First time staying off the strip and enjoyed it very much. Slots were not too tight and restaurants were great. Prices were good enough. Found this to be a lot like the Orleans and I enjoyed my stay. We will be back if possible. Needed a car but the driving was easy and we had no trouble getting to where we wanted to go. Our room was spacious and clean and not too far from the elevator. No noise at all.
Fun! Fun! Fun!

If you have a car, this property is a very nice option for the money. It is similar to Orleans in many respects. The rooms are spacious and clean. It almost seems like there should be more in the room to fill up the space, but all the basics are covered. I did note the casino really smelled smoky, more so than I remember at other locations.

This spa isn't on the ratings list yet, so I'll give my comments here. I only have one other to compare it to (Red Rock) and I would say it is right on par with the "classier" property. I enjoyed a relaxing massage and the spa facilities. The one downside to the spa is the sandals they provide are very uncomfortable. Bring your own if possible.

My wife and I had a delightful 3 night stay between Christmas and New Years, even though the gambling did not work out well. The location leaves a lot to be desired, but we did have a car so it was not too bad. However, I missed being able to walk out the door and being on the strip. The room was quite large and very nice, and the bathroom was certainly adequate. One negative with housekeeping was that one morning they only left towels for one guest. We ate almost all of our meals in the hotel and I was very favorably impressed with the restaurants. The prices were much more reasonable than comparable restaurants on the strip, and the food was excellent in all of the restaurants we tried (Steakhouse, Italian Restaurant, Oyster bar and coffee shop). The dueling pianos near the sportsbook late at night were quite awful. I would have moved to the other end of the casino to escape them except that I was having pretty good luck on the machines at that point. I have stayed in Vegas more than 50 times over the past 30 years, staying everywhere from Bellagio to Westward Ho and most places in between, and would rate this stay in the top 10%.

First stay at South Pointe and it was great. Rooms are big and very clean. Check in was quick at Noon arrival. Breakfast buffet was OK, except the omelet station, which was great. Food at the Coronado Cafe was very good, at the Silverado Steakhouse was excellent. All employees I came in contact were very helpful and very friendly. Won some money on the slots. Will definitely stay there again on my next visit.

It's a pleasant drive, but take the highway it's faster. Excellent bright property! Very very clean. Staff exceptionally friendly and valet nice and quick. Had trouble w/ our safe which turned into about an hour of lost time. After it still wasn't working the second day, I complained and we were given a suite. Good offer of $60/night, second night free. $20 trick did not work, but we were given a high floor and near the elevator. Did okay gambling, better on higher denomination machines. They have 3:2 bj for $5, plenty of tables. Buffet was just okay.

Overall, this is a great hotel & casino to both stay and play. I visit Vegas for the first time last year and stayed both here and a four-star hotel and enjoyed this stay much more. It's not just because it's convenient for my bingo playing and because I have really good luck here, but also because the restaurants are really tasty for the price. This casino is rated as a 3.5 five star, but could easily be a five star if management worked on the staff's customer service, but I do think the new owner is going to address that if he hasn't already. Still, this hotel and casino is by far my favorite...

This place is right for the price, but I did not enjoy it. The rooms are nice enough, the casino is bright and looks nice, and my girlfriend enjoyed the spa but that's about where it ended for me. The buffet and Don Vitos were absolutely atrocious. The table games were catered too much for the locals and the BJ dealers don't even check their hole care on a 10 - increasing their odds dramatically. The restaurants, the casino, the dealers, and the other players are what really turned me off. Maybe I am too accustomed to the upper scale strip hotels or I'm just not "a local" but outside of a nice room and some pretty good dueling pianos in the bar, this place kinda sucked. First time off the strip - last time off the strip.

Have stayed twice. Overnight last summer and recently for four nights.

I enthusiastically recommend. A very nice place.

The rooms, staff and feel is that of the Golden Nugget as it was under Steve Wynn. (That is a very good thing!) Everything is kept very clean and the 'newness' is still present. Bright but not overly so. Neither quite or noisy. With very few exceptions, a friendly, courteous staff . Several dining options are available (although Baja Miguel's is in the process of being replaced with Micheal's which is transferring from Barbary Coast).

The clientel consists of both young and those a bit closer to 'the golden years' and every age in between. A comfortable, relaxed atmosphere prevails.

The departure from Boyd's is viewed, by the staff I spoke with about it anyway, as a good thing and all are excited about the future of the hotel.

No place is perfect so there are a couple areas that need improvement. The Coronado Cafe was inconsistent as far as quality of food.(Carson Street Cafe it isn't.) The 'floor' people at Table Games spoke far more to the dealers rather than the players (which is contrary to customer service goals I am sure). Payouts vary drastically on the seemingly same video poker machines (so look before you leap). Perhaps it was just bad luck, but we found the slot machines to be hungry for our dollars and very reluctant to reimburse. The showroom is not open yet so the entertainment venue is sparse. Unless one travels by cab, a car is a must.(There are no casinos within walking distance and I view taking the shuttle to Mandalay Bay as a desparate measure.)

Overall though, we are very pleased with and will be returning to the South Point when next we visit Las Vegas!

we played at the south point in april 06 and found the 1.00 and .25 slots to be "very" friendly so we decided to return in oct i contacted a slot host since i am a rated player at a couple of strip casinos and she comp'ed us a couple of nights and upon our arrival we discovered that she had left the casino due to the fact that it was changing owners and she had worked for the previous owner for quite a while we had to deal with a new host and she was great too deal with. everyone in the casino from the maids to the security people were wonderful to deal with. we areslot players and it seems like every 5 minutes there was a waitress in our area. we ate at the buffet on numerous occasions and the food was always good we also tryed dom vito's and it was awesome try the seafood divallo (sp) it is wonderful. we played a lot of quarter slots and dollar slots and made enough money so as we are returning in April 07 we have previously stayed at places like the aladdin, monte carlo paris and the excalibur (when it was new lol) and the south point was much more friendly and the entire staff went out of thier way to make our visit outstanding

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the South Coast. Great place! Away from the Strip, but, we always rent a car so that was no problem. An exit on I-15 would have been nice and I hear that there's one on the drawing board. The three restaurants that we tried(Buffet-breakfast and dinner, Cafe-breakfast and dinner, and Baja Miquels-dinner) were good and a good value. It's soon to be called the South Pointe. The place is a winner all around, we found no fault and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Really impressed with this "locals" hotel! Was here for a few days attending a seminar at the equesterian arena. The arena is really nice, one of the nicest facilites I've been too, if you are a horse person you will enjoy this arena; totally climate controlled. Even though it was 110 outside, inside the arena it was a nice 70 degrees!! I usually stay on the strip and the crowd in this hotel/casino was very different. Lots of families, locals and very nice ordinary pleasant tourists (however, did see some "working girls" Sat. night!)

Loved the room, perfect size, not too small/big! The beds were really comfortable and the plasma tv was great; spoiled me terribly!!! I had a great view of the mountains, as the hotel is out there by it's self there's not much else to see (for now, but the area is being built up like gangbusters!!) The elevators were the fastest I've ever taken in Vegas (if you've ever stayed in Imperial Palace you will appreciate this!) Hotel service was good, no complaints here.

Ate at the Coronado Cafe twice, chinese food both times and very good. Had a meal at the mexican food, Baja Miguel's, and that was very tasty. Ate at the buffet twice, dinner was so-so, enjoyed the mogonloian barbeque best, and breakfast was much better and a good buy at $7. Coffee was good at the Seatlles Best with good service. Service was pretty average, not bad but not outstanding either!

Casino has a ton of video poker machines, about half slots/half video poker. Not much luck on the slots; would say not much better than what I win on the strip. But a lot of pennies and nickles but I saw lots of dollar and quarter slots as well. Casino is laid out a bit as a rectangle so you can explore quite a bit. Drink service was a bit slow; just depended on where you were at on the floor.

The hotel also has a movie theatre and bowling alley. I don't use the pool but lots of people were out there!!!

I would stay here again no problem but I would highly recommend having a car to get around in. There is a shuttle service and they run on time!!! When the schedule says the bus leaves at a certain time, by God, that bus is leaving! I suggest getting out to the shuttle area at least 10 minutes before leaving time. They also have a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport and bring you back but you need to make a reservation and it only runs at certain times.

I would recommend this hotel/casino!!

Casino visit only. Very Orleans feel. Won a little. I would stay there as I saw a room. The only complaint I have with coast properties as they need free wi-fi. Not the rip off fee they charge for high speed internet.

I stayed at the South Coast the weekend of June 17-20, 2006. I brought my family (kids 8, 6, 5) and we had a blast. The pool area was great, the kids loved the bowling ally, and we saw a couple of movies.

The rooms were really big and the 42" plasma screen was a big plus as we watched the US play Italy in World Cup soccer. The rooms were nice and roomy and could easily hold a family of 5. The bathroom was all tiled and very nice also. Other than the 42" TV, the other furnishing in the room were just like other hotels. I wonder how this place will look a few years from now? *Please note that we are not a family that enjoys or is capable of paying $300 plus a night to stay in the high roller resorts. If you are used to staying at the Venetian or Bellagio this might not be the place for you. I will definitly stay here again though. Oh yea, a plus for californians, the ventalation system here is supurb! Didn't smell like smoke at all.

Buffet was pretty good. Nothing great but had more than enough to choose from (Mexican, Chinese, BBQ, Seafood, Great desserts). Price from lunch was $7.45. I thought that was a fair price.

All in all I rate this hotel very high. I think its a great value and if you have kids they will love it.

Pros
Staff: The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make sure things were to our satisfaction.

Casino: The casino area was very bright and roomy. Even when the tables were full, we felt like we were not cramped.

Room: Really nice and very large. We really got spoiled by the 42 inch big screen. The individually controlled air conditioning worked perfectly. We also enjoyed the separate sink and bath areas and amenities. The individual coffee maker was a bit weird, but served its purpose.

Pool Area: Very nicely landscaped. It reminded me of the pool areas of some very nice Palm Springs hotels. Our pool waitress was also very attentive as well. This is not the case at many of the other hotels on the strip.

Buffet- The buffet was excellent and was priced reasonably. Everything was very fresh. We were especially impressed with the selection (and taste) of the desserts. I really was amazed that there were shrimp available as well. We also had great service by our waiter. It was nice to have someone who was so helpful and always had a smile on his face.

Coffee shop: Good food and service at all hours.

Movie Theater: Very nice and a great addition to your property. We couldn’t gamble all of the time.

Bars: We really liked the bar setup. Nice looking, lots of TV screens, low priced drinks, and friendly bartenders.

Bell Staff: Very eager to help with all of our needs.

Parking: There was lots of covered parking and we never had any problems finding a spot.

Funbook: Coupons are always a good thing. Helped us enjoy our stay even more.
Cons

Bowling: We were really looking forward to bowling this weekend, but it didn’t work out. I lugged my bowling ball up to the bowling alley at 3:15PM Saturday. There was a sign on the desk that open bowling would resume at 3:00PM. We were pleased that we were passed that time. An employee then informed us that we wouldn’t be able to bowl until around 4:00PM. No problem. We went back to our room and came back around 4:15PM. We were then told the “tournament” was running late and that open bowling wouldn’t resume until 5:30PM. We weren’t happy with this, since we were told to come back at that time. Seemed like whoever was running the place had no clue what was going on. By the way, I decided to call the bowling alley at 6:00PM to check on the bowling situation. I was then told it would be 8:00-9:00PM when open play would resume. Our window for bowling had closed. I wish I didn’t bother bringing my bowling gear. In the future it would be nice to have a heads up that a tournament is going on (maybe on their website), so we can anticipate problems with bowling.

Lounge: We decided to check out the lounge for the "dueling pianos" one night. The piano players were great, but the atmosphere was marginal. It is awkward having the lounge so connected with the sports book. It was way too bright. Since the sports book is virtually empty late at night, I would suggest they turn the lights down in that area and maybe put some kind of divider up to separate the area.

Sports Book: The area is very nice with a lot of plasma TVs. However, I would add a couple of more of the large projection screen TVs to the area. The plasmas are a bit too small to really see the action.

Shuttle: Having one bus with a very small seating capacity doesn’t work that well. We got the last two seats for a trip to the strip. Unfortunately, we saw an older couple being waved off by the driver because we were at capacity. They would have to wait about hour for the next shuttle. I would suggest adding more shuttles. I think more people would stay at the South Coast if they knew how easy it was to catch a shuttle to the strip.

Fast Food: It would be nice to have a McDonalds like place where we could pick up a quick bite and bring it up to our room. We noticed a snack bar in the bowling alley, but it seemed out of the way.

Stayed at the South Coast for three nights in late June 2006. All in all the experience was a positive one.

The room was large enough for two people to move around in quite comfortably without getting in each other's way. The beds were very comfortable and the large TV was nice. It was kept very clean and everything was in working order. The bathroom set up was good, with separate sink and toilet/shower areas - so one person could use the shower or toilet while the other could use the sink. I was not very pleased with the shower, though. Weak water pressure with a very dispersed flow, so it made rinsing out your hair thoroughly, and rinsing off your razor while shaving your legs, difficult. Also, the in room hair dryer was crappy. Bring your own. The only real major drawback about the room for us though was the lack of a room safe.

Casino was nice. Very comfortable and easy to navigate. Some casinos are like huge mazes that you get lost in, but it was always easy to find your way around at the South Coast. We did OK on the slots. We didn't win much, but were able to get enough good hits to keep us playing without running through our bankroll in an hour. I would have liked to see a larger selection of slots, though. Drink service was hit and miss. In some areas the waitress came around quite frequently, but in other areas you never saw anyone.

The pool area was very nice. Nicely landscaped and laid out. Only drawback here was that the jacuzzi was broken when we were there. That was disappointing.

We went to the buffet for breakfast only. It was OK. Not stellar, but certainly not terrible.

This hotel is very far away from other areas of Las Vegas. I would recommend renting a car and becoming familiar with the freeway system if you plan to stay here. I would not want to wait around for shuttles and taxis would get very expensive. We had a rental car, so this was not a big issue for us.

Overall, this hotel is a good value and was a very pleasant place to stay.

I knew that the hotel was way south on Las Vegas Blvd when I booked it, so the location did not bother me. If you are planning on staying at this property plan on renting a car if you are flying in to town. If you want to stay closer to the action but don't want to pay strip prices try the Orleans. I really enjoyed the property. I brought a portable DVD player to hook up to the plasma because of an earlier post I read, it worked just fine, just make sure you have a long enough power cord. The room was very nice, the king room comes with a love seat and table like at the Orleans. Bathroom was large, the toilet and shower were in a seperate area from the sink. Bed was very comfortable. Very relaxing. Ate at the Coronado Cafe (Coffee Shop) very quick service and the food was very good. Ate at the Buffet for Steak Night (Monday). Food was better than average, prime rib was a little too well done and dry (no big deal). The hotel also has an 16 screen theater, bowling center, arcade and kids childcare area. There was some kind of kids beauty pageant convention going on, so there were lots of kids and stage moms running around. So I would say the place is kid friendly. I would recommend it if you are looking for value and don't mind being away from action.

My stay at the South Coast was June 18 thru 21. I got a great price on the room along with 1 free night. I had a rental car so the location was fine. Casino and Hotel was new and laid out well. I found the service was excellent from check-in to the guys running the Sportbook. On June 18th I had a very late dinner at Coronado Cafe, the fries were soggy and fried fish was kind of cold. I bought this to their attention and they did not charge me. All other meals at the hotel were great; guess they were really busy on Father's Day. The gambling was fun and I won a little money. The pit boss comped me several times with meals. Drink service was great. Nice pool! I look forward to my next trip (they comped me 2 free nights) so I can try the new spa. Another great Coast property - highly recommended!

Stayed at the South Coast 5/28 and 5/29/06. I was very impressed with the rooms, friendliness of the staff and overall appearance of the casino and hotel. I plan to stay here again my next visit to Las Vegas. The only down side to this hotel is that the location is about 5 miles south of the rest of the strip hotels/casinos. You definitely need a car to stay here. It is now my favorite Las Vegas hotel. We ate in 4 of the restaurants and all were excellent.

We were there this month. To steal the words from my 12 year old autistic daughter, "I love this hotel." Food is good for the money, the machines were tight, but overall very relaxing. I heard that the pool was heated, someone lied. Turn on the heat in the pool, Please. We'll be back very soon. This is our home away from home.

Room was large, but no views at all. Furnishings were not luxurious but a notch up from a Best Western. In-room coffee maker, but no safe. 42" Plasma TV is a nice touch but lacks HD channels, unless you opt to pay $12 for an in-room movie. Wired/Wireless internet is not free, you have to pay $12+ for 24 hour access. Far from the strip, expect a 20-30 commute to the southern strip due to the traffic on 1-lane LV Blvd this far south.

We had a nice sized room with a terrific view of the lights at night, the mountains in the morning. The 42 inch plasma tvs are a plus. The lack of a room safe was a negative. The staff in all areas of this hotel were friendly and helpful. The food was reasonably priced and ranged from very good to adequate, depending on the restaurant, all conveniently located around the gaming floor. There were no "let it ride" tables. There was no shuttle to/from the airport, so figure $25 dollars each way, with tip. Shuttle service to the strip was less frequent than I would have liked, and ended at 12:30 at night, rather early for Vegas. Taxi fare if you missed the last shuttle was, again, $25 with tip. Ventilation is superior in terms of clearing out the smoke, a major advantage from my perspective. This hotel sits in the middle of nowhere. There were a number of accessible $5 dollar tables, which seems to have disappeared from the strip since I visited Vegas last summer. The coctail waitresses are efficient and very pleasing to the eye. Do not expect elegant if you come here, but you can expect to be treated well by a good group of staff.
