the manager armed with my mail offer listing the rate for the room at $119. We understand that mistakes happen and if we have to pay the half rate for the room we will, but at the rate on my card, not half of $300. We speak with a manager and explain the situation. Her response, oh well, nothing she could do! We should have taken care of those arrangments when we booked the room through promotions. Hello, we did! It's not our fault the computers didn't get notated. We even told her we would go get the e-mail confirmation from promotions out of our luggage at the bell desk if needed to verify our arrangments. We were promptly told the best she could do, due to the fact that she could not verify it with anyone in promotions, was to give us the rate on the card, but we would have to pay the full days rate for the late check out! I love the Trop and it's casino, but with their change in comp policies and the way we were treated at front desk, this will be our last visit to this grand old Lady of the Strip!

This was the filthiest hotel I have ever seen! Our non-smoking room stunk of smoke, the tub liner was peeling, there were huge green stains on the carpet, and something bit me the one and only night we braved to stay there!

We spoke to management about our complaints and they offered to "upgrade" us to a cheaper room! They were rude and unhelpful. We paid for a 4 night package stay there and luckily found a room at the MGM for the other 3 nights. We are currently demanding a credit on our charge and filing a dispute with our credit card company. If only our supposed travel agent had known that they were tearing this fleabag down we might have had a better first day in Vegas.

Stay anywhere but here!

I stayed at the Tropicana Mar. 22-25, 2004 for spring break. The hotel was booked through a travel agent, and I hadn't even heard of it until I received my confirmation. Check-in was extremely quick, however I had to wait two hours for my room to be ready because the travel agent booked smoking, but I wanted no smoking. They happily changed my room at no charge (of course!). My boyfriend and I stayed in the Island Tower, which was ok. The ceilings were pretty low, and the hotel just seems overall old. My room had one king bed with a couch, desk, etc. However, I was pretty disappointed that there was no coffee-maker or even a refrigerator in the room, which as an upgrade from the garden rooms. The bathroom was in definite need of some updating. The tub was large, but very dingy. So dingy, that I called housekeeping to come clean it again, but it looked exactly the same when she was done. I chose not to use the tub afterall. The sink was standard, with old knobs. Upon showering, I noticed the towels were very cheap quality, and I was left picking lint off my body all day long. This was especially a pain, because I wear contacts, and kept getting lent in my eyes. The bed was pretty comfortable, although the comforter had cigarette burns and smelled like rotten eggs. The casino itself is pretty classic, not as pretty as the major hotels, and I didn't notice anyone winning any big amounts of anything. For breakfast my boyfriend and I ate breakfast at the buffet, and we both were very disappointed. After eating at the Excalibur the night before, the Tropicana brunch tasted horrible compared to the Excalibur. They served cheap Costco Taquitos, pork chops, under-cooked bacon, salad, and fruit. The final night we decided to get in the indoor hot-tub, which was great. Overall, we spent most of our time away from the Tropicana because it was just so boring and old compared to the other hotel/casinos. I don't consider myself a picky person, but this place just wasn't for me. I don't mind spending alot of money on nice things, if they are worth it. And the Tropicana is just not worth it. Next time we will definitely be staying at the Venetian, or Bellagio. However, if you simply want somewhere to lay your heard, and don't want to spend grand amounts of money, the Tropicana will serve you just fine. I don't want to discourage anyone from visiting the Tropicana, it just wasn't for me.

It was a nice hotel. The room was nice and clean. I think the people who

work there are confused tho. The over head show started and the

announcer said "get your cameras ready" but when you take your

cameras out the security tell you to put them away. The security was rude

and needs a lesson in having a personality. Other than that the food was

really good. They have a 14.99 crab and steak dinner. Make sure have

sometime, service was slllooooooowww! Comps are really good too.

Lots of free stuff. Over all, good place to stay.

Tropicana Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas! This was our first trip to Las Vegas, and since it was our honeymoon we wanted to see a more Traditional Las Vegas that's why the Tropicana caught our eye with their slogan " The Way Las Vegas Was Meant To Be" while surfing the internet. We discovered a well kept secret, you can book directly on-line with the Tropicana and save off of their regular rates and those so called travel discounts sites. I figure we saved about $50.00 over three nights, money we used to upgrade to a fabulous strip view in their Paradise Tower. The room was clean and smelled great! A bit dated, but hey we wanted traditional Las Vegas and we got it. The hotel had several restaurants to choose from. We decided on Steaks from Savannah's Steakhouse. The meal was fantastic with one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. The wine selection was perfect, and nothing was overpriced. We used room service a few time, always fast and hot. Their coffee shop Calypsoss was also excellent. Everyone was very warm and friendly.

The highlight of our stay was going to see several shows. The Tropicana has the legendary show Folies Bergere (topless showgirls) and the Rick Thomas Magic Show. No he is not the one attached by the Tiger. Both shows were incredible, but book early as they did sellout. There is another show which is free in the casino called Airplay. You got to see it to believe it, and its FREE! Acrobatics show over the casino, a must see.

The casino was the perfect size and lots of fun. We really didn't win, but since everyone was so friendly it didn't hurt to bad. As long as we got our free cocktails we were happy!

When we went to checkout, we noticed a problem with our bill. There was a discrepancy with the rate. The very outgoing front desk person took a moment to research the issue and made the correction to our account. I was expecting a problem, but it was very quickly and easily resolved.

The bellman had our bags waiting for us and valet quickly retrieved the car within a few minutes and we were on our way with a thank you and invitation back to the hotel.

The Tropicana is an outstanding value in a prime location. If you want a great time, fantastic food and outstanding service this is the hotel for you.

You cannot get a better value than the Tropicana! We went to their website and got great rates. The place itself was great. We were treated great at check-in and all throughout our stay. All the employees were very helpful. Though the casino is smaller than some of the mega-resorts, we thought it was very comfortable. We had an outstanding dinner at Savanna Steakhouse (GREAT steaks!) and good food at their coffee shop, Calypsos. (Get the nachos!) The hotel itself is right on the greatest corner of the Strip and all the other hotels are really close. The Trop also has an indoor pool that we got to enjoy even though it was cold out. We even saw a show with real showgirls! The Folies Bergere is great! Certainly better than all those Cirque du Soleil shows we saw popping up everywhere else. You can earn free tickets to the show by joining their players club. That's what we did! With the great room value, great shows (they have free shows, too!), good food, and the best location, we will definitely make a habit out of staying at the Trop!

I stayed at the Trop for a 3 day seminar. Overall, I was happy with the visit, but would not rate the Trop as high as some other nearby hotels. I stayed in the Island Tower (the back tower), which is quite a walk from the casino and front desk. The air conditioning did not work, and the room was too warm (in January!). The rooms seemed clean enough. Interesting touches like a mirrored cieling above the bed and a big tub in the bathroom made it slightly better than your average hotel.

The casino is smokey! Kind of a stale musty odor, but you get used to it quickly and it isn't so bad as to take offense to. The dealers seemed average on helpfulness and courteousness. There were usually two $5 blackjack tables, and craps tables were also $5 min. Every afternoon at 5:00pm, they have some aerial acrobatic show which is downright annoying when you are playing and can't hear yourself think.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. Across the street from MGM, which is a much nicer place to hang out. Better bars, mix of people, and gambling (though mostly $10 and up). Also close to Luxor, Mandalay Bay, and NY/NY, which are also cool to visit.

I would return again, given the reasonable rates, especially during the week for this part of the strip. Get the upgrade to the Paradise Tower (above casino), though!
