My favorite downtown hotel, the El Cortez, was booked solid for the weekend I wanted to stay, and the only rooms available were at the Western Hotel, so I began a search for inexpensive lodgings around Fremont... The DAY'S INN marquee said "rooms available", so I walked closer. A woman was puking off a balcony onto the street below. The corner of 7th and Fremont was surrounded by people who looked like they were in line for a needle exchange program, and this was at 2:00 in the afternoon... LV Metro cops were gathering around the hotel, so I just said forget it. I ended up staying at the Ambassador East Motel a few blocks away, and every time I walked past the DAY'S INN, there were fights among transients, and Metro cops were there again. Enough said about their security. Be Advised!
