I made a reservation for my father and 82-year-old grandmother at Downtowner Budget Apt Motel. The man took my credit card and told me the room number they would be staying in. I told him they would be getting there late and he said it would be ok, just tell them the room number. My father and grandmother got to the hotel in the evening only to find a rude woman who told them their reservation has been given to someone else because they did not check in at 6pm. She basically told them "tough luck", you can't stay here. Since every other motel and hotel they visited was completly booked, they had to sleep in the car. After the little sleep they had, they drove back to San Diego.

I called the motel and spoke to the manager who pretty much told me that it was just an omission. He said that they did not have any reservation policies that stated that the room had to be occupied by 6pm, but that the man who took my reservation probably did not write it down. He did nothing to alleviate my anger. I urge everyone to find a different motel.
